I can't believe it's here----Episode 200! I'm thrilled to have made it this far in my journey and to have so many of you along with me. Podcasting has made me more confident as a person and a speaker, and I'm thankful for the ways I've grown on this path. Today's topic is one I'm very passionate about, and you've heard it mentioned many times on the show. We're discussing what a clinician needs to have in place before scaling to multiple income streams.Nicole Liloia, LCSW, practices in New Jersey. She's someone whose advice I trust regarding creating multiple income streams, which is becoming more and more common for those in private practice. We don't often think about the groundwork that needs to be laid before we take that step, but systems and processes must be in place for things to flow smoothly. Each income stream brings its own level of stress, which must be managed. In today's conversation, we're discussing the biggest advantages to creating additional income streams, things to be aware of, and the most important things to have in place before branching out.

Nicole got her Masters in Social Work from Columbia University, loves Taco Tuesdays and Apothic wine.   Nicole talks about her experience living on a small salary in the Big Apple and how that contributes to burnout, her love for travel and how that inspired her to bust through the limiting ideas of running her own business, affiliate marketing and of course,  Dawson’s Creek (that’s why you’re here, isn’t it?)! We discussed how we can often suffer from burnout but call it laziness and be ruthlessly hard on ourselves and how it actually takes time to recover, it’s not a flip of a switch for anyone. Stay till the end, because Nicole also shares some easy tips on affiliate marketing and how you can get started today, even if you have a job or don’t have a business. Plus, ways you can start saving on autopilot and guarantee a more secure future for yourself!   I truly enjoyed speaking with Nicole and love that she actually lives so close to me and both of us would love to know what resonated the most with you from today’s episode and would you like to listen to an episode dedicated to finances and burnout? Welcome to A Counselors Journey To Private Practice. I'm your host, Juan.Nicole Liloia has a rich business background aimed to help professionals move forward in their business ventures. Nicole uses her skills and knowledge to help clinicians and working professionals to identify ways to create passive income. She has a Masters in Social Work, has been on Forbes, Huffington Post, and more. In the podcast, Nicole shares her professional experience and insights so that counselors and working professionals can use the skills and knowledge they have in creative ways.Creative ways to start the process of adding additional sources of income: Identify ways to recycle your skills. For example, if you are a counselor that helps anxious kids. This can give you an edge to creating tools as a board game that helps kids navigate anxiety. Each stage of the board game can have a mixture of education and coping skills.  Course creation. Have you thought about creating a course that mirrors what you are doing in the face to face setting? Let's take the example of a counselor that helps adults with anger. The course can be an exact replica that connects to those who are not ready for face to face support and need a different style of aid that is still beneficial. Start an email list focused on those that you serve. An email list is a beautiful platform that helps you communicate with those that you serve. I like using my email list as a direct source of keeping people updated. Just like every week those that subscribe to this podcast receive an update of the new episode, the email list can serve in a similar way.Creating a list of ideas for multiple streams of income. The list can include so many unique and creative avenues. Check out Building Multiple Streams of Income In Private Practice.Learn how to reach new clients so that you can build a consistent income. This process takes place through the creation of building structures and systems that are purposeful. Versus creating a system with the hope that it will work well and build an income. After all, creating a business is very different than taking on a hobby. The process of income stream development often works better when professionals, such as counselors, are able to focus on what they are currently doing versus reinventing the wheel. During the podcast, Nicole shares the importance of recycling information. Before I jump into the intro for this episode, I wanted to share something that’s been brewing within me for a while. When I began podcasting, I wanted to focus on talk therapy topics and issues yet I’m also really passionate about another topic.  And that is helping women live their best lives as they move into mid life. You may or may not know that when I hit 40, that’s when I made the decision to start living my life differently. So for the past 7 years i’ve worked to live more authentically and congruentally  And now I want to start bringing this information to the podcast! I’m lining up guests that will not only inspire you to see mid life differently but will also bring you the know how to do so. I’m unsure yet if I will start a whole new podcast or rebrand this one. Podcasts are a lot of work and it’s just me right now behind the scenes (well except for my audio engineer and editor, Laura and my website developer, Michael) so creating and producing 2 separate podcasts feels overwhelming yet also at the same time it feels possible. Right now I’m just hanging out in the land of possibilities. I hope you stay tuned to see and hear the upcoming shifts in my podcast world! Ok so let me tell you about this week’s episode! I’m talking with Nicole Liloia. She's a Business Coach & Strategist, who works with women entrepreneurs to help take charge of their business, money, and life so they can achieve bigger profits and even bigger impact. She knows that running a business can get complicated when you’re doing it on your own, but she’s here to help you simplify things so you can reach your goals faster without burning out. If you’re anything like me, you may doubt yourself and what you’re doing from time to time but Nicole knows you were made for this and she’s excited to help you expand to the next level of your journey. And in this episode she gives tips and advice on how to go from idea to implementation!  She talks all about developing relationships, creating email lists, building your audience, group coaching, online courses, and much more. I learned so much from our talk and hope you do too!  Grab Nicole’s Multiple Income Stream Guide for Therapists: 10 Ways to Make More Money here: nicoleliloia.com/lisa Learn more about her: https://nicoleliloia.com/ This episode is brought to you by my favorite activewear line, Zyia Active.  Want to be more comfortable while sitting on the couch? Nicole Liloia joins the show and talks about building bigger practices the right way. The first step in attracting more clients is overcoming our limiting mindsets. The next step is building three key relationships – community, referrals, and transactional. Stay tuned to hear how to why these relationships are so important and how to create them.   Meet Nicole Liloia Nicole Liloia is a business strategist who helps women entrepreneurs build bigger businesses and create consistent income growth. She loves helping them create multiple income streams that allow them the freedom to work less while still making more money. Nicole's first business was a counseling private practice but she quickly added in multiple income streams so that she could travel more while still running her business. She got her Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and has contributed to Forbes, Huffington Post, Mind Body Green, and more. Nicole always says yes to tacos and loves Apothic wine. You can find her online at www.nicoleliloia.com and download her free tool, the Consistent Income Generator so that you can create a personalized plan to have consistent income growth in your own business at nicoleliloia.com/consistentincome. Freedom and Flexibility Nicole's business is online, when she goes on vacation, she can bring her work with her and stay extra long. Working online also allows for more time with kids or more time to dedicate to your hobbies. Look at what motivates you outside of work and think about how you can get more time doing what you love. Think about the lifestyle that you want for yourself and create or alter your practice so it will best fulfill your needs. Mindset Blocks Nicole always felt like there wasn't enough out there for her. There were still other people who had what she wanted. Therefore, Nicole wouldn't be able to do it herself. Nicole also thought that if she went on vacation, then her business would fail while she was gone. We are all subject to imposture syndrome – assuming we are not qualified enough for our dreams.  The key to building a more prominent practice is building healthy relationships. However, if you have a scarcity mindset, then you will be unable to create healthy relationships. Be open to putting yourself out there and be open to the possibilities that come with being seen and building mutual relationships. In the mental health space, there is always room for more people. Just because someone has a successful practice, doesn't mean you can't do it as well – it just means there is a path for you to be successful too. Building Successful Relationships  There are three key relationships you need to build to have a successful private practice. Community. Your ideal clients and the people that you want to work with. Make sure you are building a large community – you want to nurture a broad audience so when your clients leave you to have more people to pull from. Show up, create content, and get in front of an audience. Be active on Facebook, write blog content, and utilize mailing lists. Referral Relationships. Build a relationship 1:1 with someone who has a similar audience that you do. You can share each other's content and even refer to each other when necessary. Reach out to someone and ask about their needs – how can you help their audience? Develop long-term relationships that will benefit your business. Think about how you would want someone to approach you for that relationship.  Transactional Relationships. A transactional relationship is someone that shares a complementary audience with you. Nicole pitched herself to The Practice of Therapy Podcast. She wanted to know if there was anything she can do for the podcast. Nicole wasn't asking for clients; she wanted to know how she could be helpful to Gordon's audience. This relationship is a community builder. To be successful in any business, you need to be known, liked, and trusted. Be genuine with what you do. Nicole is a business strategist who helps women entrepreneurs scale their businesses and create consistent income growth. Nicole's first business was a counseling private practice but she quickly added in multiple income streams so that she could travel more while still running her business. Nicole has contributed to Forbes, Huffington Post, Mind Body Green, and more.   Show Notes "Ninety nine percent of the time it's not urgent and to create a culture where you are constantly plugged in and expected to be always-on is to create a culture of burnout." --Arianna Huffington   If we follow the entrepreneurial hype then we will be all about the grind. But is this really healthy? Can we scale without the grind and avoid burnout? Do we have to neglect our need for self-care to move our businesses forward? Nicole is all for scale without the almost inevitable ‘pop-down/pop-dung' (this is a Jamaican term for being burnout).   What's your style for change? Here is a snippet of what she shared on this episode of the podcast: “Figure out your style for changing things you are going to have to change what you're doing if you want a bigger business, right? Because it's not just going to happen on its own. But find out what your style is for changing things, do you adapt to change quickly? Or do you process it more slowly and and just allow yourself to work out the change that way. So just for example, for me, I process change more slowly. So I cannot go from zero to 100% doing something different overnight. I have to gradually increase it over time. So maybe starting out 20% then 30%, then 50% right then 75%. So as you're making these changes as you're starting to batch don't feel like you need to batch everything overnight. Just start with a couple of tasks. Start with one task batching it thoroughly. Start to see how it feels and start to develop the habit.”   ----   Hot Point: Figure out your style for changing things. You are going to have to change things if you want a bigger business, it won't happen on its own.    Please share it with a friend. Podcasting has made me more confident as a person and a speaker, and I’m thankful for the ways I’ve grown on this path. Today’s topic is one I’m very passionate about, and you’ve heard it mentioned many times on the show. We’re discussing what a clinician needs to have in place before scaling to multiple income streams. Nicole Liloia, LCSW, practices in New Jersey. She’s someone whose advice I trust regarding creating multiple income streams, which is becoming more and more common for those in private practice. We don’t often think about the groundwork that needs to be laid before we take that step, but systems and processes must be in place for things to flow smoothly. Each income stream brings its own level of stress, which must be managed. In today’s conversation, we’re discussing the biggest advantages to creating additional income streams, things to be aware of, and the most important things to have in place before branching out. “I think a lot of times part of the reason we’re able to self-sabotage so easily is we really don’t own our goals. We don’t really own that picture of what we want our life to look like. We kind of keep it vague. As a result, we can’t really create that process to make changes because we don’t give ourselves any sort of timeline or specific picture of what we’re working towards.” This week’s episode of Women In-Depth we speak with Nicole Liloia, Business Coach and Strategist enlightening us on the career, business and life burnout so many women deal with on a constant basis. We have unknowingly become experts at sabotaging ourselves; whether in our careers, or personal lives. We will discuss several ways we sabotage, how to notice it and what to do in response to create a richer and more fulfilled life. Nicole Liloia earned her Master’s in Social Work at Columbia University before beginning a career in the non-profit sector. Nicole is both a life coach and a trained therapist. Now her passions are helping women entrepreneurs make more money and achieve their goals. Nicole began this path after a volunteer trip to Venezuela after suffering from burnout in her 9-5. Upon coming home Nicole began working at various part-time jobs and ended up starting her own practice only to fall back into the rigid 9-5 lifestyle she was trying to escape. She realized her own self-sabotage with this repetition and decided that she wanted to help other women entrepreneurs stop wasting time and start making more money. When Nicole is not busy helping her clients end their self-sabotaging ways she enjoys entrepreneurship, making women wealthier, Apothic Wines, and a good Taco Tuesday! Who is Nicole? Nicole Liloia provides strategy and mentorship to women entrepreneurs who want to scale their business and income through multiple income streams. After suffering severe burnout in the non-profit world and refusing to ever return to a 9-5, she took time to travel and volunteer in South America. She started her first business in 2013 and has been helping women stop wasting time and start making more money since then. Nicole got her master's in Social Work at Columbia University and has written for Forbes, Huffington Post, and MindBodyGreen. She's obsessed with entrepreneurship, women becoming wealthy, Apothic wine, and never misses a Taco Tuesday. A former city girl (NYC to be exact), she knows what it’s like to live a hectic, go-go-go lifestyle and feel like you’re not truly alive. When you feel “busy” all the time, you can’t really enjoy life. So, she's made her mission to help women like you slow down, reclaim their lives and fill them up with things that truly matter. Quotes from Nicole On Delegating: I think a lot of women really struggle trying to take too much on and feel like they need to learn how to do everything if they have a business. And as a result, they get really stuck and they can't grow. And they honestly get very overwhelmed and that's where the burnout comes in. Because there are so many things in my business that I love but there are so many things in my business that I don't love either and I'm not good at and I don't think I need to become good at. There are people who are much better at it than me and I don't need to be the best in all areas (8:04).  On Goal Chunking: I have a very unique strategy and I actually use this with my clients as well as with my masterminds and programs. It works really well. I get very clear on the goals. I start with goal chunking. So I have a big goal for the year. Usually a big income goal. And then I chunk it down by the different programs and services I want to sell and work on throughout the year, and then based on that I have an overall focus for each month. So maybe it's new client sign-ups, maybe it's new list growth because I'm working on visibility and things like that. I get motivated by numbers so I do it that way. And then I use the overall smaller monthly goal to create my 3-5 most important action tasks for the week. So those are the things that I know that are gonna help me hit my goal and help my business grow, so I make sure to make those a priority at the start of the week. (14:01) #1 Biggest Takeaway Do the stuff that scares you. Do the tasks that are at constantly at the bottom of your 'to do' list that you're writing over and over again. We really dive how women can support fellow women to leave the comfort zone, the problems with automatic thinking and going after things when you want them, not just when you need them. Nicole shares great tips on how to set goals, we dive into money stories and what happens when we give ourselves permission to go big. If you struggle with setting goals, are sick of comparing yourself to others or you know it's time to play big and get out of your comfort zone but find the idea of it terrifying, this episode is for you! Nicole has written for publications like Forbes, Huffington Post and more. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. Episode Spotlights: Nicole used to have a 9 to 5 job with a nonprofit organization, but she went to graduate school and had a ton of student loans She was working as a social worker and loved it, but she wasn’t making the money that she needed (2:00) To give herself more flexibility, Nicole decided to create her own office – but soon found that she recreated the 9 to 5 that she didn’t like (4:40) Nicole then found herself recreating 1 - 1 services, which have limits because of time constraints, she wanted something more Nicole found herself in coaching because it was flexible and she was still helping people solve their problems She was noticing that, as a service based entrepreneur, she was getting burnt out so easily (9:00) That is when she decided she needed multiple streams of income – this could be group coaching, courses, affiliate income, etc (10:00) Nicole focused more on her group coaching, letting her 1 - 1 services naturally ended The #1 mistake people make when adding extra income is that they try to service a different audience (13:05) Pros & Cons of 1 - 1 Services: You can give your clients a lot of time because they pay money for it, but you only have so many hours in a week (14:15) Pros and Cons of Group Services: You can create a community, but you have to have a bigger following to start. When Nicole created her first group coaching program, she called 50 people and 10 signed up – she spent six weeks not making money to achieve that (15:35) If you don’t have a big audience, you don’t want to do a course right away – focus on 1 - 1 clients. Then ask your audience questions to find what you should do next (17:30) Make sure what you do is something your audience would connect with (18:20) Affiliate Income: One of Nicole’s only really good income sources before she created her own content – it is a great way to test if your audience is interested in a certain topic (20:25) Affiliate income is the biggest type passive income, but it isn’t consistent income because you’re depending on people who may decide get rid of or change their course What Nicole’s Income Model Looks Like: 1 - 1 clients, mastermind & group program, course, affiliate income, investments & savings (24:15) Entrepreneur Obsessed Community is Nicole’s Facebook group - she loves it because it allows her to communicate with her audience (25:40) If you don’t want a roller coaster, if you want a steady flow of income without 1 - 1 services, you need more streams of income (28:10) Multiple streams of income allow you to not burn out Connect with your audience and ask what struggles they are having - ask what they want you to create next (32:30 Resources Mentioned In This Episode: Nicole’s Website – explore her programs and offers Nicole’s List of 10 Multiple Income Streams – stop relying on 1 - 1 services Join Nicole’s Entrepreneur Obsessed Community Facebook Group! In this episode of the podcast I talk to business strategist and coach, Nicole Liloia.  She explains business karma which might be holding back your success. Nicole talks about being responsive to other people, requests, emails and the like, if you are finding that people are not following up and responding to you. Then she talks about engagement. If you are finding you are not getting the engagement you want, say from your social media platforms, then to check in with yourself and see if you are engaging on other peoples content. It is not all about presenting your own work but being supportive to your network as well. Then she discusses follow through. Are you making applications and leaving them half done, are there enquiries sitting in your inbox? Follow through is all about completing the task, which can be doing the thing you said you would, it could be sending the images through to gallery or helping someone that you said you would. It's a shorter episode than others, but definitely worth a listen and she has lots of simple actionable advice to clean up your business karma. Nicole has also created a pdf to help you batch your work so that you can spend time doing more the creative stuff you love.  You can get access to it here http://nicoleliloia.com/batchlikeaboss Follow her Instagram @nicoleliloia  And Follow me on @thegitajoshi

[18:00] You can fill the gap for your tribe if you can find something out there! [19:10] Nicole is excited by Masterminds [19:23] Why do Masterminds matter? [20:20] The one-on-one effect is powerful - and the smaller the better. [21:27] Seeing other people in a group having success encourages others to try it. [34:30] Always re-read Think and Grow Rich! [35:25] Some books you need to read over again at different times in your life. [36:30] The first section in Nicole's course is the mindset because you have to do that FIRST! [36:35] The Creative Hustler launched in October 2016, and they are keeping the mindset. [37:18] Separate the #CreativeBusters from the #CreativeHustlers [37:36] Latin & Code is the main hustle, while The Creative Hustler is the side hustle. [38:00] We are always looking to the next thing, the next way to make money. Just like fashion. [38:39] Nicole is able to connect better because of travel. It keeps your vision big. [39:40] Stop living your life with blinders on. [39:58] If you say you can't do it, and you don't widen your path, you won't be able to do it. [40:20] Solo traveling makes you put yourself out there and open up. [40:39] Travel brings humility and humility brings confidence for not always saying the right thing.
