This episode we revisit an attraction we’ve experienced before that got a bit of a refresh.  We are headed to Disney California Adventure to ride Soarin’ Around the World.  The Guidemap describes Soarin’ Around The World by saying; Soar and swoop over famous landmarks.  Guests must be 40” or taller to experience this attraction and the thrill level describes the ride as being Loud, Dark, Slow and having Small Drops.  FastPasses are available for this attraction. Before we buckle up for take off, here are five fast facts about Soarin’ Around The World. 1. Soarin’ Around The World at Disney California Adventure is an updated version of the classic Soarin’ over California attraction.  A new film was introduced at Disney California Adventure on June 17, 2016. 2.  The updated version of the film matches the films at both Shanghai Disneyland and Epcot at Walt Disney World however each movie has a different finale scene where you soar over the respective parks that the attraction is in.  The Disney California Adventure version features a flyover of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland, while while the Shanghai version features a flyover Shanghai and the EPCOT version features a pass by Spaceship Earth. 3.  The new film features a brand new score by Emmy winner Bruce Broughton, but it has elements of the original attraction’s score that had music by Jerry Goldsmith.  The score was recorded by the London Studio Orchestra at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. 4. Locations visited on the update attraction now feature landmarks such as the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower and The Great Pyramids in Egypt. 5.  The smells on the attraction have been updated as well.  Now the smells of grass in Africa, the ocean of the South Pacific and roses of the Taj Mahal fill your nose as you soar above the various landmarks. Along for the ride today is my friend John B. deHaas and you will hear our review of the updated attraction moments after we stepped off of it for the first time.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience Disney California Adventure’s Soarin’ Around The World. Before we experience this nighttime classic, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant. 1. The 15 Minute Long Electrical Water Pageant debuted on Monday, October 25, 1971 making it one of the few original opening year shows that is still running at Walt Disney World. 2. The Electrical Water Pageant consists of 14 floats which contain over 50,000 light bulbs to light up the parade’s turtles, whales, octopus and sea serpent!  It is said that crews replace anywhere from 100 to 1500 bulbs a week to keep the floats in tip top shape. 3. Guests today can see the same floats in the same order dating back to 1977 4. The Electrical Water Pageant runs up to six times a night at various locations on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake.  Guests can watch from locations including the Polyneasian resort, Fort Wilderness Campground and Disney’s contemporary hotel. 5. The electrical Water Pageant was the inspiration behind the Main Street Electrical Parade!  The music piece Baroque Hoedown which is commonly associated with the Main Street Electrical Parade was originally featured in the Electrical Water Pageant! Now it’s time to light up the night with the the Electrical Water Pageant.  If you have headphones, put them on now as this is a binaural recording.  And stay tuned after the audio to hear my thoughts on this attraction as you’ll be hearing my first time experiencing Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant. Before we search for the Shaman of Songs, here are five fast facts about the Na’vi River Journey. 1. The Na’vi Rivier Journey, based on James Cameron’s movie Avatar, had several soft opening previews, but officially opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 27, 2017. 2. The winding queue area features textiles created by the Na’vi as well as totems to the Shaman of Songs. 3. The ceiling of the main queue area features a woven map of the Kaspavan river and at night, this map lights up and shows ‘real time’ representations of the various life forms moving along the river. 4.  The 4 and a half minute long river journey features layered projections of various Pandora natives and wildlife coupled with actual sets and video projection mapping technology to make creatures seem three dimensional. 5.  The finale of the attraction features a float past the Shaman of Songs.  There is not much information available about the building of the Shaman of songs animatronic other than it is the most complex animatronic Walt Disney Imagineering has ever created.  Walt Disney Imagineering Executive producer Lisa Girolami says of the animatronic, “…the key is we don't stop until that technology can't be seen. It should be invisible, so when you see the Shaman she does look lifelike.” And now that we know a little more about the Na’vi River Journey, let’s hop aboard our boat and experience the attraction for ourselves.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now and stay tuned after the ride to hear my initial impressions of the Na’Vi River Journey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Before we embark on our journey around Tomorrowland, here are five fast facts about the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover: 1. Before we get an education in American History from Sam The Eagle, here are five fast facts about The Muppets Presents…Great Moments in American History. 1.  The show debuted at the Magic Kingdom on October 2, 2016.  Great Moments in History features two alternating famous historical retellings.  The retelling of the Declaration of independence features the human character of Liberty Square’s Town Crier, James Jefferson or JJ for short, who solicits interactions from the crowd gathered to watch the show.  The other show centers around the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and stars the Muppets on their own. 2.   The show began development in 2014 after the release of Muppets Most Wanted.  Originally the show was just going to feature Sam The Eagle on his own but it was decided that the show would be more fun if the other Muppet characters were added in. 3. Because the bulk of Muppets’ performance takes place in the second story windows of Liberty Square’s Heritage House, the Muppets puppets are built 5% bigger than they normally would be for film and television in order to be properly seen by audiences watching from below. 4.  Longtime Muppet script writer, Jim Lewis, was brought in to polish the scripts for the show to make sure they fit with the classic Muppet sensibility. 5. Though they are not doing the puppeteering themselves, the voices of the Muppets are provided by longtime Muppet performers Steve Whitmire as Kermit, Eric Jacobson as Sam The Eagle, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear and Dave Goelz as Gonzo. Now let’s head to Liberty Square to hear The Muppets retelling of two great moment of american history, the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and The Signing of the Declaration of independence.  And be sure to Stay tuned afterwards  to hear my thoughts on these shows.  As always, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we head to the Magic Kingdom for The Muppets Present…Great Moments in American History. Before we go out and search for Donald Duck with Jose and Panchito, here are five fast facts about this attraction! 1.  The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros opened on April 6, 2007, replacing the Mexico Pavilion’s original attraction El Rio del Tiempo.  The Gran Fiesta Tour keeps the same layout as the original ride but adds animated film sequences starring The Three Caballeros. 2.   The addition of The Three Caballeros to the ride marked the first time that Disney made the, somewhat controversial decision, to add pre-existing characters into attractions in the World Showcase at EPCOT.  A decision that has continued with Frozen Ever After in the Norway pavilion. 3. The voices of the Three Caballeros are performed by Tony Anselmo as Donald, Rob Paulson as José and Carlos Alazraqui as Panchito. 4.  The center section of the attraction, known as the Festival of Children, features animatronics of singing and dancing children very reminiscent of It’s A Small World.  This portion of the Gran Fiesta Tour is pretty much the same as it was back when the ride was known as El Rio del Tiempo. 5. On December 15, 2015, animatronics of the Three Caballeros were installed in the show’s finale.  The animatronics were reused from the Magic Kingdom attraction the Mickey Mouse Revue which was closed to make way for Mickey’s PhilharMagic in Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland. Before films starts rolling, here are five fast facts about The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. 1.  The 22 minute long Great Movie Ride is an opening day attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and officially began operation on May 1, 1989. 2.   The Great Movie Ride is unique in that, on busy days, guests will experience one of two ‘takeovers’ of their ride vehicle.  If the ride vehicle is stopped in the western section off the attraction, the vehicle will be taken over by an outlaw named Kate Durango or Kid Carson.  If the ride vehicle is stopped in the gangster section of the ride, it will be commandeered by a gangster named mugsy.  Both the Outlaws or the gangster will force the regular tour operator out of the vehicle and continue on as the vehicle’s operator until the surprise return of the car’s starting operator. 3. As the ride vehicle enters the Raiders of the Lost Ark segment of the attraction, keep as sharp eye on hyrogliphics on the walls of the room.  One panel has hyrogliphic figures of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and another features star wars characters R2D2 and C3PO 4.  n the Casablanca scene, the front half of a real Lockheed Model 12 Electra Junior plane can be seen.  Imagineers didn’t just throw away the back half of the plane because it wasn’t needed.  You can see the back half of the plane if you head over to the Magic Kingdom where it can be spotted in the jungle of the Jungle Cruise Attraction.  5.  In 2014, Turner Classic Movies became the sponsor of the Great Movie Ride and on May 29, 2015, the ride reopened with new on ride narration by TCM host Robert Osborne.  Rober Osborne passed away in 2017, but the attraction with his narration is what we will be listening to today. This episode we are heading to Disney California Adventure for our first ever attraction double header as we ride two attractions in one episode!  First we’ll attend a wild band concert on the Silly Symphony Swings.  Located in the Paradise Pier section of the park, the Silly Symphony Swings are described in the guide in the following manner:  Enjoy boardwalk fun at its swinging best.  The Thrill level describes the attraction accurately as a spinning ride and it does have a height requirement in that guests need to be 40” or taller to ride. After the Silly Symphony Swings, we’re going to head over to the Jumping’ Jellyfish attraction.  Also located in Paradise Pier, this ride is described in the guide map in this way:  Drop down through a colorful forest of kelp.  The thrill level warns that this attraction features Small Drops and it also has the 40” or taller height requirement on it. Before our feet leave the ground for these two attractions, here are five fast facts about the Silly Symphony Swings and Jumping Jellyfish. 1.  Jumping’ Jellyfish is a California Adventure opening day attraction, beginning operation on February 8, 2001.  Silly Symphony Swings officially opened on June 11, 2010, but it replaced a similar attraction called the Orange Stinger which was basically the same ride but enclosed in a giant orange. 2.   Silly Symphony Sings is themes to the 1935 cartoon, The Band Concert where Mickey conducts an orchestra during the middle of tornado.  When the ride opened in 2010, it coincided with the 75th anniversary of the cartoon! 3.  The mild Jumping’ Jellyfish attraction at California Adventure has a sister attraction, also named Jumping’ Jellyfish, at Tokyo DisneySea in Japan.  The version at Tokyo DisneySea opened a few month after it’s California counterpart on September 4, 2001. 4.  The two music pieces heard during your ride on Silly Symphony Swings are both by William Tell.  The soundtrack includes his famous Overture and his classic piece entitled The Storm 5. Though they do so in much different ways, both attractions lift riders 40 feet off the ground and both have a ride time of generally about a minute and thirty seconds. With me today for this special double header is my friend John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on this classic Disneyland attraction.  If you have headphones, put them on now as this trip is a binaural recording.  And now let’s ride Silly Symphony Swings and Jumping’ Jellyfish at Disney California adventure. This episode we are taking a ride on Snow White’s Scary Adventures at Disneyland.  This dark ride is described in the guide map as follows:  Hop inside a mine cart and follow the path of Snow White as she flees into the dark forest to avoid the wrath of the evil Queen. There is no height requirement for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being Loud, Dark, Scary and a slow ride. Before we head into the forest to find snow white, here are five fast facts about Snow White’s Scary Adventures 1.  Snow White’s Scary adventures is an opening day attraction that began operation on July 17, 1955.  Back then though, the ride was called Snow White’s Adventures.  The ride got its new name in 1983. 2.  Snow white didn’t actually appear in the ride until 1983 as well!  When the ride opened in 1995, the imagineers had designed the ride to make it feel as if the guests themselves were Snow White going through the forest and avoiding the evil queen.  Many guests questioned where Snow White was, so in 1983, the ride was changed to include snow white, though she only appears in the attraction once. 3.  One of the signature effects of the attraction is the transformation of the evil queen into the old hag.  This effect is achieved by haven two figures separated by a sheet of glass that is standing in for an actual mirror. 4.  The ride vehicles for the attraction are each randomly named after one of the seven dwarves. 5.  For years after the ride opened, guests were swiping one of the apples that the witch would hold out as they passed by.  When the ride was revamped in 1983, an effect was created to make it seem as if the apple was there but if guests reach out for it, their hands go right through! Now, let’s visit Snow White and the Seven Dwarves on Snow White’s Scary Adventures.  On the ride with me today is John B. deHaas and after we ride we’ll discuss our thoughts on this classic Disneyland attraction.  If you have headphones, put them on now as we experience this binaural ride through of Snow White’s Scary Adventures. This episode we head to Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World and ride one of the park’s iconic attractions, The Haunted Mansion. Located in Liberty Square, The Haunted Mansion is described in the guide map in the following manner: Take a spine tingling tour of this dark, haunted estate.  There are no height or age requirements for this attraction and FastPass+ is available.  The thrill level is describes The Haunted Mansion as being a Dark Ride and Slow Ride. Before we hitch hike a doom buggy to the spirit world, here are five fast facts about The Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World. 1.  The Haunted Mansion is an opening day attraction at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World and marks it’s 45th year of operation in 2016. 2.  While sharing very similar scenes to it’s California counterpart, the Haunted Mansion in Florida has a few extra scenes that required extra narration by the Ghost Host, voiced by the legendary Paul Frees. 3.  In 2007, the attraction received a major refurbishment which added several new elements including the ‘M.C. Esher-esqu’ staircase room, a floating cruystal ball for Madame Leota, and the addition of Constanse Hathaway, the Black Widow Bride in the attic scene. 4.  In 2011, the ride received a new queue area where guests can interact with various tombstones and even talk back to the spirits.  That same year, the ride received a major upgrade in the Hitchhiking Ghosts sequence where the three ghosts now appear to physically interact with guests as they near the end of the attraction. 5.  One of the iconic scenes of the Haunted Mansion is the stretching room sequence.  At Disneyland in California, the floor of the Stretching Room lowers, serving as an elevator to bring guests underground to board the attraction.  At Walt Disney World, where they had more space to build the attraction, an elevator was not needed, so the ceiling rises to create the illusion of the room stretching. Now, let’s bravely head to the Magic Kingdom’s to meet the 999 ghostly occupants of the Haunted Mansion.  After the ride audio, I’ii share my thoughts on the attraction and I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts on it as well over at the  Attraction Checklist Facebook page at facebook.com/attractionchecklist..  This is a binaural recording, so if you have headphones put them on now because we are about to experience, the Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion. This time we’ve got something every special for you, the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade to Disneyland park!  This audio was recorded on January 19, 2017 as the parade made it’s return to it’s birthplace at a special premiere event.  The parade is currently describe in the guide by saying Catch this classic nighttime parade filled with fanciful floats and toe-tappin’ tunes for a limited time―it fades away June 18, 2017!  As this is a parade, it is open to all ages and there is no height requirement, though if you want to see the parade up front you’ll want to snag a viewing spot along the parade route early. Before we experience this spectacular festival pagent of nighttime magic and imagination. 1. The Main Street Electrical Parade debuted at Disneyland on June 17, 1972 and it ran at the park until November 25, 1996. 2.  The parade was created to be a West Coast version of the Electrical Water Pageant that has run at Walt Disney World in Florida since October 26, 1971.  The Water Pagent features barges with light up screens depicting a sea serpent, jumping dolphins, a turtle and more.  Instead of traveling down Main Street, these floats travel on barges on the Seven Seas Lagoon. 3.  According to then director of show development  Ronald Miziker, all 500,000 light bulbs in the original parade needed to be hand-tinted which required dipping each on in the appropriate colored paint. 4. The Main Street Electrical parade is known for its iconic music.  The underlying theme is called Baroque Hoedown and was originally created by early synthesizer pioneers Jean-Jaques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley. 5.  The Main Street Electrical parade was the firs tin Disney Park history to use an automated parade show control program that allowed the parade route to have different radio activated zones that allowed for float specific music and sound to be triggered as the floats passed by.  This si a technique still used in Disney parks today. Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy the return of the Main Street Electrical parade as it returns to Disneyland for the first time in over 20 years.  Watching the parade with me is the man who inspired this very podcast you’re listening to, Window To the Magic’s Paul Barrie and after the parade we will discuss out thoughts on this returning attraction.  Once again, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them in as we enjoy the Main Street Electrical Parade!
