In today's Daily Fix: It finally happened: Grand Theft Auto 5 is on Switch. Well, not really, but it's proof that it can be done. Modders took the game's source code and got it running on the Nintendo Switch. It doesn't run well, but maybe if Rockstar put some resources behind an official port, it probably maybe sort of can be done. In other news, an EA exec is mad at Stellar Blade—not over the game itself, but that Stellar Blade is a pretty violent game, and somehow that passed the Japanese ratings board, but Dead Space didn't. Capcom is seemingly at "war" with modders. The video game company is using a new DRM package to seemingly make modding much more difficult for games such as Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil. As a result, gamers are downvoting affected games to oblivion on Steam. This move appears to be part of Capcom's broader strategy to combat modding, which they have previously expressed concerns about, particularly regarding mods that are deemed offensive or could damage the company's reputation. The controversy began when Capcom issued an unannounced update to the 2013 game "Resident Evil Revelations" on Steam. Gamers quickly discovered that this update included the Enigma Protector DRM, which is designed to prevent illegal copying, hacking, and modification of game files. However, this DRM implementation led to several issues, including frame rate drops, random crashes, and broken graphical options, negatively impacting the game's performance and playability. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Grand Theft Auto maker Rockstar Games, has filed a lawsuit against the modders who reverse engineered Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City. As spotted by Rockstar Intel, the lawsuit claims the mod team deliberately "sought unlawfully to copy, adapt, and distribute to the public infringing source code for two classic GTA titles." It adds that both projects, better known as 're3' and 'reVC,' are evidence of copyright infringement as they enable players to install and run GTA III and Vice City on multiple platforms, including those on which they never saw an official release, and feature unofficial enhancements. In today's Daily Fix, CD Projekt have hired a few prominent Cyberpunk 2077 modders to work on "various projects related to the Cyberpunk 2077 backend and the game's modding support." Cyberpunk has gotten some significant updates and patches since it's much-maligned launch last year. If you somehow forgot, the game was in such a bad way on the PlayStation side, that Sony pulled the game from the PS Store for 6 months. The console version of the game has largely improved since then, and the PC version remains the best way to experience it (provided you have the right rig), but this news that modders are working on the game in an official capacity is welcoming. Here's to hoping that CDPR is listening to what fans want in the game and are working toward more active engagement with the community. In other news, David Brevik, the game designer who basically co-created the Diablo franchise, has no plans to play the upcoming Diablo 2: Resurrected. The game is a remaster of Brevik's Diablo 2, but while you'd think the original designer would be curious how a remaster of his game would look and play, Brevik is staying far away from Diablo and Blizzard Entertainment. Blizzard is currently mired in a lawsuit filed by the State of California, alleging sexual harassment and other violations at the Blizzard workplace. Many other stories from current and former employees have since surfaced, leading to a walkout demonstration by employees and many other resignations. And in more lighthearted news, Twitter user Siberian_644 used a Google Algorithm to recreate Street Fighter characters in a more photo realistic manner...and they look...great? Modders in the PC Mass Effect community are on a mission to restore cut content to the recently released Legendary Edition of BioWare's trilogy. Using unearthed files, the community is looking to restore romances, quests, and planets that BioWare cut during production.

The video gaming world is full of digital geniuses, but this isn't limited to those designing the games. The Modders are an international community of gamers reengineering the code and backend of video games to alter the in-game universe. Many do it for fun, some for prestige, but others are more politically driven. Featuring: Karl Munstedt - Digital Artist and Technologist, Creator of Grand Theft Homo. Contextualisation narrative de notre objet d’analyse: Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist (Crows Crows Crows, 2015) (9:42): Cartographie des aspects théoriques de la parodie en référence à la thèse de doctorat de Dr. Trépanier-Jobin. Il est d’abord question de poser une définition opératoire de la parodie et de ses principaux procédés. Cette définition est ensuite contrastée avec une forme connexe: la satire. Cette précision amène dans la discussion le thème des cibles de la parodie avant de migrer vers l’enjeu des fonctions et des dimensions de cette dernière. (38:53): Analyse détaillée de Dr. Langeskov découpée selon quatre cibles parodiques dans la mire de l’oeuvre étudiée. Cible #1: Critique régénératrice des mécaniques sclérosées et des promesses d’aventure épique des jeux vidéo AAA.
