What everyone agreed on: Two cars collided. One, driven by a Hasidic Jew, veered off the road and critically injured two Black children, one of whom ultimately died. A crowd formed. Police arrived. What no one agreed on: Anything else.In the summer of 1991, Crown Heights, NY exploded into three days of violence fed by rumors and competing narratives formed from incomplete facts. In the chaos, some saw anti-Black police bias. Others saw violent anti-Semitism. But playwright Anna Deavere Smith heard the honest voices of a divided national narrative. Join us for this remarkable play that features the real words of more than 20 people, interviewed immediately after the events, speaking honestly, the way we do in private. Let's listen.Run time: 2 hours, plus a 15-minute intermissionContent Warning: Fires In The Mirror catalogs reflections of the Crown Heights Riots, a racially-charged conflict that engulfed the New York neighborhood in 1991. In this episode, I sit down with Julian Drucker, a seasoned music supervisor sharing his journey and insights into the world of music synchronization. Coming from a family of musicians and composers, Julian naturally gravitated towards a career in music supervision. We discuss the vital role of one-stop representation, the challenges of music licensing, and the importance of creating authentic music that resonates with artists rather than merely chasing synchronization trends. We also delved into the complexities of exclusivity and retitling in music licensing. Julian highlights the conflicts that can arise when the same song is pitched by multiple companies and the ethical considerations involved. He emphasized the need for more artist-friendly practices and expressed hope that retitling is becoming a thing of the past. Additionally, Julian shares his personal musical projects, including writing three musicals and composing electronic music for a dance production in San Francisco, as well as an upcoming indie pop release. Julian offers valuable advice for aspiring artists: learn about all aspects of the music industry, from streaming and distribution to touring and licensing, and stay true to your artistic vision.  This episode is packed with knowledge and inspiration for anyone in the music industry. Guest Bio: Julian Drucker is an independent music supervisor who has worked on a wide array of film and television productions. His recent supervision work includes the prison docuseries Justice, USA (HBO Max), the procedural drama 9-1-1 Lone Star (FOX), the reality hit Love Island (CBS), The Great Muslim American Road Trip (PBS), The Sundance Film Festival trailer, Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World (ABC) and various independent films. In 2023, Julian was nominated by the Guild of Music Supervisors for the drum ‘n' bass drama Purple Beatz. Julian works with fellow music supervisor Christine Greene Roe on a variety of projects, including the award-winning miniseries Lessons in Chemistry (Apple), the screwball sci-fi satire Made for Love (HBO Max), and the upcoming family comedy The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh (Amazon). Julian began his music supervision career at Deep Cut Music under the wing of veteran supervisor Maggie Phillips, with whom he worked closely on numerous critically acclaimed TV shows and films, including The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu), Shrill (Hulu), Homecoming (Amazon), Snowfall (FX) and Juliet, Naked (Lionsgate). He later went on to become the first hire at Yay Team Productions, working alongside music supervisor Amanda Krieg Thomas on hit series such as Big Mouth (Netflix) and The Shrink Next Door (Apple), in addition to a full slate of projects from executive producer Ryan Murphy, including American Horror Story (FX), Pose (FX) and movie musical The Prom (Netflix). Two of his musicals have been given workshops and performances in theaters across the country and he has a third in development. Most recently, he released an album of experimental electronic music – Here. Now. by Charivari – written for a contemporary dance production that went up at the Exploratorium in San Francisco. About the Hosts: We're Sonnet Simmons and John Clinebell, 2 indie artists who have found success and creative fulfillment through licensing our music for ads, TV shows and films.  We were once so disheartened and discouraged that our music wasn't being noticed or valued through traditional methods. So we both started on a journey to find another way. For us, that “third door” was sync! And what we discovered is a lot better than we could have ever even imagined…[Find out more here] Resources From This Episode: 2Indie - Visit our website for more resources and information on how to get YOUR music signed The Sync Society - Want to join our exclusive online sync community, with weekly LIVE networking and coaching calls? @2indieofficial - Follow us on Instagram Sync It! Happy Wine Wednesday!  Award winning journalist Abbey White is back this week to bid a fond farewell to the FX series Pose.  We kick things off with our thoughts on the unexpected announcement that the series was coming to an end.  We then share our overall impressions of the final season.  We loved ALL things Elektra, but did not love some of the pacing issues created by the reduction of episodes.Series co-creator Steven Canals said that in mapping the final season out, the writers looked back to the dreams of the main characters identified in season 1 and essentially set out to make those dreams come true in the final season.  With that in mind, we walk through the final chapter in each character's arc and share our thoughts on where they ultimately landed.Next, we discuss our favorite episodes and musical cues.  We also share our MVPs of the series.  No discussion of Pose would be complete without discussing our thoughts on Pose's chances for long overdue awards season recognition and why the few nominations the show gets seem to all go to Billy Porter. The episode closes with our thoughts on Pose's legacy and the actors who made us thirsty. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @MoreWinePod! Hey Sprinklers! We are back from a bit of a break, with a show chock-full great streaming recommendations as well as a Tasty-Treat-Sensation that will blow your socks off!HBO's BIG LITTLE LIES is just breathtaking! It tackles some very serious and intense issues all the while keeping you in suspense and wanting more! The cast is full of Hollywood powerhouses, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Meryll Streep, Nicole Kidman, and Zoë Kravitz who are all incredible. This is strictly a show for adults as it contains depictions of violence and nudity. (What HBO doesn't have violence and nudity?) It's very powerful and really one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Then I rave on about FX's Pose! Season 1 is on NETFLIX, season 2 has already aired on FX and will apparently coming to NETFLIX sometime this year. The largest cast of Transgender actresses of any show to date. The cast is spectacular! Billy Porter is a scream and such a talent! India Moore is stunning. MJ Rodriguez will steal your heart! And Dominique Jackson is a modern day Joan Collins! Centered around late 1980s New York in the Ball scene which inspired one of Madonna's most famous songs Vogue. Contestants (many of whom were members of the LGBT community) walked runways to compete for trophies. The various themes were fascinating! The houses which is what they called various teams where often literally a collection of people who would live in one house under a "Mother" who would over see the house. Often these were cast-outs who were abandoned by their families because of them being LGBT. The series is set admit the AIDS epidemic. (See the fabulous and heartbreaking documentary, PARIS IS BURNING on NETFLIX to see what POSE is centered on). Pose will want you coming back for more. I recommended this to all my friends who were all so angry when they finished season 1 and realized season 2 is still not on NETFLIX yet. This is also an adults only show. For our Tasty-Treat-Sensation we have Popeye's New Fried Chicken Sandwich. It is incredible! Ever since I had it I have been craving it more and more! Let me recommend you get the fries and the coleslaw! You will not be mad ;)

We might be done with Pose for now, but we are not quite ready to leave the ballroom yet! This week’s episode features a deep dive into “The Queen,” a 1968 film directed by Frank Simon and “Paris is Burning,” directed by Jennie Livingston (1990). 05:40-31:02What we liked this week: Jocelyn attended her very first ballroom event - the Porcelain Ball - and it was EVERYTHING! Kristine celebrated the LONG OVERDUE discussion of reproductive rights at the Democrats’ primary debate. In particular, we loved Julián Castro’s reproductive justice-framed response. We salute Castro and the impressive work of his campaign manager, Maya Rupert.31:03-48:59As always, there were things that we did not like. For starters, stop vandalizing the Emmett Till Memorial! Next, we move on to a very important public announcement: IF YOU ARE NOT BLACK, THE N-WORD IS NOT FOR YOU. Kristine wraps up the segment with another repeat offender - Twitter. People on the spicy bird somehow managed to confuse Elijah Cummings and John Lewis. 49:00 - END:We move on from our personal rants to one of the greatest rants/reads of all time, courtesy of the LEGENDARY House Mother Crystal LeBeija in The Queen. In addition to LaBeija’s iconic reading skills, The Queen also highlights compelling explorations into the subjects’ views on military service and gender confirming surgery. As many know, LaBeija is much more than a masterful reader. She went on to start the system of house-sponsored balls that are the focus of Paris is Burning. We reflect on the insights from the film’s subjects, the idea of fantasy fulfillment through ballroom participation, and how vocabulary from the film has evolved (or in some respects lost its meaning) over time. Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Links: The Queen is available on YouTube. Check it out! Paris is Burning is streaming on Netflix. The trailer for Tongues Untied (1989) by Marlon Riggs.
