This mix is a continuation of a trend I noticed several years ago - the use of sax or other wind instruments in ambient music. I think I've done 3 other mixes that feature wind instruments.  This one came together fairly quickly as there is a lot to choose from. Most of the tracks are 2023 or 2024 with 4 of the 14 a bit older. I really like the flow of this set, one song bleeds right into the next with the beginnings and endings slightly obscured. This also seems to work well as and autumn themed mix. I picture a cold, dreary autumn day like the one in the cover art. Speaking of the cover art, does anyone get the connection between the title and the cover? The show that talks about you on purpose is talking about BATMAN on purpose this week. That's right, dear listener, this episode is all about the fallout from last September's Super-Controversial Live Action Batman Rankings episode, which got a surprising number of responses from some very passionate fans of The Dark Knight, and we finally decided to respond to them. Sure, it took us a while, but at least we're dismissive of your personal rankings, so that's cool, right? But we also talk about a bunch of other stuff, like British alt-rockers Wet Leg's self-titled debut album, and we also ramble about Vincent Gallo's Buffalo 66 for a while because we know what our audience wants, Sarah Neufeld's brilliant Detritus, Something called "Toehider" (pronounced "Toe Hider") that sounds pretty cool, somebody else recommends the music of King Woman to us, which we always appreciate, some deranged commenter wants to take our relationship to the next level, and so much more! It's a pretty stacked Mail Bag this week, so strap in and enjoy the journey. Join the conversation! Leave a comment on the official TRAPPO blog telling us what you'd like to hear us talk about on future episodes, or really just tell us whatever you want to tell us. We don't care. If you need to get something off your chest, go for it. We love a good story. And if you're in a more verbose mood, go ahead and blast off to email town and tell us a longer story if you're feeling so inclined. We always appreciate that. And if you're looking for the complete TRAPPO experience, you can always find us on Instagram, because that's still a thing.

The way that Mary Lattimore and Sarah Neufeld met is kind of a rock and roll dream. Lattimore went to see Neufeld’s band, Arcade Fire, before they were huge stars, and they got to talking. When Lattimore mentioned that she’d be moving to Philadelphia soon, Neufeld and her bandmates asked her to perform with them—so her first time playing on stage outside a more classical setting was in front of a huge Arcade Fire crowd, and it gave her the performing bug. Both Neufeld and Lattimore have released fantastic records recently: Lattimore’s Silver Ladders came out last year on the Ghostly International label, and it met with widespread acclaim. Sarah Neufeld’s brand new record, Detritus, was born via a collaboration with Canadian dancer Peggy Baker. Neufeld wrote the songs that would become this album to accompany Baker’s choreography, and she even went on the road to accompany the dance performances. She later went into the studio and, with help from her Arcade Fire bandmate Jeremy Gara, set to recording them. It’s an incredible collection that blends her primary instrument with ambient electronics, drums, and other sounds.  In this conversation, Neufeld and Lattimore talk about the night they met and subsequent nights they don’t remember, a harp that lives in Prague, writing music to accompany dance, and how a harp might actually help induce labor in an expecting mother. I love you so will you marry me". Escuchar audio

Richard Reed Parry is the featured guest on this Score to Screen podcast. The Nest composer explains how his intuitive response to watching the entirety of the film without music inspired how he devised the acoustic score. The Nest follows Rory (Jude Law), an ambitious entrepreneur and former commodities broker, who persuades his American wife, Allison (Carrie Coon), and their children to leave the comforts of suburban America and return to his native England during the 1980s. Sensing opportunity, Rory rejoins his former firm and leases a centuries-old country manor, with grounds for Allison's horses and plans to build a stable. Soon the promise of a lucrative new beginning starts to unravel, the couple have to face the unwelcome truths lying beneath the surface of their marriage. Richard Reed Parry is the musical polymath at the heart of the endlessly inventive art rock band Arcade Fire, but his work and story reach far beyond. As well as navigating Arcade Fire's meteoric rollercoaster ride around most of the globe over the past fifteen years, he also released his debut album as composer for Music For Heart and Breath in 2014, formed and toured in the acclaimed contemporary instrumental ensemble Bell Orchestre with Arcade Fire violinist Sarah Neufeld, formed the sonic folk ensemble Quiet River of Dust, and collaborated and performed endlessly with artists from across a dazzling musical/artistic spectrum including David Bowie, David Byrne, the New York Philharmonic, Neil Young, and more. He has won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year, multiple Juno Awards for both Arcade Fire and Bell Orchestre, The Polaris Prize, Brit Awards, and Socan Awards among others. The Nest is Parry's debut feature film score as solo composer. The Score to Screen podcast series is produced and hosted by Crossover Media's Max Horowitz. Listen to The Nest Soundtrack here. Sarah began developing pieces for solo violin in a formal sense in 2011. Violin driven, emotive and minimalistic, her influences range from Bartok, to Arthur Russel, to Aphex Twin. Neufeld’s acclaimed debut album Hero Brother (Constellation Records), produced by Nils Frahm, was released in 2013.In 2015 Neufeld released Juno award winning Never Were The Way She Was (Constellation Records) with celebrated saxophonist and collaborator Colin Stetson, and in 2016 Neufeld released her second solo album, The Ridge (Paper Bag, Kartel Music Group) featuring Jeremy Gara (of Arcade Fire) on drums.2017/18 saw the beginning of an important new collaboration with Canadian dance legend Peggy Baker. Neufeld composed the live score, featuring herself (violin/vocals) and Jeremy Gara (drums/synth), for Peggy Baker’s critically acclaimed contemporary dance piece Who We Are In The Dark, which has toured extensively in 2019. On this episode, RJ speaks with percussionist Dani Markham. A born beatmaker, Dani has channeled her lifelong passion for rhythm into musical stylings from across the world. In 2014 Dani toured with the indie pop sensation Tune-Yards, forging a unique musical bond with their leader Merrill Garbus. In 2016 Dani joined Childish Gambino, the Grammy-winning stage name of superstar Donald Glover, to bring her sound into their eclectic rhythm section. Between world tours, Dani found time to compose an hour-long drum score for a live dance performance called "It's Time," with choreographer Jenn Freeman. This unique concept and composition is just another step in Dani's ongoing experiments with rhythm and sound. After the interview, you'll hear Dani perform three brand new songs that she wrote with violinist Sarah Neufeld, best known as a member of Arcade Fire. The second season of Q2 Music's LPR Live podcast launches with a performance from composer and Arcade Fire violinist Sarah Neufeld. Her album The Ridge melds elements of classical, folk and pop and at times even simulates the sounds of electronic looping, but in an all-acoustic setup. We caught up with her on the last show of her tour promoting The Ridge to discuss the influence of yoga on her music and the importance of daily discipline. Then we join the audience at Le Poisson Rouge for a performance of the title track with Colin Stetson on the electronic wind instrument the Lyricon and drummer (and fellow Belle Orchestre member) Stefan Schneider. The Ridge is Neufeld's second album, following her debut Hero Brother. In addition to performing solo and with Arcade Fire, she is a founding member of Montréal's Bell Orchestre and of a new duo with her husband, the saxophonist Colin Stetson. This performance was recorded April 15, 2016 at Le Poisson Rouge.
