I am not going to lie, I am extra excited today, one because I’ve had way too much coffee and two, I have a dear friend of mine, Jena Rodriguez with me.She’s kicking ass in business and she’s just a soul sister kind of person. And during this mind-bending conversation we talk about ego, what it is, and some very amazing insights about EGO TRICKS. Especially now in the time of Covid.And in general, for simplistic purposes, ego is that “protect yourself” instinct, that reptilian part of us that is here to keep us alive. And that is turned on at unprecedented levels right now. We need to have that protection otherwise we would be aimlessly walking around this earth getting hit by buses.And this is getting pushed to the max right now and there are certain “ego tricks” that may prevent us from being triggered and becoming the BABY IN THE BACK SEAT. Listen in as we unpack this important concept.Jena and I also dive deep into BEING BRAVE and she reveals her bravery levels, including being brave by survival, by choice, and ultimately BRAVE BY PURPOSE.I believe wholeheartedly that unless bravery is coming from our purpose, people can read through it in a hot minute.When I say brave by purpose, it means that when we are looking through the lens of our choices and our decisions and our actions and our thinking and our beliefs it comes from within… This is not happening to us, it is happening for us.Jena says she hears people describe their fears and their concerns and their challenges as, “I have to do this and I have to do that and now we have to stay in and we have to do that…”Here’s the thing. 121: Tap in to Your "Brave" and Breakthrough to Your Next Level(s) with Jena Rodriquez This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Jena Rodriguez. Jena is a brand, business, and Brave strategist and the founder of Brave Masters – a firm committed to boosting brand clarity, growing profits, and helping business owners capitalize on the natural abilities. Jena’s personal story is pretty incredible. She went from bankrupt and over 700 thousand in debt to creating a million-dollar business. She’s gone on to help her clients do the same helping increase their revenues by upwards of 800% or more. And today, I’ve asked to come and share some of her best strategies and secrets of how you can take yourself to your next levels. www.Bravemasters.com www.Bravemasters.com/BraveFB As an entrepreneur, over a 12-year period, Jenna went from bankrupt to success. She was in corporate as a controller before starting her business. And as she says, she took a lot of risk in her first business by buying a storefront. She made $300k in her first year but was over $700k in debt. After a year, she ran into the problems of being to pay her rent, her employees. She either had to quit or get back up on the horse. She had to close the store and file bankruptcy. She was somewhat relieved but was not sure what to do next. She partnered with her husband on a business together and off they went. She learned some valuable things. First, what she truly wanted and didn’t want which was to be an employee, but to work for herself and create her true freedom. Her big decision was to “stay in the game.” Nowadays, she runs the business and her husband has his own business. She helps people to unleash their “brave” and help them to succeed in their business. What does it mean to be “Brave” and be a “Bravemaster?” You are willing to make the hard decisions You are willing to be uncomfortable You are willing to get up every day and do what it takes Say “yes” and then figure it out Facing life head on and creating it the way you want to create it. What holds people back the most from unleashing their “Bravemaster?” Self-awareness. Practicing observing your thoughts and actions on a daily basis and taking responsibility for it. People don’t take the time to become “hyper-aware” to when they are not brave. A lot of people let circumstances dictate their life and in order to become a bravemaster, you have to overcome this. How did you figure out the secret of self-awareness and control of your thoughts? Get help! Study books and those that have already figured it out Seek out mentors that have this understanding as a discipline and learn from them You can hear the concepts, but until you make the decision to act on things and make it part of your daily life discipline, you won’t truly get it. Get help where you need the most support. This is what high performers do. Remember, we don’t know what we don’t know. Bring the awareness to the conscious of your mind. You will learn that you will need to be forever a student and play the long game. Is there a BRAVE framework that you teach others? If so, can you share it? Belief in self/possibility Resilience Action Vulnerability Expansion Define how you will approach your days. Create it and take 100% responsibility. Be intentional. Reflect on the miracles at the end of the day and the production you’ve had. Things will not always go your way, but controlling your thoughts and being careful not to resist, but to persist is important. It is much more how you respond to the circumstance than the circumstance itself. At the 30 min mark, I ask Jena about her business. You’ve generated 100’s of thousands of dollar speaking from stage. How do you do that? She only started speaking from stage 5 years ago She took commitment and action to become a speaker She has released a course on what she did called the “Brave Speaker” She mastered the art of the structure of the talk: Where do you connect? Where do you offer content? How do you invite and convert them to more? Missteps people make is that they deliver a lot of content and don’t connect. The other part is to master the follow-up and follow through. The 4 C’s moving people to be able to decide: Capture – Getting their attention and owning the stage – getting people to engage Connect – This is all about story. Your “from…to” Content - Transition to what you are going to share/teach/present, etc. Convert – Bridging the gap and inviting them to your offer to solve the problem. “Imagine if…” Then you can give a fast action incentive… You teach “3 Simple Steps to Make Money in Your Business Now.” What are those 3 steps? Focus on getting visibility, getting leads from the visibility, and then having compelling conversations It is not about selling. It is about interviewing people, finding the right fit for you to help. You must be willing to get highly visible and market yourself What are the most important actions that people should be doing with their branding and branding? Brand is who you are and what you stand for. What are you transforming in the world. Branding is how you are sharing that Brand is step #1 and most people don’t focus there Brand integrity is very important – audit yourself throughout the year to ask yourself if you are being consistent in your branding. Are you hitting expectations? You must be consistent across all mediums of your brand   Best Quote: “WE make or break us. What do you do when the business you thought was the amalgamation of everything you loved, ends up drowning you in 700k worth of debt? For Jena Rodriguez, the decision to quit didn’t come easy. Jena started out from corporate America, ventured into fashion design and makeup artistry, then jumped into entrepreneurship in 2006. She took the leap of faith and bought a woman’s boutique and cosmetic franchise, which brought all of her interests together. She thought it was the best thing ever, until she found herself sitting in front of a bankruptcy attorney one year later. Even though she made multiple 6-figures, it wasn’t enough to keep her business afloat. She had to pull the plug. Today on the podcast she shares with us her entrepreneurial journey - from filing for bankruptcy, to working with her husband, to firing her husband, and eventually becoming the CEO of Brave Masters, Inc. Don’t forget to subscribe! ----- "I was $700,000 in debt" ----- She had to pull the trigger and call it quits, so she filed for bankruptcy on her first business. The next day, she had to choose: whether to quit and go back to the J-O-B and the comfort zone, or get back up and choose a new direction. She didn’t know what she was going to do, but what was clear was she didn’t want to work for someone else. Her husband at the time was a musician and ran a web and graphic design company. She became his partner and grew that business over the years, until she reached that point in 2012 when that no longer served her. She ended up firing her husband and rebranded the business as Brand with Jena. ----- "Entrepreneurship is not the easy way - it’s the brave way." ----- Being brave is absolutely part of who she is and has been a staple in everything she did since she was a child. She really started to recognize that conversation a couple of years ago when she was asking "What does it take to become an entrepreneur?" It was on another podcast that she said, "Entrepreneurship is not the easy way - it’s the brave way." That statement took a life of its own, and she realized that that was her underlying message, passion and purpose, which is to help people really realize their unrealized potential. Bravemasters is about being true and authentic to the brand that you are.   ----- The Marketing Mix ----- There are multiple ways to market, and she calls it "The Marketing Mix" - having the offline and the online going on simultaneously. We’re in such an amazing world where we can be online and reach all kinds of people that we wouldn’t have had access to before, and at the same time people want the human connection. In this episode, Jena Rodriguez talks about being bankrupt and stressed after finding herself deep in debt to the tune of $700K!  She was a successful corporate woman turned business owner. Leaving the security of a J.O.B. to follow her dream, Jena bought a boutique but it became more than she could handle, finding herself so deep in debt she had no choice but to declare bankruptcy. She realized she was afraid of being poor and not having enough her entire life. We discuss her ability to stay strong in spite of having a failed business and declaring bankruptcy.  Ultimately, she decided she needed to take responsibility,  figure out how she created this mess, break her patterns of self sabotage and do things differently going forward.  In this interview, she distinguishes between something being her responsibility" versus her fault and how this distinction helped her through this very challenging time in her life. After five years as a TV reporter and anchor all over the country, Maureen went into reality programming. This included being the first contestant on CBS's Power of Ten with Drew Carey, and in 2009 being a contestant on the reality show Solitary 3.0. While continuing to work in sales, Maureen branched out into modeling, acting, and writing. Maureen is currently the co-owner of NW Productions, a media and productions company that can produce Red Carpet events or reality shows
