In this episode, we sit down with Andrea Lewis, a former prosecutor turned civil litigator, to explore her fascinating journey through the legal world. Andrea reflects on her time at Florida State University, where a "fluke" encounter with the mock trial team ignited her passion for trial work, ultimately leading her to the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office. As a felony prosecutor and deputy chief of the county court, she dealt with some of the most challenging cases involving sexual assault and abuse. Now, Andrea represents survivors of these traumatic events on the civil side at Searcy Denny, helping them navigate the complexities of recovery and justice. Andrea candidly shares the emotional toll of working on such sensitive cases, especially as a mother, and how she balances her career with family life. She also reflects on the importance of following one's passion, the need for mentorship, and why embracing challenges and failures has been instrumental in shaping her career. Tune in for an insightful conversation about resilience, justice, and finding purpose in adversity. Takeaways: Engaging in activities like mock trial can unexpectedly ignite a deep passion, shaping one's professional journey and leading to fulfilling career choices.Handling emotionally challenging cases requires effective compartmentalization to ensure that work-related stress does not adversely affect personal relationships and well-being.Seeking guidance from mentors and actively participating in professional organizations can provide invaluable support, foster career growth, and create meaningful networking opportunities.Overcoming professional challenges and personal setbacks builds resilience, enhancing the ability to support and advocate for others more effectively in the long run.Maintaining personal health and well-being, including setting boundaries and avoiding unhealthy habits, is crucial for sustained professional success and personal fulfillment.Taking initiative to create positive changes within professional environments, such as establishing health and wellness committees, can lead to a more supportive and effective community.Embracing one's unique strengths and staying true to personal values leads to greater satisfaction and success, both professionally and personally.

Today I'm talking about Suede magazine – a magazine that came and went in a blaze of glory in the early 2000s but gave us just 4 issues. The reason I'm talking about Suede is because while we only got 4 issues, that magazine absolutely became a new fashion bible for black women, women of colour, actually women of all skin colours. In this episode I share more on Suede's history inaugural issue, the team who made it happen and the huge impact the magazine had on black women and women of colour. I discuss the rumours surrounding the magazine's demise and I share an update I received via email from the magazine's former editor Suzanne Boyd. Don't forget my DMs are always open, so if you'd like to share an insight re Suede magazine, or anything else beauty related, find me @beautymepodcast on Instagram or @charisse_kenion on Threads.

The Darling Buds were another one of those excellent British alternative bands of the late 80s/early 90s that was sadly short lived. Three strong albums in four years and then nothing for a long time. People listening to college radio or scouring records stores around that time would know them well. Thankfully, the band is back with an incredible box set, Killing For Love, Albums, Singles, Rarities, Unreleased 1987-2017, just released by Cherry Red Records (they're so good at this stuff). Andrea Lewis and Matt Gray join us to share stories for the journey like the impact of having John Peel as a fan, doing Top of the Pops, moving to the US, and more. It's good to say this great band is getting what they deserve. www.thedarlingbuds.org www.patreon.com/thehustlepod

Welcome to my last episode of the year, beautiful people! I know this may be disappointing for some of you but your girl needs to fill her cup. Throughout these first two seasons, I've talked to countless women about the power of the pause but if I'm honest, I haven't taken one for myself and it's time. I don't have an exact return date but when I do come back to the mic the timing will be divine, so I thank you all for listening, for sharing, and being a part of this community of Black women founders, creators, and innovators. This week on the She Did That. Podcast, I'm in conversation with Andrea Lewis. You may know her from her acting roles in Degassi: The Next Generation or Black Actress but today, I'm talking to the Ontario, Canada native about her latest role as the creator and executive producer of The Black Beauty Effect. The three-part, first-of-its kind docuseries examines the Black women who are serving as catalysts for social change within the beauty industry and premieres exclusively on Black Experience on Xfinity this week on November 25th. P.S. It's not too late to join us for the She Did That. Holiday Bazaar in NYC on December 3rd. Get your tickets today at shedidthatholidaynyc.eventbrite.com! Produced by Dear Media
English pop had gone through another musical enhancement in the early 90's. New bands were following the lead of Iris band My Bloody Valentine by emulating their dense guitar sounds generated by their array of effect pedals that they constantly employed. Musicians would look down on to their pedalboards and utilize every conceivable effect they could add to a song. The result was an intense audio sound with a wash of sonic enhancement to the music. The musicians constantly looked down to their pedalboards as they pressed down on their many available effects. They didn't attempt to engage with the audience in any meaningful way. They kept looking down on the floor and they didn't bother to be showmen on stage. The sound was the thing along with the atmosphherics the pedals created. The English press sarcastically dubbed this the "Shoegaze movement. Here in America it was referenced as "Dream Pop". Many bands updated their sound to include elements of Shoegaze and two distinct bands released albums that were heavily influenced by the new sound. 30 years ago in 1992, the band Lush released "Gala" and "Spooky" that further defined the genre. The Darling Buds released their album "Erotica" and expanded on the critical and commercial fortunes of the new sound. We will be listening to these two great bands that alternated between heavy guitar sounds and gentle melodic and ethereal sounds. Emmeline Anthony is a student at Somerset College and performed this story as part of Storyfest 2020. Her story 'When This Becomes Enough' tackles an issue I know I felt when I was in my teens. Why go outside when I am totally comfortable inside my room? My perfectly safe space. I asked Emmeline, if her story was a song, what would the lyrics be? I then used her lysics to write the song in this episode. Thanks so much to Andrea Lewis and the Storyfest team and to all the staff and students at Somerset College on the Gold Coast. And thank you Emmeline for writing and performing this story for us. Thanks also to Jake Morton for the beats and samples and to Somerset students, Aleeza Tariq and Riddhi Athota for the introductions. I hope you enjoy.
Ayla Chirathivat-Geralds loves the world and when the pandemic hit in 2020, she knew that she would not be going on an aeroplane for quite some time. But luckily for her she discovered that the place she calls home is a pretty wonderful place. This Stories in the Key of GC performance was presented at Somerset Storyfest 2022 held at the wonderful Somerset College on the Gold Coast. Thanks so much to Andrea Lewis and the Storyfest team for having us and especially to Ayla for writing and performing her story for this event. Thanks also to Jake Morton for running the sound design whilst I played the piano and to Somerset students, Aleeza Tariq and Riddhi Athota for the introductions.
Revenge of the Black Best Friend is a brand new CBC Gem original comedy series from award-winning playwright, host, producer, and CBC personality Amanda Parris, puts a spotlight – and surreal twist – on the familiar tropes, stereotypes and typecasting that's been forced on Black actors. The entire six-part series debuted on the free CBC Gem streaming service on Thursday, March 31, 2022. It also had its international premiere as an official selection in the Short Form competition at the prestigious Cannes International Series Festival (Canneseries) April 1-6, 2022. From dismissed divas to sidelined superheroes, the series follows Dr. Toni Shakur (played by The Porter's Oluniké Adeliyi), a self-help guru whose mission is to cancel the entertainment industry's reliance on token Black characters…that is before she gets cancelled herself. This highly irreverent series is partially inspired by Robert Townsend's iconic ‘80s spoof Hollywood Shuffle, and is in the spirit of contemporary offerings like Atlanta, Random Acts of Flyness and Sorry to Bother You. Revenge of the Black Best Friend is directed by Thyrone Tommy, Ian Keteku and Jerome Kruin. Motion (Co-Executive Producer, Writer) and Julian De Zotti (Executive Producer) are also part of the production team. It stars Oluniké Adeliyi, Cara Ricketts, Araya Mengesha, Dwain Murphy, Ashton James, Julian De Zotti and Jenny Young with special appearances from Andrea Lewis, Tyrone Edwards and Mark Strong. Recently, we spoke with Olunike Adeliyi (Dr. Toni Shakur), Ashton James, Ian Keteku and Jerome Kruin from the show. During our conversation, they talked about: – How did they get involved in the project – What drove them to this project – Olunike's character – How was their first day on set like – Could they relate with personal experiences while working on this series – A special moment you had during the production – Their message to melanate and non-melanated people You can find out more information about Revenge of the Black Best Friend via: Twitter Instagram Hashtags: #RBBF #revengebbf Visit The Dr. Vibe Show™ at https://www.thedrvibeshow.com/ Please feel free to email us at dr.vibe@thedrvibeshow.com Subscribe to The Dr. Vibe Show™ YouTube channel here Please feel free to “Like” the “The Dr. Vibe Show” Facebook Fan Page here God bless, peace, be well and keep the faith, Dr. Vibe 2020 Podcast News Award Winner – Canadian Ethnic Media Association 2018 Innovation Award Winner – Canadian Ethnic Media Association The Dr. Vibe Show™ At “The Good Men Project” One of the first Brand Ambassador's – Cuisine Noir Magazine Dr. Vibe on HuffPost Live – August 2, 2013 2013 Black Weblog Awards Finalist (Best Podcast) 2012 Black Weblog Awards Winner (Best International Blog) 2012 Black Weblog Awards Finalist (Best Podcast) 2011 Black Weblog Awards Finalist (Best International Blog and Best Podcast Series) Black Blog Of The Day – Black Bloggers Network – June 23, 2011 Twitter Twitter hashtag: #DrVibe The Dr. Vibe Show™ – iTunes The Dr. Vibe Show™ – Spotify Dr. Vibe Media – You Tube The Dr. Vibe Show™ – Stitcher Radio The Dr. Vibe Show™ – TuneIn Radio The Dr. Vibe Show™ – Google Podcasts The Dr. Vibe Show™ – iHeartRadio The Dr. Vibe Show™ at Anchor Linkedin – The Dr. Vibe Show™ Instagram The Dr. Vibe Show Facebook Fan Page

This episode we're joined by YouTube star and host of The Clip Breakdown, Nick DiRamio! While doing research for our previous episode with Degrassi's Andrea Lewis, I discovered Nick's very opinionated recap of Disney Channel's Cadet Kelly, and realized I enjoyed his take on the film more than the actual movie. This led to a laugh-filled marathon of The Clip Breakdown, where he recaps and unpacks some of our favorite T.V. and cult classic movies. If you're a 90's / 2000's kid, Nick's YouTube channel AND this podcast episode are Just For You!Follow Nick DiRamio on Instagram @NickDiRamio, Subscribe to The Clip Breakdown on YouTube and keep up with his merch and Patreon at NickDiram.io/Follow Wayne Holtz on Instagram at @WayneHoltz_ and @TheWayneHoltzPodcastFollow Wayne Holtz on Twitter at @WayneHoltzThis episode was produced and engineered by Nicholas PacheoThe music in this episode is from Wayne Holtz's discography produced by Bobby RivasMake sure to SUBSCRIBE, RATE & REVIEW on Itunes (Apple Podcasts) and follow and listen on Spotify!
