Polynomials are quintessential in machine learning for establishing relationships between outputs and inputs. However, there is also a field in cryptography which could not be made possible without polynomials - zero-knowledge technology. In zero-knowledge proof systems, computations are often represented as arithmetic circuits, and these circuits are translated into polynomials. This process is crucial for generating proofs that can demonstrate the correctness of computations without revealing the underlying data. The involved complexity explains the massive adoption hurdle for zk rollups compared to optimistic ones. Succinct aims to simplify the use of zero-knowledge proofs by providing a zkVM (SP1) that allows code written in languages like Rust to be proven in a privacy-preserving way. By doing so, it aims to lower the barrier to implementing zk-rollups and increase their adoption.Topics covered in this episode:Uma's background and her interest in zero knowledge techHow Succinct's story beganZK light clientsZK circuitsSP1 and the RISC-V instruction setThe prover networkUse casesZK rollups and commoditizing ZKPsIncentivizing proversSuccinct's business modelSupported blockchain applicationsBottlenecks in ZK adoptionSuccinct metricsSP1's competitive advantage and future roadmapThe real world impact of verifiabilityEpisode links:Uma Roy on XSuccinct on XSponsors:Gnosis: Gnosis builds decentralized infrastructure for the Ethereum ecosystem, since 2015. As more and more L2s launch promising to scale Ethereum, they end up competing for the same market share, userbase and liquidity. Apart from this harsh reality, crosschain interactions should be as seamless as possible in order to bridge different L2 ecosystems. Polygon envisions a scalable future in which various zero knowledge rollups post their proofs on an aggregation layer before settling on Ethereum, thus lowering latency and transaction costs as crosschain interactions take place expeditiously, without involving the L1 mainnet. We were joined by Sandeep Nailwal & Brendan Farmer, to discuss Polygon's aggregation layer and how it aims to solve the current fragmentation of Ethereum L2 scaling solutions.Topics covered in this episode:Polygon's ZK expansion and the acquisition of Mir ProtocolPolygon's aggregation layerBlock building between different L2sShared sequencing & asynchronous sequencingSecurity guarantees of the aggregation layerSequencer decentralisation & censorship resistanceChains using Polygon's aggregation layerPessimistic proofsCan optimistic rollups be included in the aggregation layer?Type 1 prover and Plonky3The evolution of ZKP systemsEnsuring ZK rollup integrityThe future of scalabilityEpisode links:Sandeep Nailwal on TwitterBrendan Farmer on TwitterPolygon on TwitterSponsors:Gnosis: Gnosis builds decentralized infrastructure for the Ethereum ecosystem, since 2015. 00:00 intro 00:54 lets frame what we are talking about and why! Hydra Ouroboros leos Zk rollups Side chains Partner chains Bls12381 curve primitives Plutus built ins Kitty mew mews 05:45 What will actually scale Cardano? 06:05 Most important takeaways from Charles vid on Cardano scale 11:00 Block space & “Cardano should have a fee market” 13:17 a tiered fee market vs a fee market in the traditional sense, what mev/bpev is and what happens to mev/bpev if we went with a fee market vs tiered fees, and idk I guess id call this a tiny bit grey when we ask if fee markets break determinism because traditional fee markets would not theoretically break determinism if you do not consider a fee an output? 23:20 I throw some thoughts at Riley on how tiered fees would work in ouroboros Leos and he shares some thoughts back … I also mention the Rpc equivalent on Cardano where you have a private validator giving you're tx's somewhat of a white glove service tho I forget how to say it and Riley never answered me tho I asked 3 times throughout the whole vid !!! haha so if anyone knows what I'm talking about please correct me in the comments 30:00 Is cross layer transactions exhibiting Atomic Composability with the layered approach ever gunna be possible with blockchains? Back and forth on Wallet convenience argument for a cross chain future 35:00 A comparison with radix's cerbeus sharding with atomic commitmetment approach and with when Charles mentions Cardano and sharding with ouroboros Leos. The importance of synchronicity. What Charles means by sharded? 45:55 Ergo and super blocks 47:00 summery and more comments on Cardano and scale… Also compliments and commentary on Charles Hoskinson this season … and a little bit of live research on ouroboros peras 57:00 “don't die” and Riley wishes “Solana bros” the best ! Crypto gangs analogy painting tribalism! 59:00 What are rollups and zk rollups ? Rollup “vm's” and arithmetic circuits ! Ulpc and Plutus vm breakdown. how and when Zk Rollups can work to add more scale in a couple dimensions to Cardano…. What people mean by “zk validators” … is there trade offs between scale and atomic composability when using zk rollups? The flexibility with composing logic and a technical break down of leveraging “zk rollups” 01:15:40 Cardano is adding support for an elliptic curve Bls12381 and with it comes 17 curve primitives so we explain what all that means and we then discuss what the Plutus built ins will enable ! Also we discuss Midnight ! I explain what elliptic curves do asking Riley to either add or subtract to my explanation and he adds a lot ! How Cardano is able to retain its unique or deterministic properties while supporting and augmented tech from outside of Cardano ! 01:25:00 Riley says what he think will be the biggest narrative for Cardano this cycle ! My final thought is that I don't know what the landscape of crypto will be and explain why then Riley chimes in and gives us some additional things to think about ! 01:28:30 Catch up with Riley and what Summon is doing and what's happening in the regulatory landscape for daos! “Back and forth about everything all the time” Then Dao land is brought up as well as what Riley is up to with “BIG DAO” which will be relevant to anyone with Cardano native assets or ada… also how Riley created an anti/inverse liquid stake derivative for ada??? The fluidity of “BIG DAO” will push the boundaries of DAO robustness ! What are the dao related regulatory updates and why Riley will be reaching out to auditing firms to get moving on being approved in the state of Utah… The value of playing with the tech from an educational and due diligence pov….. why big dao has an extremely inclusive approach ! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jcrypto/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jcrypto/support

Welcome to The Bitcoin Layer, where we bring you research, analysis, and education for all things bitcoin and macro. In this episode, Nik is joined by Bitcoin researcher David Seroy. David explains why a type of cryptography called "zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs" has the potential to bring scaling to Bitcoin. David argues that Lighting Network isn't enough by itself as a layer 2, and that ZK Rollups, sidechains, and BitVM might bring additional users to Bitcoin. He believes that in order to build a Bitcoin-based financial system and avoid excessive banking leverage, Bitcoin must add expressive transactions to its arsenal. Orkun is the co-founder of Citrea. A new Bitcoin L2 leveraging the latest ZK Rollup tech and BitVM to connect to the Bitcoin L1. Follow him on Twitter: @0x_orkun How best to scale Bitcoin is a hotly debated topic. One promising option is rollups, but to do them properly we need an a new OP_CODE. That is until BitVM entered the picture with a middle path with potential for bridges with much safer trust assumptions.
ZK rollups are certainly promising, as they can bring scalability and privacy to Bitcoin. In this episode, Orkun Kilic talks about Citrea: the first protocol to enable ZK rollups on Bitcoin. He explains the advantages, the tradeoffs & why you should use.

✨About Eclipse ✨ There seems to be a Cambrian explosion of alternative VMs (e.g. Move VM, Gno VM, Solana VM, Fuel VM). But the execution layer is not the only layer that's being reimagined. Up until the advent of Celestia, the crypto research space has only ever thought of consensus/security, data availability, and execution as one single monolithic stack—a Layer 1 (L1). In 2023, that all changes. Now there's about to be a Cambrian explosion of Data Availability (DA) layers (e.g. Celestia, Polygon Avail) designed for modular architectures. Eclipse is a flagship project utilizing Celestia DA that implements discrete execution layers (e.g. rollups) that plugs and plays various VMs. Will this model allow the crypto economy to finally scale to onboard its next 100 million users? Will it de-emphasize the underlying base layer, abstracting them away for the end user like how early adopters have always envisioned?

Ethereum scaling solutions often resort to tradeoffs, sacrificing security or decentralisation in favour of scalability. However, zk rollups hold the potential of increasing throughput, while also inheriting the layer 1's security. This is achieved through zero knowledge validity proofs, which are published on Ethereum mainnet. The final hurdle remains the sequencer decentralisation. zkSync was designed around EVM-compatibility, offering custom scaling solutions through its hyperchain architecture. We were joined by Alex Gluchowski, co-founder & CEO of Matter Labs, to discuss the zk rollup landscape, its bottlenecks, and what makes zkSync stand apart as the most popular rollup.Topics covered in this episode:High-level overview of zero knowledge proofsZK rollupszkSync EraZK ecosystem taxonomyRollup performance: bottlenecks & tradeoffsBridging between zkSync hyperchainsData availability. Nicolas Liochon is the Global Lead for Linea, which is a new zkEVM rollup by Consensys. Rollups play a crucial role in scaling Ethereum as they reduce computational load on the main network by processing transactions off-chain. The two prominent rollups currently available on Ethereum are ZK Rollups and Optimistic Rollups, and Linea is the latest ZK Rollup to launch. In our conversation, we will explore how Linea sets itself apart in the already highly competitive Ethereum Layer 2 landscape. But first, we will begin our conversation with an introduction to Linea.
Episode three of the Zero Barriers podcast series looks at the future of scaling. David Lavecky, co-founder of Canvas, recalls the moment in 2020 when he realized the base layer of Ethereum could not scale for use by banks and institutions without help. And Louis Guthmann, ecosystem lead at StarkWare, explains the history of scaling and the challenges ahead. He reveals two Starknet upgrades coming in 2023, putting it on track to match Visa in transactions per second. Layer 2 zero knowledge roll-ups have initially been used for achieving private transactions on blockchains. However, past simple transfers, interacting with a public smart contract posed a serious challenge. As research and technology evolved, proof construction became much more efficient, enabling zk-powered scalability. There is a variety of pros and cons for each type of proof system, but given the impending rise of qunatum computers, we have witnessed a recent migration from SNARKs to STARKs. While the former relies on trusted setups, zk-STARKs are quantum-resistant.We were joined by Eli Ben-Sasson, co-founder of Starkware, to discuss Starknet's layer 2 architecture, as well as the upcoming update to Cairo 1.0 and how it will impact scalability performances for STARKs.Topics covered in this episode:Shifting from privacy to scalabilityZK roll-up taxonomy and main differences between SNARKs and STARKsWhy scalability is easier to implement than privacy solutionsConstructing proofs efficiently in CairoStarknet's layer 2 architectureBuilt-in account abstractionVolition, data availability and trust assumptionsSequencer decentralisation and crypto regulationsStorage proofsCairo upgrades & TPSCouncil-based vs. DAO governanceFuture developmentsEpisode links:Eli Ben-Sasson on TwitterStarknet on TwitterThis episode is hosted by Friederike Ernst. A common standard for comparing Layer-1s is how they prioritize the spectrum of Blockchain Trilemma (security, scalability, and decentralization). For the sake of this video, we will be discussing scalability. The main elements of scalability that can be increased are throughput (transactions per second) and transaction speed (finality). Scalability is necessary for widespread crypto adoption because it improves user experience and enhances the scope of which applications a blockchain can optimally support (i.e., order-based DEX). ●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Clips Channel ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3yr... ●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Timestamps▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● 0:00 - Token Metrics Intro 0:07 - Deep Dive Intro 0:14 - Ethereum Competition & L2 Scaling 0:21 - Blockchain Trilema 0:32 - Scalability 0:59 - Ethereum 1:11 - Reasons why ETH competitors emerged 1:23 - Solana 2:18 - Binance Smart Chain 3:31 - Near Protocol 4:11 - Avalanche 4:48 - Layer 2 Solutions 5:00 - Rollups 5:18 - ZK-Rollups & Optimistic Rollups 5:24 - Optimistic Rollups 5:56 - ZK-Rollups 6:47 - Drawbacks of Rollups 7:02 - Celestia 7:28 - Closing thoughts 8:18 - Blockchain Interoperability Solutions 8:32 - Deep Dive Outro 8:48 - Token Metrics Outro ●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● Check out Token Metrics Apparel: https://shop.tokenmetrics.com Link to Crypto Investing Guide Audiobook: http://tmt.link/audible Link to Crypto Investing Guide on Amazon: http://tmt.link/amazon Sign up for Token Metrics at https://tokenmetrics.com Or Sign up for our Weekly Newsletter at https://bit.ly/3B9OVDP for the latest in crypto trends, news and analyses, and promos!! This week on the DeFi Mafia Podcast we have on the Joe Andrews (Co-founder) and Jon Wu (Head of Growth) from Aztec Network to discuss ZK Rollups, the future of Ethereum scaling, importance of privacy in crypto, and much more!Subscribe to our weekly newsletter: https://defimafia.substack.com/subscribe
In this episode of Understanding Crypto, Paul Abercrombie demystifies Zero Knowledge Rollups or ZK Rollups, a layer 2 scalability solution which promises to improve the speed and cost of transactions. Paul says the function of the ZK Rollups is similar to a solicitor who confirms the specifics of a purchase without letting both sides see all of the information. The Problem Paul says that the two major challenges facing the crypto industry are scalability and inter-portability. Currently most large scale investments in the crypto market are based on addressing one or both of these challenges. In a typical crypto transaction all parties and nodes have to agree on the terms and conditions, known as proof of work. Additionally, gas fees make the process expensive: “You are paying to use the Ethereum network and out of gas fees, miners get paid their fee for carrying out that transaction,” Paul remarks. He believes that these operations are time consuming, expensive and ultimately reduce the system's efficiency. [Listen from 2:09 ] The Solution Zero Knowledge Rollups or ZK Rollups, one of the possible scalability solutions, helps to expedite the process by accepting only specific information from the contract, effectively reducing the time required for the transaction. ZK Rollups functions like a solicitor who confirms the specifics of a purchase without letting both sides see all of the information, Paul says. Currently, each node retains a copy of every transaction that occurs in the Ethereum blockchain. Paul comments, “That's exactly what scalability solutions are trying to solve with ZK Rollups, a way of storing that information off chain but providing enough information so both parties can agree.” The Merkle tree cryptographic structure, which is used to store data and enable knowledge transfer between participants, makes this possible. He suggests that listeners look for blockchains that are actively tackling the issue of scalability through solutions like ZK Rollups when looking for new investments. [Listen from: 6:50] Key Takeaways: Blockchains may be able to store data off-chain using Zero Knowledge Roll Ups, a potential scalability solution.

In this episode, Chris and Szi delve into ZK-Rollups. ZK stands for Zero Knowledge, which are a form of cryptographic proofs that have been around since the 80s and allow the parties to prove statements are true without conveying any information apart from the veracity of the statements. ZK-Rollups is a form of Zero Knowledge Proofs that allow for the scaling on the layer 2 of the blockchain. ZKRollups does this by aggregating on chain transactions, taking it off chain, and working its magic. Why do this? The benefits of layer 2 is faster transactions, larger network throughput, and cheaper gas fees while allowing us to leverage the security of the Ethereum network. There are some unique features of the ZKRollups that separate it from other layer 2 scaling solutions and we discuss why this could be the solution Ethereum needs to establish its dominance in the battle of the blockchains once again. This week Jorrin Bruns (Support Engineer, Parity Technologies) speaks with Sota Watanabe, CEO of Stake Technologies and founder of Plasm, a platform designed to help developers deploy fast and secure decentralized applications (DApps) on Polkadot. They discuss advancing Web3 via cross-chain collaboration, supporting DApp development, and decentralizing the Plasm network. Watanabe walks us through being the first parachain on Rococo, completing the first cross-chain message (together with Acala), bringing Ethereum compatibility and ZK-Rollups to Polkadot, staking and trading DApps, securing a parachain slot, and much more. Highlights: 0:00 Intro to Stake Technologies and Plasm 03:35 Japan’s version of Web3, the Trusted Web Council 06:35 The value of decentralized organizations 09.48 Connecting blockchains with Substrate 10:32 Support for multiple blockchain technologies 13:05 Plasm’s unique mechanisms; DApp staking and ZKRollups 16:50 Buy and sell Plasm applications 18:15 Stake Technologies Web3 grants 22:10 Schiden and Plasm parachain strategy 24:07 Making blockchain history 26:36 Cross-chain message passing 30:05 NFT capabilities beyond gaming 33:09 Encouraging DApps to build on the Plasm Network Links: Sota Watanabe on Twitter (https://twitter.com/WatanabeSota) Plasm Network website (https://www.plasmnet.io) Stake Technologies website (https://stake.co.jp/en) Key Quotes: “When it comes to a smart contract platform, I think a layer 2 solution is needed in the long run so we are making the foundation, the Substrate of Web3, for really normal people. Polkadot itself is a scaling solution, but this is a layer 1 scalability solution. We need vertical scalability which is layer 1, that is why we are working on ZKRollups now. Vertical scalability is much faster, more flexible, and cheaper since layer 2 doesn’t need to be a broken chain” “What makes Plasm different from other parachains? We innovated two things, one is DApps staking and another one is the scaling solution ZKRollups” “We are working on an Ethereum bridge, a Secret Network bridge, and also a Binance bridge in the near future” “We have already connected our Plasm network testnet to Rococo and we have deployed a Web Assembly smart contract and it works on the top of Polkadot’s parachain testnet” “In the past few months, we have successfully completed the first cross-chain messaging passing with Acala. Our token can be transferred to Acala and you can receive the Acala token on the Plasm network” “We support Ethereum Virtual Machine on the top of the Polkadot parachain, so the user can actually develop and make applications on top of Polkadot parachain, instead of individual substrate chains. I think this is one of the most important upgrades in the ecosystem” “On the top of the Plasm network, we can transfer ownership of a smart contract” “We are making a new M&A solution in the blockchain system” Special Guest: Sota Watanabe.
