Polynomials are quintessential in machine learning for establishing relationships between outputs and inputs. However, there is also a field in cryptography which could not be made possible without polynomials - zero-knowledge technology. In zero-knowledge proof systems, computations are often represented as arithmetic circuits, and these circuits are translated into polynomials. This process is crucial for generating proofs that can demonstrate the correctness of computations without revealing the underlying data. The involved complexity explains the massive adoption hurdle for zk rollups compared to optimistic ones. Succinct aims to simplify the use of zero-knowledge proofs by providing a zkVM (SP1) that allows code written in languages like Rust to be proven in a privacy-preserving way. Here's 9 important criteria we can judge multiwinner voting systems on: 1. Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives 2. Independence of Universally-Approved Candidates 3. Monotonicity 4. Participation 5. Precinct-summability 6. Polynomial-time approximation scheme 7. Proportionality for solid coalitions 8. Perfect representation in the limit 9. Abstract: Numerous physiological processes are cyclical, but sampling these processes densely enough to perform frequency decomposition and subsequent analyses can be challenging. Mathematical approaches for decomposition and reconstruction of sparsely and irregularly sampled signals are well established but have been under-utilized in physiological applications. We developed a basis pursuit denoising with polynomial detrending (BPWP) model that recovers oscillations and trends from sparse and irregularly sampled timeseries. We validated this model on a unique dataset of long-term inter-ictal epileptiform discharge (IED) rates from human hippocampus recorded with a novel investigational device with continuous local field potential sensing. IED rates have well established circadian and multiday cycles related to sleep, wakefulness, and seizure clusters. Given sparse and irregular samples of IED rates from multi-month intracranial EEG recordings from ambulatory humans, we used BPWP to compute narrowband spectral power and polynomial trend coefficients and identify IED rate cycles in three subjects. In select cases, we propose that random and irregular sampling may be leveraged for frequency decomposition of physiological signals. Copy rights belong to original authors. In this work we revisit the next simplest scenario, a single--field model where the scalar potential is a polynomial of degree four which features a concave ``almost'' saddle point. We focus on trans--Planckian field values. We reparametrize the potential, which greatly simplifies the procedure for finding acceptbale model parameters. This allows for the first comprehensive scan of parameter space consistent with recent Planck and BICEP/Keck 2018 measurements. Even for trans--Planckian field values the tensor--to--scalar ratio $r$ can be as small as $mathcal{O}(10^{-8})$, but the model can also saturate the current upper bound. In contrast to the small--field version of this model, radiative stability does not lead to strong constraints on the parameters of the inflaton potential. For very large field values the potential can be approximated by the quartic term; as well known, this allows eternal inflation even for field energy well below the reduced Planck mass $M_{rm Pl}$, with Hubble parameter $H sim 10^{-2} M_{rm Pl}$. More interestingly, we find a region of parameter space that even supports {em two phases of eternal inflation}.
