The Black Lincoln Collective Comedy Podcast: Episode #93 on PopCulturePros (or #178 if you've survived this long)Title: Assy KnollHold on to your hats (and your stomachs), because this week's episode is a chaotic travel tale, a roast fest, and a whack history celebration all rolled into one glorious mess.First up: Fred's disastrous trip to Dallas. If you've ever wondered what happens when you mix hotel-induced illness, no car, and a trip to the Fort Worth Stockyards, you're about to find out. It's a story of cowboy hats, overpriced beef jerky, and the kind of Texas hospitality that says, “Bless your heart,” but also charges $9 for a bottle of water. But the real magic? It's the Roast of Fred. We opened the inbox, and y'all did not hold back. Listeners came with scorched earth energy, and we loved every minute of it. Fred? Not so much. Whether it's his wardrobe, his hot takes, or his “sick in Texas” saga, no part of him was safe—and it's hilarious. And because we're still celebrating Whack History Month, the crew dives into a list of the whackest foods of all time. Jellied meats? Canned cheeseburgers? Raisin hot dogs? You'll laugh. You'll gag. You'll question humanity. So tune in to Episode #93 for comedy, chaos, and more salt than Fred's hotel snacks. It's Assy Knoll—and it's exactly as weird as it sounds.

The Jason & Mindy Podcast

In this episode of the Jason and Mindy podcast, the hosts discuss various topics including the need for lazy days, the benefits of carrots for the skin, and unusual foods from around the world. They also play a water cooler quiz and share their favorite weekend time wasters. The episode ends with an inspirational quote about being your better self.https://www.lowtreestudios.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@lowtreestudios Jason's Segment - LAZY DAYS:According to a survey, the average person feels they need 60 “lazy days” per year in order to feel properly rested. The poll of 2,000 Americans found that adults seem to take their “do nothing” days very seriously, with about one in 5 planning these days in advance, and 11% even marking them on the calendar a few weeks ahead of time. On a typical lazy day, the average person spends 2 hours lying in bed, an hour eating, 3 hours binge-watching movies and TV, an hour reading, and 2 hours scrolling. Three hours are spent doing literally absolutely nothing, 2 hours are spent napping, and a full hour is generally devoted to “dreading the next day”. FRUITS AND VEGGIE TALES:⇒ New research says that carrots aren't just good for your eyes, they also do wonders for the skin. A new study found that snacking on baby carrots 3 times a week increased the levels of skin carotenoids in young adults. High skin carotenoid levels have a link to increased antioxidant protection and a lower risk for chronic diseases — including cancer and heart disease — and also gives the immune system a boost.INEDIBLES:Some “local delicacies” to sample next time you're in these countries…⇒ Jellied eels: A fav street food in London. Eel is boiled, then gelatin is added to the water, and after hardening, it is served with meat pies, potatoes and beer. (LOTS of beer…)⇒ Duck feet: In China, the webbed duck feet are braised, and eaten as a snack with soy sauce. (LOTS of soy sauce…)⇒ Helmet: You can get this from street vendors in the Philippines. What is it? Barbecued chicken heads. (Beaks removed, if that makes it any better…)⇒ Fried pig blood: Common in rural Hungary, it is made by collecting slaughtered pig's blood, and frying it with scrambled eggs. ⇒ Surströmming: In Sweden, this dish is made by soaking Baltic herring in a brine solution, then packing it in a wooden barrel and leaving it in the sun for 24 hours to induce fermentation. Next, it is placed in a cool room for several months. Then it is canned, where it continues to ferment. The smell is compared to extremely rotten fish, or horribly rotten eggs…or to garbage that's been left out in the sun. And just imagine how it tastes! (And imagine what kind of a mind came up with this idea!)

We're tackling that most divisive food trend, the jellied salad, on the podcast this week.  While we draw the line at anything containing meat products, we do enjoy a pretty fruit or vegetable jell-o mold, and we have a few recipes that may turn those haters into jellied salad lovers. If you're new to making them, it may be helpful to know the terms jellied and jell-o may be used interchangeably in recipes. They may be made with fruit flavoured Jell-o brand powder or with plain unflavoured gelatine. If you read a recipe closely, you'll be fine.  Erin made a lime jell-o with shredded cabbage and carrot, which we both remember fondly from childhood. It's still a delicious salad! She also experimented with a type of jellied vinaigrette to serve on a Waldorf salad. It needed work, but we agreed there is potential there. And it's beautiful on the plate!Heather made an old favourite, the sunshine salad. It's lemon jell-o with carrot and pineapple and we love it. She also experimented with a fruity layered salad. One layer had sour cream blended with the jell-o and we quite liked this one too. It's time to bring back the jellied salad. They'll make a stunning and colourful centrepiece on your Easter table this year. And hey, you can avoid talking about politics with your family because everyone will be talking about your jellied creation instead! Win-win all around. There's a crude joke from many years ago that led to a word often used on the show for a dominant run performance. The Seahawks were 'jellied' by the Steelers this past Sunday and on top of ruining a potential playoff berth, it's also one of the worst ways to lose a football game. The loss highlights an issue that has continued to show up on defense throughout Clint Hurtt's time as the defensive coordinator. Is it a coordinator issue or is it a problem that goes all the way to the top? Fortunately (or unfortunately) the Seahawks will be tested by a similar running game this week in the Arizona Cardinals. The NFC West rival is coming off a win over last year's conference champion and it offers an opportunity to highlight the difference in coaching versus player performance. Can the Seahawks bounce back after a loss and put the team in a similar position as last year? Will we be cheering on the Bears to victory in hopes our Seahawks can make the playoffs? After the break we talk about a popular name expected to re-enter the NFL coaching ranks and how unlikely of a fit it would be for the Seahawks. We discuss the potential of a civil war brewing within the show. Which side gets the best caterer? We call out the Seahawks general manager for a missed opportunity recently and to the writer of a Seahawks blog. Better at life honors go out to an elite comment from a Browns player and to the Washington Huskies for their title run. 2023 Podcast Pick'em League Support the show Get in the Flock! What's happening? What's wrong with you? Do you realize what you're saying? Do you know who you're talking to? Snap out of it! Pull yourself together! Can you hear me? Welcome back to the podcast! For our second pocket episode for the very cohesive and not stupid in any way themed month of Ape-ril, we're going to be talking about Ape Escape. This is a Playstation 1 title that necessitates the use of the Dual-Shock analog controller. Which in the grand scheme of things doesn't necessarily sound all that important of a detail to focus on, but playing the game it becomes very clear that its purpose was really to showcase all of things that were possible by having multiple analog sticks (as well as the L3/R3 button concept), and does so in a really unique way. The control scheme of this game is actually really clever, with the face buttons used to switch between multiple gadgets that can be mapped by the player and all use the right stick to function, as well as having jump mapped to the R1 button to keep the stick always available to be used. It was certainly novel at the time, and since we live in a world now where every modern controller has multiple analog sticks, it's clear that the Dual Shock has had an impact with Ape Escape having at least a small part in introducing this concept to players. On top of that, the game is just solidly designed, having a lot of mechanical complexity and player abilities, but with a simple concept and mostly very tightly designed levels. This overall simplicity meant that the player can focus on using platforming, stealth, climbing and all of the different gadgets without sacrificing the flow of the level. We're going to be talking about the successes and failures of the novel control scheme, the legacy of the game and why it's worth playing, and our desire to see someone in a big foam Spike mascot costume. Thank you for joining us this week! This game wasn't an unknown quantity for us coming in, but we were still surprised by just how well this game held up, particularly in the face of some of the older games we've played recently. It really is an interesting title with a lot of good ideas that really haven't been iterated on much outside of its own series. Did this game introduce you to twin stick controllers? Did you have an equally smooth time playing this one in the modern era? Let us know down in the comments or over on our Discord! Next time we're leaving Ape-ril and entering into Mystery May (and then hopefully taking a fairly long break from themes) and we're going to be talking about Gemini Rue, so we hope you'll join us for that!

Welcome to April 22, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate our natural world and the beans that everyone adores.  Scientists refer to Earth's location in our solar system as a “Goldilocks Zone.” In other words, it's just right. Any closer or farther from the sun and the temperature on Earth wouldn't be able to host life. No other planet we know of has this exact combination of factors that make a prime place for humans. We are living on a bonafide miracle. Clean water, breathable air, and animals of every shape and size. All perfect. National Earth Day is a time to better appreciate the natural world around us and to take steps to keep it as bright and vibrant as it can be.  Lots of innovations have come about during wartime. Jet engines, duct tape, digital cameras, even candy. During the early days of the United States Civil War, William Schrafft was working on creating a new type of sweet. He wanted to make something chewy that could be easily shipped and stored. Jellied candy such as Turkish Delights had been popular for centuries but it was sticky and didn't travel well. Then he got the idea to add a hard coating, similar to the one used on Marcona almonds. And voila, the jelly bean was born. This new candy soon became a popular treat to send to Union soldiers. And civilians were pretty excited about them too. On National Jelly Bean Day, enjoy a handful of these colorful, all American sweets. The European eel (Anguilla anguilla) is  a snake-like, migratory fish. Eels spend most of their adult lives as freshwater fish, but are born and die in the ocean. How they're born and how they die scientists are still trying to figure out. And we better figure it out quickly because European eel are a critically endangered species. So no jellied eels for you. But first:Jennifer tells the story of her boomer encounter in the doctor's office. Then, Patagonia (the outdoor clothing company) dumps a ski resort which held a far-right fundraiser. Fuck Marjorie Greene. So little is known about European eels that up to 1777, we didn't realize eels were fish and thought that they spontaneously generated in the "guts of wet soil".  Sigmund Freud couldn't find the eel's male sex organs and gave up on biology entirely in frustration. European eels may use magnetic fields to navigate thousands of miles through the Atlantic Ocean, but who knows why they travel thousands of miles to spawn. Lots of people like to eat European eels, so poaching and smuggling is a big threat to the species. We also have not figured out how to raise them in captivity. Listen now to learn about the European eel, an animal we like to eat, but know very little about. For more information on us, visit our website at betterthanhumanpodcast.comFollow us on Twitter @betterthanhuma1on Facebook @betterthanhumanpodcaston Instagram @betterthanhumanpodcasthttps://www.tiktok.com/@betterthanhumanpodcastor Email us at betterthanhumanpodcast@gmail.comWe look forward to hearing from you, and we look forward to you joining our cult of weirdness!#betterthanhuman #cultofweirdnesYou've got two empty halves of coconut and you're bangin' 'em together.

Today we celebrate the big blue ball and an all American treat.  In 1969, the idea of Earth Day was established at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, CA. By March of the following year the United Nations signed a sanctioned proclamation and another month later, on April 22, 1970, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson founded National Earth Day. Today we encourage you to get outside and pause to listen to the sounds of a very different world.  This beautiful home that holds us all is reason enough to celebrate every day.   Lots of innovations have come about during wartime. Jet engines, duct tape, digital cameras…Even candy. During the early days of the US Civil War, William Schrafft of Boston was working on creating a new type of sweet. He wanted to create something chewy that could be easily shipped and stored. Jellied candy such as Turkish Delights had been popular for centuries but it was sticky and didn't travel well. Then he got the idea to add a hard coating, similar to the one used on Marcona almonds. And—viola—the jelly bean was born. This new candy soon became a popular treat to send to Union soldiers. And civilians were pretty excited about them too. On National Jelly Bean Day, enjoy a handful of these colorful, all-American sweets. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson.  Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.

Sandra and Tom take a look at the stereotype and try figure out where the bad takes came from - it can't be the jellied eel, can it?

This episode, Tom and Sandra explore why English and more broadly, Brit food is saddled with such a bad reputation. With cities like London, boasting 11 million people and more languages than there are countries in the world, there are many cultures represented in both restaurants and cuisines. We learn that the English had a lot of challenges over hundreds of years, but have come through them all with a selection of foods both at home and at the take-aways and restaurants that take back seats to no one. Other than jellied eel. Seriously.

Tiny Mix Tapes | Chocolate Grinder Mixes

My Cube, the new album by Cube (a.k.a. Oakland resident Adam Keith), begins with "First," somehow a lethal subconscious variation on "Undercover of the Night" that's built on shaky ever-shifting soil, on tape jams and spool tangles. The potential for electronic collapse is as real as the possibility of total alignment. Screws are loosened just to see if they'll stay and for how long. It's a rowdy entrance, tipping its cap for turbulence and saying, "Howdy, you can relax now, you're in it already." Cube's guest mix is not a giveaway as to why any of this happens. The tracks selected do not disclose inspiration. However, they do reveal personality. Jellied interjections and mutations occur, leisurely... sipping a mint julep with the radio at foot. One nudge and the radio with the tall antenna tips into the muck for a shock or two. No dead giveaway; it's mostly mint juleps, a little strong, with tall and thick stems. Suppose alchemy can happen when muddling mint, stomping grapes, or nudging radios into the muck for a shock or two. Stream below, and subscribe to our podcast here. The criminologist, Coretta Phillips, talks to Laurie Taylor about her empirical research in Rochester Young Offenders' Institution and Maidstone Prison. Also, reactions to jellied eels. Drawing on a series of ethnographic encounters collected while hanging around at a seafood stand in east London, Alex Rhys Taylor explores the relationship between individual expressions of distaste and the production of class, ethnic and generational forms of distinction.Producer: Jayne Egerton.
