Kanker kansen Over Janny Douma-Rispens Ik ben mijn werk gestart als docent voortgezet onderwijs. Rond mijn 35ste ben ik weer gaan studeren en op mijn 40ste startte ik mijn eigen praktijk als psychosociaal therapeut. Ik ben opgeleid in Systemisch werk, Transactionele Analyse, EMDR, en NLP. Så jeg går og bebrejder mig selv med skam og et ønske om, at jeg burde have lyst til at tage mere hjem og "burde lave om på mig selv". James, the illustrator of The Sacred Web Tarot, is an artist whose mediums range from film making to digital drawing. Just in time for Thanksgiving, we are visiting with new Chamber member Jannie Teitelbaum from Great Lakes Pot Pies.She was semi-retired and was experimenting with healthy bars, when she brough a pie to a Women's event.  She was told "this should be your business." Jannie's business took off from there, with her pies gaining popularity at the Royal Oak Farmer's Market, which played a crucial role in expanding her customer base and necessitating more staff and kitchen time.We touch complexities of entering the food business, particularly the legal aspects. Jannie credits the MSU Product Center for providing invaluable guidance and resources, likening it to having a private consultant. This support was instrumental in navigating the challenges of starting and growing her business.Jannie's pie varieties have evolved over time, starting with large pies and expanding to personal sizes and hand pies. It's early 1835 and globally, quite a few fascinating things are going on. For one, America's National Debt was Zero dollars - for the first and last time in it's history. It's president Andrew Jackson survived an assassination attempt in January of that year, also the first but not the last. Mauritius had banned slavery on the 1st February 1835 as South Africa had done in December 1834. The British began their counter attacks on the Xhosa chiefs who'd invaded across the ceded territories, into the Cape, and wreaked so much havoc - the Sixth Frontier War was rumbling on. Another major event had been brewing for some time. The trekboers had been chafing under the rule of the English and each new law that was supposed to protect the Khoekhoe from abuse, then the ban on slavery, led to the Dutch decedents recoiling seeing these as actions designed to destroy their way of life. It was a litany of abuse as far as the Boers were concerned, including the horror of the Slagter's Nek rebellion, the bungled hanging of the rebels, the use of English as the official language, they were under siege, it was all too much and these were the push factors. But there was the pull factor - those distant landscapes, those far-off mountains that seemed to beckon to the youngsters and those with adventure in mind - this beckoned towards adventurers like an African Medusa. The fact that the land was occupied was of secondary importance, and like Medusa, was imbued with malice and risk. By 1830 the echo of the hills yonder became an obsession for some of the trekboers. 1930 was also the year that the 19 year-old Karel Trichardt met with Hintsa between the Kei and Bashee rivers and asked him for land - and was awarded a 90 year lease on 101 square kilometers near the Kei River. This was not what the British had intended with their segregation of the Colony and the Xhosa areas across the Kei. Trichardt in particular was going to be a thorn in the English side.There were two of the three missionaries still operating amongst the Xhosa, but even these eventually fled. John Brownlee who was safe at his mission station on the Buffalo river, alongside Dyani Tshatshu's Tinde people, found that they turned against him. Tshatshu himself came to Brownlee one night and said the Tinde were going to war against the British, calling on the missionary to join him. Brownlee said he could not, other missionaries heard about this in Grahamstown and sent wagons to get him out - he refused. He and his family were going to pay for his stubbornness.

It is right on the shore of that beautiful lake, Galilee, if you go there, there is a beautiful statue of the Lord Jesus speaking to Peter. That is exactly where He said to the boys, “Have you caught anything.” And they said, “No, Lord.” And He said, “Throw the net on the other side”, and remember? They brought in a huge amount of fish. Three times, the Lord Jesus said to Peter, “Do you love me?” Maybe, some people say because three times Peter had denied the Lord. The Lord said, “Peter do you love me?” “Yes Lord, I love You.” “Feed my sheep.” That is why the Lord Jesus is taking so long to come. He wants everyone to have the opportunity to hear the Gospel. He doesn't want anybody to perish. Maybe you need to go out and tell three people what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for you.You know, I remember it like yesterday, I had just come to know the Lord and I was at a Polo cross game. I was repping the game, standing behind the goal posts. They call polo cross “rugby on horseback”. And my friend, Jannie Barnard was standing next to me and he said to me, “Angus, you have changed. You are different.” And I smiled and he said, “ I want what you have got.” I said, “I will see you tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock in my dream cathedral, in my maize fields.” Well, you know, that afternoon, I didn't know what to say. I was so nervous. I had never told anyone about Jesus. I said, “Jill, I just don't know what to say.” She said, “Just tell him what Jesus means to you.” One hungry beggar showing another hungry beggar where to find bread! Jannie gave his life to Christ in that maize field! We wept, we cried, we hugged each other and a few years later he went to be with the Lord.You know, on that same field, many, many years later, I had the privilege of praying that same prayer, telling people about Jesus - to tens of thousands of men! This is episode 26 and we’re covering events in 1977. The incursions into Ovamboland increased suddenly in early 1977 and the SADF was also concerned about reports that the four frontline states of Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Angola had agreed to support the new wave of insurgency. From early December 1976 SWAPOs armed wing PLAN had set its sights on traditional leaders, literally, who were mostly conservative and well disposed towards the South African administration. To SWAPO, they were sell-outs and had to be eradicated. Then in February 1977, the Caprivi experienced its first incident in two years when a PLAN group opened fire on a South African patrol base near the borders with Angola and Zambia. Three SADF troops were wounded and twelve insurgents were killed in follow up operations before they had time to cross over into Zambia. At the same time, the SADF’s communication operations scheme or hearts and minds campaign, got off the ground. 79 selected national servicemen were withdrawn from other tasks and assigned to teaching duties in black schools in the border area starting on the 22nd March. Just over a week later, on the 31st March, PW Botha announced in Parliament that during the two years since April 1975 a total of 231 insurgents had been killed in Ovamboland, Kavango and the eastern Caprivi. ON the South African side, 33 men had died while Swapo had also killed 53 locals – many were traditional leaders or their family members.
