The Volkswagen Atlas joined the VW roster for 2018 and gave the company the ever-important mid-size SUV. Expanding on the Atlas, Volkswagen added the Cross Sport variant of its MQB-based crossover, which put the company's hat in the ring of the crossover coupe argument. After five years on the road, Volkswagen overhauled both versions of the Atlas. While these updates do come with some interesting new hardware, there is one downside for some: Volkswagen ditched the VR6. That means powering every Atlas Cross Sport is the 2.0-liter EA888 Evo 4 mill, which shoves 269 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed transmission.  On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport and puts it through its paces. Wren takes you along on a guided tour of the '24 Atlas Cross Sport and highlights some of his favorite features before taking you along on a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Autoweek's Patrick Carone about the Atlas Cross Sport, crossover coupes, and more. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the Atlas Cross Sport Special

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 combines old-school components like a normally aspirated high-displacement V8 engine with specialized off-road tech to create a commonsense premium all-terrain truck. This past week America on the Road Co-Host Chris Teague had the opportunity to put the Silverado ZR2 through a grueling series of tests in the midst of the Maine winter. We're freezing just thinking about it. But what he discovered is worth knowing, and he'll reveal it all and a little more in this edition of America on the Road. Meanwhile, across the country, Host Jack Nerad road tested one of the darlings of the car tester set —the 2023 Mazda CX-5 Turbo. Crossovers don't usually get much respect from vehicle critics, but the exception is the CX-5. After an informative week behind the wheel of the newest CX-5, Nerad will tell what he found. Does the CX-5 deserve its “favorite son” status? Our special guest this week is extremely knowledgeable about the heavily revised 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. Brian Wallace is a Volkswagen product planner and vehicle expert. Host Jack Nerad caught up with him at the Chicago Auto Show for a lengthy interview on the fraternal twins that bring a lot of new stuff to the midsize SUV party. In the news this week, a new study shows that the total ownership cost of an electric car is near that of a conventional internal combustion vehicle but dealers are having a tough time getting customers to do the math. We'll have details and our thoughts on all that coming up in this episode. Also in the news, a well-regarded sports car brand from the past might soon see a revival in the United States. We'll tell you what that brand is and have more on that story coming up too. Finally, the Biden Administration's new rules on the national EV charging network could drastically change the way Tesla does business. We'll have the details on that and what it could mean to you and your family coming up.

It's Thursday 28th  April, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. VW SAID TO CONSIDER BUILDING ID. BUZZ, ELECTRIC PICKUP IN THE US - Ever since Volkswagen unveiled the ID. Buzz in early March, the automaker constantly had to answer questions regarding the possibility that the electric van will also be made in the United States. - reports claim that Volkswagen is considering an expansion of its Chattanooga plant in Tennessee. A source close to the matter told Reuters that the automaker plans to build an electric pickup and the ID. Buzz at the new facility. - VW has not confirmed plans for an electric pickup yet, although VW Group CEO Herbert Diess and VW of America CEO Scott Keogh have vaguely hinted at such plans. - The report ties in with another one from Germany's Manager Magazin from earlier today. The publication wrote that Volkswagen was planning to build a second production plant in the US that would increase its annual capacity to up to 600,000 vehicles. - VW Group announced on March 21 that it plans to invest at least $7.1 billion in North America over the next five years. Combined with existing production for VW's Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport, the Chattanooga plant would essentially be maxed out. - The report also states that VW is considering a battery plant near the Chattanooga plant(s) as well. - According to VW exec Scott Keogh, the company's current plan is to source its EV battery cells from  SK Innovation at the new $2.6 billion factory it is building in Georgia. In terms of a potential US battery plant, Keogh said VW will need units. The partnership aims to rapidly building a fast charging network across Europe by 2024. - The roll-out will feature Volkswagen's Flexpole 150kW charging units, each of which feature two charge points, and an integrated battery storage system. - The Flexpole units can be directly connected to a low voltage grid which removes the requirement for a dedicated substation and costly construction work, while providing fast charging speeds of up to 150kW - The first phase of the roll-out will see up to an additional 4,000 charge points at bp's Aral retail sites in Germany and bp retail sites in the UK over the next 24 months. - bp's charging network will be integrated into Volkswagen, ŠKODA and Seat/Cupra in-car dashboards ensuring drivers can find their nearest charger seamlessly. The trucks will be among 50,000 Next Generation Delivery Vehicles from Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Corp. - Maloney referred to a Government Accountability Office report released Tuesday. The congressional watchdog said the postal service used a gas price that is almost $2 per gallon less than the current national average price of gas. - The Postal Service is moving forward over objections of the Biden administration with its $6 billion plan to purchase as many as 165,000 mail trucks over the next 10 years, with up to 90% of those running on gasoline instead of more climate-friendly batteries. this week's episode tackles the thorny subject of Volkswagon's 2020 three-part series of television commercials for the Atlas Cross Sport (21 mpg city, 24 mpg highway).  The ad agency tapped Paul Giamatti and Kieran Culkin to play parts  designed to not so loosely recall their current roles on “Billions” and “Succession” respectively, thus causing confusion on the part of viewers who would prefer not to watch either show out of sequence. Also curious is VW's decision to scrap the 3rd commercial in the trilogy, leaving us to wonder how the story is resolved (perhaps a class action suit on the part of Atlas Cross Sport owners because the key fob disables their home alarm systems). In any event, I'm sure you will agree this is a fascinating topic and I've done my best to get deep into the details, as deep as I could manage on the periphery of 2 + hours of music , anyway.

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is a midsize SUV.  But it joins its slightly larger sibling, the VW Atlas in the midsize SUV category. Here's the deal.  Atlas Cross Sport is a 2-row whereas the larger VW Atlas is a 3-row.  The differences pretty much start and stop there. So if you have kids at home go with the Atlas.  And if you don't you'll probably opt for the Atlas Cross Sport.  Because it's a bit sleeker, sportier, and even more European-looking. However, you cannot go wrong either way.  Because both the Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport are great overall values. ✅  Test drive Atlas Cross Sport midsize SUV at Southern California's Volkswagen HQ –> Ontario Volkswagen. 2021 VW Atlas Cross Sport Top-3: Overall value. 2020 Volkswagen Atlas The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas is technically a midsize crossover SUV.  But one could argue it belongs in the full-size category as it has three rows of seating. Additionally, it's the largest crossover SUV that VW offers.  And it's big and roomy inside with room for adults in each row of seating.  Plus Atlas offers plenty of cargo space and impressive tech. 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Top-3: Exterior design Interior space Fuel economy Personally, I've been a big fan of Atlas since it's debut in 20180.  It's great for families without being too big.  So I recently picked-up an Atlas from my friends at Ontario VW for this review. -->Continue reading or click play below to listen.

2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Reveal The first look I got at the 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport was at the LA Auto Show.  While SoCal Volkswagen dealers will have it in the Spring of 2020. And at first glance, the new edition to VW's crossover SUV lineup looks much like it's bigger sibling, the Atlas with 3-rows of seating. But once you give it a little more attention the enhanced sportiness of the aptly named Cross Sport is definitely appreciated.  And Cross Sport will seat up to 5. Personally, my mind drew a parallel the sibling Volkswagens (Atlas and Cross Sport) and another set of siblings.  That's the luxury and way-way more expensive Land Rovers (Range Rover Sport and Velar). And my friend Randy Halcomb at Ontario Volkswagen says that's significant.  Because "it highlights Volkswagen's innate ability to pack ridiculous value (and prestige) into its affordable-to-everyone products." -->Continue reading or click play below to listen.

Volkswagen Off-Road – America’s SUV Love Drives Lineup

Volkswagen Off-Road Volkswagen off-road is a phrase we haven't heard much of for years. Not since the Meyers Manx dune buggies were created from Beetles has VW really been associated with off-roading. But that's changing thanks to Americans' love affair with crossover SUVs.  Because of that Volkswagen has recently spruced up and added to its crossover SUV lineup. So, 2020 brings three Volkswagen off-road / crossover SUV options. There's the compact Tiguan which is in its second generation.  It has an optional 3rd row of seating.  But it's mainly for smaller humans. :0) Plus, the Atlas Cross Sport which is a 5-seat midsize new entry to the lineup.  It will soon be available at Southern California Volkswagen Dealers. And the Volkswagen Atlas, which arguably bumps up to full-size status with the entry of the Atlas Cross Sport.  Because it's a 3-row 7-plus seater that VW just added to its lineup in 2018. Now, are all of these Volkswagen's off-road-ready?  While not in a dedicated off-highway vehicle sense (OHV), it really depends on your degree of off-road-mindedness. And following Volkswagen's off-road trend, my friends at Ontario VW recently danced-up this Atlas. -->Continue reading or click play below to listen.
