"Okay, Dungeons and Dragons", "Okay, Pet Detective." This movie is chock full of hilarious lines and asides that elevate it way above most of the offerings we've been seeing lately. We don't usually know the names of the lead actors unless we've seen them a lot and either love or hate them. In this case we can confidently say Andrew Walker, Paul Campbell, and Tyler Hynes (the love of Beth's Hallmark life), are absolute perfection. Three hot, hilarious men with chemistry galore. Watch this movie. Watch the sequel. Beg for more. This is Hallmark perfection.Also. Writers matter. Who writes the movie matters. If you love a movie on Hallmark (or anywhere) it's worth looking up their whole library. In this case, this delight was written by Paul Campbell and Kimberly Sustad, who also penned the pretty hilarious Christmas by Starlight. We need more of this! There are smart, funny, innovative writers out here, all over. Millions. Hallmark, please stop padding the schedule with boring fluff with plot holes that could serve as train tunnels. Hire some fresh thinkers! Or just have Kimberly and Paul write everything. That would work too. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Mark helps Pet Detective Jones to catch the dog Thief's Written by Alex
Wilmington, North Carolina-based alltheprettythings has combined musicians from bands you might know to make music you would not expect. The multitude of styles and influences that go into these songs will change the way you look at rock music. Anthemic tracks dominate their body of work. “Teenage Lines” soaring sonics and vocal urgency contrasts in some ways with the warm, familiar nature of “Careful Girls (Little Love)” but both have a signature complexity that marks the band's music. Vocalist, Logan Tabor (Mood Mechanics) assembles his lyrics using past and present thoughts from a book of phrases he has fancied over the years – some were random thoughts and some pieces of songs that would never be. In their combination, he imbues them with new, deeper meaning. The intensity of each of the songs is buoyed by his dynamic, versatile performance style. Scottish-Born, South African-raised and San Antonio, TX-based guitarist Tristan Matthew (Newlands, touring bassist for Chiodos) discerns what to contribute to a song through contemplation. The song speaks to him – tells him what it needs. His inspiration transforms the song giving it the right mix of subtlety and presence. The affable Jeremy Bryan (Alesana) on drums enthusiastically supports his bandmates' songwriting efforts. “We all seem to intuitively understand what direction the songs want to go, so we help them get there,” he says. His work ethic (collaborating while on tour) combined with his belief in the talent of Logan, Worth and Tristan moves the project forward in the most positive of directions. For Worth Weaver (producer and touring guitarist for He Is Legend, Thousand Foot Krutch), recording is more of a ‘scientific' endeavor. The alchemy that happens in his studio transforms the parts his bandmates send him and that he records, making them into a seamless whole. Worth makes it all fit – pushing out the boundaries of the songs to make room for some serious innovation. Some bass tracks were recorded by the band's original bassist, James Weaver (Worth's brother who passed in 2020) and the resulting EP will be dedicated to his memory. The four members are currently in talks with a notable bassist to carry the torch for future recordings and tours. What keeps the band inspired is their friendship and like-minded senses of humor. While recording, band members named unfinished songs after lines from their shared favorite movies. From Ace Ventura, Pet Detective to That Thing You Do!, the members grew up with so many of the same cultural references that made their way into their jokes and – more importantly - their music. For the members of alltheprettythings this journey is one of friends that are family and keeping the creative process enjoyable for them – and the listener!#interview #newmusic #newartist #heislegend #thrice #blessthefall

Most estimates say that the number of lost pets each year is roughly 10 million. One in every three pets will be lost at some point. These staggering statistics are more than just numbers on a page - each one is a pet with a loving family desperate to find them and bring them home safely. Unfortunately, the number of lost pets in shelters which make it home is very low. The number of lost dogs getting home has improved in the last few years, but the odds of a lost owned cat in a shelter being reunited with its owner is just 2%. This week we're focusing on lost cats and how we can improve our strategies to get more of them back home. We spoke with someone who has helped thousands of cats get home, Pet Detective Kim Freeman To learn more about Kim, check out her website: https://www.lostcatfinder.com/ (lostcatfinder.com) You can find resources related to this episode on The Best Friends Podcast website: https://network.bestfriends.org/proven-strategies/best-friends-podcast/best-friends-podcast-ep-107 (network.bestfriends.org/proven-strategies/best-friends-podcast/best-friends-podcast-ep-107)
“It's important for TNR groups who trap cats to realize the same “feral” behavior you see in [true] ferals, may be a sign of a scared cat and not necessarily a feral cat.” This episode is sponsored in part by Humane Network, Buzz to the Rescues, and Maddie's Fund. Stacy talks to Kat Albrecht-Thiessen, a police detective turned pet detective and the founder/director of The Missing Animal Response Network. Since 1997, Kat has worked with search dogs trained to find lost pets and is widely known as the leading authority on lost pet behavior and pet detective training. Kat has authored two books, “Pet Tracker: The Amazing Story of Rachel the K-9 Pet Detective” and “Dog Detectives: How to Train Your Dog to Find Lost Pets”. Kat talks about how she transitioned from police detective to pet detective. She had previous training in search management as part of search and rescue and found that many of the techniques for finding lost people can be applied to finding lost pets. Kat also has a blog that dispels myths about what to do if your pet is lost, for example, putting out a cat's litter box to help bring the cat home (a myth). Finding a lost cat takes a lot of work by the owner including getting neighbors' permission to search their property (and not just handing them a flier and asking them to look) and that looking for a lost pet “gets you familiar with your neighbors and community.” Kat takes a closer look at the behavior of lost pets and how even pets that are outgoing and friendly with their owners, act differently when lost outside the home. She feels that more cats could be found if owners knew what to do and she stresses the “need to educate people in the proper things to do when a cat is lost.” She describes the “difference between how an indoor-only cat behaves when they are lost versus an outdoor access cat”, how they are often hiding close to their home, and the differences between the time frame for recovery of a cat that accidentally escapes and a cat that escapes and is injured. Kat and Stacy briefly discuss the training of pet detectives, and how there is a need for pet owners to be trained, even if they are not going to work as pet detectives. Kat talks about what a cat recovery team consists of and what they will do for the owner if they are hired. She mentions how some TNR groups may accidentally trap a lost cat because it may be exhibiting “feral” behavior and how it's important to start a search for a lost cat within 24 hours and not treat indoor/outdoor cats differently based on past experiences with wandering. Kat thinks that microchips are important and explains how they work and repeats what to do within the first 24 hours to successfully recover a lost cat. Do you see yourself as an investigator? What about an educator and writer? We think you should, and Arden Moore agrees. Arden has a lifetime of not only educating but also communicating difficult topics, and encourages us to take those seriously. She shares how to ask good questions, and how the right question can save you time. She also gives tips on writing and the importance of self-editing what we create. Topics on this episode: * Asking good questions * Think like a first responder * Your role as an educator * Getting better at writing *Main take away: *As an educator, it's ok to admit when you don't know something. Research the topic and come back with a better answer. About our guest: Arden grew up in a Brady Bunch-like family in a town called Crown Point located near Chicago in Northwest Indiana. During her first year in high school, she cajoled the editor of the local weekly newspaper into hiring her to be a sports writer. As a corn-fed Hoosier, she valued her Midwest roots, but knew she needed to experience other places. Her insatiable curiosity led to spending the next 20 years chasing stories as a reporter and editor for daily newspapers in Indiana and Florida. This is where Arden honed her amazing interviewing and writing skills! From there, she entered the publishing world at the family-owned Rodale Press. At Rodale, her “day job” was senior health writer for the book division, but she also moonlighted as a writer for their new magazine called Pets: Part of the Family. That is where Arden realized that she could tap her love of writing and interviewing to help people become healthier, and to tout the power of her other lifelong passion, pets. Pets and people — that's what Arden is all about. Fast forward to today, and Arden has done just that, in her trademark edu-taining style. Today, Arden happily shares her home in Dallas with her wife, Julie, and their furry Brady Bunch of three cats, three dogs and an overworked vacuum cleaner. *Links: * www.ardenmoore.com www.petfirstaid4u.com www.propethero.com www.catvets.com www.fearfreehappyhomes.com American kennel club: https://www.akc.org Cat Fancier Association: https://www.cfa.org American Vet Medical Association: https://www.avma.org Full show notes and transcript (https://www.petsitterconfessional.com/episodes/240)
