This season, she was a key contributor for the Bruins on vault, bars, and floor, posting career highs of 9.975 on vault, 9.925 on bars and 9.95 on floor. In the latest episode of Mental Gymnastics, Dr. JD Barton is joined by Jacey Vore, a two-time Big Ten Champion at the University of Michigan. Before her collegiate career, Jacey was one of the nation's top Level 10 gymnasts, earning the 2019 Level 10 National All-Around title, qualifying for the Nastia Cup three times, and finishing as a two-time runner-up in the event.At Michigan, Jacey became a consistent presence in the Wolverines' bar and beam lineups. This week we're excited to bring you this interview with the talented Maggie Slife, who is currently dominating her junior season at Air Force! A two-time Mountain West Gymnast of the Year, she has also earned Specialist of the Year honors across the all-around and every event. Maggie holds multiple program and conference records, including a 9.975 on bars and beam and a 39.675 in the all-around, and ranks among the top eight gymnasts in the nation on bars and in the all-around. This week we're joined by Ava Jordan, a junior at the University of Michigan. In her freshman year, she competed on vault in all but one meet, notching a season-best 9.85 in her very first collegiate appearance. She took things up a notch during her sophomore season, consistently competing in both the vault and bars lineups and earning her first career 9.9 score on bars at the Big Ten Championships.Now in her junior season, she's making an even bigger contribution to the Wolverines by adding beam to the mix and scoring career highs on all three events: a 9.9 on vault, 9.925 on bars, and 9.95 on beam. This week's guests are sisters Morgan Price and Frankie Price.Morgan Price spent the first three seasons of her college career at Fisk University, competing for the first HBCU gymnastics team. She won six WCGNIC national titles and became the first HBCU gymnast to score a 10.0, earning the mark on uneven bars during her junior season. Now a senior at the University of Arkansas, she recently made history again as the first Razorback gymnast to score a 10.0 on vault.She is closing out her career alongside her sister, Frankie, a mainstay in Arkansas' vault and floor lineups. Frankie owns career highs of 9.9 on vault and 9.975 on floor — the latter matching the program record. This week, we're excited to be joined by Theresa Kulikowski-Gillespie, a 1995 Team World bronze medalist and Olympic alternate for the gold-medal-winning 1996 U.S. women's gymnastics team. Theresa competed collegiately at the University of Utah, where she was a 14-time All-American and won three individual NCAA titles — including the all-around and balance beam as a freshman in 1999.Following her gymnastics career, Theresa served as a physician assistant in the U.S. Army from 2009 to 2012, including a deployment to Iraq from 2010 to 2011. Today, she runs My Mindful Medicine, where she helps people heal and become the best version of themselves through guided meditation, support groups, and one-on-one mindfulness sessions.In 2024, Theresa published Beyond the Chalk Box, a book that explores the challenges and triumphs of former elite gymnasts through their own stories and reflections. We loved reading it and are excited to have Theresa on the show to dive deeper into the book. We've got another new face on the show, and we're very excited about this one — Ashley Johnston, who is entering her fourth season as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.Ashley was an incredible athlete in her own right before becoming a coach. She was a 10-time All-American during her career at Alabama and helped lead the Tide to two SEC titles and two NCAA championships. Forky meets the new girl forky and he says "I will explain everything" which directly leads into the Disney+ show "Forky asks a question" in November. I think if that little series is popular, they could continue stories there too. James F writes in, “Obviously, the story for Toy Story 5 would be that the toys have become depressed and suicidal because all children want to do is play on their phones.” Justin D from Dallas writes in, “I was thought of this idea for a potential Toy Story 5. It's several years later after the events of Toy Story 4. And toy stores are going out of business and kids are becoming more and more interested in electronic media instead of actual toys. Thus, the toys become more vintage and increase in worth. Bonnie in the meantime is hitting her preteen years and is growing less interested in toys and is playing with them less and less. On top of that Bonnie's parents are having a tough time financially and have decided to downsize. That's when Bonnie's parents decide that it may be a good idea to sell the toys on Ebay. Where some of them fetch pretty high prices. Some of the lesser toy characters get sold to different people but the majority of the lot is sold to one lady. Meanwhile, Woody and Bo while travelling with the carnival receive a message from Buzz who has kept up with them by reading on the internet where their destinations will be. After Woody and Bo receive the message. They decide to extract their friends before they get shipped out to where they are being sold. Adventure ensues, and despite their efforts. They fail to stop them from being sent. Then they, find the address of who they were sold to. And go there, and it is revealed that the buyer was Andy's wife and that the lot of toys bought were an anniversary present for Andy. Andy of course stunned that he has his old toys back, shares the stories and adventures of him and his toys with his now young child. Woody while tempted to join them. Decides that visiting periodically when the carnival is near will give him the opportunity to watch Andy, his child and his friends for many years to come. PS... Toy Story 6 will be the gang trying to save Andy's Marriage.” Chris W from Michigan writes in “This somewhat goes off Peter's idea of Andy wanting to reminisce his childhood. My idea is two part FINALE! Several years after TS4 the original toys see on TV that Andy is working for a toy company as a designer. They see that he WAS a young rising start in the toy industry, but is going through a form of "Designer Block" and his reputation is taking a huge hit. The toys know he needs them, specifically, Woody to get through this tough time. Part one includes them tracking down the carnival to find Woody. The second part includes their adventure to get to Andy. They find him, and he is surprised and shocked to see them. With his new inspiration, he create new toys that boost his reputation. Andy pledges to never let his toys go again and the entire crew lives happily ever after for the FINAL time! For the record I didn't want a Toy Story 4, but I do feel this opens up a number of possibilities. For example, Woody could have his own series focuses on him traveling around with Bo and the sheep. In The Mailbag: The other day we talked about how no one seems to want to direct James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Brian Thomas wrote in with a suggestion “Couldn't Peyton Reed do it? Just team him up with the GotG2 art team and crew to get the world right, and hand him James Gunn's script. I thought Ant-Man and the Wasp was every bit as good as GotG2. He clearly “gets” how to make a sci-fi action comedy with an ensemble cast. You'd just have to convince him to do it, I guess.” Koji from Tokyo, Japan writes in “Big fan of the podcast! Listening everyday!I have a question for you guys. What app do you use for tracking movies and TV series you've seen?”Are there any other movie apps that you use in some way worth mentioning? Greg M from Australia writes in “Love the show, have been listening for around a year now. I find the knowledge and enthusiasm displayed by you and the team really inspiring. Keeps me motivated to continue working on my own scripts, and reminds me that the world of cinema is more rewarding the closer you look. Which brings me to my question. Australia is not known for having exemplary or timely access to all the TV and movies that are out there, and even with the addition of streaming services, it's still an uphill battle. Now I'm not talking about finding obscure or dated titles, I'm talking about finishing off my watch list for 2018! I live in Brisbane - a city of over a million people - but even in a town this size, our cinemas don't show anything remotely obscure. Melbourne and Sydney aren't much better. One recent example is that only one cinema here showed 'Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot', and then only for about a week. And that is NOT an underground movie. That is not some festival film that "no one cares about". In 2018 I watched around 45 films from the year. I was floored to hear that Chris watched over 300. So my question to you then becomes: "How do I watch more movies in 2019?". I know there's no magic bullet solution but there has to be a way to see the films the cinemas won't show. Are there any industry tips or tricks you can share? I'd prefer to do it legally also - I have cinephile friends that just pirate movies they can't see elsewhere, but that sucks for everyone really. Please help me, it's fucking absurd that these things get made and then no one gets to watch them.” Derrek from Buffalo, NY writes in “Thanks for all the good listening this year. I wanted to pose to the slash film crew this question...when is the best time in a theater to eat your concessions? Do you eat your snacks during the previews? Some before, some during?
