"An accomplished entrepreneur and digital marketer, Marcus Alvarado started his career as freelance marketer while attending UCCS from 2009-2014. Before graduating with his Bachelor's degree in Business, he co-founded the university's first-student ran marketing club: The UCCS American Marketing Association. Upon departure, Marcus had made a name for himself as an experienced marketer and had the opportunity to spearhead the marketing for Eco Cabins, one of the first builders in the tiny house movement. With them, he had the the opportunity to market the first tiny home model to be featured on the HBA Parade of Homes in the country - Winning the coveted 2014 Colorado Springs Parade of Homes' People's Choice Award. In efforts to continue work with the Colorado Springs' HBA, EcoCabins decided to organize a complimentary event during the opening weekend of the 2015 & 2016 Parade of Homes. For both summers, Marcus market/organize the world's largest tiny house exhibit (50 tiny houses), The Tiny House Jamboree, which took place in Colorado Springs, CO. This event brought over 50,000 people from all 50 states and 14 countries, gaining international attention. With events being hosted on The United States Air Force Academy and The Western Museum of Mining and Industry, The Tiny House Jamboree had instilled also itself as one of the largest events in Colorado Springs history - The New Yorker (http://www.newyorker.com/business/currency/little-houses-by-the-prairie). In the Summer of 2018, Marcus coordinated his own tiny house event (out-of-pocket) called, The People's Tiny House Festival, which drew in over 20,000 attendees and brought in an estimated economic impact of $2.4 Million to the Colorado Springs' economy. Today Marcus focuses his efforts on making The People's Tiny House Festival (also referred to People's Fest) an event that accurately gives patrons a taste of southern Colorado culture while also exhibiting downsized living options for all stacks of consumers." - Marcus's LinkedIn bio Link to subscribe here: https://bit.ly/2PQxukB --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cosbusinesspodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cosbusinesspodcast/support

This week's guest is Skylyn Webb, a middle distance runner for Saucony's Freedom Track Club. Sky has an incredible story beginning in Colorado where she played basketball at Fort Lewis College before joining the track team and becoming a 3-time D2 national champion in the 800. Most recently, she qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials at the Music City Track Carnival this past weekend and you can catch her in Eugene next week. We got into some pretty heavy stuff talking about Sky's unorthodox journey to running, coming out to her parents, and learning to channel adversity into positive outcomes. We also assessed Sky's potential in the beer mile, her impulse pickups of a tattoo and a puppy, and planned our post-pandemic Boston summer. Sky's leading the way as one of the few openly gay athletes at Trials, which we talk about a bit on the pod, so happy Pride to all our queer listeners and friends! This was a great episode with a wonderful person and athlete and hopefully the first of many more in the coming weeks leading up to, and during, the Olympic Trials in Eugene. Make sure you subscribe if you aren't already and enjoy the great long-run talk we've got coming up! On taking up running at a difficult point in her life: “I was in a tough spot, and I ended up reaching out to the track coach at Fort Lewis and he let me on the team. It brought me out of that hole and allowed me to finish my eligibility at UCCS and it all led to… here. At the time it was awful, but I wouldn't change it now.” On taking an unorthodox path to pro running: “I hope [my story] can go to show that you don't have to be this perfect runner all throughout your whole life…. it's fine to get into it later or not be so serious for a while, and it can still work out.” On her potential in the beer mile “I don't want to be too confident, but I think I could be real good. That might be the only time I could beat Helen [Schlachtenhaufen] in a mile.”
