As entrepreneurs, service providers, and coaches, you need online visibility. One way to increase your visibility is to improve your LinkedIn profile. Follow the advice below to enhance your profile and elevate your online visibility as the go-to in your area of expertise. How should you approach writing your LinkedIn profile? First, pause. Ask yourself why you are on LinkedIn. What are you hoping to accomplish on LinkedIn? Do you want to attract clients? Is your goal to increase your visibility? Or, maybe you are looking for a new position or job. Then, think about who do you want to find you on LinkedIn. What is important to them? What are their pain points? In addition, what does success mean to them, and can you help them achieve it? The next step is identifying the keywords your soulmate clients are typing into LinkedIn. Then, you can begin using the keywords in your narrative. Now, you better understand what to write and what your narrative should say. To Improve your LinkedIn Profile, include a professional profile photo. People will scroll by your profile if you do not have a good profile photo. A poor-quality photo will diminish trust because it doesn't show professionalism. It is about exuding confidence. It matters that you look professional, and your eyes need to be showing because that is how people will connect with you. LinkedIn profiles often appear in Google searches. They are less of a social media platform and more of an opportunity to be found. LinkedIn profile assets The top feeds into the search results. Your bio should include key phrases and credibility markers, not only your title. Don't come across as though you don't care. Your background image should reflect your brand. Donna shared the example of the executive who used a cycling photo to show his personal side, which helped people connect with him. With the advent of AI, we must emphasize our personality and interests to build emotional connections. Read the full show notes and access all links. Donna's website, , is where she and her team of over 20 writers and coaches help people collide with opportunities and transform their lives via future-forward career branding. You'd never know it now, but Donna was a shy little kid. During college, she was interested in pursuing work in development and production in the film industry. While she did work as an intern in the film industry, getting established after graduation proved challenging, so she accepted an invitation from her father to join him in his business. They sold estimating software to autobody shops. She realized she loved to help people discover technology, and this led her to move into other arenas, including designing websites and helping people with their LinkedIn profiles. Over the course of the next several years, Donna worked as a reseller in software sales, and she noticed a couple of patterns. While she sold the same software as her competitors, people wanted to do business with her because they could see she understood their industry, had their backs, and was willing to engage with them in ways that were not purely transactional. How did she do this? She used LinkedIn as a part of her networking strategy to make connections and develop relationships. What does your Linkedin profile say about you and your organization? Using Linkedin to project your personal brand Episode 193 (Donna is based in Pennsylvania) In this conversation with Donna Serdula we explore: What can executive leader gain from enhancing their Linkedin Profile Why Linkedin is more than a job board Why leaders should help their employees enhance their profiles How to clarify the purpose of your Linkedin presence Is your profile current or ancient history? Who are you and what do you stand for? Why your profile must not look like a resume even if you are searching Why the company might help their staff look better on Linkedin About our guest Donna Serdula: Donna wrote a "For Dummies" book on the topic of Linkedin profiles. She started her business in 2009 and has since branded over 8,000 executives, entrepreneurs and professionals on Linkedin and beyond. Review and upgrade your Linkedin profile by visiting https://www.linkedin-makeover.com/order-today/ ----- Excerpts from this conversation with Donna Serdula: The LinkedIn profile, it's not the resume. It's a digital introduction. It's a first impression, it is your manifesto. ----- If you want to be a thought leader, if you really want to dominate the platform, you want to post more than less, but at the same time, you can truly engage with your network and get seen by posting once a week. It's not so much the quantity as much as it's the quality. ----- LinkedIn wants fresh profiles showing up active people, people who have something to say. So by making sure that your profile is up to date, it would be more apt to show up in the search results, versus one that hasn't been touched in six months, right. When you think of it like that, it makes sense. Keep your profile fresh, you're going to do better in search results. ----- How do you decide when you connect versus simply let them follow? Oh, that's a great question because there is a difference right? connection versus a Follow Follow is one one way street. It's you saying, hey, I want to subscribe to that person's updates. Whereas when you connect, it's saying, Hey, I know this person, I like I trust this person. And not only am I subscribing to them, but they're going to subscribe to me, and they're going to be in my network, they're grew to become first degree connections, and all of their connections are going to become second degree connections, and all of those connections, connections are going to become third degree connections. So it really does extend your reach when you connect, when that's a good thing. ----- ----more---- Your Intended Message is the podcast about how you can boost your career and business success by honing your communication skills. LinkedIn is one of the top social platforms for entrepreneurs and professionals. We know we need to get into it, but it can be intimidating because it also reflects on our professional profile. But what if getting started on LinkedIn doesn't have to be so intimidating? In this episode, we'll learn how to get started, transitioned, and consistent on LinkedIn. “LinkedIn is a hard platform… It's also one of the kindest networks.” - Donna Serdula To help us navigate the world of LinkedIn, we have Donna Serdula joining us today. In 2009, Donna walked away from her successful sales career and founded Vision Board Media and LinkedIn-Makeover.com. Her mission is to help people realize their internet identity and shape one that makes an impact and leads to opportunity. Her book, LinkedIn Profile Optimization for Dummies helps professionals get started on the platform. Donna has built the SOAR Framework. This gets you straight to connecting and engaging on LinkedIn. Start by building a STRATEGY—decide why you're using LinkedIn, identify your target audience, and develop your brand. Then OPTIMIZE your profile and posts so that the right people will find you. AMPLIFY your brand and message through a strong network. Then it's time to RELATE and build your network on LinkedIn so that what you post will actually be heard. Other topics discussed in this episode include: Practical strategies to build up your network Getting started on LinkedIn Engagement strategies to curate the feed you want “LinkedIn wants the feed to be the people you know talking about the things you care about.” - Donna Serdula One common perception about LinkedIn is that it's a platform where you need to be buttoned up and with a stiff upper lip, and that was true—until five years ago. You can speak in your voice and let your personality show in a way that's true to your brand. LinkedIn, like other platforms, has an algorithm that's continuously changing. Sometimes, it's short posts with photos that do well. Other times, it's the long-form document posts. The key to maximizing your reach on this platform isn't to catch the algorithm, it's to build a large network and post quality, engaging and consistent posts. Description: In this episode, I am speaking with Donna Serdula who is famous for LinkedIn profile optimization and makeover. We are speaking today about how to Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile and Boost Your Later Life Career Prospects. This is not something that most discussions around LinkedIn focus on. Read a bit from Donna's about page on her website: My name is Donna Serdula & in 2009, I pioneered my LinkedIn profile optimization methodology. Since then, my team & I have helped OVER SIX THOUSAND professionals from all over the world tell their stories & build a powerful professional brand. Look, it doesn't matter who you are or what you do, it's not easy to write about yourself. I hear it all the time, “I can… sell snow to an Eskimo / manage complex projects / lead exceptional teams… but write about myself? NO WAY!” Besides, who has time to sit down and complete their LinkedIn profile on their own? Maybe that's the reason why so many LinkedIn profiles suck. Yes, suck. You read that right. You know this… People are Googling you. Your LinkedIn profile is more often than not your digital introduction and first impression with the world. If your LinkedIn profile doesn't showcase your skills and portray you as a polished professional you are letting the ultimate opportunity just slip away… This episode is sponsored by Career Pivot. Connie's motivational quote for today is by – Jill Rowley, “Before LinkedIn and other social networks, in the sales world, ABC stood for Always Be Closing. Now, ABC means Always Be Connecting because your connections lead to your next hire, your next job, your next lead, and your next close.” YouTube: https://youtu.be/G4HxHfJK5cQ Check Out These Highlights: When I was trained in financial sales 40 years ago, that motto of always be closing was said repeatedly. Glengarry Glen Ross, a movie from 1992, made this phrase mainstream and appeared that this was the correct way to approach sales conversations.
