For millennia, the Jewish community has awaited the arrival of Moshiach, yearning for the Final Redemption and Hashem's ultimate revelation. Each day that this event does not unfold serves as a poignant reminder from our Creator that we, as a people, may not yet be prepared for such profound judgment. This shared spiritual destiny underscores a profound truth: we are intrinsically linked, rising and falling as one. Our collective responsibility to each other is both a privilege and a duty. In this compelling episode, we invite Tyler Scholl and Erica Harris to share their personal paths towards Torah observance. Their experiences shed light on the ways we can support one another in our shared mission to live up to the covenant established at Mt. Sinai. ★ Support this podcast ★
Rabbi Refoel & Chani Silver: Sparkling Beaches, Tiki Torch Menorahs & Jewish Outreach in CuraçaoTo inquire about dedicating an episode - please email podcast@lubavitch.comIn June of 2017, Rabbi Refoel and Chani Silver boarded a plane for Curaçao on a fact-finding mission. "We had a meeting one evening at the Shul, and we called upon local members to come. And they had set up a lot, a lot, a lot of chairs, apparently expecting 40 to 50 people. A lot less people showed up. And there was a fellow that got up there, and he says, "Well, look around the room. There are so many empty chairs. Why would you come here?" I said, "You know, that's a great question. But my answer is if I would come here tonight and this room was full, then you don't need me here!” ” - Rabbi Refoel Silver"Beautiful beaches. There's an old town here with colored houses. There's the old synagogue, Shaarei Tzedek, which is a beautiful synagogue. Historical island, with a lot of culture. It's very international." - Rebbetzin Chani Silver "as I was walking down the stairs he looked up to me, he said, “Michael Metsch?" I said to him, "Rabbi Silver?" And he said to me, "Yes." And we went for a coffee. My wife also came. And the three of us sat for about an hour and a half, talking about all the issues in Curaçao." - Michael MetschProduced by: Gary Waleik & Shneur Brook for Lubavitch International/Lubavitch.com - A Project of Machne IsraelAvailable on all major podcast platforms - and online at Lubavitch.com/podcastDid you enjoy listening to this episode? Rabbi Mark Wildes joins the Judaism Demystified podcast for a wide-ranging conversation on the current state of Jewish outreach. Rabbi Wildes shares his journey in Kiruv and delves into the reasons behind the lack of engagement of many Jews with Judaism. Is there a place for both a rationalist and mystical approach to outreach? Is blind faith a Jewish idea? What are the difficulties faced by the post-Kiruv Baal Teshuvah who eventually loses his/her initial inspiration? Trigger Warning: We discuss suicide in this episode. Yaakov here, I encourage you to listen to this episode. It's one of the most powerful episodes I've ever recorded. Aliza is so strong. Aliza Bulow is the founder and director of Core, an organization that connects Jewish women and strengthens Jewish homes and communities. In addition, she travels regularly to offer guidance, leadership training and strategic planning for Jewish Outreach organizations and Jewish communities throughout the continent. Born to activist parents in the 1960's, Aliza's community building began early as her upbringing was intensely impacted by her parents' deep commitment to the civil rights movement. Her own activism took root during her early high school years in the fight for freedom for Soviet Jews. Her passion for Judaism and the Jewish people then took her to Israel where she studied for 2 years at Michlelet Bruria and Hebrew University. With a growing desire to build and contribute, Aliza explored various avenues to serve the State of Israel and finally chose to enlist in the Israeli Defense Forces from 1982-1984, during the first Lebanon war. She served in the Nachal Unit with a religious group that was dedicated to building communities in the Land of Israel. Though her dream was to stay in Israel, her soul mate was in law school in America. She married Ephraim Bulow after he graduated, and then they traveled to Russia to visit refusniks before setting up their own home in Long Beach, NY. We discuss: being a giyorit, working in the army, raising a child with autism, life after her son's suicide, her marriage, starting Core and so much more. Rabbi Lazer Brody was born in Washington, D.C. in 1949. After receiving his bachelor's degree in agriculture from the University of Maryland in 1970, he moved to Israel and joined the Israel Defense Forces regular army, and served in one of the elite special-forces units. He is a decorated combat veteran of two wars and dozens of counter-insurgency and anti-terrorist missions on both sides of Israel's borders. After surviving a near-suicidal mission to Beirut during the Israel-Lebanon conflict of 1982, Brody could no longer ignore the hand of G-d in his life. He became a baal-tshuva and left his mountaintop farm to study Torah in Jerusalem. Nine years of intensive Talmudic, ethics, and legal studies, led to his rabbinical ordination in 1992. He devoted another two years of postgraduate study to personal and family counseling and subsequently spent two years as rabbi and spiritual rehabilitation director of a major Israeli prison. There, he created a highly successful program of spiritual rehabilitation for prisoners based on Tshuva. In 1996, Brody moved to Ashdod and became the understudy of the famed Melitzer Rebbe, a contemporary giant in rabbinical law and personal counseling. Today, Lazer Brody dedicates his time to Jewish Outreach, and particularly to spreading the teachings of Rebbe Nachman of Breslev around the globe.Committed to all of humanity, Rabbi Brody's blog posts, podcasts, and live Zoom lectures are free of charge, so that money is no barrier to the health and happiness that you yearn for.I love what Rabbi Brody is all about. A number of recent incidents—from a fracas over Whoopi Goldberg's comments about the role of race in the Holocaust to a smear campaign launched against Tema Smith, the Anti-Defamation League's new Director of Jewish Outreach—have highlighted the continued prevalence of anti-Black racism in the American Jewish community and its ongoing exclusion of Black Jews. In this episode, Contributing Writer Rebecca Pierce brought together Black Jewish artists and activists—Yiddish-language performer Anthony Russell, visual artist and organizer Reuben Telushkin, and kohenet and social worker Shoshana Brown—to discuss the policing of Jewish communal space, racism and labor in Jewish organizations, and alternative visions for Black Jewish politics and worlds. The Kiruv movement, or the Baal Teshuva movement, or the movement of Jewish Outreach, is a curious postwar historical phenomenon. In the counter culture environment of the 1960's, many youth began searching for their Jewish identity and roots, and pioneers and eventually institutions began to fill the role of providing them. The Lubavitcher Rebbe, the Bostoner Rebbe, Reb Shlomo Carlebach, Rabbi Shlomo Freifeld, Rebbetzin Esther Jungreis, Rabbi Pinchos Stolper with NCSY, are just some of the many pioneers in the United States. In Israel the movement gained more steam following the Yom Kippur War. Rav Reuven Elbaz, Rav Shlomo Wolbe and many others pioneered it there. Eventually American kiruv institutions were established in Israel such as Ohr Samayach and Rav Nota Schiller, Aish Hatorah and Rav Noach Weinberg, Diaspora Yeshiva and Rav Mordechai Goldstein and Dvar Yerushalayim with Rav Boruch Horowitz to name a few. Sponsored by Ohr Somayach who is proud to announce a new series on the Ohr Somayach Podcast Network: “The History of the Baal Teshuva Movement” by Rabbi Nota Schiller, Founder and Rosh HaYeshiva of Ohr Somayach. Join Rabbi Jeff and his son Ahron Wohlgelernter in a thoughtful and timely conversation every week. This week we discuss Chanukah and Miracles, the love of wisdom, Rabbi Jeff's library, and a novel approach bringing others into our Mitzvah observance and how Jewish outreach should be done! -- We hope with this series to bring you a little taste of those shabbos conversations in order that you can either bring up these topics at your table or be empowered to make your own engaging conversations. So break out a L'Chaim, reheat some Chulent, and Enjoy! -- We need a new approach to how shabbos meals are run. Many people look forward to Shabbos as a time of rest and family bonding but they are only disappointed week after week after very frustrating meal times. Kids don't want to be there, Parsha sheets just don't make the cut, and the conversation just usually ends up being about work. We found that the most inspiring, fun, engaging, and informative meals at our home were those that the conversation was flowing. Conversations were always oriented around the Torah perspective on things happening in the world. The children were always engaged and the guests were comfortable sharing their perspectives. The one thing that didn't happen is a formal Dvar Torah or Parsha class. At our Shabbos meals, no one looked at their watch! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EITAN KATZ MUSIC USB: http://www.eitankatz.com/usb -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have a bone to pick? email - info@intentionaljew.com https://www.intentionaljew.com/shows/think-torah/ Subscribe to our newsletter: https://www.intentionaljew.com/contact-us-advertise-with-us/

J.K. McKee of Messianic Apologetics goes through the six study questions for Unit Four in The Messianic Walk workbook: 1. How have you been involved in declaring the good news to your friends and neighbors? Why do you think that Jewish evangelism might be somewhat different than reaching other people groups? 2. Why are some of the standard religious terms, used by contemporary Christianity, rather offensive to Jewish people? Have you ever consciously considered how other people might be turned off to the good news, by a word or term that you have used? 3. What are some of the significant ways that you can reach out to your Jewish friends and neighbors with the good news of Messiah? How much do you understand the Jewish struggle in history? How much do you need to improve your understanding of the Jewish experience? 4. In your own words, summarize the importance of Jewish outreach and evangelism. How important is this to your local assembly? How important is it to you, personally? 5. Are you aware of the various non-Jewish movements, associated with the term “Messianic” in some way? Have you ever encountered them? If so, describe your experience. 6. What do you think might be the major problem involved with the various non-Jewish movements associating as “Messianic” or “Hebrew Roots”? Do you think they are facilitating the legitimate purposes of the Messianic mission? Why or why not?
On this episode of Jewanced, Dan and Benny sat down with the ever-fascinating Abigail Pogrebin, an award-winning author, journalist, former Emmy-nominated television producer, Jewish leader and Jewish outreach director for former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's 2020 Presidential campaign. She is also the author of Stars of David: Prominent Jews Talk about Being Jewish, for which Abigail interviewed 62 famous American Jews — from Ruth Bader Ginsburg to Steven Spielberg — about their religious identity. Her book, One and the Same delved into every aspect of growing up as a twin — of which Abby is one. (The identical kind.) Her bestselling Kindle Single, Showstopper, chronicled her teenage adventures on Broadway in a rare Sondheim flop. She was an Emmy-nominated producer for Mike Wallace at 60 Minutes, and before that produced for Bill Moyers at PBS. She has moderated conversations at The Streicker Center, The JCC in Manhattan, UJA Federation, and the Shalom Hartman Institute.
