And we're back! Thanks for your patience as we slogged through April. End of term is no joke, you guys.We have decided to move on from PSH (always in our hearts) and jump into summer blockbuster season. Specifically, we're gonna talk about the Terminator franchise! Charlie is ever so eager to talk about Mackenzie Davis's arms, but first, we need to talk about The Terminator (James Cameron, 1984). This movie is OBSESSED with baby-having and tech vs. analog and, weirdly, male virginity, and we talk about all of it!We'd love it if you would rate our little ol' pod and comment, and we'd also love to hear from you at thejuiciestbitspodcast@gmail.com if you feel like writing us some electronic mail. Also, you may have noticed our beautiful new art! We're pleased as punch with this design from our pal Tim Dyck. Thanks, Tim!
Torsten and Sabrina are charmed by Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan (and Adam Driver and Mackenzie Davis and Megan Park…) in an indie romcom out of Toronto that more people should have seen, but also more people than we thought have seen. Ok, a medium amount of people have seen this. It's great, be one of them. They talk about a few things you may want to check out:– Variety's review of the movie: https://variety.com/2013/film/global/the-f-word-review-toronto-1200607906/– Another review from The Wrap: https://www.thewrap.com/what-if-review-daniel-radcliffe-zoe-kazan-adam-driver/Welcome to “In Front of Ira,” the podcast in which historians, friends, and lovers… of romcoms Sabrina Mittermeier and Torsten Kathke discuss how the romantic comedy genre has evolved, what it can tell us about society, and whether this movie is worth watching.Find us @infrontofira on various social media apps and drop us a line at infrontofirapod@gmail.comOur music is “Night in Venice” by Kevin MacLeod.
This week, Clarisse chats to Gareth Evans about his new, Tom Hardy-fronted action movie, HAVOC (05:00). Meanwhile, Ben Affleck is back as autistic assassin Christian Wolff in THE ACCOUNTANT 2 (21:05), while Christopher Abbott and Mackenzie Davis star as a couple whose fragile marriage is threatened by the arrival of Ariane Labed in SWIMMING HOME (40:46). Plus, in our HOT TAKE (56:17), with SINNERS raking it in at the box office, we look at the unusual deal Ryan Coogler made with Warner Bros and ask: what does this mean for the future of Hollywood? If you would like to donate directly towards humanitarian aid in Gaza please visithttps://www.map.org.uk/https://www.safebowgazanaid.com/take-action-nowJoin the conversation or suggest a Hot Take for the gang to discuss tweet us at @FadeToBlackPodFollow us: @amonwarmann, @clarisselou, @hannainesflintMusic by The Last SkeptikIf you like the show do subscribe, leave a review and rate us too!

We continue our slate of episodes looking back at the films of 2024 by covering two films at once! SPEAK NO EVIL was a Dutch horror nightmare written and directed by Christian Tafdrup that shook audiences with its bold, horrific narrative in 2022. Last year, James Watkins adapted an American remake starring James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis that drastically changed the final third of the story and reframed some differing themes. We're joined by friend of the show, writer and director of last year's What You Wish For, Nicholas Tomnay for a thoughtful and insightful discussion of the film's fascinating and complex themes, including our unwillingness to speak up when we're in awe of charismatic figures and our inability to break free from clear and present danger when we're worried about social norms. Also featuring a Patron-only segment where Lackey the Listicle counts down the 8 greatest horror remakes of all time, this is a hearty and fun conversation that we hope you all enjoy.Patron Only Segment: Lackey the Listicle on The Greatest Horror Remakes6:54 - SPEAK NO EVIL (2022 & 2024)See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

A heartwarming story about redemption and drapery, with great performances, direction, story, action, and um.... Did you know there was a 6th Terminator movie? A lot of people don't. It was a proper sequel to T2, and it was incredible. 5 years ago, critics and audiences alike praised this movie, but... It doesn't seem to exist anymore. That all changes here and now.Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes and Gabriel Luna are quite good at the core of the story, and then Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger show up to create a best case legacy sequel. It's time for us to finally have the conversation that needed to happen about Terminator: Dark Fate. Before we go on, where do you stand on bad guys that can turn their hands into swordy things? If that sounds like something, this is the movie for you. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

To celebrate the release of Blumhouse's 2024 remake of the 2022 Danish film Speak No Evil, we're diving into the similarities and differences between the original and the remake. The original, directed by Christian Fardrup and starring Morten Burian and Sidsel Siem Koch, is a bleak story about a friendship between two families that quickly unravels. The 2024 remake by James Watkins and starring James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis, is a more accessible but unnecessary retelling that somehow mirrors and varies WILDLY from its source material. Synopsis While on vacation, or holiday as the British say, the American expat Dalton family meet another family of three headed by Paddy (James McAvoy). After they return to their flat in London, they receive a postcard from Paddy inviting them to spend a long weekend with their family at their farm in the Western countryside of Britain. Initially hesitant, since they barely know each other, the Daltons decide to go. As the weekend progresses, Paddy's jovial irreverent demeanor reveals a more overbearing and nefarious personality underneath. By the time they find out how much danger they are in, it's too late, and the Daltons fight to escape. If you think that that synopsis is too spoilery, you should see the trailer! Review of Speak No Evil (2024) As many of you know, this is a remake of a Danish film of the same name that only came out two years ago. I was the only one here that hasn't seen it before my viewing, so my experience with it is different from Max and Sydney. I think it gives my review less of a bias. I think this movie is really good. On it's own it is a very compelling thriller that is well crafted and acted. James McAvoy really shines as Paddy, and perfectly strikes the tone of an overbearing line pusher with a barely contained rage underneath. Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis playing ben and Louise act as the perfect foil to Paddy and each others characters. I found the set up and character development throughout the film to be rich and interesting, and it made the awkward and disturbing situations more interesting because it felt very real. The fans of the original will have a real beef with the ending, which is way more Hollywood and safe for a thriller, but for me it still works great. Score 8/10

Daniel and Erwin review James Watkin's and Blumhouse's remake of the 2022 Film "Speak No Evil" They talk about the stand out James McAvoy performance, the idea of foreign remakes and if they need to exist, movie trailers showing WAY too much, and if this 2024 "Speak No Evil" needed to happen. Did they love it? Did they hate it? Or...are they Somewhere Between? Listen to find out!Cast: James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, Aisling FranciosiDescription:A dream holiday turns into a living nightmare when an American couple and their daughter spend the weekend at a British family's idyllic country estate.Release date: September 13, 2024 (USA)Director: James WatkinsDistributed by: Universal PicturesBased on: Speak No Evil; by: Christian Tafdrup; Mads TafdrupBudget: $15 millionMusic by: Danny Bensi; Saunder Jurriaans
James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, and Scoot Mcnairy (contender for funnies name) star in this 2024 remake of the 2022 Danish film, "Speak No Evil". It's tension, it's discomfort, and it's fear - all mixed with a good amount of social satire and commentary that might leave you feeling a bit puzzled. The real question is - is it any good? We're talking about it on this week's episode! Spoiler Free - 1:28 SPOILERS - 20:49 News - 1:09:57
I've been a very big fan of Mackenzie Davis' for some time. I quite enjoyed our very first interview for What If back in 2013 and, like many out there, absolutely adored the AMC series, Halt and Catch Fire. While my enthusiasm for Davis' work continues, the more we talk, the more why I'm drawn to her work in general comes into focus. During this latest conversation, Davis noted, “I do really give a shit, and I'm not a good liar.” That right there sums up her vibe in all interviews. Her answers are always impassioned and honest. Not only does that make her an especially wonderful Collider Ladies Night guest, but those qualities bolster every single film she's in, including her latest, Speak No Evil.Inspired by the 2022 Danish original, James Watkins' Speak No Evil stars Davis and her Halt and Catch Fire co-star, Scoot McNairy, as Louise and Ben, a couple vacationing with their daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler) in Italy. While there, they meet Paddy (James McAvoy), Ciara (Aisling Franciosi), and their son, Ant (Dan Hough). After enjoying their getaway with this far more free-spirited couple, it's time for Louise and Ben to return home where they must face relationship woes and financial struggles. When they receive an invitation to visit Paddy and Ciara's countryside home, they accept hoping that another day-to-day shake-up could be just what they need to put them on a better path. The trouble is, this particular getaway is destined to become a psychological nightmare. The original Speak No Evil is an exceptional film, which left many wondering, why remake it, especially so soon after the original's release? Admittedly, I was quite skeptical myself, but then I saw the new movie. Not only is Watkins' Speak No Evil a hugely entertaining and effective thrill, but it's also one that sparks a fascinating conversation about human connection and how far one is willing to be pushed. In particular, how far can Davis' Louise be pushed before she's had enough and must leave that house? The movie's success hinges on Davis' ability to get the audience on board with Louise's internal struggle and, courtesy of her pursuit of truth in her work, she pulls that off exceptionally well. With Speak No Evil now playing in theaters nationwide, Davis joined me for her second Collider Ladies Night conversation to recap how she developed her approach to her work as an actor, and how she applied it to Louise in Speak No Evil to ensure you're with her every single step of the way throughout this extremely twisted vacation. For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham & Cody Dericks to review and discuss the American remake of the 2022 Danish film "Speak No Evil," also titled "Speak No Evil" starring James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, Aisling Franciosi, Alix West Lefler, Dan Hough, Kris Hichen & Motaz Mulhees. Written and directed by James Watkins, this Blumhouse-produced remake is highly similar to the original film until its finale. What did we think of it? How do the two films compare? What did we think of the performances? Will horror fans enjoy this or be let down by its blow-burn pacing? Tune in as we discuss these elements and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. On this week's show, Megan and Dave watched SPEAK NO EVIL (2:29), writer-director James Watkins' remake of the Danish film from 2022. As with many non-American horror films remade for American audiences, the new SPEAK NO EVIL leaves the original's first two-thirds relatively unchanged and then kicks the last third in the ass, replacing it with a watered down ending that, while not entirely stupid, ain't exactly aces. (That being said, the Danish original is extreme. Take a listen to our reactions to it here.) So while we weren't enamored of this new version, we think leads Mackenzie Davis and James McAvoy (at 100 percent) do excellent work, and the changes do have a few good moments sprinkled in. (And Megan likes Aisling Franciosi's performance, too.) Then we talk about SEEKING MAVIS BEACON, a documentary by director Jazmin Jones about her attempts, along with producer Olivia McKayla Ross, to find Renée L'Esperance, the Haitian (and original) model for the software program Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. We had varied reactions, with Dave being more forgiving (!!) than Megan and Evan, who feel the film is dragged down by its pacing and all the problems that can come with uneven editing. Over on Patreon, we watched another movie that has a big twist: PRIMAL FEAR with Richard Gere, Laura Linney, and Edward Norton. It was a first-time watch for Evan, and we have fun talking about how the ending and wheether it holds up 28 years later.
Speak No Evil In this US Blumhouse remake of Speak No Evil, (a blisteringly fast-turnaround of the Danish original film from 2022 of the same name) James McAvoy, Aisling Franciosi, Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy learn the true meaning of making new friends as an adult: abject horror. Parenting, social niceties, politeness and vicious murder and death all play their part in this extremely well thought out "Elevated Horror". the real question comes in when we explore how necessary it might be, given the original came out barely 2 years prior and was also mostly in english. Dion and Peta are out this week, so Jill and Quinny are going though the horror show together. Errata: in the podcast Quinny regularly says the other version of the film is Dutch. it is not, it is Danish, and it was released in 2022, not 2023. We apologize for the mistake. Welcome to your favorite movie podcast, Not a Bomb!! This is the podcast where we revisit some of the biggest box office failures in cinema history and explore whether they deserve a second chance. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we've received over the last 200 episodes and we look forward to many more. For this special occasion, we decided to discuss the seminal science fiction film, Blade Runner. Despite its status as a thought-provoking and visually stunning work of art, the initial release of the film was a commercial flop. We also talk about the 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, which strikes a perfect balance between building on the legacy of the original and standing on its own as a great film. Unfortunately, the sequel also bombed and failed to make a profit for the studios. To delve into these two iconic science-fiction works, we welcomed a special guest, Cam, offering a Gen Z perspective. This episode wouldn't have been the same without Cam, and we're excited to have him share his insights on this captivating futuristic saga.Blade Runner is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, M. Emmet Walsh, Daryl Hannah, William Sanderson, Brion James and Joe Turkel.Blader Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Caral Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared LetoIf you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at NotABombPod@gmail.com or Contact Us - here. This year on the podcast we're going to be all about Holiday Spirit movies: films that are undeniably about Christmas, but don't heavily feature supernatural or magical elements like toy-making elves or flying reindeer. We'll be re-running a bunch of discussions of these kinds of movies from Michael's old Sleigh Bell Cinema podcast, but to kick things off, Michael and Rob talk about Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis in Happiest Season. The movie seems like a standard romantic comedy at first, but there are plot twists and a fantastic cast that includes Mary Steenburgen, Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Victor Garber, and Dan Levy. And stay tuned for a spoiler-filled discussion of Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas at the end.
