On this episode of the podcast, former Texas Judge and Congressman Louie Gohmert dives into the growing politicization of the American judicial system. Gohmert pulls no punches as he critiques judges who choose to legislate from the bench and overstep their constitutional authority — pointing to a controversial New Hampshire ruling on gender identity in sports as a prime example. The former Chief Justice on Texas's 12th Court of Appeals reflects on the evolution of federal judges, including conservative appointees like Judges David Souter and Stephen McAuliffe, who shifted left over time and waited to retire until a Democrat president like former President Barack Obama could replace them. Gohmert also explores the lasting impact of the confirmation process on Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh. From calling for judicial reform to questioning birthright citizenship and the effects of illegal immigration on elections, Gohmert delivers a hard-hitting take on the intersection of law, politics, and the Constitution.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Hosts: Greg Skordas and Guest Host Morgan Lyon Cotti  U.S. Department of Education lives to see another day The U.S. Department of Education will live to see another day. Reports this morning from the Wall Street Journal outlined a draft executive order directing the department secretary to "take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure” of the Department of Education. The Executive Order was set to be signed as early as today, but a White House official confirmed the delay just a short time ago.  Tariffs on Mexico paused for another month If this feels like déjà vu, we hear you. Today, President Trump announced another month-long pause in the implementation of tariffs on Mexico. The US Commerce Secretary says it's likely that tariff relief will come to both of our neighbors. The back-and-forth of it all hasn't been good for the stock market, which relies on stability. Inside Sources discusses the instability and how it’s affecting Pres. Trump’s polling.  On the Hill 2025: Referendum coming on public labor union bill One of the most controversial bills this legislative session was House Bill 267, which banned public labor unions from being able to collective bargain with their employers. Now, several of those groups are banding together to launch a referendum for the ballot, seeking to repeal the bill. Hosts Greg Skordas and Morgan Lyon Cotti discuss the potential success or failure of the movement.  On the Hill 2025: Expanding access to Utah’s state parks With so much talk of cuts to the federal workforce -- including park and forest service officers -- it's brought up questions of how the state can step in to promote our own state parks. State Rep. Doug Welton is pushing a bill that would expand accessibility access in Utah's State Parks, hoping to make it easier for everyone to enjoy the outdoors. He joins the show to talk more about his bill.  On the Hill 2025: Several tax cuts coming to Utah families Utahns will soon see several tax cuts thanks to the state legislature. It's a continuation of a trend with lawmakers -- they've cut taxes in some form year after year. This morning, Senate and House Majority leadership outlined several of the cuts. Executive Appropriations Vice Chair State Representative Walt Brooks explains who will be most affected by the cuts.  Pres. Trump uniting, dividing Democrats all at the same time This morning, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to censure Texas Rep. Al Green for his outbursts during President Trump's address to Congress earlier this week. 10 Democrats joined all Republicans in the vote. It's an example of how President Trump is both unifying and dividing Democrats. The Inside Sources hosts discuss the effect Trump is having on Democrats.  Effort to get more women involved in Utah politics One organization is working to get more women involved in Utah politics... but as candidates themselves. Utah's political groups have become more equal in the makeup between men and women, but the parity is getting closer. Becky Edwards, Board Member of Utah Women Run joins Inside Sources to share more.  Growing threats on federal judges nationwide Federal judges say the number of threats they're receiving is growing day-by-day. And now, the U.S. Marshal's service has issued a warning of those growing threats. KSL Legal Analyst Greg Skordas shares his thoughts on the most recent attacks on America’s judiciary.

In a fiery 90-minute address, President Donald Trump delivered a boastful victory speech to a joint session of Congress. Trump declared, "America is back," and touted his administration's swift and unrelenting actions. However, the speech was packed with exaggerated claims, divisive rhetoric, and inaccurate statements. He highlighted his border policies, calling for harsher deportations, and defended his tariffs, which critics say have only driven up consumer prices. Despite the rhetoric, he avoided discussing key issues like Medicare and healthcare reform, focusing instead on cultural battles. The speech also took a turn when Texas Rep. Al Green protested Trump's claims and was ejected from the chamber for shouting during the address. Several Democrats walked out in protest while Republicans cheered Trump's every word. It's Casual Friday! Emma speaks with Ben Dixon, host of the Benjamin Dixon Show, to discuss the week in news. First, Emma runs through updates on the confirmation of Project 2025 leader Russ Vought to the OMB, Trump's official destruction of USAID and the devastating impact it could have on US Agriculture, Trump's targeting of HHS, Pam Bondi's repeal of anti-foreign influence efforts, birthright citizenship, ICE's detainment of a DACA middle school teacher, the NCAA's transphobic policy, Mike Johnson's tax cuts for the rich, and Trump's ICC sanctions, before diving a little deeper into the Trump/Musk Administration's attempts to obscure the insane levels of their executive overreach. Ben Dixon then joins, jumping right into the need for the US public to rally behind their federal workers in the face of genuine intimidation and threats from the Trump/Musk Administration, exploring the obvious and extensive danger posed by allowing more space for Trump loyalists and obstructionists in the government alongside the necessary role they play in bolstering genuine attempts to resist this regime. After expanding on the major solidarity being shown between federal workers at this moment – including relevant unions – Dixon and Emma parse through Trump's declaration of a US-backed plan to ethnically cleanse Gaza, and Democrats' ongoing inability (or genuine lack of desire) to stand up for marginalized communities at home or abroad, wrapping up the show by reiterating his call to rally behind our federal workers. And in the Fun Half: Emma touches on the struggle from Democratic leadership and media actually to address the ongoing administrative coup, before looking to some exceptions to that trend, including Kyle Clark's coverage of recent blunders in Colorado and Texas Rep. James Talarico's tirade against the lies of “school choice.” The MR Team also watches Ben Shapiro's gleeful defence of Trump's ethnic cleansing plan for Gaza, and gets an update from the Crowder & Co. deposition, before diving deep into the long history of fascist regimes relying on rhetorics of efficiency and bureaucratic cutbacks to obscure their destruction of public welfare, plus, your IMs! We may be starting to see a seismic shift in how the Democratic Party publicly talks about whether President Joe Biden should remain the party's presumptive nominee for president. On Tuesday, Texas Rep. Lloyd Doggett became the first sitting Democratic lawmaker to call for Biden to leave the race after his devastating debate performance last week. Longtime Illinois Rep. Mike Quigley and Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Peter Welch of Vermont were also among those voicing harsh criticism of the president and his campaign. Most notably, South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn said he would support Vice President Kamala Harris if Biden dropped out of the race. Liz Bruenig, staff writer at The Atlantic, explains how the stakes of the race have changed in recent days. And in headlines: New York Justice Juan Merchan has delayed former President Donald Trump's sentencing until September in the wake of the Supreme Court's immunity ruling, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani lost his license to practice law in the state, and President Biden proposed a new rule on Tuesday to protect around 35 million people from excessive heat in their workplaces.Show Notes:What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

Jim says for Garland to blame the problem on a lack of funding is insulting.Next, they explain why President Biden's executive order that supposedly tightens border security has no teeth because there are so many loopholes that nothing really changes. Finally, Jim has little patience for MSNBC's Joe Scarborough trying to rebut a Wall Street Journal story about Biden's cognitive decline by claiming that Biden is mentally sharper than every Speaker of the House over the past 30 years. Please visit our great sponsors:Omaha Steakshttps://omahasteaks.comVisit OmahaSteaks.com to get the Deluxe Father's Day Gift for just $89.99 plus 4 Free Burgers with code MARTINI.

There are no good martinis to start the week but Jim and Greg have plenty to discuss about President Biden playing hardball with Israel over ammunition, a seemingly sane House Democrat getting indicted on bribery charges, and South Dakota Gov. just making things worse as she tries to promote her new book.First, they fume over reports that Biden has paused the delivery of some U.S.-made ammunition to Israel, with no explanation from the White House or anyone else. Is this designed to discourage Israel from going into Rafah to eradicate Hamas? Whatever the reason, an explanation is warranted. Then, they discuss the indictments aimed at Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife Imelda over them allegedly accepting $600,000 in bribes from an energy firm connected with the Azerbaijan government. If it's true, Cuellar obviously ought to be prosecuted. But are Democrats also eager to oust the Democrat most likely to make common cause with Republicans on the border and other issues? Finally, they have multiple observations about South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem's failed attempts to stop the political bleeding over revelations in her new book. From dog killing to whether she ever met with North Korean dictators Kim Jon Un, the answers on "Face the Nation" Sunday were less than impressive - and further proof she won't be and shouldn't be nominated for vice president. Please visit our great sponsors:Fast Growing Treeshttps://fastgrowingtrees.com/martiniUse code Martini to save an additional 15% off on your first order.

It's four martinis for the price of three today and none of them are good.Join Jim and Greg as they start a busy day with the Arizona Supreme Court upholding an 1864 law limiting abortions only to medical emergencies for the mother. "Life of the mother" used to be a pretty standard position on abortion for Republicans, but the hypocritical reaction from most GOP figures yesterday was quite telling. They'd much prefer the talking point than the actual policy. They also groan as the monthly inflation numbers once again come in higher than expected. Prices remain stubbornly high - and often keep rising - regardless of what the president or his allies tell you.Plus, Biden suggests Israel should announce it will stop fighting Hamas for 6-8 weeks to allow significant humanitarian relief into Gaza.
