Pastor Andrew Burchfield's sermon, "Keep the Faith In The Marketplace," encourages listeners to integrate their faith with their work and daily lives, viewing the marketplace as an essential place for ministry and leadership. The sermon reframes conventional ideas about leadership, wealth, and the role of faith in professional settings, inviting believers to see their work as a calling and an opportunity to positively influence the world around them. Redefining Leadership and Marketplace: Pastor Andrew reinterprets conventional definitions, broadening their scope to include everyday interactions and environments [1]. Leadership: Leadership is defined not by title or position but by the ability to positively influence the atmosphere and attitudes of others daily [2]. This definition encompasses various roles, including parents, employers, and employees [2]. Marketplace: The marketplace is any arena where conversations and influence occur, extending beyond traditional business settings to include schools, volunteer work, and even casual encounters at grocery stores [3, 4]. According to Pastor Andrew, the marketplace is a space for meaning, influence, and moments that honor Jesus [5]. Biblical Basis for Prosperity: The sermon addresses common misconceptions about wealth and Christianity, arguing that God empowers individuals to create wealth and achieve success [6]. Deuteronomy 8:18: This scripture is foundational, asserting that God gives people the power to generate wealth [6]. The sermon references multiple translations to highlight different aspects of this power [6, 7]: NIV: God gives the ability to produce wealth [6]. New Living Translation: God gives the power to be successful [7]. Amplified Bible: God gives the power to make wealth, remembered with profound respect [7]. Pastor Andrew clarifies that the ability to create wealth does not negate the need for hard work or the potential for hardship [6]. Old Testament Examples: The sermon cites numerous figures to illustrate that faith and prosperity are not mutually exclusive [8, 9]: Abraham: A wealthy livestock owner [8]. Isaac: Successful in agriculture [8]. Jacob: Managed large flocks and strategically bred animals [8]. Joseph: Managed a national food supply chain in Egypt [9]. Boaz: A wealthy landowner and grain merchant [9]. Solomon: Involved in international trade and shipping [9]. Lydia: A seller of purple cloth [9]. New Testament Examples: Peter, Andrew, James, and John: Fishermen before becoming disciples [9]. Matthew: A tax collector before becoming a disciple [9]. Practical Ways to Keep Faith in the Marketplace: Pastor Andrew offers practical guidance on integrating faith into daily interactions and professional conduct. He shares four ways to keep the faith in the marketplace, noting that six more are available on bwc.online [10]. Conversations: Words have the power to shape the world [10]. Referenced Scripture: Colossians 4:6 advises that speech should be gracious and thoughtful [11]. Character: Personal integrity influences one's impact [12]. Referenced Scripture: Proverbs 10:9 states that integrity ensures security [12]. Creativity: Innovation is a divine gift for solving problems and shaping the future [13]. Story of Bezalel from Exodus 31:2-5, who was gifted in creating the Tabernacle and Ark of the Covenant [14]. Consistency: Consistent actions create significant influence [15]. Referenced Book: The Atomic Habit by James Clear highlights the power of small, incremental improvements [15]. Referenced Scripture: Luke 16:10 emphasizes faithfulness in small matters [15]. Analogy of a Guitar: To underscore the importance of consistency, Pastor Andrew uses the analogy of a guitar. He explains that just as each string on a guitar must be properly tuned to create harmonious music, different areas of our lives (emotions, appearance, desires, physical health, and eternal perspective) must be consistent to live in harmony with God's will [16, 17]. Each string represents a different note: E, A, D, G, B, and E [16]. When one aspect is out of tune, it affects the overall quality and effectiveness of our lives and witness in the marketplace [16, 17].

Sin has marred our understanding of identity, but through Jesus Christ, we can be restored to our true identity as image-bearers of God. Why Christians Can Be Entrepreneurs with God's Anointing and Favor Website: www.PastorTodd.org To give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give 1. Biblical Basis for Work and Entrepreneurship Scripture: Colossians 3:23-24 - "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." Explanation: This passage encourages believers to work diligently and with excellence, as their ultimate service is to the Lord. Christian entrepreneurs can view their businesses as a form of worship and service to God, aiming to reflect His character in their work. 2. God's Favor in Business Scripture: Deuteronomy 8:18 - "And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day." Explanation: God gives the ability to create wealth, which can be used to further His kingdom. Recognizing that God is the source of all blessings instills a sense of stewardship and responsibility in Christian entrepreneurs. 3. Anointing for Impact Scripture: Isaiah 48:17 - "Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: 'I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go.'" Explanation: God guides and teaches His people to be successful. Christian entrepreneurs can seek God's wisdom and guidance in their business decisions, trusting in His direction for profitability and impact. 4. Stewardship and Kingdom Funding Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:17-19 - "Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life." Explanation: Wealth and resources are seen as tools for good works and advancing God's purposes. Christian entrepreneurs can use their businesses to fund kingdom activities, such as missions, charity, and church planting. 5. Influence and Testimony Scripture: Matthew 5:16 - "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Explanation: Successful Christian businesses can serve as a testimony to God's goodness and faithfulness. The way Christian entrepreneurs conduct their businesses—with integrity, generosity, and excellence—can draw others to Christ. 6. Fulfilling the Great Commission Scripture: Matthew 28:19-20 - "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Explanation: By funding kingdom initiatives, Christian entrepreneurs play a vital role in the Great Commission. Their resources can support evangelistic efforts, discipleship programs, and other ministry activities worldwide. 7. Community Development Scripture: Jeremiah 29:7 - "And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace." Explanation: Christian businesses can contribute to the welfare and prosperity of their communities. By creating jobs, supporting local economies, and engaging in charitable activities, entrepreneurs can bring God's peace and blessing to their surroundings. 8. Role Modeling Godly Principles Scripture: Proverbs 16:3 - "Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established." Explanation: When Christian entrepreneurs commit their businesses to God, they model trust in God's sovereignty and principles. Their commitment can inspire others to adopt godly values in their own work and personal lives. 9. Blessing Others Scripture: Acts 20:35 - "I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" Explanation: Successful Christian businesses have the opportunity to bless others generously. Whether through philanthropy, fair business practices, or community support, they can demonstrate Christ's love and compassion in practical ways. 10. Faith and Dependence on God Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." Explanation: Christian entrepreneurs learn to depend on God for wisdom, direction, and provision. This reliance strengthens their faith and aligns their business endeavors with God's purposes.
