1985 starts the Famicom on some familiar footing with a couple of future Black Box releases (one great, one meh); two shooters previously seen on SG-1000; and a Commodore 64 conversion from Hudson that would show up on NES under the aegis of its original publisher. No big surprises here (including the apparent Nintendo debut of TOSE, and the fact that the games previously seen on SG-1000 fare a lot better on Famicom), but that won't be the case for long. By the midpoint of 1985, the Famicom library will look wildly different from the NES's as more third parties (and, specifically, more third parties of wildly variable quality) stake their claim on NES. We're going all the way back to 1985 this week. The NES has just hit North America, and while everyones obsessed with Mario and trying to figure out which fucking castle that princess is hiding in, they're also hunting ducks. And then failing. And then getting laughed at by a digital dog. And then shooting said dog to no affect. Let's talk Duck Hunt. Admittedly, I was a little nervous this episode would be kinda boring, but I think we pulled a gem outta the bushes here. Tijdens het spelen van ditzelfde spel gooide Steef zijn 3DS stuk (12:12), genoeg tijd dus om Hudson Soft's schaamteloze Zelda-kloon Neutopia (14:15) te spelen op de PC Engine. Zowel Steef als Niels waren aanwezig op een barbecue waar eerstgenoemde meedeed aan een competitie (19:29) waarin hij zijn vaardigheden moest bewijzen in Excitebike, Balloon Fight en Bomberman 2. Niels had op diezelfde barbecue maar heel even gegamed, voornamelijk heeft hij mee zitten kijken naar de vorig jaar verschenen Battle Kid 2 op de NES (21:30) en daarnaast de Zelda II rom-hack Shadow of Night (24:16). 00:27:04 - SEGA Van het vaste Button Bashers dietal heeft Steef verreweg het meest met SEGA en dat is reden genoeg om hem te laten hosten. Wat hadden de Button Bashers vroeger en nu met SEGA en wat waren destijds de meest kenmerkende verschillen tussen Nintendo en SEGA? Uiteraard passeren de systemen de revue, inclusief de Mega Drive expansions de Mega CD en 32X (43:02). Verder ook de Saturn (45:19) waar men het over eens was dat er toch leuke spellen op uitgekomen zijn, en de Dreamcast (52:39) oftewel het opstappunt voor zowel Steef als Michael als het ging om SEGA consoles; tot op vandaag de dag nog Steef's favoriete console aller tijden die helaas vroeg ten onder ging onder andere vanwege piracy (1:08:38). Verder; als SEGA nog consoles zou maken hoe zou hun nieuwe console er dan uit komen te zien (1:11:50)?
