Billy Preston [03:58] "Get Back" Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band RSO RS-2-4100 1978 So yeah. A soundtrack to a movie that is very much of it's time. Not only tdo we have The Bee Gees and Peter Framption as the titular band, we have Earth Wind & Fire doing "Got to Get You into My Life", George Burns doing "Fixing a Hole", Alice Cooper doing "Because", Aerosmith handling "Come Together", and my second favorite track: Steve Martin doing a wild and crazy version of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (https://youtu.be/F__uGshlbOo?si=qn4U4_ZIGttfns5E). This version of Get Back by the one and only Billy Preston still seals the deal for me. If you are inclined to check out this film, I can only say that it is very much of its time (https://youtu.be/oioCI1p6Y30?si=34PQo_XspuXmnRPc). Lord only knows how much white powder was used in the production. The Moody Blues [16:29] "You and Me" Seventh Soujourn Threshold THS 7 1972 Maybe it's me, but it seems like the intro could have been 8 bars or so shorter. True story: the first pair of concert tickets that I ever won from listening to the radio was for The Moody Blues on their Long Distance Voyager tour. For some reason my parents didn't think it would be appropriate for a 13 year old to go, so I got to keep the record (long since lost) and gave my tickets to the high school kids across the street. As a founding member of the ground breaking Bauhaus, multi-instrumentalist Daniel Ash has distinguished himself in the world of contemporary music. He later went on to form Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets. Bauhaus were an English rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. Known for their dark image and gloomy sound, they are one of the pioneers of gothic rock, although they mixed many genres, including dub, glam rock, psychedelia, and funk. Love and Rockets were formed in 1985 by former Bauhaus members Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins after that group split in 1983. Ash and Haskins had recorded and performed in another band, Tones on Tail, between 1982 and 1984.

As we enter into October, we will be looking at bands with a darker edge.  Tonights band is Bauhaus. They are an English rock band, formed in Northampton, England, in 1978. The group consists of Daniel Ash (guitar, saxophone), Peter Murphy (vocals, occasional instruments), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J Haskins, or “David J” (bass). One of the pioneers of gothic rock, Bauhaus were known for their dark image and gloomy sound, although they mixed many genres, including dub, glam rock, psychedelia, funk, power pop and ska. Bauhaus broke up in 1983. Murphy began a solo career while Ash and Haskins continued as Tones on Tail and, later, reunited with David J to form Love and Rockets. Both enjoyed greater commercial success in the United States than Bauhaus had, but disappeared from the charts in their homeland. Bauhaus eventually reunited for a 1998 tour, again from 2005 to 2008, and once again in 2019. Bauhaus, Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets, Peter Murphy, The Cure

Wayne Hussey is goth-rock royalty. Between his tenure as guitarist in The Sisters of Mercy to founding the The Mission UK, the frontman/guitarist has created some of the most iconic and evocative work in the genre...and beyond. Never content to rest on his laurels, Hussey remains a creative force, as evidenced on The Mission's 2016 epic 'Another Fall From Grace.' And now he's lending his musical talents to a host of charities for Covid-19 frontline workers with a new charity version of one of his biggest hits. Hussey has remade The Mission's 1988 classic 'Tower of Strength' (retitled as 'TOS 2020') with a huge host of musicians (christened as The ReMIssion International) that reads like a Who's Who of alternative icons, including (deep breath) Andy Rourke, Billy Duffy, Budgie, Evi Vine, Gary Numan, James Alexander Graham, Jay Aston (who we've interviewed for this podcast), Julianne Regan, Kevin Haskins (who we've ALSO interviewed for this podcast), Kirk Brandon, Lol Tolhurst, Martin Gore, Michael Aston, Michael Ciravolo, Midge Ure, Miles Hunt, Rachel Goswell, Richard Fortus, Robin Finck, Steve Clarke, Tim Palmer and Trentemøller. In this episode, Hussey and I discuss what inspired remaking 'Tower of Strength', the Herculean task of assembling such an intimidating list of collaborators (and how he got Jay and Michael Aston to appear on the same track), his thoughts on being a musician during a pandemic, his other recent creative pursuits and more. So check it out, and be sure to stick around afterwards, when we'll be playing the radio edit edition of 'TOS2020', And you can purchase the new single in a variety of digital and physical formats by visiting the band's official website. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/slis/support

Originally from Chicago and now living in New York City, singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jonny Polonsky has released six full-length records in the last 23-years before releasing his latest LP "Kingdom of Sleep" early this year. This album was mixed and mastered by Mike Tholen (Chris Connelly, Revolting Cocks). It was self-produced by Polonsky on Ghostworks Recordings. Polonsky has worked with many talented musicians through the years and performed on albums by Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Tom Morello, Pete Yorn, Dixie Chicks, Minnie Driver, Donovan, Mark Lanegan, Maynard James Keenan, Francis Black, Kevin Haskins, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and many others. His latest single, "You Turn Me On" is remixed by Jim Sclavunos, one of the members of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Grinderman. Some of the themes explored in his music are "songs of sex and death and love...hymns of despair and transcendence. A celebration of what it feels like to be human; from the exalted, grandest moments of euphoria and bliss, to the universal pain of loss and letting go. Beauty at every turn."https://www.jonnypolonsky.comhttps://jonnypolonsky.bandcamp.com

Music From the Goddess' Vault Podcast

This show was a suggestion from a fellow Pagan Podcaster who thought that I was ignoring the gods in most recent past shows. I mean the men when it comes to spirit guides of the week. This show is not just about one, but many. And I am not going to be ignoring any genders here. I will also talk about how you can find a deity to worship on your own. The Spirit Guide of the Week is Huitzilopohtli and the Dream Symbol is Puzzles. Bauhaus were an English post-punk band, formed in Northampton, England in 1978. The group consisted of Peter Murphy (vocals, occasional instruments), Daniel Ash (guitar), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). The band was originally named Bauhaus 1919 in reference to the first operating year of the German art school Bauhaus, although they shortened the name within a year of formation. One of the first gothic rock groups, Bauhaus were known for their dark image and gloomy sound, although they mixed many genres, including dub, glam rock, psychedelia and funk.

Kevin Haskins's spare, hypnotic style laid the foundation for goth luminaries, Bauhaus. He tells Joe about: growing up in Northampton; seeing bands like The Who and Led Zeppelin; how the burgeoning punk scene gave him confidence to pursue music; playing the now-classic "Bela Lugosi's Dead" for the first time; the sense of devastation he experienced after the breakup of Bauhaus; working with subsequent bands such as Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets; and passing on his love of music to his children. Check out the new Bauhaus release "The Bela Session" out this Friday, 11/23.

“David J Says Peter Murphy Is Keeping Everyone In Stitches” Although it’s hard to imagine the Dark Prince of Goth is also a fountain of chuckles, David J says his bandmate Peter Murphy has been in fine form and keeping everyone laughing while on tour. The two former Bauhaus members have teamed up with a full band for an extensive tour to commemorate 40 years of Bauhaus and they’re crushing it everywhere they go. The former Love and Rockets/Bauhaus bassist/singer talks to Alex about how his reunion with Murphy came about, his relationship with former bandmates Daniel Ash and brother Kevin Haskins and why he’ll never retire. He also talks about reading Ian Curtis’ love letters, the sadness of the Beach Boys and his work with the Jazz Butcher Conspiracy. Alex also tells David J that he’s interviewed 3/4 of Bauhaus and now just needs Peter Murphy to complete the Goth Grand Slam… Photo Credit: Judy Lyon

He also talks about his new single “Alien Love,” says Kevin Haskins is always making lists and he tells Alex what picture hehas hanging in his bathroom.

Drummer Kevin Haskins has lent his talents to Bauhaus, Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets, three of the most acclaimed bands of the post-punk era. He's revisiting his musical roots with 'Bauhaus - Undead: The Visual History and Legacy of Bauhaus,’ a deluxe coffee table book chronicling his tenure with Bauhaus, who helped popularize the Goth subculture (even though they refuted the classification). In this week's episode, Haskins discusses the making of his new book (due March 16th via Cleopatra Records), remembering his time in Bauhaus, what's next for his new group Poptone, and more. *For those who are curious, this episode's theme song is 'Hold it,' provided by L.A. space rockers Interstelar. "We said at the time, 'this is either gonna be commercial suicide or this is our Dark Side of the Moon'." As anyone who knows me can attest...I am a huge Bauhaus and Love & Rockets fan. I have been since I was a teen. I had the fortunate occassion to interview David J last year on this very podcast and I described it best back then: "Everybody has that one band. That band that you discovered in your teens that made you realize music can mean more to a person than mere beat and melody. That band that helps you discover who you are. That band that soundtracks your adolescence and thus your entire life. For me, that band was Bauhaus." So of course, you can imagine my excitement when I learned that Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins were slated to stop in Denver for a Lipgloss DJ set. They graciously agreed to a meeting at the Fire Lounge in the Art Hotel on Broadway for a special edition taping of Behind The Scene on COScene! We had an amazing talk about their histories in music, the incredible L&R album 'Hot Trip to Heaven' (which was an album ahead of its time), Dave Clark 5, creativity vs. technical skill, coffee table books, stripping down songs to their elements, motorcycles, upcoming projects and so so so much more. This was a fun one for sure! Check out an article where Kevin Haskins outlines his new book coming out this Fall! Also check out Daniel's wonderful album, "Stripped" where he reimagines classic Bauhaus, Love & Rockets and Tones on Tail hits. Listen above and as always, subscribe direct on iTunes and RSS.
