Breast milk imparts a number of long-term health benefits to babies, including a lower risk of asthma, obesity, Type 1 diabetes and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But for a variety of reasons, many parents turn to formula. Now, several startups such as BIOMILQ and Helaina are working on new kinds of infant nutrition products that promise to better mimic parts of human breast milk—and may lead to advances in adult nutrition along the way. But to bring artificial breast milk to market, they'll need to do some tough science and overcome regulatory and ethical hurdles. What do you think about the show? Whether their names are directly attached to their product or they're just one in a long list of investors, celebrities have been highly influential in the food and beverage industry; their popularity and ability to fund projects has catapulted celebrity food brands in recent years. In this episode of the Xtalks Food Podcast, Sydney talks about five celebrity food brands from various pop stars and one celebrity chef. She discusses Rob's Backstage Popcorn from the Jonas Brothers, Tingly Ted's Hot Sauce from Ed Sheeran, Cravings by Chrissy Teigen, Snoop Cereal by Snoop Dogg and Big Sexy Frozen Pizzas by Lewis Capaldi, all of which are either debuting or expanding this year. The team wonders whether the rise of celebrity food brands is a new phenomenon and what differentiates them from celebrity endorsements or partnerships. Also in this episode, Sydney talks about Israeli cell-based breast milk startup Wilk Technologies, which recently received a $3.5 million investment from French dairy giant Danone. Wilk, which launched in 2020, produces cell-based human breast milk and animal milk. The publicly-listed startup has a number of patent applications, including one approved patent, on laboratory production processes that replicate the milk-producing cells of humans and other mammals. Although the cell-based breast milk market is still in its infancy, Wilk already has competitors, including 108Labs, Biomilq and TurtleTree, all of which have received millions of dollars in funding to bring cell-based breast milk to the market. The team believes this cell-based venture could be the most beneficial one to date but points out that rigorous safety testing must be done before cell-based breast milk can be commercially produced, distributed and sold.Read the full article here:Rob's Backstage Popcorn, Tingly Ted's and Other New Celebrity Food BrandsWill Cell-Based Breast Milk Ever Replace Baby Formula? For more food and beverage industry content, visit the Xtalks Vitals homepage.Follow Us on Social MediaTwitter: @XtalksFood Instagram: @Xtalks Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Xtalks.Webinars/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/xtalks-webconferences YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/XtalksWebinars/featured

In the first half of the show, Chris and Greg take a look at how Bill Gates is seemingly connected to everything, including the baby food shortage. Breakthrough Energy Ventures, an investment fund co-founded by Bill Gates, invested in BIOMILQ, a U.S. company that specializes in producing artificial human breast milk. It just so happens that the CEO and co-founder of BIOMILQ, Michelle Egger, previously worked for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop "alternative protein implementation in developing nations." Why does everything have to lead back to Bill Gates?! In the second half of the show, the guys dive into the Buffalo shooter and the oddities surrounding it. They examine oddities within the shooter's 180-page manifesto, including false pictures and plagiarism of previous shooter's manifestos. The manifest shows that the shooter was influenced by far-left ideals, which is inconsistent with reports from the mainstream media. On this episode of the NTEB Prophecy News Podcast, we have so much on our plate today involving the ongoing chess game the New World Order has been playing for the past 791 days, including a fresh update from everyone's favorite end times villain Bill Gates. And wouldn't you know it, just as the news comes out about the current baby formula shortage crisis here in America, we find out that Bill Gates has been quietly funding a lab-grown artificial baby formula company called Biomilq since the pandemic started. I mean, what are the chances. About the same type of chances you would have when Bill Gates funded Event 201 to wargame a global COVID outbreak, and like a 'Christmas Miracle!!!' it happened. Hopefully by this point, you can see clearly what is swirling all around you as the end times intensify. And if you can't, now worries, that's what NTEB is here for. Join us today as we again pull back the curtain on the great and powerful Wizard of Oz, to show you what's really going on. In Russia, Vladimir Putin has declared war on Ukraine, but it's the weirdest war you ever saw and Putin is suffering with major health issues and complications. In Communist China, Xi Jinping has suffered a cerebral aneurysm, and is currently incapacitated. In America, Joe Biden's poll numbers are just as low as his cognitive function, causing him to spew nonsense on a regular basis, with politicians from both parties asking how much longer can this go on? Oh, almost forgot, in the UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed was just unanimously installed as president. Maybe it's just me, but is anyone else seeing New World Order regime change happening?
It's another Monday! Get up and listen to today's episode. The gut and microbiome is increasingly being referred to as your “second brain,” with fascinating new research linking the microbiome to everything from behavior to skin health. In this episode, Shazi speaks with Dr. Jack Gilbert, Professor in Pediatrics at UCSD and Co-Founder of The Earth Microbiome Project and The American Gut Project, about the development of a baby's microbiome and what parents can do ensure that their baby's gut and microbiome is as diverse and healthy as possible, from breastfeeding to beneficial probiotics. He also explains what he's learned about the link between gut health and behavior, from both his research and his personal experience raising his son, who was diagnosed with autism. Shazi also shares what she's learned from her own experience with Zane – and what she's learned about the link between the gut and his behavior. We also hear from Michelle Eggers and Leila Strickland, Co-Founders of BIOMILQ – and their work to create breast milk without the breast, to ensure that future generations of babies are better fed. Human milk is the special subject we're looking into this week, including how the cells it contains can jump into a baby's bloodstream - and literally make mum part of their offspring. We hear how biotechnology is aiming to produce human milk in the lab as an improved alternative to formula, and how donated human milk is helping sick babies, parents in need and cancer research. Plus, we dive into why online sales of human breast milk are on the rise due to a slightly surprising consumer group... Like this podcast? Please help us by supporting the Naked Scientists
Michelle Egger is the Co-Founder and CEO of Biomilq, a woman-owned, science-led, and parent-centered biotech startup developing novel technology to make human milk outside the body. They're on a mission to nourish healthier babies, empower parents through choice and contribute to a healthier planet. In our conversation we discuss: Her career path and why combining food science and entrepreneurship made sense The struggles modern parents face and why it should be a human right to access human milk and nutrients The importance of having mission-aligned investors and why partnership criteria is helpful in finding the right people to support your business Why staying intellectually humble is important when building a social impact business And why this isn't just a women's issue; it's a family issue Michelle and her team are doing incredible work to not only support healthy infant development and modern parents, but are working to remove stigma in the business space by focusing on capability & vision instead of gender. Dr. Leila Strickland and Michelle Egger believe the $100 billion dollar infant formula industry isn't serving the nutritional needs of newborns. So they're taking on a daunting task - to make and eventually produce at scale - lab-made human milk for babies (aka recreating breast milk in a lab). In this interview, the BIOMILQ co-founders share with us the opportunities and challenges in their quest to make a game-changing difference in the lives of mothers (and fathers) around the world.
In this episode, Dr. Rosie Sendher and guest co-host Bre Grofscik are joined by Dr. Leila Strickland, co-founder and chief science officer of Biomilq. Leila's personal experience as a mother gave birth to this mother-centered and woman-owned company, which creates cell-cultured human milk from mammary epithelial cells. These are the same cells that produce milk in a lactating mother, and Biomilq is researching how to best nurture and grow these cells in a laboratory setting to produce human milk! This remarkable novel innovation aims to empower mothers without compromising early nutrition. Leila's story will be a familiar one to many, as breast-feeding is an endeavor that is often riddled with challenges. Please join us for an important discussion that begins at the cellular level - highlighting Biomilq's research, breastmilk composition, and lactation physiology - and ends at the macro level where we explore how access, resources, and professional culture all impact breast-feeding and child nutrition. “We see 84% of moms in the U S convert to infant formula partially or entirely in that first six months of life before the recommended period of exclusive breastfeeding ends. We see two thirds of moms express extreme shame and guilt and stigma for the way they feed their children. And, we continue to see that the infant formula industry in general has really pillaged and plundered in a lot of ways on parents wanting to do what's best for their child, but really not having better options and having very little innovation to really think about how to better nourish a child.” Michelle Egger Michelle Egger is a food scientist and the CEO and co-founder of BIOMILQ, a woman-owned, science-led, mother-centered startup that is creating human breast milk in a lab, by culturing mammary cells. On this episode of the VWS Pathfinders Podcast, Jenny chats with BIOMILQ founder and food scientist Michelle Egger. A woman who has dedicated her life to understanding the intricacies of dairy, Michelle empowers women by combining the nutrition of breastmilk with the practicality of formula. After the culture shock of Purdue University, Michelle found herself in the place she least expected: dairy. Working for General Mills' convenience and foodservice desk, she was tasked with developing low-sugar yogurt for children. It wasn't until volunteering for Partners in Food Solutions that Michelle found her true calling. While working in Ethiopia, she saw firsthand the profound impact of her work. From that point on, she dedicated herself to making a social impact through food. Founding BIOMILQ with cell biologist Lelia Strickland, the company has rocketed into the spotlight. Recently receiving $3.5 million of funding from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Bill Gates' investment firm, BIOMILQ has received worldwide recognition for their revolutionary work.
