This week on the podcast, we're adding one of the most infamous games from the 2010s on to the Endless List: It's Mighty No. 9. This game developed by Comcept with the help of Inti Creates and led by Keiji Inafune tried to bring back the Mega Man style of action platform type games. It failed. Miserably. And we're here to talk about it. Where did it land on the Endless List? Find out on the podcast or check out the complete rankings (linked here).
It's another new episode of Make Me A Gamer! We're gonna be ending 2021 strong, and first up on the list is a deep dive episode! So sit back, pop open a cold one, and listen to the tale of Mighty No. 9. It's a doozy! We hope you enjoy! It's the return of MEGA MAN... sort of. MIGHTY NO. 9, from former Capcom legend Keiji Inafune, apes the style and gameplay of the Blue Bomber almost exactly, but something has gone missing during the game's famously tortured production. This week we're charting the game's early Kickstarter success and long road to release, and seeing if this game and it's army of child robots lives down to it's reputation. (raf)

How The Mighty Have Fallen: Keiji Inafune's hotly-anticipated, long-delayed, much-derided Mighty No. 9 has finally been released to much controversy. Dan and Andrew wade through the hot mess that some have called the "worst game launch ever" (it most likely isn't). Wham-Bam Explosions: Current James T. Kirk actor, Chris Pine, said in a recent interview with SFX magazine that Star Trek can't be cerebral in 2016. – A qué estamos jugando: Path to Thalamus, The Evil Within, Persona Q: Shadow of the labyrinth y Uncharted 4. – Despedida.

Show Notes: * Jon tells the sad tale of the Mighty No. 9 launch, which underwhelmed and under-delivered in more ways than thought possible * Cody shares his history backing video games on Kickstarter and why he doesn’t closely follow Kickstarter campaigns after he’s funded them (especially after the Mighty No. 9 launch going the way it did after so much hype) * Jon and Cody briefly discuss Exploding Kittens briefly, which is one of the most successful Kickstarter projects of all time * Somehow Cody gets on the topic of Tremors 5, a fifth movie in the Tremors film series that actually happened in 2015 * Cody refuses to let Jon change the subject, instead launching into a brief ranking of every Tremors film, which is relevant to roughly nobody * Life Stuff * Jon wishes himself and the hosts of Game/Life Balance Australia a Happy Father’s Day, then talks about how he ate ribs on Father’s Day like he does literally every year that he has ever recorded a podcast with Cody * In addition to patting himself on the back for being an awesome dad, Jon also tells yet another story of how his son is constantly trying to find ways of destroying himself, this time involving a hilarious habit with swimming pools * Cody saw Flight of the Conchords at Millennium Park, and literally refuses to believe that Jon has never heard of them, because that is a stupid thing for him to have never heard of * Jon received the most domestic male gift in history for Father’s Day * More Life Stuff * Cody explains his summer travel plans and what an airline means when it offers a “mystery deal,” which he actually did for the first time * The airline itinerary mystery deal Cody found on Kayak directed him to Vayama, which offered a full 100% refund if he canceled his transaction within one hour of booking his three flights… and it actually worked! * Naturally, Jon argues that Cody probably won’t get his money back, because he’s an awful person. The previous sentence can be read one of two ways, and either are probably accurate * In the end, Cody ended up booking his overseas flights on JustFly, which also had good customer service—so check it out! * Both Cody and Jon lament that they didn’t have a ton of adventures to recount on this episode, but preview an action-packed summer of podcasting coming soon * Cody tries to explain a very complicated but difficult to communicate joke between him and the hosts of Game/Life Balance Australia, which involves Costume Quest and gifting video games—leading, naturally, to another argument between him and Jon, whom he feels is just lying at this point (and please note that this sentence can also be read one of two ways) * Learn how to connect with us on the

Originally Broadcast 2013/03/29: A more recent example is Majora's Mask on 3DS. Did we even talk about it in this podcast? Listen to find out! Ever since Double Fine Adventure (a.k.a. Broken Age), Kickstarter has been the go-to place to fund games in genres long-thought dead (e.g. Adventure Games), by creators long thought dead (e.g. Al Lowe -- kidding! We love ya puddin'), or franchises long thought dead (e.g. the Mega Man-esque Migthy No. 9 by Keiji Inafune). Is this a good thing? And can it possibly last? Vinnk and Sean discuss their one-night-only Madison Underground live show, including the story of being accosted by a supposedly off-duty Marine while filming some footage for the show. It's a long story, and we totally tell it! We also talk about which Kickstarter games are the most interesting, which ones we've funnded and played, and whether or not having a Wii U stretch goal is an absolute necessity (well, Sean thinks so). We also tried out some "delicious" Pepsi-flavored Cheetos -- complete with video!
