This week's show kicks off our annual celebration of Gothtober in a grand way! Your favorite fiends welcome local Atlanta goth legend Matt Spatial from Now After Nothing who provides us with some tunes that show a true appreciation of the grim and ghastly! That's right, everything turns grey as they once again explore the dark and ethereal world of Goth Rock…What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection, an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is forced to test his endurance and provide feedback, as he has no idea what he will be subjected to every week. Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, or something you've simply forgotten about, or that (in our opinion) should have been the next big thing.Songs this week include:Bauhaus – “Sanity Assassin” from Sanity Assassin - Single (1983)Astari Nite – “Tongue Tied Galore” from Resolution Of Happiness (2024)Switchblade Symphony – “Bad Trash” from Serpentine Gallery (1995)Curse Mackey – “Lacerations” from Immoral Emporium (2022)Al1ce – “Wide Awake” from The Thirteenth Hour (2018)Now After Nothing – “Fixation Fantasy” from Artificial Ambivalence (2024)If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=u

It's a Cruel World after all. Yes, the preeminent festival for lovers of new wave, darkwave, synth-pop, goth and post-punk music (new and old) is back for a third year. Whether you're going...or just wish you were...let your friends at O3L be a part of your pre-game celebration! We will be conspicuously absent from the fun this year. Brett's usually right there, but has something even more important to celebrate - his son's university graduation. But we won't let a little thing like that deter us from building our fantasy day at Cruel World. This year's roster includes Duran Duran, Tones On Tail, Interpol, Blondie, Simple Minds, Soft Cell, Adam Ant, Ministry, Jesus And Mary Chain, Gary Numan, Heaven 17, The Mission, The Stranglers, General Public, The Motels, Lol Tolhurst x Budgie, and more! Etwa „Paul ist tot“ von den Fehlfarben, "Movement Of Fear" von Tones On Tail oder "Things We Never Did" von Sad Lovers And Giants. Weitere Bands mit Saxofon in dieser Folge sind unter anderem Grauzone, The Psychedelic Furs, Fields Of The Nephilim, Romeo Void, The Damned und The Cure. We discuss Tones On Tail's Everything! compilation album, released in 1998.
Giligadi learned to sign by singing along with Peter Murphy. It gave him a big range of octaves. Then he discusses his love for Tones on Tails. And finally he discusses Love and Rockets.

It's a repost of Baxie's conversation with Daniel Ash of Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, and Love and Rockets--in his very FIRST podcast interview ever! Awesome! Also available on Apple Podcast, SoundCloud, Spotify, and on the Bax & O'Brien website!
From Chad Radford: Burning From the Inside has always held something of a mystery simmering just beneath the surface of every note and every lyrical phrase. Bauhaus' final album (the first time around) perfectly distilled the band's black-clad post-punk and proto-goth traipse into an enigmatic final act. Like the arrows of chaos, seminal recordings by Love and Rockets, Peter Murphy, Tones On Tail, David J, Daniel Ash, and Dali's Car all fired off in every direction shortly after its arrival. I'm not sure if there's a literal code to crack here, but nods to Italian Futurism in “Who Killed Mr. Moonlight” take shape as a poignant snapshot of a group that has already pulled itself apart at the seams. “Antonin Artaud” pushes that tension to an ecstatic state, “King Volcano,” “Slice Of Life,” and the album's title track are monster cuts—quintessential Bauhas. “Hope” brings it all to a warm and psychedelic landing, hinting at what the future holds in store. But it's difficult to see the forest for the trees, maybe that's what the cover art is all about. All meaning is shrouded in layers upon layers of cinematic imagery here. Nearly 40 years after its arrival, Burning From the Inside still reveals all sorts of insight into the band's history and legacy. I was thrilled when Cassy, Tom, and James invited me on the show to talk about it all.Check out Chad's work at https://radatl.com/

Kevin Haskins's spare, hypnotic style laid the foundation for goth luminaries, Bauhaus. He tells Joe about: growing up in Northampton; seeing bands like The Who and Led Zeppelin; how the burgeoning punk scene gave him confidence to pursue music; playing the now-classic "Bela Lugosi's Dead" for the first time; the sense of devastation he experienced after the breakup of Bauhaus; working with subsequent bands such as Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets; and passing on his love of music to his children. Check out the new Bauhaus release "The Bela Session" out this Friday, 11/23.

Starting off the show with some upbeat fun from Tones On Tail, Bow Wow Wow, Adam Ant, Spandau Ballet and Replacements.
"We said at the time, 'this is either gonna be commercial suicide or this is our Dark Side of the Moon'." As anyone who knows me can attest...I am a huge Bauhaus and Love & Rockets fan. I have been since I was a teen. I had the fortunate occassion to interview David J last year on this very podcast and I described it best back then: "Everybody has that one band. That band that you discovered in your teens that made you realize music can mean more to a person than mere beat and melody. That band that helps you discover who you are. That band that soundtracks your adolescence and thus your entire life. For me, that band was Bauhaus." So of course, you can imagine my excitement when I learned that Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins were slated to stop in Denver for a Lipgloss DJ set. They graciously agreed to a meeting at the Fire Lounge in the Art Hotel on Broadway for a special edition taping of Behind The Scene on COScene! We had an amazing talk about their histories in music, the incredible L&R album 'Hot Trip to Heaven' (which was an album ahead of its time), Dave Clark 5, creativity vs. technical skill, coffee table books, stripping down songs to their elements, motorcycles, upcoming projects and so so so much more. This was a fun one for sure! Check out an article where Kevin Haskins outlines his new book coming out this Fall! Also check out Daniel's wonderful album, "Stripped" where he reimagines classic Bauhaus, Love & Rockets and Tones on Tail hits. Listen above and as always, subscribe direct on iTunes and RSS. After a few weeks under the darkness of a cloud, sunlight has once again shone its beautiful face here on the farm. It's a good thing too, because we have a nice little tomato patch that was in desperate need of some beamage in order to shed its inedible green exterior for that of a pluckable vermilion hue. Needless to say, the bulk of this week's episode was created while following a billowy bouncing ball of mozzarella cheese as it danced and danced its way across the basil-rich landscape constructed by the selections herein.
