For this episode, we welcome back Kevin Sur (Kānaka Maoli) and Tory J (Quinault), hosts of KEXP's global Indigenous music show. They share the origins of their show name, Sounds of Survivance, and how the notion of survivance relates to the music they play and informs a way of being. They bring a mix of new releases from Indigenous artists pushing the boundaries of sound, from experimental electronic to soul to hardcore, then share a lesser known track from the 70s group that brought the hit “Come and Get Your Love.” Finally, Music Director Chris Sanley shares a propulsive piece of futurist folk celebrating Black and Indigenous solidarity. Songs featured: Ghostkeeper - “Storm Chaser” Ombiigizi - “Connecting” Liv Rion - In My Way Indian Giver - “Purity (feat. “I'm upset with myself because I gave parts of myself with nothing to show for it.” “If only I had…” “But what if I hadn't…?” “Why didn't I just…?” “If only I knew…” “Why didn't I know…?” “I should have realized…” “Our action is based on belief, dependence, sex, ambition, achievement, success. Is there an action so complete it does not leave a single shadow of pain or regret? I want to find out if there is an action which is really whole.” Krishnamuti- Questions: True or False? Regret is the experience of feeling disappointed, embarrassed, ashamed, sad, or remorse over something that happened in the past. True or false the only regret that exist is the regret of making a different choice for oneself? Is the regret of losing another becoming extinct? In a world driven by transactions and superficial interactions, is it necessary for the concept of regret to be elevated to a level that rivals the profound depths of the soul's darkness by a divine intervention? Should you create and save the best activities and subsequent relationship memories for the most suitable person? How to Develop a Healthy Relationship with Regret? True or False? Regrets after a breakup often center around wishing you'd made different choices during your relationship. What does it mean if you regret a relationship? Is it possible to create a healthy relationship with regret? Agree or Disagree? Leaving during a fight, staying too long, or losing your sense of self are common regrets after a breakup. 1. How does the concept of being an "Intimate Indian giver" resonate with your experiences in relationships? 2. What aspects of yourself do you regret giving in your past relationships?

Today, the beautiful resistance of Indigenous music makers carrying powerful messages Digging Roots is Raven Kanatakta and Shoshona Kish. The blues/folk/soul duo just won a JUNO Award for their latest album Zhawenim. Their fourth studio album takes inspiration from skylines and mountain ranges; something the couple call Anishinabek Songlines, an ancient way of creating music. Rising star Aysanabee also got to shine on Canada's JUNO stage this year. The singer/songwriter from Sandy Lake First Nation gave an emotional performance of his song, We Were Here featuring Northern Cree. We catch up with him to find out where his album Watin, about his grandfather, has taken him since its powerful debut. It's rage and recovery with Kristi Lane Sinclair on her new record Super Blood Wolf Moon. The Haida/Cree rocker takes us through her personal journey as a survivor of domestic violence and PTSD. But more than that it is a journey of reclamation, healing and ultimately, the power of women who rise above it all. Zoon, also known as Daniel Monkman, represents young two-spirit identity in their latest record Bekka Ma'iingan, available now. Anishinaabemowin for ‘slow down' and ‘wolf,' Bekka Ma'iingan is both a grieving and a celebration of lost loved ones. From escaping a religious cult, to receiving JUNO nominations Jayli Wolf has seen a lot. Her 2021 debut EP Wild Whisper helped her work through intergenerational trauma and the shame she experienced as a young queer woman. Ultimately, the Anishinaabe woman reclaimed the Indigenous identity she had been displaced from. On her new record, God is an Endless Mirror, set for release this summer, Jayli shares her spiritual awakening. Plus a taste of the latest music from Indian Giver, Wyatt C. Louis, Sebastian Gaskin, and Andrina Turenne

It's an Angela Lansbury memorial and Thanksgiving-adjacent episode as David, Carolyn, and Austin visit the murder capital of the world in Murder, She Wrote season 4, episode 10 "Indian Giver" (don't blame them, they didn't title it)! When a mysterious stranger in stereotypical American Indian garb hurls a spear at the Founder Days celebration and claims to own the town of Cabot Cove, racial invectives are hurled with abandon, leaving it to town busybody and everyone's favorite mystery-writing cool old lady Jessica Fletcher to get to the bottom of things per usual. Lewis Sperry Chafer in his systematic theology tells us that there are three essential factors that relate to the grace of God. Three things about the grace of God that we need to keep in mind. And these are very important. Number one, You cannot gain the grace of God through merit You cannot gain it through merit neither before or after your salvation. See, a lot of people want to do this little trick: We'll put the cross here as the point of salvation, and they'll say, If you want to enter salvation, you have to work. Paul says, "No!" Romans 4:3-4 makes it very clear. We were saved by faith without work. Ephesians 2:8-9 says the same thing. We are saved by grace. You cannot be saved by works (this is just another word for merit.) "Look what I've done." You cannot gain the grace of God by merit. But some come along and say, "Well... "...you don't have to work for your salvation," "...but you better work to keep it." It's the same thing. It's the same thing. If you don't work, you're going to lose it. Then it's not a gift, is it? What is God, an "Indian Giver?" When he said, "He who believes in me shall never perish..." He had the fine print like, you know, used car salesmen have? "Buy this car. It's a great car." "And for one down payment, you can drive it for a year..." "...without making a payment. Unless you happen to breathe, eat..." "...drink, sleep..." (the fine print there.) "...And then we charge you $10,000." Right? Who would turn the Lord Jesus Christ into a used car salesman? So you cannot gain the grace of God by merit. Now get ready, because here's point number two. You cannot lose the grace of God by demerit. The you can't lose it by demerit. Someone came up and said, "But what if we deny Jesus?" Well, we have an example of that, don't we? A guy named Peter. By the way, wasn't he the leader of the Apostles? By the way? Didn't he not only denied the word, he denied Him three times? And by the way, not only did he deny Him three times... he cursed and swore, "I never knew Him!" And when you swore in those days, you didn't say, "Hell, no!" When you swore in those days, you took an oath on the God of heaven. Imagine saying, "I swear by the God of Heaven..." "...that I don't know who He is." That's about as bad as it gets. And when Jesus told him, "You're going to deny Me three times tonight," what was the very next thing He said? "Let not your heart be troubled..." "You believe in God, believe also in Me." And when God gives grace to you, He is not going to give it to you because you are good, and He's not going to take it away from you because you're bad. God loves you with an infinite love. And when you trust in His Son as your Savior, He loves you like He loves His own Son, Jesus Christ. So you cannot gain the grace of God through merit. You cannot lose the grace of God by demerit. And you can only receive the grace of God by faith. What is faith? Because see, now people are trying to redefine faith. Faith is "belief," is it not? "Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. He didn't jump through hoops. He didn't turn cartwheels. He didn't do anything spectacular. God told him something and he said, I believe it. I believe it. How simple is faith? I'll tell you how simple it is, Jesus said. "Except you become as little children," "...you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven." Because I'll tell you something I've learned. I've had five kids and ten grandkids. I never had a one of them when I showed them a picture for the first time of an elephant, and I said, "There is an elephant." They don't look at it and say, "No, that's a giraffe!" They never saw an elephant before in their life, and they can hardly talk. And they go "Melefunt". Yeah, that's an elephant. And you know what? The next day, the next week, I show on the picture and I say, What's that? They say, "melefunt." They believe it. They just believe it, right? Like a little child. That's how we need to become. Faith is so simple.
“It doesn't take a lot of fear to turn a crowd into a mob.” Cabot Cove residents are up in arm when George Longbow arrives, with “proof” that he is the rightful owner of all of Cabot Cove. When a landowner on the verge of finally getting out of debt is found dead with a George's lance, all eyes turn to the stranger among them. Note: this episode deals with DV and racism against Native Americans but we'll get through this one together. https://www.patreon.com/Thefletcherfiles

Her husky voice and powerful characterizations added flair to shows like Suspense, Escape, Johnny Dollar, and Sam Spade. We'll hear her as a murderess trying to stay a step ahead of her conscience in "Beyond Reasonable Doubt" from The Whistler (originally aired on CBS on July 16, 1947). The Adventures of Philip Marlowe was a radio series featuring Raymond Chandler's private eye, Philip Marlowe. Robert C. Reinehr and Jon D. Swartz, in their book, The A to Z of Old Time Radio, noted that the program differed from most others in its genre: "It was a more hard-boiled program than many of the other private detective shows of the time, containing few quips or quaint characters." In 1948, the series moved to CBS, where it was called The Adventure of Philip Marlowe, with Gerald Mohr playing Marlowe. This series also began with an adaptation of "Red Wind", using a script different from the NBC adaptation. By 1949, it had the largest audience in radio. The CBS version ran for 114 episodes. That series ran 26 September 1948 – 29 September 1950.. Save at Ancestry now and discover your roots! Use www.ancestry.com/1001 and support our sponsors! Mental Health Perspectives with Dr. John Huber & Kristin Sunata Walker ‘Seinfeld’ Is The Latest TV Classic To Offend Millennials Over Jokes About ‘Soup Nazi,’ Same-Sex Relationships Critics are slamming the popular sitcom Seinfeld as offensive, calling many of its jokes tone-deaf and distasteful. Some points of controversy include using offensive slurs like Nazi and Indian Giver or racist jokes against people who can’t speak English and poking fun at homosexuals. The controversy follows attacks on other long-running shows like Friends and All In The Family. STORY LINK: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6555895/Seinfeld-latest-TV-classic-offend-millennials-racist-jokes.html What we are experiencing is the raw and unstoppable force of mass communication via social media and the internet. If I watched a rerun of All In The Family with Archie Bunker today, I'd be appalled. But when I watched this show as a child it was considered funny and edgy. What I didn't have at my fingertips was a smartphone. Every generation has an evolution, thankfully, of some kind but none prior to the Millennial generation had a place where their voices could be heard en masse. Is some of what was considered okay on Seinfeld appropriate for today's awareness and culture? Absolutely not. In the past these kinds of discussions would be held in ethics class on popular television shows at a university. It would be studied like history - our past has always been studied. Just as Seinfeld is not appropriate for today's day and age - neither are the old ways of expressing our outrage. Everyone can be heard today that has a smartphone in hand and available internet. This is a whole new era for all of us. Is this wrong? Has the pendulum swung too far? Are we getting too politically correct? Obviously not. The people are speaking. But is a show like Seinfeld currently in production today with new shows? No - it wouldn't be relevant. Should it be available to be watched today on Netflix or anywhere else with content that was a reflection of our evolution at the time it was on the air? Let's ask ourselves if censorship is a good idea for any person or country. It's okay to be offended at what was considered appropriate in the past. This is part of how we learn and grow as human beings. Should we punish the actors, creators, generation that liked Seinfeld and feel it is a beloved part of their experience? I don't think so. Be compassionate about what people of a generation before you had to tolerate because it was culturally appropriate and didn't have the benefit of a platform to complain like social media. And then - create new and positive content that is a reflection of today."
