Everybody's favourite Edmonton Oilers whipping boy David Desharnais is everybody's favourite Edmonton Oiler tonight. Desharnais set up the game tieing goal and scored the winning goal in OT to lead Edmonton to victory over San Jose. David Staples and Bruce McCurdy discuss his excellent efforts, San Jose's "near" perfect regulation play, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl's breakout game, and blast Sportsnet for starting the game so late.
It was a thrilling regular season for Oilers fans, capped off with Connor McDavid scoring 100 points and the team earning 103. David Staples and Bruce McCurdy dig into Oscar Klefbom's great form, the struggles of David Desharnais, the Line of the Beast having another great game, Matt Benning vs Eric Gryba, and whether it would be have been better to face the Flames and not the Sharks in the first round.
Cam Talbot played his normal great game and Milan Lucic was a killer as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2. But issues abound. David Staples and Bruce McCurdy dig into Matt Benning's rough play, Patrick Maroon missing an open net, Benoit Pouliot and David Desharnais getting a line demotion and whether or not it's best for the Oilers to finish first or second in their division.
François Gagnon, David Desharnais, David Perron et Stéphane Leroux sont les invités de Martin Lemay.
Oilcast for March 7, 2017 with your host George Eliopoulos. We gave up a much needed two points against the New York Islanders, but I don’t think it was all negative. Today I’ll be discussing the Oilers' defence getting a little antsy, the growing issue of the PK, my new love David Desharnais and what it’s going to take to win down the stretch.
Hockey Hall of Fame writer Jim Matheson and Montreal Gazette sports columnist Stu Cowan join Edmonton Journal and Sun sports editor Craig Ellingson to talk about the Edmonton Oilers, the Montreal Canadiens, the NHL playoff picture in both the Western and Eastern Conferences, the recent trade between the two teams that saw centre David Desharnais come to Edmonton and defenceman Brandon Davidson head to Montreal, the on-going and forever present phenomenon of Canadiens fans (and their Toronto Maple Leafs counterparts) filling opponents rinks in Western Canada, and probably the most noteworthy player from the Edmonton area to ever don the Habs' Bleu, Blanc et Rouge: Joe Benoit. Never heard of him? Well, you should.
OilCast for March 4th 2017, hosted by George Eliopoulos. 4-3 win at home against the Detroit Red Wings. This episode I discuss the complete team effort, , David Desharnais’ first game in the Orange and Blue, the favourable schedule down the stretch, and try to figure out why Pete Chiarelli can’t or won’t pronounce names right.
David Desharnais, Oilers Forward. Kelly Hrudey, Sportsnet Hockey analyst.
Much like we did last week when we asked '20 Questions' about the Western Conference, we similarly move around the East in an attempt to gain more clarity about what the landscape looks like at this moment in time. "Will the Capitals rest their players during the stretch run?", "should the Hurricanes be full-blown sellers at the deadline?", "what's been the main difference for the Penguins under Mike Sullivan?", and "why does Michel Therrien have undying love for David Desharnais?" are examples of things we get around to answering. *Every episode of this podcast is available on iTunes, Soundcloud, and can also be streamed from our website. This show also takes a look at developing goaltending situations in Calgary and Anaheim. And finally, we share some of our own strategic fantasy tips for getting the most out of your lineup. Will Mikko Rantanen meet high expectations in year one? Has Radko Gudas metamorphosed into an offensive force? Can the league's best five-on-five goal-scoring team continue being that after losing their best player to injury? Too early for a holiday-related episode title? This brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast makes no apologies! This week's edition kicks off with injuries, where we pause to consider how the Montreal Canadiens put up a ten-spot without two of their top three centremen, as well as how anything good can happen in Arizona with a key component of their first line gone for a while. And yes, Martin Hanzal is healthy.. There's much more happening in outjuries, where we've got a Predator and Senator goal-scorers whose gamelogs aren't all that dissimilar to when they were injured, a reliable top-sixer getting his spot back in Washington, and a masked Red Wing who'll be looking to regain the pre-injury form that had eluded him for a long, long, long, long while. Speaking of goalies, weirdness continues to pervade keeper numbers and performances and tandems around the league, with a sudden extended rest for a legendary Ranger tendy, an apparent attempt at a tandem in Colorado, a turn away from a heretofore #1 in Winnipeg, and Cory Schneider doing his best Cam Ward impression. Cold streaks this week sweep through an entire Metropolitan squad, key components of an Atlantic team, a couple guys named Zach, and a usually reliable King. Hot streaks include a guy Brian called a snoozer last week, a guy Elan called a snoozer last week, a still kind of hopeless buy maybe not Cap, a Cap tease, as well as a less hopeless Cap, a Blue and an Oiler who find themselves this week's beneficiaries of their teams' usual line shuffling, a bunch of Islanders(!?), a former Isle, and two Penguins d-men who Brian will again tell you not to rush to pick up. Players featured on this episode include Alex Galchenyuk, Tomas Plekanec, Antti Raanta, Henrik Lundqvist, Max Domi, James Neal, Filip Forsberg, Viktor Arvidsson, TJ Oshie, Evgeni Kuznetsov, John Carlson, Bobby Ryan, Petr Mrazek, Jimmy Howard, Marcus Johansson, Radim Vrbata, Tobias Rieder, Anthony DeAngelo, Michael Stone, Mike Smith, Chet Pickard, Semyon Varlamov, Pekka Rinne, Michael Hutchinson, Connor Hellebuyck, Cory Schneider, Keith Kinkaid, Victor Rask, Derek Ryan, Jaccob Slavin, Max Pacioretty, Brendan Gallagher, Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu, Eric Staal, Zach Werenski Andrew Shaw, David Desharnais, Alex Radulov, Paul Byron, Philip Danault, Tyler Toffoli, Sam Gagner, Marian Gaborik, Jonathan Drouin, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Steve Mason, Michal Neuvirth, Robby Fabbri, John Tavares, Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, Frans Nielsen, Justin Schultz, Ian Cole, Drake Caggiula and more. Although Elan's wish for no injuries didn't come true, our wish for plenty of fantasy news to discuss and analyze on the 51st episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast has graciously been granted.About those injuries-- we've got freshly opened spots on depth charts all across the league, including starting goalies in New York and Ottawa, a 3rd-liner in Winnipeg, a power-play quarterback in St. Louis, and a top-six forward in Nashville.Another recurring theme over the last couple months also shows up again in this week's gamelogs: unlikely players getting substantial looks on their team's top lines. Elan and Brian break down recent minute and opportunity increases for players in Boston, Pittsburgh, Long Island, Anaheim, and Montreal. The show wraps up with a classic segment featuring Players of Note, including Yet Another Panther, a mostly forgotten Star, and a couple d-men continuing to make their names and reassure doubters.Players discussed on this episode include Cam Talbot, Henrik Lundqvist, Evander Kane, Kevin Shattenkirk, Alex Pietrangelo, Craig Anderson, Robin Lehner, Chris Butler, Jay Bouwmeester, Taylor Hall, Colin Wilson, Calle Jarnkrok, Tyson Barrie, Pekka Rinne, Ian Cole, Reilly Smith, Mark Arcobello, Beau Bennett, Anders Lee, David Desharnais, Tomas Plekanec, Ben Bishop, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Ales Hemsky, Brandon Pirri, Rickard Rakell, Roman Josi, and more.Download this episode on iTunes. If you enjoy the show, please support future episodes by becoming a patron of Keeping Karlsson.
