Ever feel like every conversation with a certain someone turns into a debate? Or wonder how to navigate the tricky shift from parenting young kids to respecting your adult child's independence? Kate Mason dives into two major family dynamics: the clash between thinkers and feelers in communication and the importance of setting boundaries when kids grow up and move out. She explores why thinkers crave logic and facts while feelers prioritize emotional connection—and how these differences can make conversations feel frustrating or dismissive. She tackles the dos and don'ts of parental boundaries, sharing hilarious and eye-opening stories about unannounced visits, spare keys, and the surprising reactions of her own adult children.Listen For:3:58 – Feelers vs. Thinkers: Why Does Everything Have to Be a Debate?12:57 – The Big Move: When Your Kids Finally Leave the Nest17:44 – Adult Kids Set Boundaries… And Get a Reality Check20:22 – House Keys, Privacy, and When to Step Back as a ParentLeave a rating/review for this podcast with one clickContact Kate:Email | Website | Kate's Book on Amazon | LinkedIn | Facebook | X
Episode 190- What Are You Avoiding? Are you someone who tends to live in your head, always overthinking and analyzing? Or do you find yourself constantly swept up in your emotions, unable to see the bigger picture? Maybe you're the type who just stays busy, using action to avoid both thinking and feeling. In this episode, we're exploring the idea that sometimes we can become "addicted" to one of these ways of being - thinking, feeling, or doing - as a way to avoid the others. I share insights from my coaching work, where I've noticed clients often fall into one of these camps. We discuss how this can happen as a protective mechanism, and why it's important to strive for more balance and integration of all aspects of our humanity. The key is finding moderation - not perfection, but a "smoothie" of thoughts, feelings, and actions. I encourage you to reflect on what you might be avoiding, and experiment with adding more of the neglected element to your life. When we're willing to engage our minds, hearts, and bodies, we open ourselves up to a richer, more meaningful existence. Let's dive in! As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends. Would like to speedread your dates and quickly determine if they're the one? Now, there is a way to do that by utilizing Dr. Avila's classic LoveTypes system (lovetype.com). Based on the theory behind the Myers-Briggs®—the most popular personality test in the world, Dr. Avila's approach to love finding has been proven with over 40 million internet users. On our Love University podcast, Dr. Avila explained two of the most important LoveType personality dimensions: Deciding and Organizing, as follows: Deciding Dimension: Thinker of Feeler? Thinkers make decisions primarily with their logic, while Feelers decide mainly with their emotions. Thinkers and Feelers often get together in relationships, but need to understand and respect each other's style. If they don't, Thinkers may accuse Feelers of taking things too personally, while Feelers tell Thinkers they are too cold and critical. A better approach is to value each other's strengths. The Thinker recognizes that their Feeler provides warmth and emotional support, while the Feeler appreciates the way the Thinker can calm conflicts and provide logical solutions. To determine whether your date or romantic partner is a Thinker or a Feeler, ask them this question: “What's your favorite movie and why?” If they choose a movie because of the way it made them feel, they're likely a Feeler. If they choose a movie because of the way it made them think, they're probably a Thinker. Organizing Dimension: Structured or Spontaneous? Structured people value schedules, organization, and being on time. Spontaneous people (known as “P's” or “Perceivers” on the Myers-Briggs test) like to be more flowing, easy-going, and less attuned to schedules and too much organization. In relationships, when Structured people get together with Spontaneous people, they may have problems in a lot of areas, including time, schedules, children, sex, commitment, and money. Again, the key to a harmonious relationship is to respect and appreciate each other's style. Structured people can value the Spontaneous person's ability to get them to have fun and be more relaxed. Spontaneous people can be grateful when their Structured partner helps them get organized and makes sure they get to places on time. To determine your romantic partner's style in this dimension, ask them, “If you were invited to Vegas (or a nice resort) tomorrow, a work day, would you go?” A spontaneous person would say, “My bags are packed,” while a Structured person would say, “I can't,” or “I have to plan it out.” It is said that differences make the world go round. Yet, certain differences in core values and preferences can make a relationship more conflictual and difficult. Therefore, it's important to recognize and understand your love partner's differences, especially in the initial dating stages before you fall in love and commit (possibly to the wrong person). By applying the LoveTypes system, and screening out candidates who are not compatible, you have a better chance of discovering your ideal soul mate and creating a love that lasts a lifetime.

The "feeler anointing" is a rare gift from the Lord but can be used for Satan's kingdom. Yes, if you're a feeler, you're going to get labeled as a hypochondriac, overly emotional, oversensitive, crazy, and too sensitive! So, embrace it and know who you are in Christ. Many struggle with this highly sensitive gift and feel extremely overwhelmed. Feelers often feel drained by intense emotions and high sensory input; more than the average Joe. Therefore, their time and energy are best spent alone for a time to recharge. Feelers require authentic relationships because they love deeply and more intensely. Understand this God given gift further with Christian Counselor, Author, and Prophetic Mentor, Melia, as she navigates the path of the feeler anointing! Our parents are truly our first teachers. From the moment we're born, we instinctively believe that our parents know what's good and what's bad. We look up to them, put them in pedestals and follow their guidance because we've been taught that their word is law. Whether their lessons are intentional or accidental, they always leave a lasting impression on our lives. So, Feelers, in this episode, we dive into the lessons our parents may have taught us, as well as those we wish they had. Be FEATURED in 'Dear, Feelings, Explained'! In this episode of Not So Normal Parenting, we delve into the fascinating realm of Thinkers and Feelers, exploring how these cognitive preferences shape not only decision-making but also parenting dynamics. Host [Host's Name] unpacks the essence of Thinking (T) and Feeling (F) in the context of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, shedding light on how individuals lean towards logic-driven judgments or decisions infused with empathy and consideration of emotions. Drawing from personal experiences and observations, [Host's Name] shares anecdotes about her own children, Nathan and Jordan, whose contrasting temperaments challenge societal norms. Nathan, a gentle soul with a penchant for empathy, defies the stereotype of competitive masculinity often associated with boys, while Jordan's determined and independent nature bucks the trend of nurturing femininity. Listeners are taken on a journey through the nuances of parenting Thinkers and Feelers, from early childhood indicators to navigating societal expectations. [Host's Name] emphasizes the importance of understanding and supporting children based on their unique temperaments rather than conforming to traditional gender roles. Through insightful anecdotes, [Host's Name] highlights the significance of parental adaptation, whether it's encouraging individual sports for a sensitive Feeler like Nathan or embracing a Thinker's unconventional choices, such as Jordan's foray into pole-vaulting. As the episode unfolds, listeners gain a deeper appreciation for the diverse ways in which children process information and make decisions, transcending gender stereotypes and societal pressures. Whether your child is a Thinker or a Feeler, this episode offers valuable insights and practical tips for navigating the intricate landscape of parenting. God has created each one of us as unique persons with our own ways of doing and thinking and being but sometimes, those differences, however attractive initially, can become incredibly annoying over time. In this episode, you'll learn about how to see both yourself and others in a new light, hopefully leading to better communication, compassion, understanding, and healthier community as we learn how to "love one another" in the ways we each receive and give it best. This podcast is a recording from an online Book Launch of Maria Mason's latest book. In this podcast, Phil interviews her about this publication. Here is the back cover of her book: God is looking for prophets to unveil His heart of love! When nations need healing, God raises up sons and daughters who carry His heart. Many believe that prophets have one primary assignment: to guide the church toward revival, but God also wants to bring profound transformation to nations, starting in people's hearts. Enter, the heart prophet! Heart prophets are feelers, seers and restorers of hearts. They engage with the Spirit via their senses and can uniquely minister His heart of restoration through the five-fold ministry. They carry the message of repentance, restoration, and revival. Heart Prophets receive heaven's divine intel to communicate God's feelings and heart. They are wired to feel and release the Father's love to heal and restore. This book is a unique manual for an emerging generation of prophets, and it will powerfully equip you to embrace the fullness of your prophetic assignment. Get ready for greater sensitivity to the Spirit of God!
In the intro episode I quoted Oprah's phrase, "Life is a classroom." In this episode we take out the canvas and paint an analogy likening our life classrooms to sitting in traffic. Our lives and experiences could be just as layered, dynamic, and varied as this. But the deeper question is, what has it taught you so far? If you are ready to get in the driver's seat of your life and/or ready to change direction and would benefit from assistance that Malika could offer. And today we are going to admire the incredible feats that we - OURSELVES - accomplish. Getting the seemingly impossible done. And the inspiration for today's mindful moment is another poem. This poem - which I have read a bunch of times - is a succinct and precise and warm description of so many of the days that we live - so many of the days we see others are entrenched in…The poem is from the book: Self Love Poetry for Thinkers and Feelers, by Melody Godfred The Self Love Philosopher. We venture into the things we do and how we get it all done and why, perhaps, we often make it look easy! Our mindful approach to all that we do will allow us to persist and be disciplined to get it all done. Be mindful of the work and tasks that you are doing - be present in each moment you have fulfilled what needs to be completed. Right Here! Right Now!

The Black Mind Garden: ReMap Your Mind! Create a Life You Design
SHOW NOTES: In This week's Mind ReMapping Moment, we talk about Understanding Our Children's Personalities; The Thinker & The Feeler - the thinker-feeler polarity within the Myers-Briggs framework. Thinkers are known for their logical, analytical minds and a preference for making decisions based on rationality and objective criteria. Feelers, on the other hand, prioritize emotional considerations and seek harmony and empathy in their interactions. Understanding these fundamental differences is crucial in nurturing and supporting our children. We should understand the importance of recognizing and honoring our children's thinker-feeler tendencies. By doing so, we can create an environment that nurtures their strengths and supports their growth. It's essential to provide thinkers with intellectual stimulation and opportunities for critical thinking, while also fostering their emotional intelligence. For feelers, we need to cultivate an atmosphere that values emotional expression and teaches them how to identify and manage their feelings effectively. We should never confine our children to rigid categories or stereotypes solely based on their thinker-feeler tendencies. Each child is a unique individual, and it's vital to celebrate and embrace their individuality. As parents, our role is to create a nurturing space that respects and appreciates their diverse blend of traits. Engage in activities that stimulate both the intellectual and emotional aspects of your child's personality. Discuss books or movies that explore complex themes while also delving into the characters' emotions and motivations. By integrating these experiences, we can support the holistic development of our children. We need to reflect on your own thinker-feeler tendencies and how they impact your parenting style. Understanding your own strengths and weaknesses in this regard allows you to approach interactions with your child in a more balanced and empathetic manner. We've been doing a series on Personality & Relationships. We are taking you through the different preferences of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, what each mean & how they can affect your relationship. In today's podcast we continue in part 2 of THINKING vs FEELING "Thinkers" usually tell the truth, even if it's not very nice. They like to question what other people say and use logic to make decisions. They're good at organizing information and getting to the point quickly. They don't like to talk about their feelings too much and might ignore them if they don't make sense with what they're thinking. Thinkers want to help society by criticizing bad things and finding solutions to problems. The other type is called a "Feeler." These people are more likely to be nice than truthful. They don't like to argue or disagree with other people. They're friendly and may talk a lot without being very organized. They care a lot about their feelings and other people's feelings, too. They don't like to think about things that might hurt someone's feelings. Feelers want to help society by doing good things that everyone agrees on and that make people happy. We've been doing a series on Personality & Relationships. We are taking you through the different preferences, what each mean & how they can affect your relationship. In today's podcast we tackle THINKING vs FEELING 1. Decision-making: Thinkers tend to make decisions based on logic and objective analysis, whereas Feelers tend to make decisions based on personal values and subjective considerations. Thinkers are more likely to prioritize facts and data, while Feelers are more likely to consider how their decisions will impact others and their emotions. 2. Communication style: Thinkers tend to communicate in a direct and analytical manner, focusing on the facts and details of a situation. Feelers, on the other hand, tend to communicate in a more personal and empathetic way, focusing on emotions and relationships. 3. Problem-solving: Thinkers approach problem-solving with a logical and systematic approach, breaking down complex issues into smaller, more manageable parts. Feelers tend to approach problem-solving in a more holistic and intuitive way, relying on their personal values and empathy to guide their decisions. 4. Criticism: Thinkers tend to be more objective and detached when receiving criticism, focusing on the logic and merit of the critique. Feelers may take criticism more personally and be more concerned with maintaining positive relationships. 5. Decision-making under pressure: Thinkers tend to remain calm and rational under pressure, relying on their analytical skills to make quick decisions. Feelers may struggle with decision-making under pressure, as they may become overwhelmed by their emotions and the impact their decisions will have on others. **Take the inventory linked below, then screenshot your results & post them over in the designated post in our Facebook Community** http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp Listen to Related Episodes: Ep 53 - Sensing vs Intuition Ep 52 - Introversion vs Extroversion (Part 2) Ep 51 - Introversion vs Extroversion (Part 1) Ep. 50 - Myers Briggs Type Indicator, MBTI - Personality and Relationships **We'd love for you to join us over at our Facebook Community! This week's Misfit Entrepreneur is Sharon Grossman. Sharon Grossman is a psychologist, success coach, and keynote speaker who's an expert in Emotional Intelligence. She's also the author of the best-selling book, the 7E Solution to Burnout and hosts the podcast, Decode Your Burnout. She's helped hundreds of high performing entrepreneurs learn to be more product and avoid or even recover from burnout. Through her simple and effective methodology she teaches how to have a competitive advantage that wins in business, minimizes stress, and helps you experience life on your terms because winning is non-negotiable. Burnout and taking on too much affects most entrepreneurs at some point in their journey and I've been looking for an expert to come on and help us in learning to recognize it, better manage it, and if possible avoid while still making it happen for our businesses – so I was excited to get Sharon on. www.DrSharonGrossman.com Sharon is a clinically trained psychologist who practiced therapy for 20 years. She noticed a common theme with clients being highly stressed and started to do more research on burnout which is chronic stress. She listened to her clients with a different ear recognizing burnout. And in sharing this with them, it would create “aha moments” helping them to understand their challenges. When we understand what we are experienced in life, it helps to diagnose it to help us solve challenges in front of us. At the 6 min mark, Sharon tells a story about when she was grad student and hearing a speaker talking about solo practitioners burning out in the field. When she go into her own business, she remembered the talk and vowed not to be a statistic, so she set up her business around the life she wanted to have. “You have to think about what you need in order to sustain yourself.” It is about mindset and believing it is important enough to make it happen when it comes to stopping burnout. How does someone psychologically break out of their bad habits and “comfort” with the state of burnout that they live in? James Clear said, “We build habits to solve the repeated problems we have in life. And what do you think the odds are that the solutions we come up with are the optimal ones?” It's unlikely. We get into patterns and so much of what we do in the world is on auto-pilot from our subconscious, but it comes back to our fundamental believes. These believes are shaped by our early life experiences and influences. If you find yourself in a loop or stuck, you really have to get under the hod, understanding what you believe and making meaningful changes to it to help yourself. You then have to start showing up and aligning with the identity you want to have. Even if it is just a little bit a day. You must state who you are. If you want to exercise more – you need to state that “I am a person who exercises for 30 mins daily.” And let's say you have a day where you don't want to do or you don't have 30 mins – you still do 10 mins if that is all you have because “you are someone who exercises daily.” When you keep showing up day after day, you are reinforcing the identity. At the 15 min market, Sharon and I have a discussion on our conditioning and subconscious. A lot of people like clarity and don't know what they want. Many don't know who they are. It starts with defining who you want to be and building the identity and habits that support that. What should we know about burnout? What are the signs? Burnout is chronic stress. The main thing is mental and emotional exhaustion. It is distinct from depression. When you are burned out, if you take time away from the source burning you out – you won't be exhausted anymore. This versus being depressed is that when depressed, the change doesn't make the difference. People who experience burnout not only feel it at work, but at home. It can compound between running a business, family, household, etc. Initially, you will notice exhaustion and less motivation. Productivity can then go down and then this can affect your confidence. It can be a snowball effect. If it goes on long enough, the body can start to break down as well. You must listen to the signs when your body is talking to you. 3 Different Burnout Profiles. What are they? (Sharon give great detail, so it is good to listen) Burnout shows up for different reasons. The first type is the thinker. These are people who are very much in their heads and tend to overthink things. Their brain tends to worry. The second type are the feelers. These are people that tend to be people pleasers, have a hard time setting boundaries and even experience guilt because their underlying belief is that they need to serve other people and it is selfish to focus on themselves. They give away too much and then become resentful that they aren't getting enough back in return. The third type are the do'ers. The type A, workaholic, super over-achievers. They don't have much time for themselves and are very driven with a strong work ethic. They overload themselves both at work and at home. People can be more than one of these, or even all 3 in some instances. Once we realize which of the types we are, what do we do about it? Once you understand your type, create customized solutions to help you. As an example, Thinkers might need to focus on letting go of the need to control and the fear of failure. They also need to increase their self-compassion and trust their instincts to make decisions. Self-compassion is where we are kind to ourselves instead of beating ourselves up. It is treating ourselves better…like we treat others. For all types, it is good to level set and ground themselves. Feelers have to be careful to create more boundaries and learn to shift their believe about their own importance. Additionally, learning to managing their emotions Do'ers equate their value with their productivity. They will work until they physically can't because of burnout. They need to slow down, take time off, and tuning into themselves to understand when they are going too far. In the end, you must change what you believe to truly make meaningful changes to help yourself. You wrote the 7-E Solution to Burnout. What are the 7 E's? Emotional Intelligence. This is the most important one. You must take one step back and learn to manage your mind. There is a link between your thoughts and emotions. Empowerment. This is about your personal power and controlling your energy drains. It is becoming aware on what you need to empower yourself. Engagement. Engagement goes down when we are burned out. This can also create brain fog and less productivity. You get dis-engaged. People can also be burned out due to boredom and not being challenged. Self-Efficacy. Your belief in your ability to do your work. It's how you respond the results you get. When you get results you want, it boosts self-efficacy, but if we get over-confident or don't get the results we want or expect, it can build up and cause issue. Energy. Learning to recharge and removing the stress. Getting the mental obstacles to self-care out of the way. We know what to do and need to action doing it. Effort. This is about working smarter not harder and making the most of your efforts. Enlightenment. Lightening your load by looking at your mindset, getting our of your own way, and using practices to help you center your mind to be your best. Best Quote: You must change what you believe to truly make meaningful changes to help yourself. Misfit 3: For thinkers. Trust yourself. Our minds can derail us. For feelers. Self-care is not selfish. You must take care of yourself to be your best for those you want to serve. Emotional intelligence is the #1 skill people must focus if they have negativity in their mind, stress, and burnout. Dr. Sharon Grossman is a clinical psychologist turned burnout coach, an author, a speaker, and host of the Decode Your Burnout podcast. When she was a psychology student, she attended a workshop about what it is like to work in private practice. The speaker talked a lot about how prevalent burnout is in the private practice world and this actually caused Dr. Sharon to shy away from going in that direction for many years. Eventually there was nowhere left to go but management, which is not something she was interested in pursuing, and Dr. Sharon had to consider opening up her own practice. She decided to build in ways to protect against burnout right from the start such as choosing an office location within walking distance of her gym. She moved from therapy to burnout coaching and prefers it as in her experience her coaching clients are more dedicated to doing the work required to really improve. In Dr. Sharon's research, she discovered that there are three main contributing factors to burnout- programming or early childhood experiences, environmental stressors, and burnout personality or profile. She helps people determine their burnout style in order to better understand what changes they need to make in order to heal from and prevent additional burnout. The three burnout personality types are thinker, feeler, and doer. Thinkers are people who are constantly overthinking everything. They tend to be perfectionists and struggle with imposter syndrome. Feelers are the people pleasers who tend to end up resentful when people inevitably don't give back as much as they receive. The doers are the people who constantly overfill their plate and who feel a deep need to be more accomplished than anyone and to continually prove themselves. By determining which one you are, you can better understand what caused your burnout and how to prevent it in the future. There are many factors that contribute to burnout and not everyone burns out from the same circumstances. Tune into today's episode of FRIED. The Burnout Podcast for a conversation with Dr. Sharon Grossman about decoding your burnout. Learn which burnout profile applies to you so that you can have a better understanding of the lifestyle changes you need to make to heal from and prevent burnout. Quotes • “The important thing is to really focus on what your needs are, and how do you get those needs met.” (12:03-12:08 | Dr. Sharon) • “How is it that we're burning out, and we don't even have the words to describe it? We don't even have the right diagnosis, if you will. Which is important, because then you don't have the right treatment for the problem. So I kind of made it my mission to go out there and to educate the public about what burnout is and what to look out for so that people can identify it in themselves, so that they can get the appropriate kind of help or use the right kind of strategies and tools to get back to themselves.” (14:01-14:29 | Dr. Sharon) • “I remember as a therapist even just thinking my job is not to babysit people. I need to get them up and running so that they have social support, that they're out there doing what they need to do to take care of themselves, that they're not just showing up here for the next 12 years.” (23:23-23:39 | Dr. Sharon) • “Thinkers are focused on quality, because they're perfectionists. The doers are focused on quantities, like how much can I do, and it just never feels like it's enough. And so you're taking on another thing and another thing, and then eventually, you take on like the smallest little thing, and you break, because you just can't take anymore.” (30:57-31:21 | Dr. Sharon) Links https://cuely.ai/FRIED https://bearaby.com Connect with Dr. Sharon Grossman: https://drsharongrossman.com/ https://www.instagram.com/theburnoutdoc/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/sharongrossman/ http://drsharongrossman.com/burnoutchecklist https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/decode-your-burnout-formerly-optimize-your-life/id1548603864 XOXO, C If you know that it's time to actually DO something about the burnout cycle you've been in for too long - book your free consult today: bit.ly/callcait https://friedtheburnoutpodcast.com/quiz Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
