As they say, better late than never. We are really busy with other non-related music works and are shortly getting ready to sell our property in Australia and business here before returning to the UK permanently. Just five bands and musicians are making their debut on Sequences. We hear about the new project by ex-Tangerine Dream member Johannes Schmoelling and sound design luminary Kurt Ader! With their second album, Hydragate, s475e, which composes and produces electronic music combining ambient and “classical” electronic music with progressive elements. The unusually named seven-piece band Godspeed You Black Emperor uses guitars, violins, drums, glockenspiel, etc.; their album is about all of us waiting for the end. Giants of Discovery is a UK electronic artist of Victorian cosmic horror, Greek mythology, and modular soundscapes, with Alex Bell's contribution to Tone Science no 9, polyrhythmic synth sequences dancing in spring reverb tape echo and modern glitches. 116. More Than A Run - Running for Mental Health We were We were lucky enough to have the two ‘[mo]re than a run' Founders on today Alex Bell and Olly Woolrych to chat about what's going down this Movemeber. It was a chat about men's mental health, the power of running community, starting conversations and making real impact. We loved having the boys on! We learnt all about the origins of this community lead initiative, the power of like minded runners coming together and how we can get involved. Olly and Alex believe running can be a vehicle for extraordinary positive change, whether that's improving mental health, starting conversations, as well as, raising awareness and funds for both mental health and suicide prevention. ‘[mo]re than a run' is a decentralised running event that brings together running clubs all over Australia and NZ to chat about mental health, foster deep connection and raise funds for Movember. Alex and Olly have a vision to unite and elevate the running community globally, harnessing our shared love for running to empower participants and support mental health. Over the last two years ‘[mo]re then a run' has raised over 1.4million for Movemeber, with over 4000 participants and over 300 run clubs. It's incredible to see what happens when us runners get together for a meaningful cause. Don't go chipping any dolls out of the plaster in your cellar, creepy kids, or open any ouija board apps! And definitely don't go and hunt your woebegotten cousin's ghost on a rainy Scottish island! It's not worth it! In this episode Ren Wednesday and Adam Whybray discuss the 2015 Young Adult novel Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell, a grisly book about creepy dolls and the people they torment. Digressions include ghost hunting, bat detecting and late-era Simpsons. Content note: This book contains strong violence that we outline, injury details and a suicide mention. And Singapore, which seems to be bucking the trend, with demand as high as ever. In this episode, we are discussing innovation and inclusivity in entrepreneurship with Ethan Poskanzer.Ethan is an Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the Leeds School of Business, and studies how organizations can select and connect people to develop innovative ideas and how the opportunity to innovate can be democratized and made more inclusive.Host Amanda Kramer sits down with Ethan to discuss his latest research: the science behind matching entrepreneurs and mentors, some striking data in how gender factors into mentor/mentee relationships, and what we can learn from pitch evaluation & sequencing.Leeds Business Insights Podcast is a production of Leeds School of Business and is produced by University FM.EPISODE QUOTES:Why do entrepreneurs need to stick to their convictions?[00:07:38] One thing that I would encourage entrepreneurs to do is stick to their convictions about what they need help with and to reach out to people who they think can help them, because they know what's going on under the hood more than other people do.Gender differences in funding referrals[00:17:42] Women mentors are about equally likely to make a referral for a man, entrepreneur, or a woman entrepreneur. But men mentors were much more likely to make referrals for men. So that meant that through those same-gender relationships, men had greater access to this super coveted resource of introductions to investors and the opportunity to pitch their businesses for funding.Something to keep in mind in the entrepreneurial process[00:24:31] That's something important to keep in mind that an organization is designing a process to select new ideas to fund an investment that you think of. We need to be really careful about defining the criteria that we're going to use to select this. But for Dr Natalie Kenny, founder of international lab testing and medical training firm BioGrad, it's proved true in every aspect of life. It's been a whirlwind ride: from growing up in a working-class family in Liverpool, England, to battling tropical diseases in the Amazonian rainforest, and losing almost everything before going on to found a multi-million dollar business. In this episode of Business Daily, she sits down with Alex Bell to reflect on a remarkable life in science, discussing the pharmaceutical industry, gender equality in the laboratory, and being on the frontlines of the Covid pandemic. as well as the personal tests she's had to overcome.
