It was an absolute delight speaking to Olivera about her role in the Shudder Original, “Hell Hole” which is due to be released on Shudder today! We spoke about her character in the movie and how passionate she is about the environment and animals outside her acting career. She is definitely the kind of person you would love to know on a more personal level. Which therein gives you an idea why Toby Poser and her husband John Adams chose her to be in this movie – that and she is quite talented as well. In a sense, this movie is quite the comparison to John Carpenter's “The Thing” from 1982. According to Olivera, there are some similarities: the scientists, the isolation, and the cold weather. Aside from what I learned from Olivera about this movie, I am super stoked to watch it and keep an eye out for my review. For those that would like to support Olivera, please follow her on Instagram and watch her in “The Ark” which sounds like a fascinating Sci-Fi series.

In todays episode I review another Shudder Original called Superhost
Nothing says Christmas like a killer robot Santa! Ryan and Amanda get into the spirit by reviewing this Shudder Original that may or may not be on the naughty list. Merry Christmas from The Final Girl... and Guy!
linktr.ee/CatchingUpOnCinema This December is “Satanic Santa” month at Catching Up On Cinema! All month long, we'll be reviewing Christmas movies featuring murderous, rampaging Santa Claus! This week, Kyle and Trevor review Joe Begos', Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022)! Released as a Shudder Original on the streaming service of the same name, Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022) is a holiday themed slasher film from director Joe Begos. Originally conceived as (another) remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984), Christmas Bloody Christmas, as it exists in its completed form, more closely resembles a remake of The Terminator (1984), solely due to the structure of its 3rd act, and inclusion of a tenacious, mechanical killer, rather than anything having to do with plot or execution. Possessed of a thin concept that is oddly reminiscent of Joe Dante's, Small Soldiers (1998), Christmas Bloody Christmas is a dirt simple, though unfortunately somewhat tedious slasher. Perhaps best presented as a 45 minute episode of Creepshow, rather than a feature length film, Christmas Bloody Christmas is unexpectedly talkie in its first half, featuring numerous overlong, scenes of bawdy, overlapping dialogue that are remarkably naturalistic in delivery and pacing, but utterly unwelcome in a film with a concept and aesthetic presentation such as this. Often a delight to look at, Christmas Bloody Christmas boasts fantastic set dressings and production design, featuring audacious and hyper-stylized lighting schemes that bathe each scene with gorgeous, or alternatively, hideous, splashes of color. Noisy, and maximalist in nature, Christmas Bloody Christmas betrays the promise of its aesthetics and rock stupid concept by failing to deliver in the execution of its kill sequences. Unexpectedly restrained in the guts and gore department, Christmas Bloody Christmas features no less than 3 instances of kills that are not just cut away from before the fluids start flowing, but unfairly teased as kills that have clear potential to deliver visceral thrills. At least one of the aforementioned kill-botches bears some evidence of perhaps being the result of a failed or incomplete practical effect, however this is just a guess from this reviewer. A flawed slasher that shows craft and verve in writing, lighting and performance, perhaps too much given the overly indulgent nature of its many dialogue sequences, Christmas Bloody Christmas is not a horror film without strengths, however for this reviewer, it is a film that needed many of its darlings killed, in favor of processing them into a leaner and more digestible package. As Winter death rattles into Spring and Summer licks its tasty chops eyeballing its oncoming vernal meal, so does the SHUDcast return with another ritualistic review. The boys put on their outdoor pants and go on a foraging mission to gather dried sticks and other detritus in order to properly discuss the SHUDDER Original, HELLBENDER. We discuss which season the show is in and how it probably lines up with COVID seasons, reminiscing on COVID season 1, and how the seafaring folk talked to us at Austin's bachelor party. 13:30ish - 49:00ish What we watched this week! Halloween Kills (again and again), Stand By Me, The Brood (or at least partially), Blade Runner 2049, Kubo and the Two Strings (with some enhancement), Coraline, Everything Everywhere All At Once (the first of many you'll hear about from us), Pig, The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man, The Lost City, Hellraiser, Hellraiser 2, Turning Red, Dark Shadows, and Yellowjackets.
