One of the core ideas that we shared in this podcast and throughout the NYC sessions was creating more optimizations for Ethereum L2s which currently don't exist today. It feels like we've settled in to the current standards of 2 second block times and a standard of TPS which has been normal. MegaETH is trying to flip this model on its head. Centralized block production via a beefy sequencer, and decentralized block validation via inheriting Ethereum's security. For those who've been in the DeFi for a while, it's clear that performance and scalability have always been key challenges (remember DeFi Summer?). MegaETH steps into this conversation with a fresh perspective, focusing on maximizing Ethereum's potential rather than breaking away into becoming an L1. "Make Ethereum Great Again" = MEGA. We sat down with Namik, one of MegaETH's co-founders, to get a better understanding of their architecture and strategy. From leveraging Ethereum's security to scaling performance with 100,000 TPS and 1ms block times, they're pushing boundaries without sacrificing decentralization...or are they? What are the key tradeoffs with their design? Is MegaETH thinking about becoming an L1? Why has their barbell brand strategy been so successful thus far? Testnet is coming very soon, and Namik was kind enough to share some alpha with us in this stream. MegaETH has stayed true to the ethos of building with Ethereum while aiming to bring in new users and use cases. Hope you enjoy this fast paced conversation live from the heart of NYC. MEV is how some VCs value Layer 1 blockchains, its how "sandwich attacks" happen onchain, and its sometimes toxic. Although, we've found that "toxic flow" is really just profitable user trading onchain...that's a conversation for another day though. MEV has evolved from its early days as "Miner Extractable Value," a term that felt relevant in a proof-of-work world, to "Maximal Extractable Value," a crucial component embedded within Ethereum's economic fabric. As block production on Ethereum became centralized—a trade-off to support a decentralized validator set—the discussion has shifted towards ensuring that this centralization doesn't compromise the core decentralized ethos. This is where things get a bit spicy. In today's pod with Murat from Primev, we discuss the ability for users to receive pre-confs for their transactions, ensuring not just their inclusion in a block but also their execution (this is the big discrepancy). We first met Murat at Modular Summit with Tarun Chitra, where we learned about MEV commit on an iPad whiteboard diagram. We're also seeing a broader discussion unfold around the idea of multiple concurrent proposers, a proposal that could further decentralize block proposal power and potentially reduce censorship. Primev's MEV Commit fits neatly into this narrative by building on top of existing infrastructure like MEV Boost, without requiring drastic changes, and offering additional layers of security and efficiency. Testnet results are already showing promise, with MEV Commit adding up to 10% more value to blocks, which translates to higher rewards for validators and, ultimately, a more secure network. MEV Commit is reshaping how we think about gas markets, private order flow, and the overall efficiency of the Ethereum network. Pretty technical pod, hope you enjoy! The conversation explores how QED is harnessing the magic of ZK Proofs, navigating the balancing act for Bitcoin developers who do not like ordinals and for the community to grown what is possible on Bitcoin, creating ability to write contracts in one language that are composable with a contract in another language, and more. QED has also launched the L20 Consortium alongside key players such as Starkware, ZKLink, Mina and more. The industry group is setting the standards for Bitcoin's native execution layer that will make Bitcoin Layer 2s (and its dApps) as accessible as Ethereum dApps are for Ethereum users. Learn more about what is coming next - including TestNet and an abundance of opportunity. "Hedgehog uses relative time locks. So that if they don't have to worry about closing that channel with a relative time lock, it's whenever you do close the channel, now you've got 2016 blocks to sweep the money using the pre-image. Otherwise I can sweep it after those 2016 blocks go by... And because it only uses relative time locks, it's much more delay tolerant... In the Lightning Network today, you've got hours to settle these things. And often if someone sends a zap to somebody and then they turn off their computer or turn off their phone and go to the supermarket or whatever, they come back and their channel's been forced closed because it's not very delay tolerant. It only gives you hours. But the Hedgehog Network can give you months." ~ Super Testnet In this episode, I dive into the challenging yet fascinating topic of offline payments with my guest, Super Testnet. Super Testnet, a seasoned independent freelance software developer, shares his latest venture into solving some of the Lightning Network's most persistent challenges through a new protocol called Hedgehog. We discuss the technical nitty-gritty of Lightning transactions, the innovative approach of revocable scripts, and how Hedgehog might just change the game for Lightning Network payments. The conversation covers the mechanics of the Lightning Network, the complexities of conducting seamless transactions without both parties being continuously online, and the promising solutions Hedgehog proposes. Additionally, we touch upon BitVM, delving into its development, functionality, and potential impact on the broader Bitcoin ecosystem. If you are interested in understanding the technical foundations of Bitcoin's second-layer solutions and the cutting-edge developments aimed at refining digital transactions for enhanced efficiency, security, and ease of use, then this one's for you. Coming on the heels of a new $6M fundraising round, Tanssi's co-founder Francisco Agosti joins the Pirate Pod to dicusss why Tanssi appchains are changing the game and argulable are better than existing L2s and rollups when it comes to decentralization, security and more. With a maniacal focus on the developer experience, Tanssi has empowered dozens of organizations with solutions that accelerate deployment. By connecting a chain to Tanssi, it instantly transforms into a modular appchain that is developer friendly and permissionless with all essential infrastructure. This session covers the Polkadot ecosystem, use cases, the argument for appchains, decentralization, and what the raise will be used for (hint, incentivized TestNet coming soon). It's often said that Bitcoin is too limited, that you can't build anything interesting on top of the Bitcoin chain... what if that was not only true, but that there were no limits? What if literally anything you could write into code, any program, app, game, theoretically even an entire operating system could be constructed such that its valid execution determined the ownership of Bitcoin? What if there were no limits, and you could build everything on Bitcoin? Today we dive into BitVM with Robin Linus and Super Testnet. A virtual machine built entirely in Bitcoin script, with no soft fork needed. This could change everything.
