https://youtu.be/VsYNJyvLhJQ Devin Sizemore, Connector, Consultant, Speaker, and author of Connection Expansion, is driven by a mission to help entrepreneurs unlock opportunity by building meaningful, leveraged relationships that drive growth. We explore Devin's journey into connection strategy and his creation of the Connection Expansion Framework, a system designed to help business owners stop chasing prospects and instead build a thriving network that brings opportunity to them. The framework includes five key steps: identifying connectors to your target market, asking to be introduced, building strategic partnerships, saturating your niche, and staying top of mind through long-term follow-up. Devin explains why most entrepreneurs overemphasize referrals and underestimate the value of partnerships, events, and collaborations. He shares how to reduce friction in introductions, build authority in niche communities, and turn warm relationships into a consistent flywheel of growth. He also discusses his book Connection Expansion, a tactical guide to putting this system into action. --- Expand Your Network with Devin Sizemore Good day, dear listeners, Steve Preda here with the Management Blueprint Podcast. And today my guest is Devin Sizemore, who is a connector, consultant, speaker, and author of Connection Expansion. Devin, welcome to the show. Steve, thanks so much for having me. Been looking forward to this conversation. Yeah, I've been looking forward to it too, especially since I read, I'm through about halfway through your book, Connection Expansion, and I found it fascinating, so let's talk about it. But first, let's start with your personal “Why” and how you are manifesting it in your business and businesses. Definitely. I love that question. I think a lot of people aren't aligned with their “Why,” and so I love that you start there. My personal “Why” is my first core principle that I share in the book, which is always add value. So everything I do, I focus on how do I add value to others, whether that's just people I'm meeting, whether that's clients, whether that's your listeners, I'm always focused on adding value. And so everything I do, every decision I make has to align with adding value.Share on X And if it does, great. If it doesn't, I'm probably not interested in doing it. That's a good principle to live by, to always add value. I had a client who had one of their core values was always add value. It was a consulting company and I thought it was very appropriate. So let's talk about your book, Connection Expansion, which describes your unique networking system. So my question is what prompted you to write a book about networking and about the system? Yeah, again, another great question. I've been doing consulting for 15 years. I've owned a bunch of companies and the core of it has always been connections. But where I think we're a little bit different and where I'm different is I have the ability to be a visionary. So what do I think I wanna create, but also being tactical. So grounding that into an actual system. Seven years ago, I really focused on connections. A couple of hundred clients later, and we've proven the system works. And so writing the book was kind of the last step of that process with me going through and really documenting the questions, the follow-up, the cadence, the templates, the whole system in a way that I could share it easily with the world. And then I work with a lot of book clients with one of my biggest clients. And so the combination of, I want to do it, and I'm watching all these people have success with books kind of led to me going, hey, it's my turn to do this and I need to share it with the world. Okay. And why is it important to build a network, to have lots of connections? Maybe it's a stupid question, but I'm still curious. No, it's a great question because depending on what your goals are currently, the answer is different.

Networking Groups and Events … you either love 'em or hate ‘em… but the fact remains they can help your practice or business grow. They can be a great source of new opportunities and new business. Networking is typically something people know they should do but don't commit to as a regular marketing activity - especially when the networking groups in your area may not always fill your cup. This is why one of the groups I attend is one that many folks do not always see as a networking group because its main purpose is not networking! This week on the podcast, I spoke with Cheryl Cook, one of the co-chairs of the 100 Women Who Care Halifax Group, about what makes this group different than a typical networking group - especially since it is not even called that! Hit the play button to listen in and learn more about the 100 Women Who Care groups - which are all over Canada and the US - and find out how they work, and the hidden benefits women in business can get from joining their 4 meetings each year - yes only 4 events a year! Be sure to listen in - it will inspire you to rethink what opportunities for networking are out there - some of them may fill your cup - and your client roster - more than you realize. Send us a Text Message. How to Expand Your NetworkIt's not what you know, it's who you know!I've had many opportunities to sit chair-to-chair with hiring managers and review resumes. For a recent job posting, I co-reviewed over 3 dozen resumes. Some submissions included various versions of introductions or cover letters. Most resumes did not pass the 3-second scan rule. When asked for the top choices I struggled to find any resume candidates that strongly stood out. While trying to rank resumes into the top category there were a few that were better but weren't home runs.Ultimately, the hiring company interviewed several candidates based on referrals or recommendations.None of these resumes would have earned any applicant an interview.Let's skip the resume talk and focus on what got these few folks an interview.Their networks thought highly of them and referred them or made interviewing recommendations to the hiring manager.Support the Show.

So, here's a little secret to save your relationships: Always ask for permission before connecting people in your network. We've all heard 'your network is your net worth,'...but it's crucial to be intentional. Blindly making connections can waste time and damage friendships. Here is SHOW #73: MENTAL HEALTH and COLLEGE STUDENTS. In this show, I discuss the serious issues of Mental Health and Mental Illness among college students today. As I have observed over my 35 years of teaching college classes, more and more of my college students are experiencing varying degrees of mental health issues. Whether it is increased anxiety, nervousness, isolationism, or depression, a much larger percentage of my Gen Z college students are experiencing more mental health conditions which may lead to a serious mental illness. In fact, I even share my own mental health issues when I was a college student in the 1970s and 1980s and struggled through some tough issues individually. The major TakeAway from this Podcast show is to: (1) Stay connected with your college student, (2) Listen more intensely to your college student, (3) Encourage more dialogue with your college student, (4) Provide more positive interactions and engagement with your college student, and (5) Reassure your college student that it is okay to seek professional help for your individual mental health situation. What does “America's Rabbi” know about business? Plenty, as it turns out. Listen in when Meny talks with Rabbi Daniel Lapin, host of the weekly television show Ancient Jewish Wisdom and author of books like Thou Shall Prosper, about the ways that ancient Jewish wisdom contains the keys to prosperity and financial success. Rabbi Lapin explains why a giving mindset is crucial, how to avoid the incorrect idea that prosperity means taking something away from people, whether the trope that Jews are good with money actually contains an important truth, why you need to increase your circle of friends (and how to do it) when high intelligence can work against you, and more. Rabbi Daniel Lapin, known widely as America's Rabbi, is a noted rabbinic scholar, best-selling author, and TV host. He is president of the American Alliance of Jews and Christians, author of America's Real War; Thou Shall Prosper, and other best-sellers. That's what high performance is to me, the ability to adapt rapidly so you can achieve your potential. There are five key pillars to creating the conditions for adaptability: sleep, exercise, mental resilience, nutrition, and community/relationships.” - Dr. Erik Korem “I maybe have a different concept on leadership. To me, leading is a verb. If you're leading, you're a leader. If you're swimming you're a swimmer, if you're driving you're a driver. If you're leading you're by definition a leader. I define leading as being looked to in a particular moment to make a decision or perform an action based on your unique gifts and abilities. So by that definition, everybody is a leader. All rank and role really describe is how many people are hoping you get it right when it's your turn to wear the weight.” - Clint Bruce "Attention is the currency of performance." - Dr. Peter Haberl “That's what I've discovered in the lives of brilliant, prolific, healthy creatives, is that they have networks of people they leverage in the course of their work. That they learn from, that they were challenged by, that they gave great insight and purview into their own life and work, in such a way that they were able to receive feedback that helped them get better at what they do.” - Todd Henry "Restful and fulfilling sleep enables you to grow, adapt, and thrive. It creates the conditions for adaptation, so you can pursue audacious goals and thrive in uncertainty." - Dr. Erik Korem "Most exercise programs fail, not because the reps and sets are poorly designed, but because the program doesn't adjust for how much stress your body can adapt to that day!. That's why Dr. Chris Morris' research and practical application of fluid periodization is the key for unlocking your performance potential." - Dr. Erik KoremSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We've talked about several steps in the Writer's Path, and today we'll focus on Milestone #5: Expanding your networking of friends, fans, and connections. Why it's important: One of the biggest things that holds back great writers is not knowing how to network and build relationships. I have learned a lot from Vincent Pugliese in this regard. He leads the Total Life Freedom community and mastermind, and he's recently released a fantastic book called The Wealth of Connection, which I highly recommend. It will help you develop a mindset of networking and building relationships. On this episode, you'll discover that one of the most valuable things you can do for your writing business—and your well-being—is connecting with others and expanding your network. *** Check out my NEW book: 18 Words to Live By: A Father's Wisdom on What Matters Most. Dine and Design Series Part VIII “This isn't just me on the menu…There's a bunch of beautiful minds that go into it.” -Sieger Bayer Episode Description: Most people want to eat the healthiest foods available, but it can be difficult to do when we don't know where our food comes from. Buying directly from local farmers gives us the ability to shop at places that care about our health as much as we do. In addition, when we buy locally sourced food, we know that we're getting quality foods year-round rather than eating something grown elsewhere, which might have been sitting in storage for weeks, in conditions that aren't ideal for taste or nutrition. Buying local produce allows us to savor crisp, fresh flavor and foods' nutrients at their peak. However, freshness isn't everything when it comes to food. A lot of products have been sprayed with chemicals that can be harmful to our health, so it makes sense to buy locally wherever possible. This gives us the opportunity to advocate for our well-being and support farmers who practice sustainable farming. Not only that, buying directly from local farmers means getting access to more varieties of produce than what might be available in stores. We can also find vendors who are happy to explain how they grow their food and answer any questions we might have about their products. It's also a great place to get inspiration for cooking as many vendors are thrilled to share recipes and cooking tips. Etta Culver City is a celebrated neighborhood restaurant that serves delicious, wood-fired food in a fun, relaxed dining environment. Led by two-time Michelin Chef/Partner Danny Grant and the What If Syndicate restaurant group, Etta and its sister companies Monarch, Maple&Ash, Celestina, and Kessaku aim to serve nutritious, savory, and high-quality food. To do this, they make sure they only buy fresh ingredients directly from local farmers. In this episode of EI's Dine & Design, Justine and Bridget interview Etta's Executive Chef, Sieger Bayer. Listen to their fun exchange as Chef Sieger talks about the beginning of his journey with food, building relationships with local farmers, capturing the eyes and palates of diners through the art of plating, and how he helps chefs in-training to be better at their craft. Chef Sieger also reveals his passion project for the first time and tells the audience how they can get involved! Meet Sieger: Sieger Bayer is the Executive Chef of Etta Culver City, a neighborhood restaurant that serves delicious, wood-fired food in a fun, relaxed dining environment. True to its namesake, “Keeper of the Hearth”, Etta is known for its perfectly baked wood-fired pizza and other familiar dishes that are perfect for the whole family. Sieger understands the impact of buying directly from local farmers on the quality of food served, the well-being of their customers, and its benefit to the farmers themselves and the environment. Sieger has also partnered up with Erika Chan and other artists on an art-driven cookbook, re.c.o.o.k.e.d You can connect with Sieger and the fellow cookbook authors and artists via instagram using the links below.
