Pop culture writer, James Down Williams, joins Ryan to talk about the 1992 Reginald Hudlin film, Boomerang and it's 3x Platinum soundtrack. The soundtrack boasted 6 singles including Toni Braxton's "Give U My Heart" and Boyz II Men's "End of the Road", which would top the Billboard Top 100 for 13 weeks, which was a record at the time. Equally impressive is the film's cast, which included Eddie Murphy, Hallie Berry, Martin Lawrence, David Allen Grier, Chris Rock, Tisha Campbell, Robin Givens, and Grace Jones (who is also on the soundtrack). Also Discussed:-Hudlin's post-Boomerang career -Babyface's strangehold on the top of the Billboard Charts in the 90s-How the film is responsible for one the most iconic sitcom couples-Grace Jones' outrageous role in the film-Creative BreakupsTo Keep Up to Date with James Deon Williams:WebsiteBlueskyInstagram

Respect The Game Podcast, Billy, Felix and Rob open episode 61 by celebrating the Florida Panthers winning the Stanley Cup. The NHL Playoff trophy, the Conn Smythe Trophy, went to Conner McDavid of the losing Edmonton Oilers. Should trophies only go to players on winning teams? Imagine Luka Doncic winning and MVP trophy after losing a series 4-1. Is it good to have a playoff MVP trophy or just a finals MVP trophy? (12:10) Billy's son is 14 and has a girlfriend. When is the right age for dating? Trying to explain that your first love most likely will not be your last love. How is dating today different the late 90's/early 2000's? Social media is ruining woman and their "expectations" of a man and what to expect in a relationship. Woman upset when you open a door for them but upset when you don't. A man is either a wimp or toxic.  (21:50) The promotion of Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and body enhancement for women. Either plastic surgery or clothes to enhance their physical features. A lady in south Florida died from toxic chemicals from a "discount" BBL.  (28:30) As girl dads, we try to give our daughters encouragement and confidence. Social media will try to tear you down. Women hate more on women than men do. Women give themselves unrealistic expectations, not men. (36:50) - Movies, TV and even Music, are pushing the trans and gay movement. It's forced into pop culture when it doesn't fit. It's forced. It's not needed. The Boys is a wild show, but making Frenchie gay or bi isn't needed. (40:40) We're talking The Boys, House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. Felix is waiting to watch the director's cut of Rebel Moons. "Snyder Cuts" are the way to watch a movie. Peaky Blinders is a great show. Thomas Shelby is amazing. Cillian Murphy is the best actor of this generation. He has been in amazing movies. (51:00) David Allen Grier was offered Ace Ventura but turned it down. He thought it was going to be horrible. Chris Rock thought no one would watch Ace Ventura. Behind the scenes and other stories like this are great. It's interesting to see how things unfold. Jeezy's Ad-Libs ended up on a Kanye song and Jeezy sees a performance and crowd goes crazy when it plays. Michael J. Fox was not originally cast as Marty McFly, it was Eric Stoltz.  (58:00) Snoop Dogg dresses up as the character of the theme of his grandkids birthday parties to avoid people trying to get pictures and autographs. Snoop ran a 34.44 time for the 200-meter Olympic Qualifiers. (1:00:00) The NBA 2024 Finals was boring and had horrible ratings. Would you rather win on the home court or away? The NBA numbers have been consistently going down. (1:04:45) is BINGO the farmer or the dog? All this, and more, discussed in our 61th episode of the Respect The Game podcast. #nba #socialmedia #relationship #relationshipadvice #nbafinals #stanleycup #floridapanthers #dallasmavs #bostonceltics #comedy #snoopdogg #daddaughter #girldad #funny #rtg #studioiv #podcast #subscribe #subscribetomychannel  *Betting With Your Money Is Your Responsibility. Comedian Tommy Davidson Tells His Story Today on The Total Media Network's Dr. Christopher Hall Show, Dr. Hall and Neil Haley will interview Comedian Tommy Davidson. In Living Color just passed its 30th anniversary, and we recently published the memoir of Tommy Davidson, one of the original cast members of the Emmy Award-winning show. In his candid memoir, LIVING IN COLOR: What's Funny About Me (Kensington Books) Davidson recounts his powerful life story, from being literally discarded in a garbage bin – saved and raised by his adoptive mother – to being discovered at The Apollo Theatre, to becoming a pop-culture touchstone. He takes readers from tryouts to its cast of notables (Keenan Ivory Wayans, Jim Carrey, Jennifer Lopez, Jamie Foxx, David Allen Grier, among many!) to its place in television history. A world apart from the predominantly white sketch show SNL, the New York Times calls it “a precursor to “Chappelle's Show” and “Key & Peele.” He shares his unique perspective on weathering the rollercoaster ride of his personal and professional life: making it in Hollywood, being an integral part of television history, on fame and family, and the power of positive karma in his life and career.

Rewatchability is a Podcast.

Have you ever played a board game that's tried to kill you? Well that's just what happens to Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst (and to a lesser extent Bonnie Hunt and some other kid) in 1995's family adventure film Jumanji. Directed by Joe Johnston, who gave us other classic family fare such as The Rocketeer and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, it was a box office smash, spawning a TV cartoon series, and a real-life board game that supposedly doesn't try to kill you. Does the movie still entertain almost 20 years later? Is this Robin Williams' hairiest role? Who is awesomer David Allen Grier or LeVar Burton? We answer these questions and more (the answer to C is LeVar Burton) on this week's Rewatchability! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
