Today, Fan Effect explores “What’s your favorite fandom?” with KSL Newsradio's Becky Bruce and Heather Kelly. With the TARDIS launching a new “Doctor Who” on DisneyPlus in May 2024, it's the perfect time to explore The Doctor’s 60-year-plus history, where to start watching, and what you need to know to start your journey as a Whovian. Or, if you are already familiar with this fandom, how can you get others into it? While we minimize spoilers, producer KellieAnn was instructed to watch the following episodes in this order before recording, which offered a great way to enter the fandom: "Blink", “Christmas Invasion,” “The Girl in the Fireplace,” and “The Unquiet Dead.” The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisodes taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. Based in the beautiful beehive state, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen. Listen regularly on your favorite platform, at kslnewsradio.com, kslpodcasts.com, or on the KSL NewsRadio App. Join the conversation and get the latest 'nerdly' news on Facebook @FanEffectShow. When Jorge Benvenuto sat down to write a letter to the family of the boy he'd shot to death as a teenager, he had no idea the chain of events that would follow. When he penned his apology alone in a prison cell, he never imagined that it would lead to him hugging the mother of that young man. Nor did he have any inkling about the many ways the letter would reverberate through his own life - and the lives of his family members. The Letter opened a pathway for the parents of Zachary Snarr to push for his release. The Letter is a new original true crime podcast hosted by award-winning journalist Amy Donaldson. This 8-part narrative series tells the story of the brutal murder of Zachary Snarr, which took place in Salt Lake City, UT, on August 28, 1996. The Letter weaves a story of forgiveness, guilt, and what happens after the headlines die down and the real story begins. On Zach Snarr's last day alive, he got up early to help his father at work, he cleaned the kitchen for his mother and he made his sister laugh. But on August 28, 1996, the 18-year-old never came home from his date with Yvette Rodier at a reservoir outside of Salt Lake City. Instead, two police officers and a chaplain came to ring the bell. It was every parent's nightmare, a devastating loss that rocked a community and shattered lives. But Zach's mother, Sy Snarr, finds hope from a most unlikely place and it comes in the form of a weekly phone call. Get more information and photos on our website, theletterpodcast.com. Nine years after Susan Powell vanished from her West Valley City, Utah home, more than a terabyte of data from her husband and his father's digital devices remains encrypted -- and therefore unknown to police. But much of what we do know about the case from the top-rated podcast, Cold, comes from data seized from those machines. The FBI has 16 Regional Computer Forensics Labs around the country, and one of them, led by Supervisory Special Agent Cheney Eng-Tow, is in Salt Lake City. From the early days of the Susan Powell investigation, the FBI's Intermountain West RCFL assisted West Valley police in working to uncover what Josh Powell was hiding. Investigative reporter Dave Cawley joins Becky Bruce with a sneak peek at what he's working on in Cold.

Jesus Feminist Sarah Bessey's hashtag, #ThingsOnlyChristianWomenHear created a twitter firestorm. Is there a cultural problem or a doctrinal problem in churches that makes religion inherently sexist? Is it both or something altogether different? Does faith unintentionally encourage abuse? Pastor Rick Henderson admits he was wrong, as he welcomes guest co-hosts Becky Bruce and Rob Lambert to give their perspective.
Jesus Feminist Sarah Bessey's hashtag, #ThingsOnlyChristianWomenHear created a twitter firestorm - and it's still catching. After the last episode's discussion about a role for Christian leaders in helping repair bad relationships, Pastor Rick Henderson got an earful on Facebook about domestic violence and women in the church. He welcomes guest co-hosts Becky Bruce and Rob Lambert to help better understand where victims of abuse are coming from and how his words might have been perceived, even if that's not what he meant.
In part two of our video episode, Pastor Rick Henderson welcomes guest co-hosts Becky Bruce and Rob Lambert to talk about the viral hashtag from self-proclaimed Jesus Feminist, Sarah Bessey - #ThingsOnlyChristianWomenHear. The hashtag erupted on twitter, with observations about women being relegated to service but never leadership, comments about infertility and family planning, and much more. Does it indicate a real cultural or doctrinal problem in churches? Is religion somehow inherently sexist? Does faith accidentally encourage abuse? What does all of that mean for the battle of the sexes?
