Federico Castelluccio of The Sopranos Live on Game Changers with Vicki Abelson I knew Federico Castelluccio, Furio Giunta, on the Sopranos, is a crazy talented artist on screen and canvas, is charming, easy on the eyes and ears, but damn! I was unprepared for one of the most fascinating, spectacular conversations I've had to date. I know little to nothing of the art world beyond what I like. Federico made it all sound so straightforward and accessible. He demystified his process of collecting, making so much sense, and almost making it sound… simple! Alas, I'm well aware it's so not. Federico's decades of study, his photographic memory, and his passion paved the way for finds, well, one so extraordinary… sweet dreams are made of these. What joy to ask if it would be possible to view a piece of his work only to discover that the photograph behind him was not a photograph at ‘tol, but rather a charcoal Federico had done. The beauty of the library behind him, from the rich orange wall, gold frames, and perfectly weathered green bookcase, to when Federico swung the camera ‘round so we could glimpse the fine art that surrounds him, and his studio in the distance filled with eye candy worthy of a Florentine museum. And that was before we even touched on The Sopranos. Federico jumped into that, from his audition, taking a bold risk, despite the odds, the waiting, his callback, reaping the payoff, and most unusual words from David Chase, more waiting, to discovering he'd gotten the three-episode part, which swiftly grew to three seasons. He talked James Gandolfini, Vincent Curatola, Michael Imperioli, Vincent Pastore, Joey Pants, Aida Turturro, Larraine Bracco, Eddie Falco, the whole musbucha! There were fabulous stories of all, including beloved Burt Young. We talked about Federico's segue to directing, from award-winning shorts, where he also starred and produced, to his feature film debut, The Brooklyn Banker, which starred David Proval another Soprano pal, and Paul Sorvino. Every single word was infused with enthusiasm, passion, and delight. It's hours later and I still haven't stopped smiling. This is edutainment of the highest order. Federico Castelluccio, a true Renaissance Man, has a new #1 Fan. Today, on Crime & Entertainment, I have the absolute pleasure of having on the ultra talented David Proval. David has started in movies such as Mean Streets, Shawshank Redemption, and, of course, The Sopranos. Even though he was only in 1 season, his impact was remarkable as Richie Aprile. He matched wits with Tony Soprano, maybe better than anyone in the entire series. Chicago-based academic and horror obsessive Peter Raleigh joins to discuss reliable journeyman director Peter Hyams and his 1997 creature feature, 'The Relic'. Maligned critically and a failure at the box office upon its initial release, the film has endured as an example of the tactile, sturdy genre work of the 90s with capable hands on both sides of the camera, including brilliant creature designs from legendary special effects guru Stan Winston. We discuss the film's impressive balancing act, managing to glide over a host ludicrous genre tropes and plot holes with ease while maintining a keen pacing and immersion. Then, we praise the excellent directorial work of Hyams, who serves here as his own cinematographer and generates a mesmerizing, impressionistic array of horror imagery in stark, dimly lit spaces galore. Finally, we discuss the delights of the monster movie, its flattening of distinctions among people that make for compelling survival thrills, and why the sensibilities of the decade were uniquely attuned to the subgenre. THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full podcast review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture For this month's first throwback podcast review, I was joined by Giovanni Lago, Danilo Castro, and guest Larry Fried to discuss the first collaboration between Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese and Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro in "Mean Streets" to help us get ready for the release of their latest piece of work together in "Killers Of The Flower Moon." Shot on a small budget with very few resources, the movie may not have been the official feature directorial debut for Scorsese, but it would be the film that would put him on the map and lay the foundation for much of the greatness that would come after for both him and De Niro. Also starring Harvey Keitel in one of his best roles, David Proval, Amy Robinson, Victor Argo, Richard Romanus & David Carradine, the film is very much a snapshot of 1970s style filmmaking as much as it is a personal look at small-time crime in the streets of Little Italy New York from Scorsese's perspective. What did we think of it fifty years later? Tune in as we discuss the story, the performances, the themes, and scrappy filmmaking, which led to some innovative choices that helped give the film its original identity at the time of its release and more in our review. Paul Williams, the director (not the songwriter or the rock critic or the architect…) shares excerpts and outtakes from his memoir “Harvard, Hollywood, Hitmen & Holy Men” currently available as part of the Screen Classics collection from the University Press Of Kentucky. Williams is the director of “The November Men” which World is Wrong listeners will already be familiar with, as well as films like “Out Of It” (1969) and “The Revolutionary” (1970) both starring a young Jon Voight. Williams, with his production partner Edward Pressman, was a producer of films like Brian DePalma's “Sisters” & “The Phantom Of The Paradise” as well as Terrence Malick's “Badlands”. Beyond the movies, Paul rode the many of the movements of 1960's, 70's & 80's, both political and cultural, with characters as varied as Julie Christie and Huey P. Newton, Fidel Castro and most of the “important” directors associated with New Hollywood If you're interested in the story of New Hollywood, Paul's memoir fills in some major gaps. And if you're too lazy to read the book, this podcast will give you a taste of what you're missing. This year's series of holiday-themed movies concludes with a body-switch comedy from 1988 starring Judge Reinhold and Fred Savage as a father and son who - you guessed it - switch bodies as a result of a mishap with an ancient artifact. What results are hijinks involving middle school bullies, board meetings, heavy metal concerts, motorcycle chases, department stores, etc.....and this all takes place around Chicago during Christmastime. Of course while father and son adapt to their circumstances, they get to know each other better and hilarity ensues. ;) Brian Gilbert directed and this film also co-stars Swoosie Kurtz, Jane Kaczmarek, and David Proval. This came out amidst a slew of other body-switching comedies released within a few months including Like Father Like Son, 18 Again, and Big....and it's actually one of the better ones!Host: Geoff Gershon Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Can you top this? Yes, we can. How the hell is it possible that this sitdown with The Sopranos Richie Aprile aka David Proval, will go down as one of the most entertaining shows yet? It shall. WOW. What fun. Great stories. Crazy coincidences. More great stories. As if it wasn't enough that David's mother and I share the same family name, and she has the same country of origin as my grandma with the same name, we're both New Yorkers, David went to Yeshiva, my father taught Yeshiva, our paths crossing about a decade ago while filming Henry Jaglom's The M Word with Michael Imperioli, post their work in The Sopranos, pre ours at Women Who Write and Game Changers. Thanks to the suggestion of my new good friend, Mark Metcalf, who also middled last week's stupendous sitdown with Tim Matheson, I know David's extensive body of stellar work, Mark added technicolor. I jumped at his suggestion to invite David. My gratitude to both of them is boundless. What fun! I know I said it before, but it bears repeating. From his grandma and the Yiddish theatre, school plays, Uta Hagen, to Scorcese and Mean Streets, thanks to his friend, Jon Voight, how he got it—DeNiro, Keitel, Pavlo Hummel, again thanks to Voight, which led to Nunzio, a hysterical story about filming with Jack Gilford, Elliot Gould, and James Caan, which included more great stories about James, to the other James… Gandolfini. David's audition(s) for The Sopranos, so much great stuff there, moving from mobster Richie Aprile to a Rabbi in The West Wing, Teri Garr, Richard Dreyfus, coaching Eddie Murphy, an insanely great story there, a Drama Desk Nomination, Innocent Blood, John Landis, Don Rickels, hysterical stuff there, meeting Sinatra, and sitting down with him, a fan, wow, Everybody Loves Raymond, Italy, and his personal discontent… all straight talk, with loads of laughter and a few tears. I loved every single second, especially when his wife of 46 years, Cheryl, joined the conversation from the other room. Forget cowbell. More David Proval! Cameron Van Hoy is a veteran in the entertainment industry. After a stint acting, he wrote and produced films such as Treasure of the Black Jaguar, Tooken, and Sharkproof. He really came into his own producing the hit horror comedy Tragedy Girls, which hit theaters around the world and has gone on to become a cult classic. His debut directorial feature, Flinch, was released early this year to great acclaim and theatrical distribution before finding a digital home with the tech giants of Amazon, Apple, and Google. The film continues to accumulate a loyal following and Van Hoy has an affinity for gritty stories documenting love, family and crime in an epic and timeless way.Cameron created the indie film called Flinch that was are released and franchised via NFTs. It's a controversial method, but we are aiming to be trailblazers of the industry and help mitigate the controversy surrounding NFTs by releasing it with a solid foundation. It stars Daniel Zovatto, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Cathy Moriarty, Tom Segura, Buddy Duress, David Proval, Steven Bauer, Michael Drayer and more. It is a crime thriller that tells the story of a young hitman who lives with his mother and a girl who witnesses them commit a murder. The backbone of any film growing a supporting audience is the community behind it. NFTs survive and thrive off of their communities. We are creating 9,999 original art pieces that are representative of characters in the universe. Community members will have the opportunity to purchase these for a set amount each. The funds from these NFTs will go into making the sequel to Flinch. Upon selling all of the NFTs, the film immediately goes into preproduction. A dedicated audience of nearly 10,000 have an interest in ensuring the film succeeds. Those who hold these NFTs can be verified and are rewarded for doing so. After parties with the cast and crew, special Q&As with the director, early access to the script, visits to set during shooting, and red carpet premiers. They gain exclusivity. Additionally, as a reward, 50% of the income generated from the movie will go into a shared community wallet. The NFT holders can vote on how to use these funds. They can use it to market and promote the film, create additional IP (comic books, TV shows, etc.), or whatever else they want to do with it! It gives holders “skin in the game” of the art and movies they love.

"Full Leather Jacket" may be the shortest episode of The Sopranos, but it's one of the more entertaining and impactful chapters in Season 2! This episode sees many of our characters giving up various offerings - A ricotta pie, a treasured jacket, an engagement ring, a tray of food, even murder! But very few of these offerings bring results that our characters understand or could have predicted, and it's becoming clear that things are heading into rough waters. There's also quite a bit of passionate conversation this week about David Proval's finest acted moment so far, Carmela employing some truly expert gangsterism, Melfi and Tony's awkward therapy, and of course - hilarious dinner scenes. All this and more!
Director Paul Williams and screenwriter James Andronica star in a very un-Troma Troma film about a conspiracy to assassinate George Bush masquerading as a film about a conspiracy to assassinate George Bush. It’s the kind of film the subjects of “The Trial of The Chicago 7” might appreciate more than Aaron Sorkin’s ahistoric Oscar nominee. September has Jonathan (@berkreviews) and Corey (@coreyrstarr) focusing on an iconic director: Martin Scorsese. While Jonathan has seen some of the big films of Scorsese's extensive filmography, there are a few he still wants to check off his gap list. Corey has explored it even less so there are plenty of major titles for them to watch for September 2020. As far as the podcast goes, each episode features an in-depth review of the movie for the week. They begin with a spoiler-free review before diving in completely after the needed spoiler warning. However, before getting into the review of the week, Jonathan and Corey discuss what other movies they've seen since the last episode as well as anything else they feel like discussing. To help them decide which of the many films to watch each month they started creating themes for them all. Mean Streets (1973) is one of the earliest on Scorsese's filmography, Jonathan has been meaning to check this off his list so now is the perfect time. This film stars Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, and David Proval. It's a simple premise reading as "A small-time hood aspires to work his way up the ranks of a local mob." --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/berkreviewscom-moviecasts/support

Listen and decide if you think FOUR ROOMS is uneven, or if Betty White's “Golden Girls” (her boobs), could have saved it! Our Hosts Ricky Glore Shae Hornback Eric M.
