Peace Community, Look at the expense in being complicit + avoidant; Has humanity truly become competent towards violence + nonsense? The silence in the avoidance is suffocating the generation's capability to critically think + remain in consciousness + awareness. Has humanity lost their sense of sanity, dignity + empathy on this planet? A genuine question. Since we've began surfing the internet + joining social platforms there's been a great deal of association + disassociation in the most unhealthy ways amongst generations. I resonate with the process of practicing genuinely connecting, detaching and disassociating but I practice from healthier spaces.  The practice of disassociation + association should be discussed + revisited for current + future generations more often. There's so many things to think about when it comes to both practices. Having knowledge of who, what + why when choosing to associate or disassociate from timelines. There must be a willingness to mindfully exercise these practices while using discernment. How are you actively or inactively, consciously, unconsciously or subconsciously participating + contributing to the problem or solution? On peace-building in The Peace Community of San Joseì de Apartadó The Peace Community of San Joseì de Apartadó is a peasant farmer community in Urabaì subregion who declared themselves 'neutral' to the Colombian armed conflict in 1997. One of the most emblematic victims’ groups in the country, they have been alternately glorified and condemned, but this paper, based on five years’ ethnographic work, shifts the human rights frame with which they have typically been viewed and proposes a gaze based on Galtung’s ‘positive peace’ concept, revealing two key narratives which co-exist in their collective identity: the radical narrative, according to which the Community interprets politics; and the organic narrative, the way in which they perceive their relationship to the environment and to their organisational process. These combine with the cultural practice of production of cacao (cocoa) and produce a concept of alternative community.

Sandra Van Opstal, a second-generation Latina, is the executive pastor at Grace and Peace Community on the west side of Chicago. She is a liturgist and activist who is passionate about re-imagining worship that mobilizes for reconciliation and justice. In her 15 years with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Sandra mobilized thousands of college students for God’s mission of reconciliation and justice in the world. Sandra served as director of worship for the Urbana Missions Conference, Chicago Urban Program Director, Latino National Leadership Team (LaFe), and Northwestern University team leader (Multiethnic fellowship). Sandra’s influence has also reached many others through her leadership and preaching on topics such of justice, poverty, racism, racial identity, reconciliation and global mission.
