The High Republic Phase III launches this week with the Shadows of Starlight #1 (of 4), an emotional rollercoaster of an issue by Charles Soule, Ibraim Roberson, Protobunker's Fer Sifuentes-Sujo, VC's Travis Lanham, Carlos Lao, Mikey J. Basso, Danny Khazem and Mark Paniccia. Chris Werms joins us for a discussion of this critical issue.Bounty Hunters #39 and Darth Vader #39 continue the Dark Droids event, with T'onga facing the cold reality of a promise made to Valance, while the Dark Lord of the Sith gets to the root of his vexatious issues and gets his groove back.Comics Discussed This Week:Bounty Hunters #39 (6:02)Darth Vader #39 (23:04)Shadows of Starlight #1 (35:18)Star Wars Comics New to Marvel Unlimited This Week:Darth Vader: Black, White & Red #3 (of 4)Doctor Aphra #33News: Based on the checklist, Marvel's The High Republic Phase III will be a 10-issue maxi-series.We were right. January 9th would have been Billy Cowsill’s 67th birthday, and there are few singers that we love more than old Billy "Bud," so I felt like listening to a bunch of his work, which somehow led into a solid set of 70s am radio classics. Strange things happen on Tell the Band to Go Home. We also have a stellar new record from Paul Kelly to share, as well as new songs from Shannon Lyon and other favourites!

Tonight marks the return of Barney Bentall & The Grand Cariboo Opry, and that’s a great reason to celebrate. We’ve even got an interview with Barney to tell us all about the magic. Plus, there are more great upcoming shows, and we’re slowly and carefully easing into holiday music mode.

Edie Hartshorne was a therapist, meditation practitioner and musician, comfortable with facilitating change and working for peace. But nothing could have prepared her for the loss of her 20 year old son and the possibility that he had killed himself. In Light in Blue Shadows, a deeply felt memoir, Edie takes us into her grief and plumbs the depths of her pain and non-acceptance through to making peace with her loss. Join us to talk about the necessity of grief, even for those of us who accept death as a fact of life. Hear how she slowly felt her way back to her joy and fulfillment without forcing herself to go faster than she could.

Today’s a day full of favourites, mostly old, a few new. We revisit some great songs and artists we haven’t heard from in a while and debut a few new ones.

Today’s show is inspired by a bunch of "new" classic country compilations, with some twangy honky tonk sounds from some of the greats. We’ve also got a sonic preview of the Big Star movie and an upcoming show.

A sad day today, as the world said goodbye to Levon Helm. Few figures loom larger than The Band in our world, and Levon was a huge part of what we knew and loved and were so inspired by. It’s our duty to play a whole bunch of Levon Helm today. We also pay tribute to another departed favourite figure, Billy Cowsill, as we hear Dustin Bentall’s new tribute song. On a higher note, there are some great shows coming up in our town.

We don’t really get excited about sports around here very often, but today the Bombers are playing for the Grey Cup, and they can use all the help they can get. With that in mind, we send out a set of Blue & Gold songs that will hopefully help the boys win the big game. There are a couple of shows this week that we’re excited about, including the return of our pal Andy Sheppard and his new project Find the Others, and the legendary Gordon Lightfoot!

Live in the studio, we're once again joined by one of Winnipeg's finest songwriters, Jeffrey Hatcher, who chats about Hatcher-Briggs and The Blue Shadows. and debuts his new song about Billy Cowsill, and much more!
Luckily, I made it off my duff and out to Neilfest this weekend, and it got me thinking (as I often do) about how amazing our local musicians are. Truly world class, and we’ve got some of the best today, including some songs from Hatcher Briggs, who do a rare live show next weekend. Also next weekend is the return of the amazing CR Avery (along with Wil). We’ve also got some neat new music, some requests, and even a trip to the opera/opry!

Vancouver rockbilly-roots band The Blue Shadows: the mini-supergroup formed in the early 90s, founded by Billy Cowsill of 60s popsters The Cowsills and roots rocker Jeffrey Hatcher.
There’s a couple of great shows coming up, featuring Brock Zeman and Tom Wilson, and while we could spend hours and hours extolling the virtues of both, we’ll do what we can in the space of a few songs. This week we also play a bunch of all-time classics for our pal Boyd, and anyone who loves great songs.

Hey, hey, it’s our (unofficial) birthday! Steel Belted Radio kicked off on September 11, 2003, and that means that T-Bar and I have managed not to kill each other for 7 full years! To kick off year #8, we heard from our latest MIA co-host! We also heard some new, some notable, and some weird. After 7 years, we’re still sticking to that format!
