This week, we herald the return of Steven Spielberg and one more foray into the alien sci-fi genre with Disclosure Day. Those expecting blockbuster thrills might be a little thrown to instead receive a talky, late-style plea for empathy and the transformative power of truth. The question, however, is if it's too late. We discuss Spielberg, his recent oeuvre, and the million things he has on his mind with Disclosure Day.
This week the BGH crew emerges from the theater to review Steven Spielberg's “Disclosure Day”, and along the way asks the question; What happens when an 80 year old tries to say something profound and completely misses the mark? We also talk about tall greys, our own feelings on aliens and whether or not the world would even blink twice if someone actually attempted full disclosure. Disclosure Day is a 2026 American science fiction thriller film directed and produced by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by David Koepp, based on a story by Spielberg. The film stars an ensemble cast, including Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo. As the world stands poised on the brink of World War III, cybersecurity specialist Dr. Daniel Kellner steals from the Wardex Corporation, a secret arm of the U.S. government, a piece of extraterrestrial technology and related files, detailing various events of human–alien contact dating back to the Roswell incident. Wardex CEO Noah Scanlon discovers the theft and has Daniel branded a foreign spy, making him the target of federal authorities. Daniel goes into hiding at a convent with his girlfriend, Jane Blankenship. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Join hosts Matt Diaz and Ernesto Santos with special guest Brandon Hadnot as we give you our SPOILER REVIEW of Steven Spielberg's new sci-fi film Disclosure Day, starring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo & Wyatt Russell.
Spielberg, aliens, and a CGI fox that should be tried for war crimes. Welcome to Disclosure Day.Cupcake and Mike review Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day, starring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson — a North by Northwest-meets-Close Encounters conspiracy thriller about what happens when the government finally admits aliens are real. Written by David Koepp, scored by John Williams, shot by Janusz Kaminski — this is about as classic-Spielberg a creative team as it gets. So why does this conversation get so heated? Is Spielberg "too old for this"? Why are Mike and Jose deeply split on Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor performances? Is the third act really the humanity unifying resolution or did a legendary filmmaker shit the bed? It's Disclosure Day on the Book and Film Globe podcast, as host Neal Pollack and chief film critic Stephen Garrett disclose that they didn't much care for Steven Spielberg's new “the truth about aliens” film Disclosure Day. They both found the script poorly-paced and silly, and really disliked several of the film's performances, including soggy turns from Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, and Colman Domingo. Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, and especially Emily Blunt fare better, but they cannot get the best of a ham-handed scenario, bizarrely convoluted action sequences, and nonsensical world-building. What a mess.We get around to Backrooms this week as well. Critic Daniel Aaron joins Neal to discuss the Internet phenomenon turned box-office sensation. Backrooms is a completely fresh premise, sure to be ground down over time by bad sequels. But for now, it's all about liminal spaces, and genuinely haunting performances from Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, as two Californians in the early 1990s who get caught in another dimension in the back of a failing furniture store. Creepy, unsettling, and weirdly funny, Backrooms will have you thinking twice before entering a strange space. Finally, Scott Gold is back on the podcast this week, talking to Neal about Spider Noir on Amazon Prime, featuring an iconic Nicolas Cage performance as a 1930s noir detective who also happens to have the power set of Spider-Man. The series is eight episodes when it should have been six, with its share of repetitive story beats. But that doesn't take away from its core pleasures: watching Cage give it his all, in a spectacularly physical comic, and semi-tragic, performance. There are excellent supporting turns as well, and enough action scenes to keep this from becoming too dull. Recommended quite highly by our two non-superpowered contributors.Regular listeners of the Book and Film Globe podcast will also notice that we have new theme music this! Welcome to PTBN Pop's Movie Review of The Day! Every weekday we will be reviewing a movie whether it be currently in theaters, featured on streaming or just a film that we hold near and dear to us. On today's episode, Andy Atherton is reviewing “Disclosure Day” from 2026 starring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson & Colman Domingo.
Steven Spielberg returns to one of the defining obsessions of his career with Disclosure Day, a science-fiction thriller inspired by modern UFO disclosure debates and decades of speculation about extraterrestrial life. Written by longtime Spielberg collaborator David Koepp from a story Spielberg reportedly carried with him for years, the film stars Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo in a story about government secrecy, hidden truths, and humanity's first official reckoning with the reality of alien contact.Released on June 12, 2026, Disclosure Day has been praised by critics for its ambition, performances, and Spielberg's trademark sense of wonder, while generating a far more divided reaction among audiences. Is the confirmation that aliens exist still the earth-shattering revelation it once was, or has popular culture spent the last eighty years preparing us for that moment? In this episode, we discuss whether Spielberg's latest film is a hopeful meditation on truth and humanity's place in the universe, or a story built around a revelation that no longer carries the dramatic weight it did in the era of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Join us as we break down the film, its themes, its cultural relevance, and whether Disclosure Day arrived at exactly the wrong moment in history.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
Dave & Cody bring back Kiefer, a college debate coach and cinephile, to review Disclosure Day, the new original Spielberg alien movie. The vintage Spielberg machine is back together: John Williams on score, Janusz Kamiński shooting, David Koepp writing, Michael Kahn editing. Dave makes the case that the whole movie is tuned to a frequency Gen X kids hear and millennials might not. The table digs into Emily Blunt's career-best performance, a possibly divisive ending, the government-competence logic gaps, and whether two and a half hours earns a do-it-yourself conclusion. The Pastor's Corner lands on empathy as survival. Plus the Sandlot reunion series and a round of the Movie Game.SPOILER WARNING: Full spoilers for Disclosure Day after the news segment.Movie reviewed: Disclosure Day (2026) — Directed by Steven Spielberg, written by David Koepp. Starring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, with a score by John Williams. As one of Bono and Ali Hewson's four children, Eve Hewson (The Perfect Couple, Flora and Son, The Knick) might be as close to Irish royalty as you can get. But she's also managed to carve out her own path in acting. While she has a few high-profile Hollywood films in the works, it's the Irish stories, like the Emmy-nominated black comedy series “Bad Sisters,” that she holds closest to her heart. Eve talks to Tom Power about where that Irish pride comes from and what drew her to her latest role in “Bad Sisters,” which is back for Season 2.
