Has the pandemic changed office attire for good? Data shows that dressing for the workplace has gotten much more casual, but not for everyone. There are gender and generational gaps. But, the business suit is, for all intents and purposes, mainly gone. Then, do Americans value friendship? For several decades, some research has shown we've been steadily losing our social connections, but a new Pew Poll suggests something different. Most of us have a LOT of "close" friends. And, we finish with a very odd question about the movies. It pits Disney against 007. Lee has a great explanation for the seemingly strange results.

America: the land of feeling masquerading as opinions and the chaos that reapsAll too many Americans feel their way into having what they think are opinions. But, opinions require some basis in fact or they are simply more feelings. A recent Pew Survey shows just how little understanding many people have about who Americans are and what we do. That ignorance is useful for The Party which leverages it to create policy based on these wrong beliefs. An article in The Atlantic is a terrific example of this. The author quotes interesting data showing very wealthy, liberal neighborhoods don't want anything to do with low-income housing in their towns. Then, the author departs from data and moves into the world of feelings when he explains that only by forcing neighborhoods to accept density can kids have decent schools. Yes, he skipped right past the easiest way to fix schools and low-income areas and went straight into government force. The Atlantic writer, like the people in the Pew Poll, does not understand who Americans are and what we do. What does God's Word say? Brads got the Rona .. Daves coughing .. my nose is running. We never should have kissed. Lesson learned and this is definitely how Christmas came to be. Fight me. On this very merry episode of The Sofa King Podcast, we discuss Christmas. But it wouldn't be us if we didn't dig back the layers and come to some strange and ugly truths about the holiday that is associated with the birth of Jesus Christ. You may think this topic is a no brainer (a recent Pew Poll showed that 65% of Americans believe the Christmas story to be true), but be prepared to learn some odd truths about this beloved holiday. For one thing, the origins of the holiday and how it is celebrated date back to ancient pagan rites and were only adopted by the Catholic Church as a way to lure pagans to church membership. That's right: gingerbread cookies, the Yule Log, a Christmas ham, Christmas trees, all of it tie back to Germanic and Norse pagans and were part of a celebration of fertility and reverence for the dead. Also, we look at Santa Claus, the truth of the real man named Saint Nicholas of Parara, how his bones were stolen by sailors and moved to start the Cult of Nicholas in the 11th century, and how Siberian shamen tripping on amanita muscaria mushrooms may be the birth of the red-suited reindeer part of the myth. You may have also heard about Krampus, Zwarte Pete, and the ancient feast of Saturnalia, but we talk about some crazy facts that you might not believe. Lastly, we discuss the birth of Jesus and the Nativity itself (something that Pope Benedict XVI largely even denounced when he was the head of the church a few years ago). So, be prepared to get your Christmas bubble burst and learn how you are actually a pagan, how Santa was an anti-Semite, and how gingerbread cookies are a way to symbolically eat human flesh to venerate the dead.

This episode explores the reasons why a majority of American Jews indicate that they will vote for the Democrat candidate for POTUS. We believe that the abortion issue significantly influences the voting choices of these Jews. We start with The United West video called THIS JEW IS VOTING for DONALD J. TRUMP! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLVI2izUuzE In this video, Damon Rosen asks how can so many American Jews vote AGAINST the most pro-Israel POTUS in American history?  How can they vote for a party whose platform violates so many tenets of their religion? He's highly disturbed at the over 75% number of Jewish Biden supporters, and explains that they will vote for the Democrat because they are disinterested in the State of Israel and Judaism. We suggest that the abortion issue plays a major role in this situation. A 2014 Pew poll found that 83% of American Jews believe that abortion should be legal in all or most cases. The Democrat party platform supports unlimited abortion access. The Republican Platform stands up for the rights of the unborn. For this Jewish majority, the right to a tax payer funded abortion from conception past delivery is far more important than the right of Israel to exist or the right of Jews to practice Judaism safely and freely.   We offer talking points based in science, fact, and Jewish law and ethics that can be utilized to change people's hearts and minds. We study Power Point slide #35 A Jew Must Violate The Sabbath Rest To Save The Life Of An Unborn Child, #37 Gestational Milestones, #55 Justice For All, #61 The Moral Imperative - Torture, #73 Historical Relevance, #84 Huge Profits From Late Term Abortion, #95 Abortion Hurts Women, #98 Abortion Hurts Men, #99 Tikvat Rachel - After Abortion Healing For Jewish Men & Women, #104 Jewish Pregnancy Care, and #105 Jewish Adoption. Harvard Graduate School of Education professor Paul Reville weighed in. According to a new interactive map released by the city government, there are a total of 86 public restrooms in Boston. We asked you: Is this enough? And given the shortage, what is your restroom strategy? On her birthday, Boston Globe business columnist Shirley Leung spent more than three hours at the RMV — and lived to tell the tale. She told us her experience, and then MassDOT Registrar of Motor Vehicles Erin Deveney responded. We kicked off summer with some warm-weather wine recommendations from the Boston Wine School's Jonathon Alsop.

Gail Z. Martin, Emillie P. Bush, Jim S. Bernheimer and Theresa Bane are our featured guests. Topic: Writing for the Web is radically different from writing for print. This episode explores the down and dirty facts of those differences. For example: its immediacy (and the dangers of that immediacy); how it is used, miss-used, tweaked and manipulated; how it can be promoted and cross promoted; how what is written stays available for years; examples of people who have mastered its power to the benefit of their careers; as well as how to get started and how to get large numbers of people to read what you have written.  Hosted by Stephen Euin Cobb, this is the July 6, 2011 episode of The Future And You. [Running time: 38 minutes]. This is the second half of a discussion panel recorded before a live audience on June 4, 2011 in Charlotte North Carolina at the SF&F convention ConCarolinas. (The first half was presented last week.) News and Commentary: According to a Pew Poll, ownership of ebook reading devices has doubled in the last six months. (from November 2010 to May 2011) Pew reports that twelve percent of all adults in the USA now say they own a Kindle or other eReader. Your host emphasizes that the transition to ebooks is in full swing but will take from two to three years to play out. He discusses how this will hurt publishers, editors, bookstores, literary agents, and that it will add to our current unemployment. Authors and readers however will benefit massively.  Listener Email: Tim Proffitt wrote: "Hey stephen. Love your show! This week google released its answer to Facebook with Google+." (Tim described his expectations of Google+ verses other social media, as well as the future of the Internet as a whole.) Announcement: Skinbrain (Cerebrodermus Fantastica), your host's new novel is also selling well in the UK, where it has begun to generate additional sales of Stephen's previous novel Bones Burnt Black.  Bonus: A qoute from Skinbrain: "Einstein did not replace Newton. His was a new level of understanding that overlaid the existing model. So too, this model will not replace those of Einstein or Newton. Instead, it will explain the mystery we all pretend does not exist. The mystery of why Newton and Einstein are correct." That quote was spoken by an alien physicist who was being tortured to reveal the secrets of advanced physics which he'd recently learned from a far more advance alien civilization known only as The Cold People. Little known and rarely seen, The Cold People are human-like in shape but may have evolved on a world with rivers and oceans of methane.
