This week Mike, Rich and Steve tackle three new releases - as usual, click the links to see the trailer for each! We kick off with PROJECT SILENCE (Altitude Film Distribution) - A Korean disaster/action movie where commuters become stranded upon a bridge, and surrounded by genetically engineered military attack dogs! Next is IN TENEBRAS: INTO THE DARKNESS (Miracle Media), a film which has some great locations in and around Gibraltar, and generated A LOT of discussion between us! Take a listen to hear what we think! Finally, we take a look at TRANSERS NOIR, a remastered black and white version of the cult classic, starring Tim Thomerson as Jack Deth, sent back to modern day LA to stop a time-travelling criminal mastermind. You can find the whole movie on Youtube by clicking the link! Our short shot is GOING VIRAL, from the Art School Dropouts team. You can see the whole short by clicking the link. Our DTV Throwback is NEW YORK NINJA - a film which was shot back in 1984 but never completed. A long running project has meticulously managed to piece together the footage and brought in the likes of Don "The Dragon" Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock to re-dub the dialogue. This is available on Tubi - click the link to see the whole film!

---------- Kontaktseite: https://www.mdavs.de/kontakt/ Twitter: @MdaVs_Podcast Facebook: www.facebook.com/TrashOMeter Mail: MdaVs-Podcast@hotmail.com Gastbeiträge einreichen: https://www.speakpipe.com/MdaVs Podcast unterstützen: https://ko-fi.com/mdavs https://steadyhq.com/de/mdavs/about ---------- JETZT AUCH BEI DISCORD! The martial artist, instructor, writer, actor, painter, fight choreographer, singer and all-round entertainer Eric Lee got his nickname - the 'King of Kata' - after winning a string of trophies throughout the 1960s, 70s and 80s. He has over 100 world titles, and was the undefeated forms and weapons champion from 1970 to 1974. Over the years, his kung fu demonstrations escalated to include music, lighting, comedy, acting and sound effects, and his entertaining mix of martial arts and performance wowed audiences around the world. He would quickly become a regular fixture in the fight press, and a career in action movies followed. One of his earliest roles was with the director, Sam Peckinpah, on 'The Killer Elite' in 1975, but perhaps Lee's most famous role was in John Carpenter's cult classic, 'Big Trouble in Little China' (1986), playing a villain in Lo Pan's gang. As an actor and fight choreographer, he has appeared in over 80 movies and TV productions, and worked with many of the best martial artists in the action genre - including Jackie Chan, Cynthia Rothrock, Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, Bolo Yeung, Billy Blanks, and many more. Now in his mid-70s, Eric may have retired from competition, but he continues to pick up new interests and hobbies. In this wide-ranging conversation, we discuss his early years in China and his training in Hong Kong; the feedback he received when introducing kung fu to American audiences; his move from stunt performer to actor to working behind-the-scenes; and his love of all things music. Eric is also a published author; his instructional books include '3 Sectional Staff', 'The Broadsword', and 'Fight Back: Your Guide to Self-Defence'. His latest book, an autobiography called 'The Journey of an Artist', is out now.LINKSEric Lee's website: https://ericlee.com/Eric Lee on IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0497224/Eric Lee on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@grandmasterericlee4240Eric Lee profile on Kung Fu Movie Guide: https://bit.ly/EricLeeProfileBuy 'The Journey of an Artist' by Grandmaster Eric Lee on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Journey-Artist-Grandmaster-Eric-Lee-ebook/dp/B08L8T7WXY'Big Trouble in Little China' (1986) review on Kung Fu Movie Guide: http://bit.ly/BigTroubleInLittleChina Hosted on Acast. Pronounced “Voyager 3,” Detroit's Voyag3r feature keyboardist Steve Greene, guitarist Aaron Greene, and drummer Greg Mastin. Inspired by the soundtracks to vintage horror, action, and sci-fi films, the trio creates experimental rock that owes a debt to pioneers like John Carpenter and shares a kinship with bands such as Trans Am, Teeth of the Sea, and Zombi. Originally directed by and starring martial arts actor John Liu (The Secret Rivals, Invincible Armor) in his only American production, New York Ninja was filmed entirely on 35mm in 1984, but the project was abandoned during production resulting in all original sound materials being lost over time. 35 years later, Vinegar Syndrome acquired the original unedited camera negative and painstakingly constructed and completed the film, with the voice talents of genre favorites: Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Linnea Quigley, Michael Berryman, Ginger Lynn Allen, and Cynthia Rothrock, and a score by Voyag3r. On this edition of Parallax Views, July 4th is just around the corner. What better way to celebrate than hitting the beach! Of course, if you're not careful in that water you could get munched up by a shark like in JAWS. Or worse... PIRANHA WOMEN! Piranha Women is the latest effort of Charles Band's long-running horror/fantasy/sci-fi factory Full Moon Features. It's also a return to said genre for it's director, the legendary independent filmmaker Fred Olen Ray. For a number of years now Fred has been working on TV, including making Hallmark Christmas movies with Chevy Chase and Lifetime thrillers. For him filmmaking is not merely some hobby, but a profession. Simply put, he's a working class filmmaker. Prior too much of his television work, Fred directed a great number of horror, sci-fi, action, and fantasy pictures during the VHS boom in the 1980s and a number of erotic thrillers during that genre's popularity in the 1990s. Among some of the cult classics Fred has directed are Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, The Tomb, Biohazard, Cyclone, Evil Toons, Inner Sanctum (one of the most successful video rentals of the 99s), Beverly Hills Vamp, Witch Academy, Alienator, Deep Space, Star Slammer, Bad Girls from Mars, Mind Twister, Attack of the 60 Foot Centerfolds, Inferno, Possessed by the Night, and countless others. Through it all he's worked with such well-known actors as Ice-T, Don "The Dragon" Wilson, David Carradine, Sybil Danning, Martin Landau, Nightmare on Elm Street's Heather Langenkamp, Eric Roberts, Gunna Hansen (Leatherface in the original 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Morgan Fairchild, comedy movie legend Eddie Deezen, Bond girl Britt Ekland, Twin Peaks' Russ Tamblyn, Sid Haig, and many, many others. A monster kid that grew up on drive-in horror movies, Piranha Women marks Fred Olen Ray's returns to the type of fun genre fare that's made him a cult figure amongst cinema buffs. And it stars such beauties as Carrie Overgaard and Keep Chambers as the deadly titular fish women. In this conversation Fred and I discuss a number of topics including: - The secrets of indie filmmaking from matching shots to filming big name actors on a schedule - Working with classic actors like John Carradine, Aldo Ray, and Cameron Mitchell - The tricks he used to film the animated monster in the ambitious low-budget live-action horror Evil Toons - Working with Full Moon and thoughts on the promotional wizardy of Charles Band - Filming nude scenes with actresses - How to make films on low-budgets and tight-schedules - The craft of filmmaking - Orson Welles' cinematographer Gary Graves and his sabotaged film Moon in Scorpio - How he began working on Hallmark and Lifetime movies; what TV networks expect out of him as a director and why he gets the job - Filmmaking as a job rather than a hobby - The killer ta-tas gag in Piranha Women - The rise and fall of the "Scream Queen" cycle of films in the 1980s directed by Fred, Jim Wyrnoski, and David DeCoteau starring actresses like Linne Quigley, Michelle Bauer, Brinke Stevens, and Kelli Maroney - Advice to young filmmakers and what Fred looks for in young filmmakers (including discussion of Fred's producer credits for Steve Latshaw's Jack-O, which was recently re-released on Blu-Ray by Fred's Retromedia company, and Henrique Couto's Bigfoot web-series Boggy Creek) - And much, much more!

This week we’re discussing a seminal work when it comes to buying Don “The Dragon” Wilson houses, the original BLOODFIST (1989). Two time World Kickboxing Champion under the Professional Karate Association (PKA), 8th Dan black belt in USA Goju Karate, Professional Wrestling trainer and former bounty hunter, Dan Magnus is not fighting for another championship, he is fighting for his life. The 64-year-old Magnus, a native of New York and California resident, is waiting on a heart transplant. However, his situation is extremely rare in comparison to others in his hospital ward. Magnus, who previously had three surgeries is quite possibly the healthiest person in the hospital as he has a stationary bike and dumbbells in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). "It's pretty funny because I have no symptoms. I'm not breathing hard or anything, it's just the tests show my heart's weak. They save we have to wait and get you a good heart. There were two offers already but they weren't strong enough. It's really weird. Usually when you're having a heart transplant you take what ever you can get but they have to find me a heart that strong enough to do what I do," said Magnus from his hospital room. Magnus spends a minimum of 30 minutes on his stationary bike in the ICU ward and uses 3 lb. weights during his shadow boxing sessions. Mangus would lift heavier weights, but the doctors will not allow it. When going for walks around the hospital floor, he practically laps his nursing staff and quips that the wheelchair they follow him around with, he will eventually have to push them once he's tired them out. Magnus has a Swan-Ganz catheter attached through his neck leading to his heart that feeds the medication directly into his valves. Once they took it out of his neck, Magnus went about 20 laps around the ward, walking for an hour just to keep himself active. "My biggest fear when I get out of the hospital is not that I am going to do too much, it is that Tracee is going to yell at me a lot. I'm actually scared! She's prepared. She's by my side. It's going to be a little different for me because with my other two heart surgeries I had nobody," said Magnus about his girlfriend Tracee Meltzer, professionally known as Roxy Astor in the original incarnation of the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling (GLOW). Magnus received an outcry of support from legends within the Karate World including Jeff Smith, Don "The Dragon Wilson and Billy Blanks. Magnus continued to work, train, find love and now fights for his life and when listening to the interview, wants to fight one more 12-round fight for his old title, only this time with a healthy heart. "Let me tell you, I'm a human being, I'm scared. I just don't let it effect me. I make it like a fight; you get nerves. Anybody that says go into a professional fight and they're not scared or they're not nervous; they're liars! That's what keeps you going, but you have to over come it. You have to accept it...this is going to be a long road, but I've been down this road a couple of time," said Magnus about his pending transplant. #DanMagnus #Kickboxing #HeartTransplant #Survival #Fighting

Listen, I’m going to be totally honest with you. This movie is a stinker. Jeff Wincott is not the next star, no matter what martial arts magazine says it. BUT… We have a TON of fun with this movie! Its so bad its good. And, to continue the honesty, this podcast episode is the best way to consume Deadly Bet. This is the best version. Also, its basically out of print so this might be the ONLY way to find it.Except on YouTube you amazing bastards! We love to hate this movie and it has all the hallmarks of a true “trash movie”. You’ll laugh, you’ll cheer, you’ll never watch another Wincott movie. But, definitely listen to this podcast. Movie info Premiered: Oct. 31, 1992 Directed by: Richard Munchkin This dude is all about gambling. He is a professional Blackjack player, appeared on a blackjack game show, wrote a book about gambling, hosts a radio show about gambling, worked in a casino. Oh, also wrote or directed over 20 movies including Ring of Fire one and two starring Don The Dragon Wilson. Written by: Joseph Mehri, Robert Tiffe Joseph founded PM Entertainment, produced a ton of movies then left the business in 2003. His wiki suggests he also owned pizzerias in Vegas. Robert made a bunch of direct-to-video stuff. Hey folks, it's yet another stay at home week, and a new episode of the "What's Real?" podcast with Ed, Jared, and Cam. Episode 18! This week the show starts off with some talk about Jared's independent film special from over the past weekend. The show rolls along as the guys discuss the results of the first-ever virtual NFL draft (the 2020 NFL Draft). Then the guys talk about some random "quarantine watching" as they both have been catching some of "The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs" from Shudder. The next segment covers video games as the guys go through some of their recent quarantine gaming habits. Next up is the review of the latest Vice, "Darkside of the Ring: The Assassination of Dino Bravo". The review of the latest 2 episodes, 3 & 4, of "The Last Dance" keeps the show rolling along. The newest weekly segment "Thursday Night Prime" is next, reviewing the Don "The Dragon" Wilson led, "Night Hunter". As always, the show concludes with "Goofs Are Goofs" with a goof we think everyone will agree with. Stay healthy and enjoy the show! www.churchillpictures.com

This movie came out of left field. None of us had ever seen it  before, but we are WELL ACQUAINTED with Don “The Dragon” Wilson. So,  somehow all EIGHT of these movies fell just outside our radar. You know  what? We were missing an amazing movie! First things first, this movie has the **most controversial** mango  in the history of mangoes. What kind of magician can peel a mango like  that? And do it while running? Plus its poisoned! Between mangoes and  the least flexible woman to dance on a rooftop, no matter what Jake  says, we at least get a lot of montages of running up a volcano. We have a lot of fun with this movie and it has us intrigued to watch the second. Three through 8? Maybe not. Movie Info Premiered: Sept. 22, 1989 Directed by: Terence H. Unquestionably, the greatest kickboxing champion of all time, Don “The Dragon” Wilson is the only kick-boxer to win 11 world titles in 3 weight divisions (light-heavyweight, super-light-heavyweight, and cruiserweight) and for 6 sanctioning organizations (WKA, STAR, KCIK ,ISKA, PKD, AND IKF). Along the way, he defeated 11 other world champions, 12 number-one contenders and 15 champions on 4 continents. Don’s impressive career record consists of 71 wins, 47 by knockout, and 6 by kick-knockout, and he was also the first kung-fu practitioner to become a World Kickboxing champion. In 1996, Don was named the Greatest Competitor of All Time by Kickside magazine-Europe. As Don’s phenomenal kickboxing career was winding down, he came to Hollywood at the suggestion of his friend and fellow martial artist, Chuck Norris. After hooking up with agent Ray Cavaleri (who is still his agent), Don got a national commercial, and a stint on the soap opera “General Hospital”. Shortly thereafter came a fateful audition with the legendary filmmaker Roger Corman, who had discovered such talents as William Shatner, Jack Nicholson, and Robert DeNiro. Corman was so impressed with Don’s kickboxing career and his natural charm, that he immediately signed him to a non-exclusive seven movie contract, and Don starred in the huge hit, “Bloodfist”. Since Don was still fighting, Corman actually once insured Don’s face for $10 million with Lloyd’s of London. Don has established himself as a hard working Hollywood action star, having starred in 29 films since his film career began in 1989. He has had as many as five films released within a fourteen month period. His most recent project is a movie entitled “Paying Mr. McGetty.”
