The great Dave Landau joins the show and we introduce him to Trisha Paytas. Somehow Dave has gone the last 14 years without ever getting exposed to this slob. There's a rumor that her former podcasting partner Colleen Ballinger aka Miranda Sings may have another documentary made about her inappropriate communications with underage fans. One of those underage fans who outed Colleen is Adam McIntyre who's reporting on the Ethan Klein vs. Denims copyright lawsuit. H3 took a big hit after the judge came out with a tentative ruling that could set a positive precedent for fair use. Aaron from Steel Toe had a major blow-up with his cohost Johnny. But don't worry, Aaron declares that he handled it perfectly and was even proud of himself for how he handled it. Kevin Brennan continues to fight a war that no one started against Adam Busch. Even KB's chat realizes he's lying and has no idea what he's talking about. KB's show failed because an HBO exec was fired for domestic abuse? Right. Sure. Part 2 of Stuttering John with Kirk Fox is even more spectacular as John cannot read the room and instead wants to ask him about celebrities he's had intercourse with. Opie gets triggered again by speculation about getting kicked out of Gebhard's and loses it on Kevin Brennan. Gregg is finding new and diabolical ways to keep Ron from giving out his Venmo and making money while Opie asks for donations through his new QR code. Megan and Annie join us for a round of “Is It Gay?” and “Opie or Burr.” We finish with Spotify comments, reviews, and your voicemails. Get ready to meet Carleigh Ferrante, a 30-something year old skeleton who gives out dating advice to people who apparently have no common sense, no self-esteem, and no dignity. She teaches losers how to flirt, what types of dates to go on, and even how to text. Finally, someone who can teach me how to text! Can there be some astrology mixed in? You betcha!! Lucy Tightbox joins the show to watch a fake interview with Billy Corgan on legendary LA radio station KROQ. Stuttering John gets cockblocked on Stephanie Miller's show by the guest's mom. But that doesn't stop him from asking embarrassing questions and using his children for LGBTQ clout. Opie had an amazing stream on Thursday morning that started with his depression over losing his only friend, then admitting to going back to therapy, and then addressing our show talking about him having a falling out with Matt at Gebhard's. He also brings on a special guest who is supposedly a longtime friend but really she's someone he definitely does not care about. We finish with Net News and your voicemails. A conversation with three men who recently traveled to Palestine to witness the state of Palestinian Christian communities living in Israel-occupied West Bank. What they experiences was horrific and hopeful. Horrific in the brutality of the young Israeli settler gangs and hopeful in the readiness of the Palestinian Christians to be accepted into a peaceful, co-existence with their Israeli neighbors. Their sojourn was organized by the Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center located in Jerusalem. Sabeel organizes "Witness Visits" to Israel and Palestine; participants experience life under occupation in the West Bank firsthand, engage with Palestinian Christians and other activists, and then share their experiences in order to motivate positive change. This BCR program was recorded at Gebhard's Beer Culture Bar.Alan Winson -- Hostbarcrawlradio@gmail.com Hosted on Acast.

We're celebrating Jocktober by revisiting Mojo in the Morning, a show that airs in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Toledo. Bianca is the newest member of the show and she might be super hot! Oh wait… nope, we checked her Instagram. Either way, she has an unpleasant conversation with a coworker and that becomes a call-in segment. Trucker Andy joins the show to reveal that their listeners are cucks and that Mojo has the worst take ever on the NBA gambling scandal. Ray DeVito has a drunk cokehead on his show and talks to her like she's speaking coherently. Erock sent in an example of radio's dystopian future, the Fred Show's fake “waiting by the phone” segment, and a pre-recorded NYC morning show. Opie is back at Gebhard's with Ron the Waiter and they have the worst possible takes on ICE raids and the NBA gambling scandal. Kevin Brennan failed miserably trying to sabotage Stuttering John's standup show with Geno and Keanu in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Speaking of StutJo, he was wasted on Friday night with guest Ava Raiza who admits she visited his trans son's house. What?? We end with Net News and your voicemails. We're joined by Drew Lane and Mike Wolters at the top of the show to discuss Howard Stern's return and announcement that nothing has changed. Wow, Opie got that completely wrong (shocker). Opie is bragging about his math skills and being a celebrity in college. But the big reveal is that Opie is embarrassed about the mattress that was sent to Gebhard's by a WATP fan for Ron the Waiter. Will Ron ever get to bring that thing home? Stuttering John reveals more about his lonely life of day drinking and bothering people. He brings on Clearwater Chad and when CWC sticks up for himself, John has no choice but to remove him from the stream so that John can argue with a guy who isn't there. Adam breaks down the top 5 best and worst things about Chrissie Mayr's Content Hotel. Then we discuss all the heat that Mersh is getting as he victory laps all over the internet. Aaron Imholte on Steel Toe criticized how I run my live show and agreed with Keanu's take. Of course Aaron and Keanu are two people who really know how to put on a live event (that was sarcasm). Ross Barkan's newest novel “Glass Century” is a panoramic story of New York City from our crime-ridden 70s. through the tragedy of 9/11 to the COVID lockdowns. The story focuses on Mona Glass a photojournalist in love with tennis and a married man. For this BCR podcast, we are not so interested in Mona Glass as the character in a novel but as a lens into the experiences of an American journalist and novelist and the author of “Glass Century” – Ross Barkan. For Bar Crawl Radio podcast. we talk to people doing positive work for their community, recording in neighborhood bars. We were all hanging at the Dabble House in Florida this weekend for a special episode of WATP. Opie Radio starts things off with an absolutely manic and immature stream from the basement of Gebhard's with the wildly untalented and obnoxious Ron the Waiter. Then we catch up on his morning stream where we learn that Opie Radio would be the best podcast in the Dabbleverse if he wanted it to be (if you want to know the truth). Trucker Andy and Jenny Jingles join us to find out that Opie is burning through all of his money. Lucy Tightbox and Vinnie Paulino join us to discuss JNO, a music producer who only wants to produce one song over and over again. Mike Morse and Anthony Zenhauser hop on the show to check in on Frenchie Hawna and try to figure out what's going on. Shuli joined us for the Kate Meaney Tapes season 2 segment that is only available at dabblecon.live. Matan Even had a wasted Andy Dick on his show and Jen helps break that down. We start things off with the trials and tribulations of the Locked Cuck. This is a man who gets punished for making cumsies when he's not supposed to. His girlfriend doesn't even let him clean up after her bull finishes. Jodie B. from the Po'Boys Podcast joins us to discuss the difference between punishments and funishments. Scorch is celebrating his one year anniversary for some reason but also has a huge announcement about his Dive Bar Locator business. Anthony Cumia superchatted Kevin Brennan and KB lost his mind over it, trying to find an angle where Ant's new radio gig isn't a good thing. We check in on Opie's talk show from Gebhard's basement where Ron the Waiter is shot out of a cannon and Matt is the worst sidekick ever. Once again -- recording on the porch of Gebhard's Beer Culture Bar located in Manhattan's Upper West Side -- BCR hosts Rebecca McKean and Alan Winson talk with the four composers and performers and leaders of Composer's Concordance about "contemporary [classic] music." This music movement has been described by the New York Times as “unpredictable … irreverent …and ingenious.” For over four decades Composer's Concordance has presented concerts in all sorts of New York City area venues of inventive experimental music.Gene Pritsker -- Milica Paranosic – Peter Jarvis – and Seth Boustead -- talk about the history of the organization, their compositions and the ongoing joy of breaking contemporary boundaries of what is considered artful music in an unstable era.For our regular listeners if you would like a link to complete versions of the music played in this program -- make a request to email barcrawlradio.comHINT: This program is best heard with a set of good headphones. Are you ready to get motivated and inspired? It doesn't matter because Chrissy Salem is going to get in your face and help you because he knows you don't have any money, you're fat, and you aren't getting laid. And what can you do to fix those things? That's the part that Chrissy never explains. Lucy Tightbox joins us to reveal Chrissy's grosser and dumber personality, Jessie Pump. Brother Ted sent in a great Stuttering John parody song and Erock found an afternoon drive DJ for the cringe of the week. Opie is back with his friends at Gebhard's and he has a pretty sweet studio set up. There is literally no difference between what Opie is doing and what Scorch is doing. Pat Dixon had Anthony Cumia on to discuss Steel Toe and Chad Zumock. Speaking of Steel Toe, he's super excited that Nick Rekieta had a setback in his felony legal case. But, at the same time, he's not getting as much money towards the goal as he did last week, so he's also stressed out. I think Aaron is bipolar. And finally Annie joins us as we try to poke a dabbler, tease the next episode, open up some gifts from listeners, read a recent review and check out your voicemails. This week we're getting caught up on the extremely famous YouTuber, idubbbz aka Ian Kane Jomha. This guy was an edgelord whose outrageous videos got him millions of viewers. Now that he's in his mid 30s, he's doing a podcast with his wife where the two of them talk about nonsense and prove how dumb they are. Anisa at one point schools her husband on who “invented” electricity. Andy Q Public and Lucy Tightbox both join the show to school us on idubbbz's history and Anisa's OnlyFans page. After a cringe of the week and the funniest thing Scorch has ever said, we check in on Tom Myers' latest batch of “jokes.” He seems to be getting worse at this. Friday night football games in the fall are a Pennsylvania tradition but more games are being scheduled on Thursday nights or Saturday afternoons because there aren't enough officials. For high school football, seven officials on the field are what's ideal, but many times five are calling the games. There's a shortage of referees or officials in other sports too like lacrosse, soccer and field hockey. On The Spark Monday was Patrick Gebhart, Assistant Executive Director of Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association who said,"The, poor treatment of officials nationally that has been ranked as the number one reason that officials retire and don't come back, after a few years, if we get an official to their third year, we feel pretty strongly that they'll continue to have a great career. But poor treatment by coaches and spectators has been the number one reason across the country, including Pennsylvania, that officials, retire." Gebhard said athletic directors are making a greater effort to control coach and fan behavior toward officials. Gebhard indicated there are other reasons there aren't as many people willing to become officials or are leaving,"Back in 2015, the state legislature began to require officials to have clearances. They cost approximately $60 for the three clearances. They're good for five years. Well, when it came to the renewal program, we lost the officials from 2015 because they didn't want to go through the process. 2021 they had to renew. Many officials felt the same way. I don't want to go through that again. I don't want to pay the $60 even though it's mandated by the state legislature. I think many officials felt they didn't want to go through that. And as everyone remembers, in 2020, COVID hit and many officials dropped just because they might have had an underlying illness or just didn't want to go through wearing a mask while they officiate. So we did lose officials for those two reasons." Gebhard said officials or associations representing officials negotiate pay rates with schools. What's being done to recruit new officials? Gebhard described several marketing and advertising campaigns, including in schools and at championship events. Younger people are becoming officials through a junior officiating program where they officiate middle school grade athletic contests. If you are interested in becoming an official or have questions, go to the PIAA website here. Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
For this BCR program, we talked about that age-old American tradition – book burning – or more precisely – thought control. Our guests were two brave librarians – practicing a profession that is at the core of any effective democracy. Emily Drabinski heads-up the American Library Association [ALA] and Lauren Comito leads Urban Librarians Unite [ULU]. According to ALA findings efforts to ban books in this country are growing at a high rate and the groups engaged in this activity probably do not have children. Librarians and authors fight back, but it is an exhausting struggle. Lauren Comito talked about how the ULU keeps parents and children and the performers safe at Drag Story Hour -- popular among parents -- but potentially dangerous as groups -- such as The Proud Boys -- protest violently near and in our libraries. This conversation was recorded at Gebhard's Beer Culture Bar.Alan Winson -- barcrawlradio@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. Playlist Track Time Start Time Opening and Introduction (Thom Holmes) 11:57 00:00 1. Herbie Hancock, Herbie Hancock Demonstrates The Rhodes Piano (1973 Rhodes). A terrific flexi-disc produced by Rhodes and narrated by Hancock who tells an interesting story about his first encounter with the instrument on a Miles Davis session and then he walks the keyboard through a series of effects. He speaks with the authority of a proud electronics tinkerer who understands the nuances that make this instrument so beloved by jazz musicians. This flexi-disc was originally delivered in the November 8, 1973 issue of Down Beat magazine. I provide both sides of the disc, in entirety. Tunes included during the demonstration include parts of Watermelon Man, Maiden Voyage, and The Spook. Soloist, Rhodes Electric Piano, Voice, Herbie Hancock. I thought it would be wisest to lead off this podcast with an overview of the Rhodes even though it is out of chronological sequence, being from 1973. We then go back a few years to hear tracks in proper time order. 12:48 11:57 2. The Don Ellis Orchestra, “Open Beauty” from Electric Bath (1967 Columbia). In today's episode,Tara chats once again with her cousin Lisa Gebhard and is put in the hot seat to answer common questions about singing! Enjoy this episode part 2 as a follow up to their first time in February 2021. Here are some of the questions and topics we deal with: Why do some singers sound so different as their voice ages? Why does the pitch change or the tone and timbre of the sound? Why does it sound as if singers slide into notes or are flat? What makes the uniqueness of a singer's style? What makes for a healthy and natural sound in a voice? What are some basic things that happen in a voice lesson? What things do I focus on when I teach a lesson? How do I start with a student? (The monotone singing episode is Episode 7) Why can't we sing on an inhale? We sing on exhalation but it seems impossible to sustain pitch when you are taking in air! Please reach out to me for teaching. This BCR conversation may seem complex but its also simple – and – will possibly end human existence. If your physician can access all of your medical records, she will do a better job. And if generative AI knows all about the health of every human -- what then?We talked with two experts developing the power of Artificial Intelligence to keep us healthy. Dr. Mark Braunstein is the guru of FHIR -- not a misspelling -- an acronym for Fast Healthcare interoperability Resources – a technology helping physicians to access everything about our medical history and condition, easy and fast. Mark is a professor at the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech and a former health Informatics entrepreneur – and a visiting scientist at the eHealth Research Centre in Brisbane, Australia.Vince Hartman is the co-founder and CEO of Abstractive Health, a new company that is reducing physician burnout through the power of generative AI. Mr. Hartman has over a decade of experience in product management and software engineering in the healthcare field. There is a lot more to Vince's resum´e -- but it includes so many technical abbreviations I dare not go there. And visiting BCR as we recorded on the porch of Gebhard's Beer Culture Bar was Peter Frishauf creator of Medscape and godfather of Osmosis.Alan WinsonCONTACT: barcrawlradio@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. Tony Gebhard breaks barriers every day as a musician, podcaster and producer. But he also joined us from the frigid wilderness of Alaska, so we had to get an ice reference in! Join Lizzy and Shane (yes, we give Shane a mic this month) to celebrate our third anniversary by chatting with Tony about his many talents and activities. Plus, hear some more highlights from our division meeting at convention, when Shane took the mic around the room to hear what people were thinking. It's an episode worthy of our "podcastiversary!"
We are looking forward to sharing a conversation about a great American -- Eleanor Roosevelt. Shannon McKenna Schmidt has focused her literary work on travel. She has written for National Geograpic, Traveler, Nashville Public Television and Arrive magazine – and has appeared on Morning Joe and The Travel Show with Arthur and Pauline Frommer. We spoke to Ms. Schmidt about her most recent book “The First Lady of World War II: Eleanor Roosevelt's Daring Journey to the Frontlines and Back.” American and architectural historian Deborah Gardner has worked with the Municipal Arts Society for landmark preservation and has written articles and books on the Roosevelts of New York. Ms Gardner has curated exhibitions at the Roosevelt House on NYC's East Side, including one featuring Eleanor Roosevelt's work with the United Nations to create the “Declaration of Human Rights.”This podcast was recorded on the porch of Gebhard's Beer Culture Bar.Alan WinsonCONTACT: barcrawlradio@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. Recently – David Brooks of the New York Times – wrote about the suicide of his close friend—Pete—and the feelings that followed. Becky and I spoke with the music-eclectic Gene Pritsker at Gebhard's Beer Culture Bar a couple of days after his Sound Liberation Band deconstructed Beethoven at Birdland Jazz Club. It was a musical brainstorm called – “Ludwig's Night out” – Beethoven is on a bar crawl while Sonata No. 4 (for violin & piano) is echoing in his brain. Several of the pieces created by Pritsker and Composer Concordance regulars are included in this edit.A bit on Gene Pritsker: He is primarily a composer – also --a rapper – DJ – guitarist –a coordinator of music concerts – teacher – and at one time an actor. As of 2023 he had created over 900 compositions – including, chamber operas – orchestral and chamber works – electro-acoustic music – songs for hip hop and rock ensembles – with accents from many cultures - performed world wide. Gene is the co-director of Composers Concordance with Dan Cooper. We last spoke with the musician at the bar for BCR #38 -- April 2019. It was great catching up with Gene who has been quite busy during the pandemic; for instance, he recorded the sound track for the new "Matrix Resurrections" at Abbey Road Studios and produced a record while in Berlin.
