In this episode, Robyn McTague talks about growing up being very intuitive and having a sense of knowing that something big is about to happen that will change her life forever. That 'something' was being diagnosed with breast cancer, in spite of doctors telling her for six months that it wasn't cancer. Needless to say, she felt betrayed by the medical field! So just two weeks later she was in surgery again. Her recovery was long and she was on chemo for two years. Ultimately, he decided to leave an environment that was corrosive to him. He says, 'I thoroughly enjoyed my career as a firefighter but I had reached a point where it was becoming corrosive to me. Practicing gratitude can truly be life changing. This is a pretty bold statement to make, I know. However, it's true. Why? Gratitude is a higher vibrational energy and can shift you from the lower vibration emotions such as shame, grief, and despair. When you're practicing gratitude, you now only shift your personal energy, but you shift the energy of those around you as well. In this episode, its just me - Dana Zarcone - and I get raw, real and emotional as I tell you some secrets. Things that I have never said publicly before but can no longer be left unsaid. And I hope that by sharing my story I can inspire some of you in some small way. I do get graphic in this episode and my story may be disturbing to some so take that into consideration before you tune in! So today I'm going to start by saying a big, loud, resounding “ME TOO”! It's unsettling and heartbreaking to see how many people are coming out of the woodwork claiming that Harvey Wienstein has sexually harassed them in one way or another. As of the recording on this episode there are over 60 women who have stepped up. This coming on the heels of other recent highly publicized cases such as accusations against Bill O'Reilly, Bill Cosby and Roger Ailes. There are other well-known celebrities that have been accused as well that include Michael Jackson, Woody Allen, Brad Pitt, Mike Tyson and even Brittany Spears. Yes, folks. Men can be victims just as easily as women can be the perpetrators. Sexual harassment and sexual assault doesn't discriminate by age, race, gender, education or income level! According to a new ABC News / Washington Post Poll found that 54%, over half, of American women have experienced “unwanted and inappropriate sexual advances” at some point in their lives. 84% have reported being verbally harassed. Over 70% have been sexually harassed at work and 23% of those cases were by someone who had the ability to influence their careers. Sexual harassment happens whether you're on or off the job. And, unfortunately, this was the case for me as I've had several experiences with sexual harassment. In this episode, I take the opportunity to talk about my experiences - not to play the victim – but to raise awareness. I also talk about the initial – in the moment impact – of being harassed and the longer term effects of being a victim of sexual harassment. In this episode, Camille Roman talks about getting the devastating news that she has breast cancer. She talks about the challenge of having to grapple with the reality of what lies ahead. Camille talks about praying to God asking 'what do I do now'? As a result of her diagnosis, she realized that she had to make some major changes in her life. Being the victim, she'd carry a lot of negative feelings about herself, others and about life. She strongly feels that these negative emotions that consumed her as a child contributed to the fact that she had gotten breast cancer. In this episode, Yael Sunshine talks about her struggle being parent of two children that were addicted to drugs and how ashamed and helpless she felt. She explains the bind she was in because on one hand she was an enabler, trying to 'fix it' for her kids. On another hand, she knew she needed to make some really tough decisions in order to help them overcome the addiction. Ultimately, she had to kick her daughter out of her house in order to encourage her to get the help that she needed. She felt if she didn't do it, her daughter was going to die. Taking this very tough position, with a daughter that she loves very much, was extremely difficult for her. However, she knew it had to be done. Yael also talks about coming to the realization that she needed help too. She felt that her kids addiction to drugs was 'all her fault' and that she was a horrible parent. She explains how she was filled with so much self-blame and shame that it became debilitating. She realized that she can't control or fix her children. They had to do it themselves - just as she had to deal with what was coming up for her through this difficult time in her life. Yael describes her struggle with feelings of profound despair and helplessness. She finally decides to join Al-Anon, taking almost 2 years to get through the first step which includes admitting you are powerless. If you're going through something similar, or if you're an addict yourself, join some sort of support group, go for at least 90 days then decide what's next. She talks about the fighting, the tension, the make-ups and break-ups. She shares with us the pain she endured as she began to accept that her marriage was coming to an end. Through out her process she realizes that her marriage became a big part of her identity. She identified more of 'being a wife' than being Kate herself. She exposes her underbelly as she talks about this divorce leading to the image she had of herself being totally shattered. As a result of getting divorced she had to embark on a journey of self-exploration. In this episode, I talk about the 4 common limiting beliefs that sabotage your ability to be truly happy. These beliefs sabotage our ability to be happy because we've bought into them lock, stock and barrel! I talk about each one of them - what is the myth, how it keeps you stuck and what you can do to dispel them once and for all. I talk about how you can create a paradigm shift that will lead to genuine happiness. Myth 1: Happiness is a Natural State of Being Happiness isn't a natural state of being. In fact, statistics clearly dispel this with 10% of adults will attempt suicide, 1 in 5 will suffer from depression and 30% will suffer with some psychiatric disorders. Add to that issues of divorce, financial duress, stress, loneliness ... all of which prevent you from experiencing happiness all the time. In fact, it creates even more unhappiness because you think everyone else is happy except you which, ultimately, creates more unhappiness because you feel you don't measure up. Myth 2: If You're Not Happy, Something is Wrong with You Often, being unhappy is seen as a weakness - that somehow you're defective, weak or "less than". So when we inevitably experience painful thoughts and feelings, we often criticize ourselves for being weak or stupid. Nothing could be further from the truth! Your just human having normal life experiences that bring up a whole gamut of feelings ... happiness only being one of them. Myth 3: To Be Happy You Need to Avoid Negative Feelings So many of us strive to eliminate "negative" feelings and focus only on the "positive" ones. On the surface, it seems to make sense but the reality is, it's a trap we get stuck in. Inevitably, life is all about pleasant and unpleasant feelings. That's life! Even a great experience can bring about "negative" feelings. You may embark on a new project that you're excited about. Yet, at the same time, you may feel fear, stress and anxiety. P And when we refuse to allow the negative feelings we shut down a part of ourselves. Myth 4: You Need to Control What You Think and Feel The thinking here is that if you consciously replace your negative thoughts, images and feelings with positive ones then you'll find true happiness. Your negative thoughts will always come back. They may leave for a while, but they always come back until they are truly transformed from the inside out. I also talk about the definition of happiness because most people don't know what happiness really is! How can you possibly be happy if you don't even know what happiness really is?! In fact, this question is so common, in fact, that it is searched over 500K times on Google each and every month! This is unsettling for a few reasons. First, crazy to think how many people are truly UNhappy! Second, these poor people are searching the internet for suggestions on how they can be happy! This is a mistake I made too, so I guess I can't be too hard on these people. But what I discovered in my own search for happiness was that I will never find it on the internet! I will never find it in a book, by watching a movie, or from dancing in the rain! Why? Because I can't solve an internal issue by looking outside myself! If we're here on earth to learn, and we have this built-in desire to learn, then why do we resist learning so much? What is it about our personalities that causes us to defend against any new knowledge much less new life lessons? Late in our teenage years, we decide that we know everything we need to know. There isn't any more to learn. We are, in effect, "know it all's". We've all been there. Heck, maybe you're still there! Regardless, why is it that we get this way? Why do we stop embracing life and all of the amazing lessons that can be bestowed upon us along the way? In this episode, I talk about the fact that we are wounded warriors. Some where along the way, we came to believe that we are not good enough. That we are unworthy. That we are failures. Feeling this way brings about a great deal of pain ... pain that we don't want to feel.
