VettaFi Head of Energy Research Stacey Morris joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the performance and positioning of the Alerian Midstream Energy Dividend ETF, and to provide a broader outlook on the midstream energy sector in the context of today's evolving market dynamics. Morris began by explaining the role of the midstream segment within the energy value chain, describing it as the “shipping and handling service” of the industry. Unlike upstream producers that are heavily exposed to commodity price fluctuations, midstream companies are focused on transporting, storing, and processing oil and natural gas—services that are typically governed by long-term, fee-based contracts. This structural model, she emphasized, gives midstream operators stable, predictable cash flows, making them more resilient in volatile or declining energy price environments. The conversation turned to recent weakness in oil markets, with U.S. oil benchmarks falling roughly 17% between April 2 and April 8, 2025. Morris attributed the drop primarily to increased supply from OPEC+ nations and mounting concerns over global economic growth and trade activity. “There's just been a number of concerns around the outlook for the global economy or trade,” she noted, which has added pressure to oil prices in the short term. However, Morris pointed out that midstream energy assets tend to outperform in such environments. Their reduced sensitivity to commodity pricing and defensive investment characteristics—especially consistent dividend payouts—make them an appealing option for income-focused and risk-averse investors. One of the most compelling parts of the midstream growth story, Morris said, is its exposure to natural gas, which continues to see rising demand from multiple sectors. She highlighted projections that U.S. natural gas demand is set to grow by 25% between 2024 and 2030. Morris emphasized that midstream companies are critical enablers of this growth, thanks to their essential role in building and operating the pipelines and facilities required to move gas efficiently to domestic and international markets. Importantly, Morris noted that the underlying index of the Alerian Midstream Energy Dividend ETF has a 65% tilt toward natural gas infrastructure, further positioning the fund to benefit from long-term trends in natural gas expansion, even amid near-term oil price volatility. #proactiveinvestors #MidstreamEnergy #EnergyETF #NaturalGasDemand #StaceyMorris #EnergyInfrastructure #AlerianETF #OilPrices #LNG #InvestorInsights #CommodityMarkets #EnergyMarketUpdate #DefensiveInvesting #ProactiveInvestors

VettaFi Head of Energy Research Stacey Morris joined Steve Darling from Proactive to about about the resilience of the midstream energy sector in 2024, which has delivered strong results despite broader energy sector challenges. Unlike other energy segments, midstream companies focus on transporting energy via long-term, fee-based contracts, offering more stable cash flows independent of oil price shifts. Morris noted that midstream firms have thrived on rising natural gas demand, driven by power sector needs and data center growth, with some companies experiencing 60-80% growth. Additionally, Morris discussed VettaFi's recent transition to a new underlying index for the Alerian Midstream Energy Dividend, enhancing the fund's structure and targeting high-performing companies, resulting in an average dividend yield of around 5%. The sector's growth and stability position it well for continued demand-driven returns. #EnergySector #MidstreamEnergy #NaturalGasDemand #InvestmentInsights #ProactiveInvestors #EnergyStocks #DividendInvesting #MarketOutlook #AlerianMidstream#invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews #proactiveinvestors

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for September 12, 2024 is: fraternize • FRAT-er-nyze • verb To fraternize with someone is to be friendly with them or to spend time with them in a friendly way. Fraternize is often, though not always, used in situations where such friendly behavior is considered wrong or improper, as in “fraternizing with the enemy.” // The boss warned that fraternizing with the junior employees could be a risky career move for a manager. See the entry > Examples: “Ten years after the successful opening of the Tyler Colleges, my grandfather, who was 17 at the time, began to study and take advantage of the rich social and economic legacy of barbering. He opened the first barbershop to be owned and operated by an African American in Gordon Heights, Long Island. From its humble beginnings to the next 68 years thereafter, his business became a place in the Black community that men gathered to connect, fraternize and—of course—get groomed; a place where Black men found hopes, dreams and pride.” — Stacey Morris, Variety, 23 Feb. 2022 Did you know? O brother where art thou? In many an English word descended from the Latin noun frater, meaning “brother,” that's where. Both fraternize and fraternal (meaning “of, relating to, or involving brothers”), for example, come to us by way of Medieval Latin from frater. Other frater progeny in English include friar and fraternity. Even brother itself shares a relationship with frater (albeit it a more distant one). These days, although fraternize can still apply to a brotherly association or simple friendliness, it is often used in phrases, such as “fraternizing with the enemy,” implying friendliness toward someone who would be better avoided.

Proactive - Interviews for investors

Play Episode Listen Later May 30, 2024 4:28

VettaFi Head of Energy Research Stacey Morris joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the robust performance of the midstream energy sector. The midstream energy dividend UCITS ETF has exhibited strong growth, rising 11% year-to-date. This performance outpaces major European energy companies and the Euro Stoxx 600 oil and gas index. The sector's growth is primarily driven by companies generating substantial free cash flow and increasing their dividends. Impressively, 90% of the index's companies have raised their dividends in the past year. Morris highlighted that first-quarter earnings in the sector exceeded analyst expectations, prompting some companies to raise their annual guidance. The sector also saw a significant $1.5 billion in equity buybacks, underscoring the financial health and shareholder-friendly policies of midstream companies. One of the key drivers benefiting the midstream sector is the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in data centers, which is boosting demand for natural gas. This trend supports the midstream sector without exposing it to the volatility of commodity prices. Morris emphasized that investors should consider midstream investments due to their stable returns derived from fees for moving and processing natural gas, attractive yields, and defensive energy exposure. Despite the strong performance, valuations in the midstream sector remain attractive relative to historical averages. This presents potential opportunities for re-rating as companies continue to execute their strategies effectively. The outlook for the remainder of the year is positive, with expectations of continued dividend growth and equity buybacks. Importantly, these positive trends are expected to persist regardless of the upcoming elections, providing investors with a degree of certainty and stability. Morris noted that the midstream sector's ability to generate consistent free cash flow and its commitment to returning capital to shareholders through dividends and buybacks make it an appealing investment. The sector's resilience and growth potential are underpinned by strong operational execution and favorable market dynamics. Looking ahead, VettaFi expects the midstream energy sector to continue delivering robust performance. The combination of attractive valuations, stable income streams, and growth opportunities driven by increasing natural gas demand positions the sector for sustained success. Investors are encouraged to explore midstream energy investments to capitalize on these favorable trends. #VettaFi #EnergyResearch #MidstreamEnergy #Dividends #ETFs #NaturalGas #Investment #Earnings #ArtificialIntelligence #DataCenters #EnergySector #StockMarket #EquityBuybacks #InvestorOutlook #DividendGrowth #CashFlow #MarketPerformance #CommodityPrices #EnergyInvestment #FinancialNews#invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Barry Ritholtz, chairman and chief investment officer at Ritholtz Wealth Management, says that with the market being driven by inflation, there is a very slim chance that the Federal Reserve 'sticks the landing, gets it just right and we're off to the races again,' but an equally small worry about the central bank taking rates too high and making a giant mistake that craters the market. He believes the Federal Reserve likely lands somewhere in the middle, triggering a small, shallow recession. Ritholtz says investors need to stay focused on their goals and not get too excited by market moves in 2023, noting 'You have to be short-term greedy, not long-term greedy.' Also on the show, Stacey Morris, head of energy research at  VettaFi, talks midstream energy infrastructure investing in The NAVigator segment and, in the Market Call, Eric Schoenstein, chief investment officer at Jensen Investment Management discusses focusing on quality amid volatile, choppy markets.

The global energy landscape has changed dramatically over the last decade, primarily as a result of the significant growth in production and exports of oil and natural gas from the United States. Energy infrastructure companies have played a significant role in facilitating the growth of US energy production and moving the US towards energy independence all while generating fees that support generous dividends. Here to discuss the income opportunity and current tailwinds for the energy infrastructure and MLP space is Stacey Morris.

Pack your bags and grab your passport - we're going to Zamunda! In this week's episode we discuss Coming 2 America, which may have more appropriately been named Coming to Zamunda. We kick off with our overall reactions. We then break down our thoughts about the things we liked, the things we didn't know how to feel about, and the things we didn't like about the film. Next, we discuss the new casting additions to the film. We loved Wesley Snipes chewing up scenes as General Izzi. We speculate about what the sequel would look like with Ryan Cooler at the helm, which leads to a very passionate plea from Jocelyn for fan casters to broaden their horizons when developing dream casts for movies. We salute the film's MVPs - Leslie Jones was a standout and the image of her wafting her "special scent" over a pumpkin spice candle will remain with us forever. It was no surprise the the costumes were immaculate thanks to Ruth E. Carter. With the exception of a questionable wig on Jermaine Fowler early in the film, we LOVED the work of hair department co-heads Carla Farmer and Stacey Morris. It wouldn't be us if we didn't get thirsty, so of course we discuss our crushes from the Coming 2 America cast. We close out by discussing whether we would be up for more movies featuring Zamunda's royal family.Join us next time as we revisit Coming to America (the original) and examine whether the film still holds up. The ETF Investor’s Guide To MLPs, With Alerian And ALPS

It has not been a good decade for MLP investors. Even with double digit yields, total returns on the sector are at -4% annualized going back to 2010. Alerian’s Stacey Morris believes that’s all about to change as 2021 will see meaningful growth in MLP free-cash-flow and dividends for the first time in years. SS&C ALPS' Paul Baiocchi also joins the conversation and goes under the hood of his firm’s 2 Alerian MLP ETFs, AMLP and ENFR. On this episode of Let's Talk ETFs - the first to focus specifically on MLPs in an ETF wrapper - we cover everything from why companies would choose the master limited partnership structure, the unique and often confusing tax code around MLPs (and how ETFs like AMLP and ENFR manage to largely sidestep it), differences between American and Canadian Partnerships, and how various outcomes in the upcoming Presidential election are likely to affect the broader MLP sector.  Show Notes 3:30 - How has the pandemic affected Stacey and Paul's work lives? 8:00 - What makes a company an MLP? What are the benefits of this structure? 10:30 - How are MLPs insulated from price movements in crude oil and natural gas? 14:15 - The outlook for MLPs in 2021 and beyond: Lowering CapEx, increasing FCF 22:00 - Dealing with the tax man: How do you get around issuing K-1s in AMLP? 26:00 - How are holdings selected and maintained for both ENFR and AMLP? 28:30 - Divergent performances: Why has ENFR outperformed AMLP? 34:45 - How much overlap is there between the holdings of these two funds? 37:00 - Biden vs. Trump: How will the outcome of the upcoming presidential election affect energy mid-stream players? Getting Your Website Content Together for Launch; Website Content Growth Welcome back everybody to episode 003, which is part two of a five-part series on building a website for your small business, kicking off Web and BeyondCast. I'm Ray Sidney-Smith and if you haven’t yet listened to episode 002, which is part one in this series, with Ryan Cleland of W Street Design, I highly recommend that you hop back an episode and check it out. I’m pleased to bring the voices and intellect of this expert panel of content writing specialists on the show today, to discuss getting your website content together for launch and planning your website’s content growth. (If you’re reading this in a podcast directory/app, please visit http://webandbeyondcast.com/003 for clickable links and the full show notes and transcript of this cast.) On this episode, we discussed and answered the following questions: When approaching a new website, what are some good suggestions for getting organized to write your website content? What other collateral needs to be written alongside the website content? What should you plan for when it comes to your website growing? Blog? Resources? Podcast? Etc.? What are the pitfalls you see website publishers make when launching a small business website? And what solutions can you suggest? What are the most common errors you see people make before and just after their website launches? Should you write your website content yourself? Should you hire a writer? If you hire a writer or an agency to produce the website content, what information should you be prepared to provide to them? What do writers need to know to create your web copy? If you'd like to discuss this episode, please click here to leave a comment down below (this jumps you to the bottom of the post). If you have a question about today's episode, please contact us here! In this Cast Ray Sidney-Smith, Host Beth Lawton, Canoe Media Services Beth Lawton is a recovering digital journalist who has worked in the Midwest, Caribbean and the Washington, DC area, where she now resides. She is now founder and owner of Canoe Media Services, a content marketing firm that focuses on helping small and growing businesses become better known, more liked and more trusted by their current and potential customers. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and Northwestern University. Stacey Morris, Focus Copywriter Stacey Morris , of Focus Copywriter, has been in sales and marketing since she was 16 years old, when she started traveling around the country demonstrating kitchen gadgets at state fairs. She’s settled down since then, preferring to write copy and content from a comfortable office. But a few of lessons stuck from those years: It doesn't start with what you sell - it starts with you. You've got about 7 seconds to get someone's attention before they disappear...forever. And educating your prospect is about the best investment you can make in building your base. That's where content marketing comes in. But, she hasn’t fully left behind her roots in direct sales. She still travel to a few fairs, coaching salespeople and marketing new products. So she really means it when she says helping small businesses grow has been a lifelong passion for her. Tara M. Clapper, Express Writers Tara M. Learn how Stacey Morris transformed herself and her Journey from 345 Pounds to Freedom. Stacey shares her expertise to jumpstart your own transformational health and personal journey! Stacey Morris spent most of her adult years in what she describes as a ‘potato chip coma,’ using food as both an escape and coping mechanism. It may have brought temporary relief, but binge-eating took a toll on her well-being. In 2009 Stacey reached an all-time-high weight of 345 pounds. It was the wake-up call that motivated her to turn the ship around. A lifelong dieter since the age of 9, Stacey knew that this time, a less rigid approach would be required. Instead, she embarked on a path that included listening to her body’s cues for hunger, consulting with a nutritionist, and agreeing to face stress and other unpleasantness rather than engaging in marathon eating sessions. She also took up yoga as a middle ground between a sedentary lifestyle and joining a gym. Today, she travels the country sharing the story of her transformation that had her dropping 180 pounds without dieting or gimmicks. “There’s no one answer to reaching health and balance; it’s a mosaic of solutions,” explained Stacey. “I literally could have a Ph.D in my knowledge of what doesn’t work I share with audiences things like what food choices are best for energy and weight loss, why a little hunger is good for the body and soul, as well as the importance of being kind to yourself.” When she realized her new way of living was no passing fancy, Stacey decided to write a “Clean Comfort,” a cookbook-memoir that outlines both her struggles with food and low self-esteem and her triumphs over the demons. She has written two more cookbooks on clean eating and espouses a gluten-free, cow-dairy-free, and low-sugar lifestyle. Her latest book, released in August of 2018, is titled “The Untended Soul: The Path to Light and a Lighter Way of Being.” Stacey’s fourth book is a collection of essays that address the emotional side of the overeating and weight issue. She knew that without healing and self-esteem from within, the victory would be a hollow one. All four books are available on her website and through Amazon. She’s also a health coach, DDPYOGA instructor, and a winter resident of Palm Beach County. For more information about the author, visit www.StaceyMorris.com.

Stacey Morris is a journalist, food writer, and a self-described Recovering American who dropped 180 pounds without dieting, surgery, or "any of the miracle-gimmicks pedaled to the masses of Americans trapped in the cycle of overindulging and dieting," she explains. If a diet and exercise plan were really what I needed, the weight would have been gone decades ago," she says. "As someone who loved food far too much, to the point of misusing it, I knew the weight would never stay off until I dug into the reasons I was drugging myself with it," Stacey reveals. "Daring to go where I never wanted to changed my life forever." She doesn't deny that she'll always be a food-lover, and admitting that is a key part of why she's kept the weight off for more than four years. "I enjoy food more than I did when I was a binge-eater, but it's a different ball game. I eat with awareness now...no longer in a trance," she says. Stacey's writing nowadays is dedicated to more than just the brass tacks of how she got rid of the weight and is keeping it off. She touches on subjects ranging from the rights to respect and dignity for people of size, how the shame from being bullied at school often results in eating for emotional comfort, and her outrage over fast food chains and food corporations "inventing foods designed to addict us." That's right, it's another Community Show on DDP Radio this week as we get the conversation rolling with two important topics: Preparation and Willingness.  Both may seem unrelated but owning up to both are crucial to walking the walk and staying on track. No matter how great a track record or how many years someone's been a member of Team DDPYOGA, NO ONE is exempt from the effects of emotional gravity, whether it's caused by a bad day at work, a close friend or family member letting you down, or being bombarded by fear-mongering news headlines. The question always boils down to: what are you willing to do to NOT let it drag you under?  Using the workouts, the support network at Team DDPYOGA, taking healthy action to solve a problem, and eating clean are all great tools to get the upper hand over emotional gravity. And speaking of clean eating, anyone who walks that walk knows it's not always the easier choice. Wednesday is  your chance to ask co-hosts Robert, Mike, and cookbook author and clean recipe developer Stacey Morris their tips and techniques for eating clean.
