Like many musicians, Kerry started singing and performing when he was a kid in church. At age 7 he was singing solos in front of the entire congregation. Then came piano lessons to learn to read and write music. He really loved to sing though, so he concentrated on his vocals. He performed all throughout his school years, all the way up through college at George Mason University. The West Coast was calling him so in 1988 on a wing and a prayer he heads out to L.A.!! He settles in and meets some great musicians and starts to perform out there, singing in some experimental Rock bands like Acid Clown. In 1991 he came up with the concept of The Thrillbillyz and, along with the help of some great musician friends, was able to record a four song demo at Fox Studios in Glendale, CA and work with the owner/engineer Rich Fox. In 1993 ,after several years of performing around Southern California as The Thrillbillyz, Hurley moves back to the East Coast and his hometown of Roanoke, Virginia. Roanoke definitely is not as big of a market as L.A. but it has a growing music scene and Hurley jumps in head first. He re-forms The Thrillbillyz and starts playing shows like crazy. He continues to write and work on his originals and in 1994 takes his band into Flat Five Studios in Salem, VA and records the album “Romp!” and releases it in 1995. Ten of the eleven songs are originals and a few of the songs (Franklin County Moonshine & Sweet Leaf) wind up on the radio in regular rotation on the area's biggest Rock station 96.3 WROV. The band played constantly in support of it's record and through it's association with Buzz Casey and WROV was able to open up for quite a few National acts like Government Mule, Storyville, Foghat, Loverboy, Johnny Winter, Matchbox 20 and many more!!! The band played and enjoyed success for the next 5 years and in 2000 everyone went their own musical ways. Hurley had been singing on the side for a Blues band called Blues Hangover from 96 to 98 and traveled quite a bit with them, winning several Blues Contests and traveling to Memphis, TN in 97 to compete in the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge. It was a great learning experience. In 2001 Hurley wound up joining The Fat Daddy Band and that very same year went down and won the Charlotte Blues Society's contest and in 2002 went to Memphis again to represent them at the IBC and made it to the finals (one of ten bands out of 150). For the next 14 years he would front that band and continue to write songs. He put out 2 cd's with The Fat Daddy Band - “From The Soul”(2003) and “Live & Lovin' It!”(2005).

If I were stranded on an island and could only bring one plant, this would be the one I would choose. Monarda fistulosa, also called Bee Balm, Wild Bergamot, Wild Oregano, Sweet Leaf, and Oswego Tea, is a versatile plant from North America. The leaves, flowers, and stems all carry medicinal actions, including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, diaphoretic, and nervine, among many others. In this video, Ashley will share how she uses this herb from her garden with family and clients and the traditional uses she has gathered from studying the work of Matthew Wood and Tis Mal Crow. This is a plant that not only benefits pollinators but would be a great choice for any medicinal garden. Latin Name: Monarda fistulosa Parts Used: Aerial Parts (leaves, stems, and flowers) Preparations Used: Tea, Poultice, Tincture, Tea Compress, and Salve

I did say I'd do Children of the Grave but in my research I found I had a lot more to discuss about Sweet Leaf. Black Sabbath are going from strength to strength and their third album Master of Reality builds on the artistic and commercial success of Paranoid. Delving into more experimental territory, one song Sweet Leaf spawned a genre and its influence was felt for decades. Not just a stoner anthem, but an uplifting song showing how great cannabis is, and why it should be legalised.

These lenders are not afraid to maneuver around historic industry barriers to financing and are opening up to cannabis companies' lending opportunities that have been available to other industries for decades. For starters, cannabis businesses with assets can now use those assets as collateral for a loan. If the business already owns property or a building, for example, or if it has substantial stockpiles of equipment, these assets can be utilized to take out a loan against the value of these assets. These loans are classified as real estate loans or equipment loans.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Welcome to Unstrictly Business, a podcast where we interview business owners about everything that helps them succeed, from business advice to self-care and everything in between. I'm your host, Calli! I'm the Founder of 'Do Well Dept,' an inclusive online community that helps passionate work-from-home entrepreneurs & freelancers achieve overall wellbeing for themselves and their business.    In today's episode, we meet Melanie Masarin, the founder of Ghia, a non-alcoholic apéritif crafted with natural botanicals to both soothe and stimulate. Having spent her childhood summers near the Mediterranean, where aperitivo is a way of life, Melanie shares how her grandmother would make big jugs of limoncello each summer. For Melanie, enjoying a cool drink was more about making connections, enjoying the company of friends and family, and letting loose rather than the alcohol itself.    So, after deciding to reduce her alcohol intake, Melanie realized there weren't a lot of great bitter alcohol alternatives out there that embodied the same feeling as her summer nights in the Mediterranean. With funding help from founders of both Away and Sweet Leaf, design help from Willo Perron & Associates, known for their work for icons like Rihanna and Kanye West, plus a whole lot of hard work, Melanie created Ghia. This week, you'll learn more about her journey to being a business owner and how she plans to grow Ghia in the future.    Plus, you can use the code Melanie15 for 15% off your Ghia purchase!   In this episode, you'll discover...     How Melanie's own entrepreneurial parents have influenced her How health and wellness plays into Melanie's life as an entrepreneur How one email got her a job at Dig Inn What Melanie learned during her career at Glossier Why Melanie founded Ghia and where they're going from here     Thanks for listening to this week's episode of Unstrictly Business! The Sweetleaf Collective began in 1996 in San Francisco, California, the birthplace of medical marijuana and the cannabis compassion movement. When they began, Sweetleaf provided cannabis to 5 AIDS patients. Now they provide free medical cannabis to more than 150 low-income terminally ill patients. Sweetleaf remains committed to providing compassionate access to underserved communities. Sweetleaf delivered cannabis to these patient's homes by bicycle, as many of them have mobility issues and are housebound. Joe Airone is the founder and director of the Sweetleaf Collective. He has been an activist in the Bay Area for more than 20 years, working with groups providing food to the elderly, shelter to the homeless, and cannabis to low-income terminally ill people. He ran a community art center in San Francisco's Mission District for 5 years, creating a forum for artists, musicians, and performers to practice and show their art free of charge. Joe also founded the Humanitarian Circus and has traveled all over the world making free circus shows for refugees and orphans in war zones and developing countries. His last mission was to the island of Lesbos where he performed for Syrian refugee children after they had made the harrowing journey from Turkey to Greece.

If you were an entrepreneur whose company was recently acquired for millions of dollars, what would be your next move? If you said, “Get on a boat and sail the Carribbean,” then you’re in good company. That was David Smith’s plan. After 13 years on the grind, Smith, the co-founder of organic tea brand Sweet Leaf Tea, was ready to relax.  But after a few months at sea, he grew restless and soon found himself drawing up plans for a new business: cold brew maker High Brew Coffee, launched in 2013. Drawing upon the experience and team Smith cultivated at Sweet Leaf, High Brew got off to a fast start and has since become one of the top-selling brands in the competitive cold brew segment.  In an interview included in this episode, Smith reflected upon his 20 year journey as a beverage entrepreneur, cutting his teeth with Sweet Leaf and his lifelong friendship with the brand’s co-founder Clayton Christopher, and why culture was “everything” at the company. He also discussed his next act with High Brew and how his prior experience influenced the launch and development of the brand, as well as the importance of planning for growth and why he believes that, no matter how well you plan, mistakes are unavoidable. This episode is presented by Flavorman, the beverage architects. Show notes:  2:39: Interview: David Smith, Founder/CEO, High Brew Coffee -- In a call with Taste Radio editor Ray Latif, Smith spoke about his foray into entrepreneurship and why his homebase in Austin has long been a hotbed for innovative startups. He also discussed learning on the job as the co-founder of Sweet Leaf, the simple, yet effective, communication and marketing strategies for the brand, the rule of thumb for vetting potential employees and whether he was satisfied with the sale of tea company. Later, he explained why, despite Starbucks’ dominance in RTD coffee, he saw an opportunity to launch High Brew, how past relationships and alliances played into the development of the brand, and why innovation has been key to its growth. Brands in this episode: High Brew Coffee, Sweet Leaf Tea, Nestea, Lipton, AriZona, Starbucks

You know the feeling well. As a wise philosopher once said, "It's a bittersweet symphony this life. Trying to make ends meet, you're a slave to the money then you die." When someone wants to come along and harsh your buzz, it's time to "let the melody shine, let it cleanse [your] mind," and Doomed & Stoned has just the right medicine. When it comes to entrepreneurship, Clayton Christopher believes that “you can’t read the book; you gotta live it.” And live it he has; Christopher is best known as the co-founder of Sweet Leaf Tea, acquired by Nestlé Waters in 2011, and Deep Eddy Vodka, which just five years after its launch was sold to Heaven Hill Distilling for a reported $400 million. Yet even as a highly successful entrepreneur and investor, Christopher, currently the co-founder and managing director of private equity firm CAVU, has always looked beyond simply achieving a desired end result. In an interview included in this episode of Taste Radio, he urged business owners “to appreciate and cherish the journey,” a perspective that will yield a rare and valuable currency few will ever grasp. As part of our conversation, Christopher also delved into why he believes that “the need for human capital is greater than it’s ever been,” how board and management teams can most effectively work together, and why entrepreneurs should spend less time on adding new distribution and instead focus on “creating a success story” inside individual stores. This episode also features an interview with another “kitchen to exit” entrepreneur: John McDonald, the founder of iconic craft beer company Boulevard Brewing. McDonald, who founded Boulevard nearly three decades ago, is something of a godfather in the beer business. In our conversation, he spoke about the origins of the company and its early days as a pioneer of the craft beer category through to its 2013 acquisition by Duvel Moortgat USA. And in this week’s edition of Elevator Talk, we hear from Kabir Gambhir, the founder and CEO of innovative beverage brand Bevea. Show notes: 2:42: Four Letter Brands LIVE -- The hosts chat about recent visits to BevNET HQ by BKON, maker of innovative brewing machines and Waku, a wellness tea brewed with 20 super herbs from the Andes Mountains of Ecuador. The hosts also discuss the speaker lineups at the upcoming BevNET Live Summer 2018 and NOSH Live Summer 2018. 12:09: Interview: Clayton Christopher, Co-Founder, Sweet Leaf Tea/Deep Eddy Vodka/CAVU -- At Natural Products Expo West 2018, Christopher sat down BevNET editor-in-chief Jeff Klineman and discussed his remarkable journey as an entrepreneur and how he advises and invests in fast-growing brands. 36:58: Interview: John McDonald, Founder, Boulevard Brewing Co. -- Boulevard has led the craft scene in the Midwest and is the largest specialty brewer in the region. Brewbound assistant editor Justin Kendall recently visited Boulevard HQ in Kansas City, Missouri and as part of their conversation, McDonald shared war stories from Boulevard’s journey and why he never allowed himself to believe that the company was going to succeed. 1:04:50: Elevator Talk: Kabir Gambhir, Founder/CEO, Bevea -- Gambir is the founder and CEO of Bevea, a recently launched brand that markets innovatic tonics made with organic coffee fruit, ginger and botanicals. Kabir recently visited BevNET’s West Coast branch in San Diego, where he joined us for an interview included in this edition of Elevator Talk. Do you want to lose weight, get healthy, improve your athletic performance, or need help healing from a chronic disease? On this week's Fat Burning Man Show, Dr. Josh Axe will give you three basic tips on how to achieve your goals using relaxation, diet, and exercise. No drugs. No ridiculous workouts. Josh started Exodus Health Care in 2008, has been physician to professional and Olympic athletes, and helps thousands of people achieve fitness through his books and BurstFit program. He also spreads the message of health through his syndicated radio show and regular television program on CBS Nashville. On this week's FBM show, he opens up about his mother's struggle with cancer—from her initial battle with chemo to finally healing through the power of a holistic, natural approach. We talk about how he helped her on her path to healing, and so much more, including: • The three most important things you can do right now to heal your body, lose weight, and improve athletic performance. • How to fuel your body before and after training. • Sugar substitutes: Are Stevia and honey good for you? • Four steps to repairing a leaky gut, and why gut health is important. • The side-effects of chemo: healing cancer naturally. Come on over to the show, meet Josh, and dig into all of these topics and more! See you there. HERE'S THE SHOW IN WRITING! ➢ Dr. Josh Axe is an author, radio host, and a physician for athletes. He lives in Nashville, where he's had a clinic for the last five years. ➢ Josh was recently voted on of Nashville's 25 most beautiful people! ➢ How did you get turned on to natural health? Twenty years ago, Josh's mother had cancer. She was the picture of health- a swim instructor at school and a fit person. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she had a mastectomy and chemo. Her hair fell out and she was sick. She went through a cycle of depression, for which she was prescribed anti-depressants which made her constipated. She had chronic fatigue for ten years and spent half her life in bed—then she was diagnosed with cancer again. ➢ The second time she was diagnosed with cancer, Josh was in college in Florida studying chiropractic and nutrition. He knew he had to do something to help his mother. This lead him to all natural probiotics and juicing. ➢ They tried diet and everything in the natural world to help heal his mother's cancer, and in four months the tumors reduced by half! ➢ In 13 months, the cancer was in complete remission. Now his mother is in the best shape of her life. ➢ Now, Josh uses that knowledge to help people live the very best life every single day. He treats every patient like he did his mother- like family. ➢ What are the biggest things we can do to change our health? 1. Stress: It's a killer, so you have to do whatever you can to try and to reduce stress in your life. How? Write on one side of a sheet of paper all the things that stress you out—then address how to change those. On the other side of the paper, write everything that brings you joy—then schedule time for those things into your week. It's amazing how many people do nothing to bring them joy in their day-to-day lives. 2. Digestive Health: Hypocrates is famous for saying that health begins in the gut. This is one of the most important things to address, and is the topic of Josh's new book, "How to Heal a Leaky Gut." Gluten is one of the biggest culprits. It leaks through the gut and recirculates throughout the body, causing all kinds of havoc. 3. Nutrition: Pack your diet full of nutrient-dense healing foods. You have to think like an Olympic athlete: Instead of asking, "What can I get away with eating?" ask "What do I have to put in my body to be the best I can be?" Even nutritionists that assist pro athletes have the wrong idea about how to properly fuel the body. Here's a tip: CHOCOLATE MILK IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU, EVEN AFTER A WORKOUT. • Pre-workout nutrition should be low in fat, because fat takes longer to digest. Eat a simple sugar and honey with a quickly absorbable protein like grassfed whey or amino acids. • Post-workout meal is higher in protein and should be real food, like a grassfed burger or antioxidant-rich wild salmon with a serving of good carbs from fruit or vegetable sources. • For the rest of the day, get plenty of healthy fats and vegetables. ➢ There are lots of different ways to lose weight, but it's best when weight-loss is a byproduct of good health. Eat simple carbs, simple protein (collagen and wild salmon are the easiest to digest), short and medium chain fats like coconut oil. ➢ As you continue to lose weight and heal your body, include fermented dairy (kefir) and grassfed butter. ➢ Unlike other sweeteners, honey is not a concentrate. What are the benefits of using honey or other natural sweeteners? 1. There's no easy answer to the question, "Can I eat honey?" The answer is sometimes "yes" and sometimes "no." • Honey has antimicrobial properties. • Honey will not ferment or create gut issues like candida. • Honey is the simplest sugar to digest. • Local honey can contain pollen that will help your body adapt to its surroundings, alleviating symptoms of allergies and asthma. 2. Be careful about which honey you're buying. 77% of honey sold in grocery stores has no pollen count at all. It's not real honey. Instead, buy local raw honey. 3. BUT, even if it's local, raw, organic honey, you're not going to lose weight if you eat a gallon of it every week! A couple tablespoons a day max. ➢ What about stevia? Unfortunately, the healthy sweetener has been grabbed up by big food and turned into a confusing- if not unhealthy- sweetener. • Real stevia leaf is healthy if used in moderation. However, the popular Truvia and other commercial brands contain GMO erythritol and are contaminated during the processing of the leaf into the white powder we buy in packets. Truvia goes through 42 steps to make it 400 times sweeter than sugar. • Real stevia leaf can help control blood sugar and diabetes. • The Sweet Leaf brand is better than Truvia, as it only takes 3 – 4 steps of refining and does not contain the additives. • You can buy the ground stevia leaf online, and a huge bag lasts a long time! ➢ HEALING LEAKY GUT: Your intestines are the gatekeepers of the body. They are like a net, and inflammation causes a hole in the net that things start leaking right through. Gluten, casein, and heavy metals then begin to circulate through your body causing: • Thyroid issues • Joint pain • Autoimmune disease • Chronic illness ➢ The first step to healing a leaky gut is removing gluten and processed foods! ➢ There are four healing foods that can help repair a leaky gut: 1. Bone broth—sometimes in severe cases, Josh will put patients on a bone broth fast to jump-start the healing process. 2. Organic meats 3. Fermented vegetables 4. Raw goat's milk kefir ➢ The #1 thing causing leaky gut is prescription antibiotics, which kill both the good and bad bacteria in the gut. This is a big problem, considering that 80% of the immune system is your gut. ➢ You are what you digest! ➢ Good replacements for antibiotics are oil of oregano, clove oil, and tea tree oil. ➢ Load up on (preferably soil-based) probiotics. We used to eat our food from local farms. When you pull a fresh carrot, rinse it, and there's a little bit of soil embedded in the vegetable, that's good! Those minerals are probiotics, which help you break down starches. ➢ The baby carrots you buy in bags at the store are sprayed with a chlorine solution. So instead of buying chemical-laden veggies, EAT SOME DIRT! ➢ You can check out Josh Axe's latest advice on draxe.com. He is working on re-launching his site on a new platform, and publishing his new book about how to heal a leaky gut. If you're looking for information on metabolism, you'll want to read "6 Metabolism Death Foods." You could be surprised about how you're unintentionally hijacking your health.

He is working on re-launching his site on a new platform, and publishing his new book about how to heal a leaky gut. If you're looking for information on metabolism, you'll want to read "6 Metabolism Death Foods." You could be surprised about how you're unintentionally hijacking your health.

Here's a yummy gluten-free banana bread recipe that uses oatmeal flour. It can be sugar-free, by using Xylitol, or you can use Sweet Leaf brand cane sugar plus stevia, which reduces the calorie count by a third. If it calls for a cup of sugar, you use one third of a cup of this and it still tastes wonderful. Coconut palm sugar is another option to use.
