We were all hanging at the Dabble House in Florida this weekend for a special episode of WATP. Opie Radio starts things off with an absolutely manic and immature stream from the basement of Gebhard's with the wildly untalented and obnoxious Ron the Waiter. Then we catch up on his morning stream where we learn that Opie Radio would be the best podcast in the Dabbleverse if he wanted it to be (if you want to know the truth). Trucker Andy and Jenny Jingles join us to find out that Opie is burning through all of his money. Lucy Tightbox and Vinnie Paulino join us to discuss JNO, a music producer who only wants to produce one song over and over again. Mike Morse and Anthony Zenhauser hop on the show to check in on Frenchie Hawna and try to figure out what's going on. Shuli joined us for the Kate Meaney Tapes season 2 segment that is only available at dabblecon.live. Matan Even had a wasted Andy Dick on his show and Jen helps break that down. And finally we finish things off a round of To Poke A Dabbler. After years of settling cases out of court, Mike Morse represented the parents of a college student who died at a friend's house when he took a high dose of “molly,” or MDMA, that he was told was Adderall. The young man's friends videotaped him and posted videos to Snapchat of him struggling under the effects of the drug, but they didn't call for help until after he died. Tearing up when the student's parents told him the story, Mike agreed to take the case. But he hadn't tried a case before a jury in 15 years, so he hired a jury consultant and coach and began listening to recordings, through Trial Lawyers University, of attorneys explaining how they won their cases.Listen as Mike describes how he picked a jury, tried the case, and secured $75 million. He also reflects on a different case in which he secured the release of his client who had been wrongfully convicted. It's hard to run a law firm. So much is asked of you, and you have only so much time to accomplish it all. Maybe you don't always know the answers, but you're afraid to show weakness. How do you delegate and trust people to get the job done right? J.L. King has the answers. J.L. King, II, is an experienced civil trial lawyer in Georgia. He primarily represents catastrophically injured victims and the families of individuals who have died as a result of negligence. Before he chose this focus, J.L. worked for one of the premier insurance defense firms in the southeastern United States. On this week's episode, Maria speaks with J.L. about his small-town upbringing, how you can be a good lawyer and a good marketer, being a good delegator, why things don't always have to be perfect, and the ins and outs of managing your staff. Key Takeaways You can't be the best at everything. Recognize your limitations. Even the most successful people have things they aren't good at. They accept it and learn where to put their focus to best benefit the company. There's no shame in asking for help. Consider part-time employees. Staffing can be highly stressful. Hiring, firing, and questions about overstaffing and understaffing can all be overwhelming. Consider hiring someone part-time who can fill a gap or jump between departments when needed. They can be a help at the most stressful moments. Delegate. Delegate. Delegate. Hire people that complement your weaknesses. Not good at marketing? Hire a marketing manager. Not good at writing? Hire a copywriter. Trust those people with their tasks, and don't micromanage. This kind of trust can take a lot of weight off your shoulders. Do you often worry if your fashion sense is appropriate for the workplace? Are you having trouble finding your one true passion? Have you ever had issues navigating the family business? If any of these questions speak to you, make sure to listen to this week's podcast. Taylor Dordick is a personal injury attorney at Dordick Law Firm in California. She is passionate about fighting for victims of abuse and recently received a groundbreaking $2.28 billion verdict in the Jane Doe v Fitzgerald sexual abuse case. On this week's episode, Maria speaks with Taylor about fashion in the workplace, working with her family, being a legacy, and finding her niche in fighting for victims of abuse. Key Takeaways Be smart about fashion. Yes, it is possible to dress appropriately for the workplace and still feel confident about your looks. Taylor teaches us that you don't have to shop high end to feel high end. Search and you can find great deals at places like Target, Nordstrom Rack, and Saks OFF Fifth. And remember, tailor, tailor, tailor. Don't squander your privilege. Take every opportunity and leg up that life gives you. Use it to do good, and don't throw it away. There are tons of people who would give anything to be in your position. Don't let them down. Find your niche. Sometimes, you have to work to find your calling because it's not immediately apparent. Are mass torts something you're interested in, but haven't had the time to learn the ins and outs of? Maybe you're already acquainted, but just need some advice on how to move forward. Either way you're going to come out of this podcast with everything you need to know about mass torts. As CEO of The Search Engine Guys (TSEG), Chris Massaro oversees the company's growth in its operations and sales, as well as managing key accounts for single-event and mass tort law firms. TSEG is a legal marketing company that has expert knowledge in mass tort advertising. On this week's episode, Maria sits down with Chris to discuss mass torts. What are they? How do you advertise? Why should you invest? How do you invest? How do you protect your money? And how do you avoid unscrupulous offers? They also discuss the unusual way Chris got into marketing and why social media hates lawyers. Key Takeaways Don't call out sick from Dave & Busters. If Chris Massaro had called in sick that day, he may have never found success in his current career path. You never know when fortune might strike, so try to take advantage of every opportunity presented. Most importantly, make sure to be honest about your hangover. Encourage your employees' success. Find joy in your employees' accomplishments. Think about how each business decision affects not only you, but also your staff. Closing that next lead means more money for the business, which allows you to pay higher salaries, which leads to an employee closing on their first home. Think twice before you decide to go home early and skip that call. Be smart about your investment. Mass torts can be profitable, but only with the right guidance. Beware of scams and people just trying to make a quick buck. Do your research, and make sure to vet the people you work with. Don't let yourself fall victim to the wrong person. Having tons of energy can be a great thing if you know how to put it to use. Say yes to new opportunities, make light of yourself on TikTok, buy a new Rolls-Royce, or even build your own private courthouse. How are these all related? Kevin Kennedy did them, and they all, in one way or another, led to the growth of a successful law firm. Kevin Kennedy is the founder of The Kennedy Law Firm in Clarksville, Tennessee. They are a Christian law firm that provides counsel for everything from personal injury to estate planning. His family has lived in Clarksville since just after the Revolutionary War, and he has recently surpassed 1.6 million followers on TikTok. On this week's episode, Maria sits down with Kev to discuss gaining a huge TikTok following, saying yes to opportunity, hiring A players, Elvis, and being on Oprah. If you listen long enough, you also may find out what it's like to be serenaded by Kevin. Key Takeaways Have a core value system. Kevin Kennedy lets his Christian values guide him in his everyday life. They are reflected in his personal and business decisions. Whether it's religion or your own personal values, have a touchstone you can go back to when you're struggling and need help. Don't say no. Should you say no to purchasing a Rolls-Royce? Probably not. Kevin Kennedy didn't, and that Rolls got him a case that covered his purchase in just ninety days. Maybe you don't need a Rolls-Royce, but try taking a chance on something that may not make sense at the time, because you never know what it may lead to down the road. Don't burn bridges. It's never a good idea to burn a bridge, no matter how good you think it will feel. Down the line, you may run into the person you collided with in a situation where they have all the cards. Be the bigger person, and look out for your long-term success. The secret to doing it all is having a strong team. If you want to grow your business, you have to empower them to take charge. A single person can only accomplish so much. Don't be afraid to let go. You may be surprised at what they can accomplish without you. Lawrence A. LeBrocq is a practicing attorney and managing partner at Garces, Grabler & LeBrocq. Lawrence has tried hundreds of personal injury cases that have resulted in several multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements, recovering more than $100 million on behalf of his 2,000+ clients over the course of his career. On this week's episode, Maria sits down with Lawrence to discuss why it's important to focus on company culture, how to deal with underperforming employees, and a few of his most memorable cases. Key Takeaways Use positive motivation. Having trouble getting your employees to learn a new software, speed up their workflow, or ask for Google reviews? Lawrence LeBrocq uses $100 bills to motivate his staff. Try to find what works best for you. Go all out for your clients. You may have a client who suffered a horrific accident that no amount of money can fix, but money can ease their pain. Putting in the extra effort can lead to a much bigger verdict. Use old things in new ways. Lawrence uses his podcast to give clients a rundown of what to expect when working with him. The secret to doing it all is having a strong team. If you want to grow your business, you have to empower them to take charge. A single person can only accomplish so much. Don't be afraid to let go. You may be surprised at what they can accomplish without you. “At the heart of it all, I'm a person who wants to empower others to take control of their lives and future.” Jennifer Gore-Cuthbert is the founding attorney and owner of Atlanta Personal Injury Law Group. She represents victims of vehicle collisions, drunk driving collisions, those injured in a slip-and-fall, and wrongful death cases. Jennifer's goals of becoming an attorney and opening her own practice were shaped by her own personal injury experiences. In college, she was seriously hurt in a car accident. After going through the arduous recovery process and having to navigate her own legal case, Jennifer decided that she wanted to dedicate her professional life to helping other victims get back on track. On this week's episode, Maria sits down with Jennifer to discuss building a large following on social media, teaching leadership skills, giving your team autonomy to make decisions and Jenn secret shops her own firm. Key Takeaways Watch out for secret shoppers. Always be on your A game. You never know who's calling. It could be your own boss. Batch your content. Film a bunch of content at once and schedule it on your social media calendar. You don't want to always be rushing to post at the last second. Learn to delegate. This is a classic rerun of my episode with Mike Morse. Mike Morse is a superstar personal injury attorney out of Detroit, and he runs one of the biggest and most profitable law firms in the state of Michigan, doing millions of dollars worth of business annually. So what does that have to do with small solo practitioners trying to grow their businesses?Mike has written a book called “Fireproof: A Five-Step Model to Take Your Law Firm from Unpredictable to Wildly Profitable,” and it outlines the system he used to take his successful law firm to stratospheric levels—but the principles are even more readily applied the smaller your firm is.You really should check out his YouTube channel as well. Not everyone, nor most solos, can afford to do the TV commercials that Mike is a master of, but there is a lot to learn regarding how to craft video marketing messages from watching his content.Get in touch with Mike Morse:Website: https://www.855mikewins.com/ Email: mike@855mikewins.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/mikemorselawfirm Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/855mikewins/ Book: Fireproof: A Five-Step Model to Take Your Law Firm from Unpredictable to Wildly ProfitableThank you to our sponsors!Ruby Receptionist - Virtual receptionist & live call services that will help you grow your office (and save money), one call at a time - to learn more, go to https://get.ruby.com/TLE or call 844.311.7829The Net Profit CFO - Ryan Kimler works with attorneys who want to enjoy higher net profits without working longer or harder.
