Summary In this episode of The Chasing Health Podcast, Chase and Chris dive into a phrase we've all said before: “Tomorrow's a new day.” They explore the positives and negatives of this mindset when it comes to fitness, nutrition, and life. While the ability to let go of perfection and reset is vital, using this phrase too often can lead to procrastination and inconsistency. Chase and Chris break down how to find the balance between giving yourself grace and staying committed to your goals. They share practical tips on creating a sustainable plan, setting realistic standards, and staying consistent without guilt or shame. The episode also discusses strategies like planning ahead, defining what "good" looks like for you, and evaluating your habits. This conversation will inspire you to take control, make conscious choices, and stop falling into the “I'll start tomorrow” trap. Chapters 00:00 Welcome Back! Holidays were hard for Roger Samples in 1975.He was living alone, just him and Josephine the Cat rattling around on Mount Union Road where he was house-sitting for Susan and David Peyton. (As reported earlier, the Peyton family had left town for six months in Lafayette, Louisiana, where Dave was researching Cajun culture for his Alicia Paterson Foundation fellowship project.)Nonetheless, that autumn was a fertile one for Roger and the fledgling Flood. That's because every few days, Joe Dobbs would come by to jam with Rog; when he didn't, Charlie Bowen did. In those waning days of the year, life-long friendships were formed.Holiday AdoptionAs the holidays rolled in, though, the pickings got slim. Busy with Dobbs family affairs, Joe couldn't drop by as frequently. As a result, Roger starting spending many of his evenings at the Bowen house with Charlie and Pamela.“Y'all take in strays?” Roger asked the first night he appeared on their doorstep.“Come on in, buddy! Pull up a chair.”A new routine developed. Getting home from a day of teaching at Mason County's Hannah High School in Apple Grove, Rog would have supper with Charlie and Pamela, then he and Charlie broke out the guitars. That year Roger was even there to help decorate the Bowens' Christmas tree, stringing lights and hanging tinsel while they listened to the new albums by Jackson Browne and David Bromberg, Steve Goodman and John Prine.Pamela usually was the only audience for the tunes Roger and Charlie worked out in those last weeks of 1975, songs like this one, which she recorded in the Bowen living room on Nov. 28, the night after Thanksgiving.About the SongOne of the first things Charlie and Roger learned about each other was their shared love for Bob Dylan songs. For nearly a decade by then, both had been listening to Dylan discs and working up their own versions of his songs.Quickly they found they each had a rendition of “Tomorrow Is a Long Time” which they had heard a few years earlier on the 1971 release of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. II.Dylan wrote the song in 1962, including it as a demo for M. Witmark & Son, which became his publishing company at the time. (That particular track, incidentally, has long been available as a bootleg; so has an outtake from the June 1970 studio sessions for Bob's New Morning album.)Over the years, “Tomorrow Is a Long Time” has been covered by many Dylan friends and admirers. Most notably, Elvis Presley recorded it in the spring of 1966, appearing as a bonus track on his Spinout album.Elvis and OthersPresley was taken with the song after learning it from West Virginia's legendary harmonica player Charlie McCoy, who played it the previous year on Odetta's album Odetta Sings Dylan. Dylan has said Presley's cover of the song is "the one recording I treasure the most.”Besides Elvis and Odetta, others who have recorded the song include Joan Baez and Ian and Sylvia (1963), Judy Collins (1965), the Pozo-Seco Singers (1966), The Kingston Trio (1969), We Five and Glenn Yarbrough (1970), Rod Stewart (1971), Sandy Denny (1972).Stay TunedMeanwhile, if you enjoyed today's trek in the time machine, hang around. More of that late ‘75 vibe will be featured in a Flood Watch report next week, including a trio of Roger-and-Charlie originals and some vintage solos by fiddlin' Joe Dobbs. This is a public episode. Bob Dylan was 20 years old, lovesick and lonely in 1962. His beautiful girlfriend, Suze Rotolo, had prolonged her stay in Italy indefinitely, and Bobby wouldn't see her again for almost another year.Consequently, Suze figured prominently in a number of early Dylan verses, including some of his best love/angst songs of the period, including "Tomorrow Is a Long Time,” "One Too Many Mornings" and "Boots of Spanish Leather.”Above all, the Suze song was Bob's classic and most covered creation of the period: “Don't Think Twice, It's All Right.” When Dylan first performed the song publicly — 61 years ago this week at New York's Gaslight Cafe — Suze was already gone. For four months already, she had been away taking art classes at Italy's University of Perugia.Bob's bitterness over her long absence is evident throughout the song's lyrics. In fact, Dylan later told critic Nat Hentoff that the song wasn't a love song at all, but rather “a statement that maybe you can say to make yourself feel better ... as if you were talking to yourself.”Enter Paul ClaytonThe melody of the song was greatly influenced by the tune of a public domain traditional song called "Who's Gonna Buy Your Chickens When I'm Gone,” which Bob learned from fellow folkie Paul Clayton. (Clayton himself had recorded it two years earlier, though he tweaked it to be "Who's Gonna Buy You Ribbons When I'm Gone?”)Now, legend has it that Clayton had an unrequited crush on the young Dylan, but those tender feeling didn't stop him (or at least didn't stop his music publisher) from suing Bob for plagiarism. In addition to a similar melody, Dylan's song also borrowed a few lines — some word-for-word, others slightly altered — from the Clayton recording, notably, the opening words: “It ain't no use to sit and wonder why.” Most of the subsequent verses also open with “It ain't no use to….”As Phillippe Margotin and Jean-Michel Guesdon note in their authoritative Bob Dylan: All the Songs, Paul's lawsuit resulted in “a generous compensation for Clayton shortly before the two folksingers, reconciled, toured together in February 1964.”(Incidentally, another of Clayton's original lines — "So I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe, where I'm bound, I can't tell” — Dylan subbed out in subsequent recordings with "So long, honey babe, where I'm bound, I can't tell.”)Spreading the WordIn 1963, Columbia Records released “Don't Think Twice,” first on the Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album, then as the B side of the single of “Blowin' in the Wind.” However, neither of those efforts really resonated with the record-buying public. But then that same year, Peter, Paul and Mary came into Bob's life. Dylan's manager, Albert Grossman, also managed PP&M, and Grossman started offering his songs to them and to other artists as they headed into recording studios."Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" was one of three Dylan songs Peter, Paul and Mary picked up for their third album, In the Wind (the other two being “Blowin' in the Wind” and "Quit Your Lowdown Ways").Released as a single, the trio's recording of “Don't Think Twice” reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and and No. 2 on its Easy Listening charts. That disc not only popularized the song but also introduced many listeners around the world to a new name: “Bob Dylan.”Our Take on the TuneThis Dylan classic has been in the Floodisphere forever — Roger and Charlie used to sing it together a half century ago — but only recently has it made a move to be in the regular repertoire. That's when Randy stepped to sing his signature harmonies and Danny and Sam started doing double duty on the solos. This is a public episode. Deel 1, Tomorrow Is a Different Day. Collectie 1980-nu is al open. Deel 2, Everyday, Someday and Other Stories. Collectie 1950-1980 is vanaf 19 februari te zien. Deel 3, kunst en vormgeving voor 1950, opent einde zomer 2022. Vanaf dan zal de gehele collectieopstelling van het Stedelijk te zien zijn in het historische gebouw.

In this episode, Doctor Geek and Mister Flask discuss the City of Tomorrow, and how their talents can add to the project. But what makes a City of Tomorrow? Is it simply modern architecture where everyone is living in the clouds or under the sea? No, it is more than that. The City of Tomorrow addresses the ills of mid-20th Century urban development by creating a community designed to better meet the needs of its citizens. The focus on community and ecological practices are the cornerstones of New Urbanism. While Doctor Geek was inspired by Walt Disney’s Experimental Prototype Community […] The post The City of Tomorrow appeared first on The ESO Network.

In the final installment of the series based on “Tomorrow Is a Long Time: Tijuana’s Unchecked HIV/AIDS Epidemic,” writer Jon Cohen explores what it would take to end the AIDS epidemic in Tijuana by 2030, as called for by UNAIDS. Dr. Davey Smith of UC San Diego argues for aggressive, frequent HIV testing in high-risk groups and shows how cutting-edge genetic science can unravel how the virus moves through communities. Cohen explains the benefits of harm reduction strategies, such as providing clean needles and methadone to thwart HIV transmission. And, in an intervention tailored specifically to this epidemic, Steffanie Strathdee and Tom Patterson’s group at UC San Diego has begun training the Tijuana Police about HIV and urging officers to see drug addiction as a sickness, not a crime. Series: "UCTV Prime" [Public Affairs] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 30008]
In the third of a four-part series, photographer Malcolm Linton and writer Jon Cohen tell the stories of Victor, Fernanda, Sergio, Susi, Nelly and others living with HIV who are featured in their photo essay book, “Tomorrow Is a Long Time: Tijuana’s Unchecked HIV/AIDS Epidemic.” Linton and Cohen spent two years interviewing and photographing transgender women, people who inject drugs, sex workers and men who have sex with men in Tijuana, documenting what happened to them over time. Series: "UCTV Prime" [Public Affairs] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 30007]
In the second of a four-part series based on “Tomorrow Is a Long Time: Tijuana’s Unchecked HIV/AIDS Epidemic,” Dr. Jose Luis Burgos guides medical students from UC San Diego and Universidad Autónoma de Baja California as they offer free health care at HFiT, the Health Frontiers in Tijuana clinic at Prevencasa. The segment also features an HIV telemedicine project that spares patients a long journey to CAPASITS, the government-run HIV/AIDS clinic across town, and the Tattoo Removal Clinic, a project led by UC San Diego’s Victoria Ojeda that helps people become more presentable to potential employers. Series: "UCTV Prime" [Public Affairs] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 30006]
In the first of a four-part series, UC San Diego epidemiologist Steffanie Strathdee and psychologist Tom Patterson start the story of how their research teams have traced the spread of HIV in Tijuana. It opens at a wound clinic in El Bordo, the section of the Tijuana River Canal where migrants and others shoot heroin and, in some cases, share needles. Dr. Patricia Gonzalez-Zuniga offers first aid as she and her staff recruit participants into Strathdee’s Proyecto El Cuete, a study which focuses on HIV prevention for people who inject drugs. Also featured is the inspiring Susi Leal Ricardi, an HIV-positive outreach worker who was once addicted to heroin and had lived in El Bordo. Leal overcame her addiction, has been clean for 14 years, and with the help of antiretroviral drugs, she has fully suppressed her HIV. She is now El Cuete’s “star promotora.” The HIV/SIDA series is based on the book “Tomorrow Is a Long Time.” Series: "UCTV Prime" [Public Affairs] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 30005]

The four-part HIV/SIDA series follows UC San Diego epidemiologist Steffanie Strathdee, psychologist Tom Patterson and their binational team of doctors, researchers, medical students and outreach workers as they document the spread of HIV in Tijuana. Starting at El Bordo in the Tijuana River Canal and moving to the clinics at Prevencasa, the Las Memorias AIDS hospice and then inside the Tijuana Police Academy, this series shows their efforts to treat and prevent HIV infection among high risk groups, including people who inject drugs, sex workers, transgender women and men who have sex with men. Also featured are photographs and stories of those impacted by HIV, as portrayed by Malcolm Linton and Jon Cohen in their book, “Tomorrow Is a Long Time.” The series concludes with an assessment of what it would take to end HIV/AIDS in Tijuana. Funding for the book and series was provided by the Ford Foundation. Series: "HIV/SIDA: The Epidemic in Tijuana" [Public Affairs] [Health and Medicine] [Show ID: 30004]
