AP Washington correspondent Sagar Meghani reports on the Defense Department is accepting a Boeing 747 from Qatar for use as Air Force One.
It would be one of the most valuable gifts ever received by the United States of America; a Boeing 747-8. The commercial model sells for $400 million, but the price could go way up if they trick it out for top-notch luxury, extra security and all the bells and whistles you would expect on Air Force One. If Trump accepts that gift, as he indicates he will, does that mean the United States is beholden to Qatar? Trump advisor Steven Miller says the Trump administration is looking for ways to suspend the writ of habeas corpus. That means you could be arrested and no one has to tell you why, and no one has to make sure that you appear before a judge theoretically, authorities could do anything with you and take you anywhere and your family would never know where you ended up. Are we looking at the end of the Constitutional privileges we all enjoy? We'll explore.IHeart television and radio political analyst Gary Dietrich will join the conversation. What a great time it is for Boeing, as they spectacularly fail FAA investigations, a whistleblower calling out their scummery dies under Totally Believable Circumstances, and the door on one of their planes flies off on takeoff. Not... like the way the plane itself flies off, the door popped off the plane and- I mean you get it. I am not foolish enough to believe that Boeing is unique in its villainy, this is what huge corporations do, but that don't make it not evil. I'm sure they'll get away with all of this, there are no real consequences for big companies under late stage capitalism, whatever, let's talk about the 747!

Today's episode, “When a Volcano Silenced a Boeing 747 Over the Indian Ocean," is the heart-stopping tale of a commercial jetliner – a Boeing 747 – that, contrary to every other episode in this podcast series, did not crash. However, the world's largest passenger jet at the time came about as close to a spectacular and deadly crash as it could, before the crew saved the plane and the lives of everyone on board from near-certain destruction. Even after the plane landed safely, the mystery of what happened in the dark skies, so far above the ocean remained a mystery for days. How the superior airmanship of this crew saved the lives of 248 passengers, 15 crew and the B-747 has been called one of the most heroic of all time.Join the "Radar Contact Lost" team as we discuss the meteorology, the weather, the piloting, the plane and even the geology of this amazing story.

Saying goodbye to an old friend is never easy. Boeing has delivered its final 747 jumbo jet, after a production run of more than five decades. Several generations of Boeing workers were there to send off the plane, plus a surprise guest in John Travolta. The giant, yet graceful, 747 was once considered revolutionary and brought air travel to the masses. But in recent years, the plane dubbed 'The Queen of the Skies' has been usurped by cheaper, more efficient rivals. US-based aviation analyst Richard Aboulafia spoke to Corin Dann.
First Sri Lanka, then Bangladesh and now Pakistan is also teetering towards an economic collapse. With mounting debts, depreciating currency, high inflation rates and depleting forex reserves, it desperately needs a financial bailout. Will the IMF aid come through? In other news, the last Boeing 747 flight is being rolled out of the factory to be delivered to Atlas Air. With this, the 55-year-long production run of this iconic jet plane has come to an end. Introduced in 1968, the Boeing 747 totally revolutionized commercial air transportation. It was more than twice the size of the next closest passenger plane, and it brought air travel to a much wider audience. Not only did it help democratize air travel, but the plane's unique features also added a new element of style and luxury to the jet age. In addition to carrying passengers, it has also served as an important cargo aircraft, and it has even served as Air Force One.
