Happy New Year 2023 from The Knackered Golfist. I am sorry but I am not really feeling like the golf bug is biting me at the moment. I am looking more forward to NFL football rather than watching PGA Tour golf on TV. And I am not looking forward to golf broadcast commercials. NO PLAYING THROUGH!!!! Yikes!!The new year is upon us and we here are neck deep in the raging waters with all of the rain and wind here in Northern California. I am sort of looking forward to when it dries out a bit to at least go to the putting green. But not the green at Sacramento National. Isao Aoki won the Hawaiian Open 40 years ago this week. I watched a video today published by the PGA Tour Honoring Isao Aoki. I was happy to have watched this because it was really well done. Waialae Country Club in Honolulu still hosts this event 40 years later. I mention in this episode that I have a profile on what is called ListenApp. It is an app that is for Android or iPhone that allows followers to participate in a call in sports talk show type of experience with a host who just so happens to have a podcast. My profile is called TKG Trent on ListenApp. If someone would like to follow me on ListenApp we could possibly have a call in type of golf themed talk show kind of episode where we can chat about golf stuff. Thank you so much for all of the downloads and all of the views on The Knackered Golfist on YouTube in 2022. I sincerely appreciate it! Katie is a leadership consultant, entrepreneur, keynote speaker, and best-selling author. As your virtual mentor – I encourage you to listen to the conversation with Katie from a couple of angles. First, she offers some tips on creating learning organizations and leaders who are learners. Second, if you're a consultant or coach who works with organizations, pay attention to how you can consider these best practices as part of your consulting and coaching. Katie is a Fullbright Scholar who has lived all around the world and has built her career and business success on her learning superpower. She doesn't talk about learning as a business strategy or as part of her consulting. But, it's what she lives. It oozes out of her. It's the subject of her keynote and her book, which I initially thought would be the focus of our conversation. But when we talked, it was all about the power of learning, having a learning mindset and lifestyle, and how transformative learning is to organizations and business owners. In our conversation, Katie shares her unique experience of starting her consulting business, moving to Japan, and forging a deep connection with long-term Toyota executive Isao Yoshino. Isao gave her behind-the-scenes insight into the role of learning and the continuous improvement culture of Toyota. We go deep into the power of having a learning mindset and how it creates the conditions for excellence, risk-taking, and so much more. We also talked about our shared experiences as internal consultants, leaping into business ownership, and how to stay resilient and focused when scaling to new heights. In this episode, you'll hear: Why entrepreneurs constantly need to step outside of their comfort zone to start or scale their business and how it creates fears and imposter syndrome Katie's strategy for development professionals who love to learn How you can use your learning superpower to quell fears quickly when you are taking bigger risks with your business Learning is Katie's superpower, and I bet it is one of yours as a consultant or coach! Last week was CompTIA's Communities and Councils Forums and I thought who better to bring on to the podcast than Wayne Selk the new VP of CompTIA's ISAO. Join us as we break down the differences between ISACs and ISAOs and how MSPs can take advantage of what these different entities have to offer as we navigate cybersecurity.
Some matchups are competitive. Others not so much. And when it comes to bacon versus, well, anything, Matt, Rich, and returning guest host Brian Weiss, of ITECH Solutions, are in lockstep agreement. They also have a lot to say about why the VAM (as opposed to VAR) business model is a winner, Microsoft's total partner program rewrite, CompTIA's decision to give away ISAO access to all its MSP members, Kaseya's new Compliance Manager release, and the first appearance of desktop management in Augmentt's cloud management portfolio. Then they're joined by Charles Ferland of Lenovo for an insider's take on channel opportunities in edge computing. It's a sizzling market! Though not as good as bacon alongside scrambled eggs. For context, we at the K12 Security Information Exchange (K12 SIX) are a relatively new K12-specific ISAC – launched to help protect the US K12 sector from emerging cybersecurity risk. One of our signature accomplishments in our first year was the development and release of our ‘essential protections' series – an effort to establish baseline cybersecurity standards for schools. Ben talked through the announcement of the ISAO and the next steps including offerings on their website and social media platforms. Dave and Ben also looked at the challenges that ISAOs face in getting attention and gaining members, but highlighted the value that they bring and the value of information sharing to the overall strength of the industry. This month, The Cybersecurity Evangelist talks with WaterISAC's Director of Preparedness and Response, Chuck Egli. The conversation ran a little longer than I like to aim for, but it's understandable given that Chuck and I work closely together in support of WaterISAC. Plus, with WaterISAC being one of the oldest ISACs, I'm quite certain they've earned the extra spotlight! After a much longer than normal opening comment (I sense a trend here) running down a list of many of the ISACs - (most of) which you can find on The National Council of ISAC's webpage at https://www.nationalisacs.org/member-isacs - Chuck and I talk about all the ways WaterISAC supports the security and resilience of the water and wastewater sector with an all-hazards approach (not just cyber). Chuck's parting thoughts: Look into your ISAC community or ISAO…there is one for you!! While many have membership models, so many of them offer information and assistance for the benefit of all toward the greater global good. For more information about WaterISAC, check out its webpage at https://www.waterisac.org/
For this November episode of TCE I've decided to take on National Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month, Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month, Critical Infrastructure Month, Infrastructure Security Month, whew! Actually, I've been almost as overwhelmed with responses from people wanting to be a part of this edition as I am with the litany of names given to this critical observance. That said, this edition/theme is likely to be in three or four parts so we can evangelize as many ISAC's (and ISAO's) as we can! During this episode we get the ISAC party started with discussions from DNG-ISAC and MM-ISAC! SecureConnection Podcast: IT Security/Security Experts for MSP’s
In the spirit of Cybersecurity Month, If the bad guys are all working together, then why aren't the good guys? This is a question we have always asked and promoted at our live Expo and Virtual Events where we consistently witness incredible collaborative discussion by IT Professionals. CompTIA have taken this to the next level with their new CompTIA ISAO announced back in the spring. Brian chats with Executive Director, MJ Shoer about the ISAO and what this means for the technology industry. ‘Tools and technology will take us so far, then we need the collective power of the industry to keep everyone safe' states MJ. The CompTIA ISAO (Information Sharing & Analysis Organization) is a cybersecurity early warning system for everyone working in technology, from MSP's to VAR's to Software Companies…It is a threat intelligence sharing system that sends alerts on new threats and vulnerabilities with information on where they are coming from, what is the impact and how we can address it.
