Oscar-Winner and frontman for the Boxmasters Billy Bob Thornton and his longtime bandmate, Grammy-winning guitarist JD Andrew, sit with Says Who Sports to talk music, movies and a whole lotta sports!Thornton has been a big fan of sports, especially baseball, all his life. He grew up in rural Arkansas and became a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Thornton shares his excitement at meeting Stan Musial and Bob Gibson, what it was like to witness the power of slugger Albert Pujols taking cuts in batting practice from an on-field perspective, drinking beers with Goose Gossage, a smoking session with Jim Leyland, his close relationship with former Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa, and his pick between Greg Maddux and Roger Clemens to pitch a winner-take-all game. Thornton, who starred in the movie Friday Night Lights, discusses immersing himself in the intensity and drama of Texas high school football, his iconic halftime speech in the movie, and his big respect for kickers, reinforced thru his own (painful) attempts at kicking seemingly simple extra points during breaks in filming in the Astrodome. Thornton, who has played and toured with the best in the music business since he was a teenager, and Andrew discuss their musical brotherhood of nearly two decades, their earliest musical influences, and stories of recording and sharing stages with many of their musical heroes, from ZZ Top to Warren Zevon. Andrew recounts what it was like working as a mixer in the studio with the Rolling Stones during the sessions for A Bigger Bang, including special moments with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Thornton discusses how winning an Oscar for Sling Blade changed his life, his gratitude for the cast members of the movie and the friendships that developed, and if Sling Blade could even be made today.

Don Was & The Pan Detroit EnsembleMaggie LePique speaks with Don Was about his new musical group Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble. Don & the Ensemble are embarking on a West Coast run of concert dates in September 2024. Made up of stellar jazz musicians from his Detroit hometown, The Pan-Detroit Ensemble will perform a mix of new originals, interpretations of songs written by artists like Yusef Lateef, Olu Dara, and Henry Threadgill, and of course updated cuts from albums that Don recorded with Orquestra Was and Was (Not Was). Don's Detroit roots still run deep and, we explore those roots and highlight his most recent musical love letter to that great city, The Pan-Detroit Ensemble, and so much more. More on Don Was:Don Was is one of music's most significant artists and executives, exceling in multiple roles and serving as one of the industry's beacons for integrity and forward-thinking. During this period of disruption and rapid evolution in the worldwide music business, Was remains committed to music as an art form and its importance to contemporary culture. As the President of Blue Note Records since 2011, Was is both the company's leader and an ambassador for its music, charged with bringing the label's 21st Century jazz artists and its expanding pallet of contemporary musicians to larger audiences. Was is also caretaker for Blue Note's singular and historic catalogue of music, and is burnishing the label's 80-year legacy by overseeing ongoing and extensive reissue campaigns that serve audiences in both the analogue and digital realms. One of Was's most noteworthy musical associations of the past two decades is with The Rolling Stones, for whom he's produced their last four studio albums and a host of other studio and live recordings. Beginning with Voodoo Lounge in 1994 and continuing through Bridges To Babylon in 1997, A Bigger Bang in 2005 and Blue And Lonesome in 2016, Was's work with the Stones has resulted in Platinum and Gold certifications in dozens of countries. He also oversees the band's historic reissues, including Exile on Main Street in 2010, Some Girls in 2011 and Sticky Fingers in 2015, searching the band's vaults and master tapes for lost jewels and bringing the projects to completion. He produced the band's 2020 surprise single, “Living In A Ghost Town,” which was released amidst the global pandemic in April of that year.Source: https://donwas.com/https://www.bluenote.com/Host Maggie LePique, a radio veteran since the 1980's at NPR in Kansas City Mo. „Undercover (of the night)“ (1983) wirkte kühl, „Dirty Work“ (1986) gilt als missraten, wenn man vom Hit „Harlem Shuffle“ einmal absieht. REM are often viewed by casual listeners as a lighter-style rock band.  This is deceptive, with the band offering complex songs with obscure lyrics, brilliant playing, covers, and an incredible refusal to compromise.  The boys talk through REM's development from their rock cliche start – the singer, Michael Stipe, met guitarist Peter Buck in the record shop where Buck worked - to their becoming one of the biggest-ever bands in the world – all without selling out.   MOJO Magazine called them an ensemble growl adorned with heavenly harmonies  which describes perfectly how their beautiful melodies, with disaffected, jaded lyrics, were influenced by The Velvet Underground. In turn they influenced such key bands as Nirvana and Pavement, as well as Radiohead, Coldplay, Pearl Jam, The Pixies and The Smiths.  Our “Album You Must Hear before You Die” is 1971's “Aqualung” by Jethro Tull.  It's a special album of contrast full of brave variations – from gentle acoustic breaks to Martin Barre's power chords and Ian Anderson's tough vocals.  The Dickensian quality of many of the lyrics challenges organised religion. Mick & Jeff both have great memories of this album, including the night that Jeff's keyboard player from his band, Ocean, blew the crowd away with the piano intro lifted from “Locomotive Breath” during a show south of Sydney.   We look at The Stones' new album, “Hackney Diamonds”, their first in 18 years. Jeff thinks it's pretty good, but Mick still keeps comparing every new Stones record to “Exiles on Main Street”.  Jeff brings some bad news.  The Bored Ape Yacht Club, famed distributor of NFTs (as credible as digital currency!) has gone belly-up, driving another nail into the digital con artist industry. References:  Rolling Stones, ‘Hackney Diamonds', ‘Angry', ‘A Bigger Bang', Bored Ape Yacht Club, “1001 Albums You Must Hear before You Die”, Robert Dimery, Jethro Tull, “Aqualung”, Martin Barre, Ian Anderson, “Locomotive Breath”, “Hymn 43”, REM, Athens Georgia, Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, Michael Stipe, Wuxtry Records, Patti Smith, Television, The Velvet Underground, Dr. William Dement, Mandolin, “Out of Time”, Hofner bass, "Monster”, “Lifes Rich Pageant”, “Document”, “Femme Fatale”, “Pale Blue Eyes”, "So.

Have you ever started or done a workout program and had this out-of-body experience? Kinda like you blacked out during it but you're panting and sweaty and just standing there like "wtf just happened?" A lot of us do exercise programs where we have similar experiences to this: we think we're getting in "the zone," yet all we are doing is going through the motions to just get through it and call it done. Which isn't necessarily bad: but it could be WAY better. In today's episode, we are gonna look at the stories of 2 of my private clients who changed the way they approached exercise which wound up changing their life. Before working together, these women had no idea how to actually tell what was happening with their core and pelvic floor not only during exercise, but also when they were doing every day stuff like lifting their kids, climbing the stairs, and carrying laundry. Once they began learning more about how their bodies function and how to tell when they aren't functioning the most efficiently (aka compensating), they felt stronger and had less pain/leaks in a matter of 2-3 sessions. Am I the best pelvic floor physical therapist in the world? Hellllll NO! But I do know how to give people the tools they need to allow them to fix themselves instead of rely on me to do the fixing for them. These super basic principles of core and pelvic floor engagement are what I cover inside the Finally Floored Foundations: Beyond Kegels workshop which is happening Sunday 3/13 at 10am EST! Signup information is in the show notes. We then take those basic fundamentals a step further inside the Finally Floored program, a 12-week total body conditioning workout program that starts with the core and pelvic floor and builds outward to get your body working as a complete power house instead of in bits and pieces that don't fit together! The waitlist for that is open now: check the show notes to grab your spot for that as well! Healthcare is a difficult territory for women to navigate, as many of us are left feeling dismissed and unheard, our concerns being chalked up to being a "crazy woman" who just needs to lose weight (BARF). That shit ends here and now. Today, we take back our health and speak up: because no one else is gonna do it for us. Hey, y'all. I am Shay. This is the on air indie show. Welcome & enjoy. Episode 57. First, music history for June 28th. In 2007 tragedy rocked the Rolling Stones concert in Madrid. While dismantling the stage, two workers were injured and two lost their lives. The Stones were currently on the European leg of A Bigger Bang world tour. Elvis Presley's longtime guitarist Scotty Moore passed away in 2016 at age 84 in Nashville. Sun Records impresario Sam Phillips paired Moore with a teenaged Elvis in 1954. Together, along with bassist Bill Black, they recorded Presley's first single, “That's All Right (Mama).” The audition made music history. Alt-rock Brisbane-based, Australian band Flint is on the show today. Frontman Tony Rosenberg and guitarist Peter Jenner are our guests. Both are songwriters for the band. We spin the band's debut single “Colours” off their debut EP Follow The Embers out in July. Flint has an unique classic rock inspired song that will hook you as a fan. Great band! Enjoy the show! tracks: "Colours" 13:42 From The Band Tony Rosenberg (vocalist / lyricist) and Peter Jenner (songwriter / guitarist) have been playing together for almost three years now, and writing as Flint for almost two. John Doyle (bass) and Brian Foulds (drums) joined the band in late 2020 and the fruit of their efforts is (will be) the band's debut EP, a five-song compilation of rock music with an edge. Flint began as a desire to create a sound that is not obvious, but which traverses several realms of rock. Odd tunings, unexpected chord progressions, peculiar percussion are blended carefully with lyrical musings that take listeners on a roller coaster ride of moods, feelings and ideas. At one moment, a listener may hear something remotely familiar; however, before they can digest the sound, it is transformed into something unforeseen, or was it?https://youtu.be/HzLb7Dl5bag Production - JK Media Director - Kezia Bennett  Main actors: Tony Paterson, Katia Rosenberg Supporting Actors: Isabella Beltrao Previous Next Facebook Twitter Youtube Instagram Bandcamp Link Link

The least expensive spots at the 16,000-seat venue will cost $62, which is equal to a dollar for each year lead singer Mick Jagger has been alive. Tickets go up from there to $97, $162 and $352. That's nearly twice as much as the most expensive ticket at the Paul McCartney show, scheduled for Oct. 30 at the Qwest Center. Those tickets, which ranged from $49.50 to $177, sold out in 14 minutes. Rolling Stones tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. CDT on Saturday. For members of the Stones fan club who joined between July 2004 and May 9, tickets went on sale Monday. New fan club members can buy tickets on Tuesday. The Stones last played a concert in Nebraska on July 15, 1966, at Omaha's Civic Auditorium. Their only other previous Nebraska concert was June 13, 1964, at Omaha's Music Hall. A lot has changed since then but three founding band members remain — Jagger, Keith Richards, 61, and Charlie Watts, 64. Guitar player Ron Wood, the baby of the group at 58, joined the band in 1975. The Stones kicked off their latest North American tour Sunday at Fenway Park. The Omaha date is one of the latest scheduled ones on the tour from now into March, which will take Jagger, Keith Richards and the other Stones to dozens of cities including Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis and Denver. Their new album, "A Bigger Bang," is scheduled for release on Sept. 6.

In 2005 The Rolling Stones came back to Omaha for the third time (1964, 1966). Having been a fan of the band for 45 years (at that time), I had amassed quite a collection of rare and unique recordings by the band and by individuals within the band. Because of a glitch at the time, the show's airing was marred and became unable to be aired. This is part two of a three hour special Enjoy! Rick Rolling Stones to play Omaha concert The Associated Press Aug 21, 2005 The Stones are rolling into Omaha for the first time in 39 years. The Rolling Stones are booked to play a Jan. 29 show at the Qwest Center. But satisfaction for Stones fans won't come cheap. The least expensive spots at the 16,000-seat venue will cost $62, which is equal to a dollar for each year lead singer Mick Jagger has been alive. Tickets go up from there to $97, $162 and $352. The Rolling Stones last studio album? Can that really be? (The answer is yes, at least until the long-rumored 2020 album comes out). It's hard to believe we've finally gotten to this point. So we arrive here, and what do we find? A pretty good album overall! Very back-to-basics, especially considering the all-over-the-map approach that they took on Bridges to Babylon. The guest musicians and sidepeople are kept to a minimum, as are the producer and writer credits. Many of the tracks feature just the core band in the studio making music (and sometimes that just includes Mick, Keith, and Charlie). There's some good riffs, there's some good vocal melodies, and there are a couple of unexpected treats. There's also a larger amount of filler here, and this album ends up suffering from some of the mid-70s "we didn't really develop this idea very fully" problems that they'd mostly avoided on their last three releases. We evaluate this latest (and potentially last) Stones album track-by-track.

Sledgehammer audio. That’s how Emmy award-winning FOH Engineer Dave Natale describes his approach. I take it to mean no frills, no fancy effects, nothing that gets in the way of a pure, clean, and loud mix. Since 1981 Dave has mixed some of the top grossing acts of the last few decades starting with Asia’s Heat of the Moment tour. From there, he has gone on to mix for Tina Turner, Motley Crue, Joe Cocker, Fleetwood Mac, Lionel Ritchie, and of course, The Rolling Stones, for whom he has mixed since the A Bigger Bang world tour in 2004. Dave still mixes on an analog console, preferring to remain true to the tools that he is most comfortable with, and the tools that he feels will serve him the best. When he’s not on the road he can be found behind the FOH desk at any number of award shows throughout the year. If you need any further information as to just how good Dave is at his job, look no further than page 490 of Keith Richards’ autobiography, Life. Wir sind wieder zurück. BAAANG.
