Inception is a 2010 science fiction action film[4][5][6] written and directed by Christopher Nolan, who also produced the film with Emma Thomas, his wife. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a professional thief who steals information by infiltrating the subconscious of his targets. He is offered a chance to have his criminal history erased as payment for the implantation of another person's idea into a target's subconscious.[7] The ensemble cast includes Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Elliot Page,[a] Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, Dileep Rao, and Michael Caine. After the 2002 completion of Insomnia, Nolan presented to Warner Bros. a written 80-page treatment for a horror film envisioning "dream stealers," based on lucid dreaming.[8] Deciding he needed more experience before tackling a production of this magnitude and complexity, Nolan shelved the project and instead worked on 2005's Batman Begins, 2006's The Prestige, and 2008's The Dark Knight.[9] The treatment was revised over six months and was purchased by Warner in February 2009.[10] Inception was filmed in six countries, beginning in Tokyo on June 19 and ending in Canada on November 22.[11] Its official budget was $160 million, split between Warner Bros. and Legendary.[12] Nolan's reputation and success with The Dark Knight helped secure the film's US$100 million in advertising expenditure. Inception's premiere was held in London on July 8, 2010; it was released in both conventional and IMAX theaters beginning on July 16, 2010.[13][14] Inception grossed over $837 million worldwide, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2010. Considered one of the best films of the 2010s,[15] Inception won four Oscars (Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Visual Effects) and was nominated for four more (Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Original Score) at the 83rd Academy Awards.

Inception (2010) Directed by Christopher Nolan Starring: Leonardo Dicaprio, Eliot Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine For the first time in Two Dudes, Brews & Reviews history a director has appeared for the second time as a recommendation, and in some ways this feels like a full circle moment for the podcast - Nolan is Austin's favorite director, the first episode featuring our updated audio set-up was on Interstellar, and he is one of two directors (thus far) that we've ranked on the podcast. Yet, returning to Inception felt weird to us....we discuss how the ideas are here, but the character and emotion isn't. It leads to one of our most free-flowing conversations that weirdly becomes a psychoanalysis on the films, themes, and tropes of Nolan's career thus far.
Mark and Phil discuss the 2010 blockbuster action film Inception. In this episode, they also talk about snowmobile henchmen, paradoxes, and the films of Christopher Nolan. If you enjoyed this episode make sure to listen to The Prestige (ep 412) and Memento (ep 445) episodes that Phil and Mark recorded. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3382899/advertisement

Will the woman who met the Lamia years before, Shaun Sen Dena, be able to lend her expertise? Will Christine's psychology professor boyfriend Clay ever figure out what's going on? Avatar: The Way of Water is a 2022 American epic science fiction film directed by James Cameron, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver from a story the trio wrote with Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. Produced by Lightstorm Entertainment and TSG Entertainment and distributed by 20th Century Studios, it is the sequel to Avatar (2009) and the second installment in the Avatar film series. Cast members Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, and Matt Gerald reprise their roles from the original film, with Sigourney Weaver returning in an additional role. New cast members include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, and Jemaine Clement. In the film, Jake Sully (Worthington) and his family, under renewed threat from humans, seek refuge with the Metkayina clan of Pandora. Cameron stated in 2006 that he would like to make sequels to Avatar if it was successful, and he announced the first two sequels in 2010, following the widespread success of the first film, with the first sequel aiming for a 2014 release. However, the addition of two more sequels, for a total of five Avatar films, and the necessity to develop new technology in order to film performance capture scenes underwater, a feat never accomplished before, led to significant delays to allow the crew more time to work on the writing, preproduction, and visual effects. The filming process, which occurred simultaneously with a currently untitled third film, began in Manhattan Beach, California, on August 15, 2017. The filming location moved to Wellington, New Zealand, on September 25, 2017, and concluded in late September 2020 after three years of shooting. With an estimated budget of $350–460 million, it is one of the most expensive films ever made. Following repeated delays in the expected release schedule, Avatar: The Way of Water premiered in London on December 6, 2022 and was theatrically released in the United States on December 16, 2022 to positive reviews. Critics praised the film for its visual effects and technical achievements, but criticized the plot as thin and the runtime as lengthy. The film has grossed over $955 million worldwide, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2022. Organizations such as the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute named Avatar: The Way of Water as one of the top ten films of 2022. The film also received numerous other accolades, including nominations for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director at the 80th Golden Globe Awards. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

Dr. Dileep Rao is a VC turned Reverse-VC. VCs finance after the 'Aha' moment. As a Reverse-VC, he teaches entrepreneurs to get to Aha! Previously, Dileep financed ventures (~400 deals using equity, debt, leases, development finance) and managed business turnarounds (succeeded on 4/5) . Now he teaches Unicorn-Entrepreneurship: * Small business is about low-growth * Entrepreneurship is about take-off with VC -- but 99.98% of entrepreneurs should avoid VC and the rest should delay. Unicorn-Entrepreneurship (U-E) is about taking off without VC: * VC focuses on opportunities. Reverse-VC focuses on entrepreneurs. * VC focuses on capital. Reverse-VC focuses on skills and smart strategies. * VC funds hot ventures after Aha. Reverse-VC helps entrepreneurs get to Aha * VC helps 20/100,000 ventures. Reverse-VC helps 100,000/100,000. U-E trains entrepreneurs to grow from idea to Aha using the proven skills and strategies of u-entrepreneurs, which are included in his latest books: • Finance Secrets of Billion-Dollar Entrepreneurs: discusses finance and launch secrets of u-entrepreneurs • Nothing Ventured, Everything Gained: discusses opportunity and business secrets of u-entrepreneurs. Dileep learned unicorn secrets by financing entrepreneurs, 9 of whom became unicorn-entrepreneurs, interviewing 33, and analyzing 80. 87 were billion-dollar entrepreneurs (BDEs): • 1% got VC after Tech Aha. 5% got VC after Strategy Aha! These entrepreneurs were replaced by a CEO • 18% used Reverse-VC till Aha. They got VC after Strategy and Leadership Aha and stayed as CEO. • 76% used Reverse-VC, avoided VC, and stayed as CEO. The 94% of BDEs who avoided or delayed VC retained 2x – 7x the wealth created. For more, see “The Truth About Venture Capital” (dileeprao.com). Dileep's previous books were on venture financing, including Business Financing: 25 Keys to Raising Money (NY Times) and Handbook of Business Finance & Capital Sources (AMA, NY). Inc. magazine noted: “Like the U.S. Cavalry, this Handbook enters the scene just in time.” Dileep has consulted on venture development with entrepreneurs, Fortune 500 corporations, economic developers, the U.S. government, and community development corporations to help them bridge the VC gap from Idea to Aha. Dileep has served on boards of many companies and been the chair of one. He has taught entrepreneurship, unicorn entrepreneurship, VC, and venture financing at Florida International University, Harvard, Stanford, INCAE, University of Minnesota and the Warsaw School of Economics.

Picking up where Homer left off, Shakespeare’s little known Troilus and Cressida tells the story of the Trojan War with contemptuous aplomb. All the heroes are here, in their worst possible lights: the vainglorious Achilles refuses to fight, his noble opponent Hector laments the stupidity of war, the title characters fall in lust only to torn asunder, and Ulysses devises a sly scheme to win that doesn’t involve a gigantic wooden horse. Will and James dissect this messy “problem play” that mocks the very ideas of love and martial glory amid plenty of ribaldry, debasement, and gore. In this episode Mark talks about one of his favourite films: the 2010 science fiction action film "Inception" written and directed by Christopher Nolan. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Dominick "Dom" Cobb, a professional thief who specialises in industrial espionage, capable of extracting information from the minds of their targets using experimental military technology that allows them to infiltrate a person's subconscious through a shared dream world, who is offered the chance to have his criminal history erased as payment if he performs "inception" - the implantation of another person's idea into another person's subconscious - for Mr. Saito (Ken Watanabe), a Japanese businessman who seeks the dissolvement of his competitors company. In order to complete their mission of inception, Cobb puts together a team to assist him - including: Arthur (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Cobbs partner who manages and researches their missions; Eames (played by Tom Hardy), an expert in forgery, identity theft, who has the ability to impersonate others inside the dream world; Yusuf (played by Dileep Rao), a pharmacologist; and Ariadne (played by Elliot Page), a graduate student of architecture who is recruited to construct various dreamscapes and mazes with the dream world. Michael Cane stars as Professor Stephen Miles, Cobbs mentor and father-in-law; Marrion Cotillard stars as Mal Cobb, Dom's deceased wife who continues to influence and effect his thoughts and his dreams; Collins Murphy stars as Robert Michael Fisher, the heir to a business and the target of Cobb's team; Pete Postlethwaite as Maurice Fisher, Robert Fisher's father and the dying founder of a business empire; Tom Berenger stars as Peter Browning, Robert Fisher's godfather; and Lukas Haas stars as Nash, an architect in Cobb's employ who betrays him and the team. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

Episode 64. Anyone of us would love to work with one of Hollywood's top directors like Christopher Nolan, James Cameron or Sam Raimi. But what if you got to work with all three of them? Today's guest is actor Dileep Rao, who had the opportunity to do just that. You might recognize him alongside Leonardo Dicaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Inception, in James Cameron's Avatar or in Drag Me To Hell directed by Sam Raimi. This film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine. Is it possible for entrepreneurs to succeed at growing ventures without early-stage venture capital? Based on the fact that more than 9 out of 10 of America's billion-dollar entrepreneurs did take off without early-stage VC, Dileep Rao says YES! In Nothing Ventured, Everything Gained, Dileep Rao shatters the dominant myth that entrepreneurs need early-stage venture capital to build a giant business. In fact, says Rao, by avoiding or even delaying VC, billion-dollar entrepreneurs can control their companies and the wealth created by them–and retain more of that wealth. The book is based on 30 of Rao's interviews with billion-dollar entrepreneurs (BDEs) and hundred-million-dollar entrepreneurs (HMDEs) and the analysis of the strategies of 85 BDEs. The author introduces the finance-smart skills, opportunity secrets, and strategy secrets of BDEs who took off without VC, and proves his points via stories of successful giants like Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs. Every entrepreneur will do well to read and benefit from Rao's invaluable insights and expertise. Dileep Rao, PhD, financed the growth of hundreds of businesses and real estate projects over the twenty-three years he was VP of financing and business development at a venture development and finance institution. He advises entrepreneurs, governments, Fortune 1000 corporations, and financial institutions on building big businesses with finance-smart strategies. Dr. Rao is a clinical professor of entrepreneurship at Florida International University and has taught at Stanford University, the University of Minnesota, and in executive MBA programs in Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
Apple didn’t produce the first personal computer nor the first smartphone, and yet today, Apple is synonymous with those things. Google wasn’t the first search engine, but it’s become the last and enduring search engine. That shows that the first mover isn’t always the company that becomes the enduring market leader. Chris Yeh says in many cases, that ability to be the first to scale is what’s most important. Chris is an investor, writer, mentor, and entrepreneur. He talks about his book that he co-authored with Reid Hoffman, Blitzscaling, and tackles LinkedIn and Silicon Valley’s success, as well as the success of the Reid Hoffmans and Elon Musks of the world. Venture capital or financing and all the things that come with bootstrapping to billions is really what holds up a lot of people from even getting into business in the first place because they don’t understand it. Dr. Dileep Rao, finance expert and full-time Clinical Professor at Florida International University, takes a closer look at venture capital in his book, Nothing Ventured, Everything Gained, and shares what he thinks about leadership, unicorn entrepreneurs, and the skill sets every entrepreneur or business leader should have. La extraña habilidad de Cobb le ha convertido en un hombre muy cotizado en el mundo del espionaje, pero también lo ha condenado a ser un fugitivo y, por consiguiente, a renunciar a llevar una vida normal.
